It was just before middday in East Berlitow and inside the Palace of the Republic, Erich Honecker, Ernst Ulbricht and Hristov Zhivkov were attending a meeting of the politburo.
“Are there any suggestions for the agenda” Honecker asked the politburo
“General Secretary, Erich, I propose that a new item be placed on the agenda. It is the removal of Ernst Ulbricht’s economic reform project.” Taraki Kivlok replied
“Well, then I open the debate.” Honecker responded calmly
Many people then shuffled their papers around and quietly talked to the people around them for a few minutes until Kivlok stood up again.
“Comrades, although the reform by Dear Comrade Ulbricht have noble intentions, I cannot help but be alarmed by it’s revisionist polices.”
“The most obvious of which is being the options it opens up for foreign intervention in the economy! Not only that but it also provides the foundation for the restoration of the markets and inevitably, capitalism!” Kivlok spoke to group with passion
“It is be-” Kivlok said before he was cut off as the whole building suddenly shook.
Outside the front of the building a massive car bomb had just gone off and the whole building lurched backwards as a massive fireball and smoke plume rose into the sky.
Inside the meeting room the ceiling began collapsing as the tiling fell down onto the desk. Ernst Ulbricht and Hristov Zhivkov were both hit by falling tiles and many other members of the politburo were hit by the shrapnel and debris flying around. At the same time the lights flickered before switching off and plunging the room into darkness.
The politburo would remain trapped inside the meeting room until they were rescued hours later by a group of firefighters and rescue workers. Ernst Ulbricht, Hristov Zhivkov and another politburo member, Scott Winton were pronounced dead at the scene whilst most of the remaining politburo members including Erich Honecker were hospitalised.
A media blackout was then quickly established around the area and eventually extended across the whole country as the government and intelligence services attempted to figure out what exactly had happened.
The West Cerdan Government however knew exactly what had happened, and it went according to plan but they did not expect it to kill such senior members of the leadership.
Their own intelligence service then began covering up it’s tracks and cutting off any loose ends.
