Surprisingly, I love this film.
Best movie ever.

I saw the trailer for this film and wanted to see it. Have not heard much about it until now and my movie going took a huge hit this past Fall. Now I’ll wait for it and Golden Compass on HBO I suppose.
Both movies are great.
I don’t know if “Stardust” was based on a book but “The Golden Compass” was based on the first of three books of the “His Dark Materials” series by Philip Pullman. I loved all three books which oddly were found in the Juvenile fiction section of the Library. Wouldn’t recommend the trilogy for anyone beholden to traditional religious dogma as it is rather “blasphemous” at times but I understand this was toned down for the movie.
The idea of alternate universes really appeals to the Steampunk side of me and I’d be elated to frequent an RP forum based on the trilogy.
The movie didn’t just take most of it out. it replaced it with the general lesson that it’s best to think for yourself, no matter how much an authority seems to be doing what’s best for you. It’s still a marvelous movie. I can’t remember where the idea of the alternate universes comes in to play in the books. The idea is there in the movie, but as with most movies, the subtleties of plot aren’t as apparent in the movie.
If stardust is based on a book, I haven’t read it.
