It has been a relatively quiet week on the battlefield for The United Defenders League, so a lot of our work this week has been administrative activities (sekrits), which I cannot fully disclose honestly its been pretty busy, I have already enjoyed a nice 1 6 PM power-nap (R2D2 Funny Clips - YouTube). Although we did liberate CrazyKids and additionally, United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland against the Brotherhood of Malice. The Sherwood What?? Yes, thats right, we have replaced the old Office of the Press Secretary with The Sherwood Post so that no one person will ever again have to face the collective fury of the angry editorials. Another good article while were on the subject was a speech released recently by Lieutenants, Earth and Sovreignry entitled http://s4.zetaboards.com/UDL/topic/9805055/1/#new which, I know, got us all motivated for the coming month.
Also noteworthy from those articles is the intercepted refound of Ether which ended a fifty-two day occupation for The Black Riders in failure; cue the partisan raider response regarding how the actual end goal was to lose the refound. MIND BLOWN. Lieutenant Earth caught the refound (and cheered quite loudly). Were still in the process of handing off the region to the existing natives, all in good time.

Out of that list, The Inevitable Syndicate snagged a Monthly Award, but Arcomo got the coveted Newcomer Award. Also Hileville received the Best Liberator of the Month Award, which is his first award with us I believe, so congratulations to him as well! Apparently they did know each other, actually. Ah diplomacy what strange people and foreign tongues you bring to our humble IRC channel. Our diplomatic core has been hard at work, pursuing our foreign affairs agenda. If you havent heard yet, Drakkengard, a respected and just absolutely lovely member of The East Pacific, has taken on the position of Vice Chief of Feeder and Sinker Affairs and has been full of bright ideas Chief Hilleville and I welcome him to the team. I couldnt ask for a more experienced and respected diplomatic presence in the feeder communities. Meanwhile, Chief Bazlantis organized the first cabinet meeting between his foreign affairs attachés last week before sending them on their merry way to scour NationStates.
On a few final notes, Movie Night is going to occur Saturday, February 9 at 7:30 PM EST, next week on our military IRC channel (#udl). I have absolutely no idea what the movie will be, but I dont think we ever got to watch Hook, so maybe well watch that. Moreover, Lieutenant Ravania has been sick with the flu and we wish our Busy little Beaver well.

As Lieutenant Tim joked, theres no need to just pick on Wednesday all around it has been a rather quiet week in NationStates. The United Defenders League has seen some military action however, liberating Rome and Pirates, as well as Allied Military States, Libertarian Socialist Federation, ROBLOX, The Marxist Leninist Region and Free Palestine. A few defences here and there, but the professional invader scene has been fairly inactive because most of their resources are being centralized to hold The Middle East while that region is unfortunately on the brink of total destruction. A big shout out goes to British Isles, who has been working patiently with us a lot through the past few weeks, especially to identify invasions being conducted by unprofessional invaders (i.e., newbies). I think these quiet periods are some of the most dangerous periods of time for interregional defender organization relations, so wed like to just put out a general blanket thank you to our fellow defenders for sticking through this stint of inactivity of the field calmly and maturely it can all go very bad when we get restless and competitive over the share of military operations and activity.
The Pirates Liberation was pretty interesting though. We conducted it against The Brotherhood of Malice while we had several insider puppets to endorse one another inside the region and then topped it off with a team of defenders moving in later in the day. Congratulations to New Andureo who took the delegacy as our lead. The military ribbons for Rome and Pirates are depicted below:

