A New Dawn Has Broken

A New Dawn Has Broken will cover the events of the 2023 Cappedore coup, as a result of the Homradska. Through the perspective the diary entries of a Moyen-Orient University politics student called Amoura Farran.

For some context: Moyen-Orient is a city in Vernalis, Cappedore, and its university is historically well-known for its in-depth political science courses, with some of the greatest political and philosophical minds of Cappedore having studied there. This RP will document an ongoing event within Cappedore, which is soon to become Wealden.

Moyen-Orient University, Vernalis

We never thought it would happen… but it did.

Yesterday, Murray’s coalition of chaos finally destroyed itself! I can only imagine the ass-kicking that a 200-MP walkout must give her. Now, she’s finally lost her position, the trust of her own party, and the trust of us, the people.

Now, I’m a socialist myself; my first instinct, or at least many would assume so, would be to support the Social Democratic Party and its continued dominance over the spectrum these last twenty years. However, to any ordinary person, the last six years have brought out the very worst in the so-called “progressives” in the CSDP. Ever since Vikki Slade’s resignation from the Liberal Union and indeed the Deputy Chancellor position, we’ve been speculating about the true intentions of the CSDP. I mean, just look at the heat she brought to Ken Yates’ government. I’m quite proud that each and every person that has been able to bring down a corrupt CSDP politician has been a woman.

But aside from that, forget about the last six years; I’m writing here about the last fuckin’ month, man. It has been insane. It’s always been a utopian idea that the Wealdenites and the Thomarians would work with certain political parties in the Gemotern to bring down corrupt governments. And yet, here we are, and it just fucking happened!

The so-called “Homradska” has been the very thing that this country has needed since the beginning of the Thomarian Troubles in the 1930s; a good ol’ revolution. Granted, not as violent as the one that created it in the first place, but a revolution nonetheless! Allow me to apply some background here. Our class at university has been watching the drama unfold with a very keen eye from our armchairs and our accommodation rooms.

Basically, on 11 April this year, a huge wave of protests, civil unrest, and demonstrations erupted all across the country. From Dorchester to Fort Clement, this country saw the biggest mass uprising since the revolution in the early 1800s; and I have been loving it. As have the demonstrators themselves, it would seem. Most notably, on 15 April, thousands of people gathered outside of The Oracle in Absolution calling for the instant resignation of the Chancellor and the President instantaneously. Everything has been leading up to this moment; from the murder of Isaac Kipling to the Normae Massacre. The “democratic” “libertarian” “socialist” “progressive” “inclusive” corrupt state of Cappedore has well and truly shown its true colours, and even its most loyal citizens have switched to support the Wealdenites. It all culminated in the mass gathering outside of the Oracle, the very birthplace of democracy in Cappedore, the birthplace of the first concordat, the base of operations of the United Assembly. And what a sight it has been. Who would’ve thought that the “most democratic nation in the world” would finally be facing its own revolution? The CSDP haven’t seemingly shut up about it since the assassination of President Ramsay back in ‘07. And I was only a kid when that happened.

The media have dubbed this mass demonstration the “Homradska”, meaning “Will Of The People” in native Thomarian and Wealdenite. Causes of the Homradska can date back to the early days of Cappedore’s formation. Before the revolution, two kingdoms existed on this island; Thomaria and Wealden. The two kingdoms were closely tied together, having been bound by royal marriage, bound by a long-lasting and strong military alliance, and furthermore bound by their dislike of the colonizing Morstaybishlians.

When Cappedore had a revolution from 1801 to 1806, Thomaria and Wealden fell into the fighting. Once the revolution had been won, the Constitutional Congress of the Cappedorite state had promised both kingdoms protection and freedom from the outside world if they were to join the utopian, idealized “United Republic”, and yet they had no idea that they were just simply selling away their independence. They were promised that they were allowed to secede from the union at any point, but the moment they joined, Fulton’s “principles of grand centralism” came into effect, practically banning any and all new states from holding votes or declaring to leave the united republic. It was chaos. It’s pretty much what spurred all of this.

Then, by the 1920s, the Thomarian Troubles began, starting with the Thomarian Revolution in 1922, which subsided into smaller, but equally violent conflicts in the cities of Thomaria all throughout the 20th century. The Thomarian Liberation Front, which have played a pretty major role in the Homradska it seems, bombed Cappedorite cities, including my very own hometown of Starlight. My mother always said that the bombings made her hate both the Thomarians and the Cappedorites.

Moving on to the Wealdenites, well, they’ve always been troublemakers. They were reluctant to join the new republic in 1809, but still did anyway out of fear that they would be swallowed by some other foreign state, or eventually violently swallowed by the expanding state of Cappedore. So pretty much, those who are Wealdenites and have Wealdenite heritage have forever felt discontented living within Cappedore; and when they joined, they didn’t even get their own state! They single-handedly assisted the Thomarians in their scraps with the government and even assisted the United Isles when Cappedore invaded them in the 90s.

Oh boy, that’s a whole new can of worms. The United Isles. Attlee, Amorterra, and Lupinland. The more I look at that, the more it seems that the Cappedorite government just wanted somebody new to bully after seemingly silencing the Thomarians at the 1990 Great Reform Act. Those lots have felt enraged at Cappedore ever since it invaded their homeland.

So, what does all of this have to do with the Homradska, I hear you ask? Well, like I said… this whole “revolution” is just all of these disgruntled, angry, and enraged people banding together against a state which has forever remained too dominant. The first demonstration took place at Fort Clement, in Attlee, on 11 April, and it all sparked from there. It’s just taken so long that the protests eventually grew violent and the elected members of the CSDP quite obviously had enough of Maya Murray’s warmongering. Not to mention the CSDP’s constant shutdowns of a Thomarian independence referendum.

So, yesterday, two-hundred sitting CSDP Gemotern members resigned, left the party, or defected to the party I’m in, which is the People’s Reform Party. This meant that our leader, Cathryn Gargano, who has been working closely with the Thomarians, the Wealdenites, and all of those protesting, was able to call a vote of no confidence and successfully take the position of Chancellor. Murray was unceremoniously cooped, and I can only imagine that President Merrill must be shitting his pants right now.

Tonight, and possibly for the last time ever, the Gemotern (now PRP-dominated) will convene to vote on and submit the first Provisional Concordat of Wealden. If it passes, (which, let’s be honest, it probably will) then the state of Cappedore will be dissolved and the Provisional State of Wealden will be officially established. It’s only a matter of time until we’re finally living under a free, reformed, greater homeland…
