I’m the Punk Rock Zoologist and I’ve just signed up to Nationstates about a week ago. I live in Australia, and I’m currently a student of Agricultural Science doing an honours project in Integrated Pest Management (Using bugs to kill other bugs instead of pesticides).
My nation is called Attenborough’s Ark, after the famous naturalist’s idea of his own Ark to contain all the most endangered species in the world to save from extinction.
For me, it is a nation founded on the principals of science, nature and community. Here is the official description from NS:
"The Community of Attenboroughs Ark is a tiny, genial nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 18 million are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Social Welfare, although Education and Social Equality are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 44%, but much higher for the wealthy. A tiny private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.
Military funding has been stripped back, soylent products are an expensive commodity due to a lack of volunteers, anti-government political posters adorn every building like wallpaper, and the government has legalised small-scale capitalism. Crime is totally unknown. Attenboroughs Ark’s national animal is the Three Toed Sloth, which frolics freely in the nation’s many lush forests, and its currency is the Research Grant."