Ultimately, we do this for the natives and I think Lieutenant Ravania put it best when he said recently that NationStates has never been so safe. Indeed, safe as ever. Job well done, Id say. Erm, thanks for that, Judge Advocate Hyanygo. Yes, The United Defenders League did have its usual Movie Night during last week and we happily watched Hook. Apparently when youre older you have a different perspective on parts of Hook, so it was a lot of fun. Communist Quinntopia and Pharaoh Mad Jack, also graced us with their presence for Movie Night. In other administrative news, we happily promoted Johz to the position of Lieutenant a week or so ago. Lieutenant Johz has served with us loyally, almost since the beginning he joined a week after we publically revealed ourselves. Since then, he has often been the Robin to Lieutenant Ravanias Batman the dynamic duo of detaggers. This promotion was long overdue and I was happy to see the Lieutenants approve the promotion in an enthusiastic consensus.
Furthermore, we have a new policy, http://s4.zetaboards.com/UDL/topic/9829200/1/. This policy was approved by our lieutenants; it received a fairly passionate defense as momentum rose in a recent Chiefs of Staff meeting. The basis of the policy is that we will be continuing our old Nazi Policy and we are reaffirming our stance against hate, the oppression and discrimination of minorities and social intolerance. However, we have come to believe that the values of Defenderdom stress upon us that the invasion of white supremacist and fascist regions is not behavior becoming of defenders (regardless of whether they do it off-duty). First, our oath requests us to be incorruptible in the face of intense adversaries its not much of a standard to be incorruptible if were doing the same thing against NAZI EUROPE and The Greater German Reich as they do against others (which we deplore), just on the basis of them being especially offensive. Moreover, our leadership has serious doubts whether armed conflict against Nazis has actually done very much good at all when you make Nazis, the ultimate villain (really the only consistent villain for many political regions) you in fact make it cool for some players to play the role of Nazi in NationStates. We believe that rational and mature dialogue is the best way (although often ineffective) to counter Nazism in NationStates. Just to clarify: The United Defenders League has never sanctioned or organized an invasion against a Nazi region. Our new policy means that our members have an obligation to not participate in these operations altogether.

Oh yeah the war thingy-doo about the do-da-doo Concosia thingy, yeah right. Nonetheless, in recognition of the fact that February was one of the most intense naps in the history of invasion history, The United Defenders League http://s4.zetaboards.com/UDL/single/?p=8211821&t=9460609 for their month-long disappearance which has kept NationStates safer than ever before. Were very excited to have Carta and Campinia return. Frankly, Campinia and Carta are family and weve missed them very much. As Im sure many of you have heard, there was an incident during last week where one of our Lieutenants reportedly leaked a thread (connected to the invasion of Warhammer 40000) to individuals in The United Defenders League the disclosure of the thread was rash and disreputable on this officers part. During the crisis, punishments, some permanent and some temporary were dished out to members of The United Defenders League who read or were aware of the leaked thread.
In the event that members could not be proven to have been unaware of the threads (they had no alibi), members were suspended of duties anyway to ensure that all guilty parties received their due.
In many ways, the people punished the most with these suspensions were the people who had to take on the duties of the missing lieutenants and superior officers. Halving our staff for a week (and then some of the remaining officers attending Spring Break on top of that), left the organization, as a whole, majorly understaffed. So Id just like to thank all of the senior staff who led The United Defenders League during the past week. Also: thank you, Lieutenant Earth, for serving as the UDL Standing Leadership; Im so sorry that Lieutenant Earth got saddled with my job for a week because I know its one of the toughest positions in NationStates and its even harder during crises I thought she did a marvellous job of organizing the inquiry of the event and otherwise leading the organization during this week.
Nonetheless, with that disarray and staff shortage, The United Defenders League sadly wasnt able to free Warhammer 40000 from The Black Hawks that was probably the greatest punishment that could have been levied against a defender and I think myself and the other Lieutenants were affected by that greatly. However, we gave it a good shot not many organizations can organize and run four solid operations back-to-back every twelve hours with twenty+ soldiers.

