Writers block, anyone?

So. For the past while I have been formulating the plot-line for, and writing, a book. I have done various short stories before, and a few longer compilations, but this is my first full length novel. I may be somewhat biased, but I really like what I’ve come up with so far.

Then came a roadblock. For some reason, I just can’t seem to make the next section flow smoothly, or work well with what I’ve already written. I don’t know if I can actually call this writers block, but it is driving me insane. I thought maybe if I started writing short stories again, something would come to me, and I have also started partaking in some RPs here, but neither of these things have helped.

So my somewhat shallow question after this lengthy explanation is this: Do we have any other writers here? (Judging by some of the more complex RPs, my deduction to the answer of that question is heck yes) And if you are on of these talented people, have you ever come up against something similar when writing? How did you get past it?

It has been almost a month since I’ve made any real progress with my book, and it is starting to get a bit disheartening. I figured here was a good a place as any to bring forth a question like this. Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated!

Im always full of ideas, but alas, I am too lazy to write them down or RP them out.
Such a failure.
So I draw madness then!
But seriously, what do you need ideas with specifically.

Ditto… except the madness.

I’m not really looking for anything specific to my current writing, more just general ideas as to what other people might do for writing exercises, or what some people have done when they come up to a mental block. Do you usually just let it sit for a while, then come back to it when inspiration strikes? Or do you find working through it helps more, rewriting what you don’t like over again? Is there something you need to do (i.e. go for a walk, listen to music) before or during writing that helps your ideas flow? I’m using my current writing dilemma as my personal example, but am really curious to hear what, if anything, helps for other people.

I have a friend who swears by the “shut yourself off from the rest of the world until you have a hundred pages written in a weekend” method, but I don’t think I can handle that kind of intensity. Plus I find the quality really suffers when I’m under pressure to get a deadline. Maybe I just need to get used to it, though? It does force words onto a page.

My advice (I pondered hours over this):

I’m a shitty writer. So I can’t offer much help- just take as much time as needed, for ideas will come easier.

Watch amazing movies.
Or draw fancy art works.

I’ve had kind of a ‘mini writer’s block’ this week, and I noticed it after my last RP post - the quality of writing from myself, I feel, was down in that post, and I needed to take a break.

For me, usually taking a few breaks and doing something different tends to help things. You know, not thinking too hard about it and stuff, just trying to set a good pace until I feel like I’m ready. But by tonight, I’ll be ready to RP a few posts again! I am already falling behind in a few of them, but I promise I’ll get on it!

I have written many stories and posted some online but its so hard to finish them. I love to begin but, I don’t know if it’s that I lose interest or what but I just start a new one. When I’m not sure what to write next I go for walks. Usually my writing takes place in very specific moods where I am completely inspired and I really write lots but then I may not add anything for weeks after.

Well then you should fit in well with TEP RP!

Ive been suffering from it for like 3 years

Gives Loop and everyone else anti-writer’s block pills

Begone, mind-obstacles!!

Loop “what are these things”
Todd “writers Block pills Loop, they will make you able to write all night, about all kinds of things”
Loop “Im not sure I want to take them I may get addicted”
Todd " you cannot get addicted, and the only side effect is getting tired and finger blisters"