Our big mission of the past few weeks was a liberation of The Islamic Republic of Iran against the National Socialist League an overwhelming 26-20 victory. Also, on March 17, The United Defenders League lead defenderdom into battle against The Black Riders during a minor update and defeated The Black Riders soundly defenderdom was responsible for protecting more than 70% of The Black Riders targeted victims. Additionally, The Greenwood Band also liberated Avalon from its Kantrian (Kantrian not Kantian, nowhere neeear Kantian – goddahm spellcheck!) overlords.
Excellent job guys. Below is the military ribbon for The Islamic Republic of Iran and Avalon liberations and the medal awarded for the merit shown during those remarkable defences on March 17.
The Greenwood Band also contributed to the liberations of Middle Earth, Gensokyo, Samsung, Death Star and The Armed Coalition, the latter against The West Pacific Armed Forces. There were also some liberations, defences and just general skirmishes through the week that we didnt record. The battlefield has been steadily getting more active as we approach April. During the past week, our Defender Assistant, FriarTuck has been offline, so Lieutenant Johz (bless him), went out of his way to code us a substitute assistant. In administrative news, The United Defenders Leagues officers have voted in favor of ascending St. Georgie (Mad Jack) to the Hall of Honour although a current member, he was (mistakenly) not moved to the Hall of Honour during his past departure from The United Defenders League.
Furthermore, The Greenwood Band is very happy to announce that The East Pacific has recently ratified An Act of Friendship, Development and Mutual Respect for Sovereignty between The East Pacific and The United Defenders League. The treaty is a strong legislative icebreaker for a bright future for our diplomatic relationship; the treaty outlines The United Defenders Leagues development program with The East Pacific, in addition to The East Pacific recognizing that they “sympathize with The United Defenders League’s noble cause of securing these freedoms abroad across NationStates” and The United Defenders League praising The East Pacific’s stability, reasonableness and maturity.

It appears as if the F.R.I.A.R.T.U.C.K Security System has decided to combat the Zombie Eight Ball by asking the question, “What Brains?” on a loop. This has divided the Zombie Eight Ball: on one hand it feels compelled to answer with a yes/no/maybe answer and on the other hand it wishes to devour more brains. Will this strategy work? Will the Magic Eight Ball’s baser instincts as a question-answering device overcome its state of mindlessness? We will have to watch and see.

Citizens of The East Pacific:
We are honored to have worked with your region for the past few months as a part of the treaty between The East Pacific and our United Defenders League. When Unibot and Hileville begun the discussions of this treaty, we were all excited to begin working with TEP on a more regular basis. Since the treaty’s ratification, we have enjoyed the benefits of working with TEP and the EPSA. And we hope that we can work together even more in the future.
The treaty bonding our two entities together has recently come under heated debate. This is specifically in regards to the stipulation stating that The East Pacific will not raid arbitrary regions unless in order to defend itself in a state of emergency. Recently, The East Pacific repeatedly engaged in arbitrary, offensive invasions of regions that were not threatening the security of The East Pacific.
The United Defenders League, in order to remain true to our cause of defending, will defend such regions from arbitrary invasions. We also, however, recognize that The East Pacific has the full right to invade such regions at its will. If The East Pacific would like to operate in such a way, no person or organization should try to prevent them from doing so – outside of the batttlefield. The East Pacific is a great region with great people, and it deserves full and complete sovereignty in all of its actions. The UDL has never nor would ever attempt to infringe upon the sovereignty of The East Pacific.
However, The United Defenders League cannot sit and withhold defense from these invaded regions, however much The East Pacific might request. We suggested to the East Pacific that we retain the treaty and ignore the clauses in debate if The East Pacific desires to arbitrarily invade regions, allowing the East Pacific to invade such regions whenever it desired in accordance to its own internal guidelines and allowing the United Defenders League to be true to defending and defend such regions. Through such, we would still be able to work together on a general basis. This proposal, however, was not, expectantly, acceptable to The East Pacific.
In order to ensure that both the goals of upholding the sovereignty of The East Pacific and fulfilling the United Defenders League mission of defending natives, we feel that there is no other alternative but to nullify the current treaty bonding our two entities together. We feel that this is the only option left to us, in order to stay true to defending while upholding the sovereignty of The East Pacific. We would never dare of infringing upon the latter. As such, we hope that our two organizations can still work together on a daily basis, and maskings of Foreign Liaisons (Tano, etc…) will not be removed. We hope that we can still defend and liberate with The East Pacific, and our doors are always open for further relations. Perhaps a new treaty can be drafted with more explicit stipulations and goals.
We are incredibly sorry that this treaty had to be withdrawn, but we feel that this is best for both the United Defenders League and The East Pacific, since it will allow The East Pacific to retain its sovereignty and the United Defenders Leagues mission to defend.
We hope to continue working with The East Pacific in the future, and our doors will always be open. If any of you have any questions, please feel free to contact us and we will happily reply.
