Albion Gets Going!

A view of Albion from Bowerstone’s gates

Though around for a few months now, Albion kicked it off properly on 22nd April 2013, with the founding of the forum and the promulgation of Royal Edict I that established the basic framework of law for the region until a full set is drafted and voted on by the Knights of the Round Table, which currently serves as our legislature and executive, and by the citizens of the region. Based on a mix of the Fable games and of Arthurian legend, Albion is a constitutional monarchy but with a twist. Much like the Fable games City States will play a prominent part, with the first three currently being established, which will be discussed below. Currently it is shaping up that each City State shall elect or appoint a Lord Mayor who shall serve in the upper house of the legislature, the Grand Council, along with three members appointed by the King from the Knights and Peers of the region as well as the Arch-Mage who shall chair it. The Lower Council will be directly elected from the citizenry of Albion. The executive shall will be the Knights of the Round Table. The domestic Knights, Welcoming, Naturalisation, Culture and Roleplay/Lore, will be directly elected by the Albion’s citizens while the War and Foreign Knights will be appointed by the King.

It is an exciting time as systems are being sorted, with much still unknown about how the dynamics of the region’s institutions will shape up and we are all looking forward to the future which enthusiasm!

Activity Thrives and the Population Soars!

Since the 22nd Albion has made great strides in establishing itself as an active and significant region. In just eight days the region has grown from only one nation to eighty at the time of writing, and the forum now has 29 members and over 2,400 posts, and all before the first proper Government has been established! We have seen a great deal of competition for the honour of being the region’s World Assembly Delegate, which is open to any nation in the region if they can gather enough endorsements and the RMB has seen some mischief with Black Aspen’s stealing the High Commander’s hat and refusing to give it back. On the forum we have seen some debauchery in the Cow & Corset Tavern as well as some serious law making in the Knight’s Hall and some interesting discussions in the Town Square.

High Commander of the Royal Guards Appointed and a Break-in to Investigate

http://cdn.gamerant.com/wp-content/uploads/Thief-4-Castle-Screenshot.jpg
A thief sneaks into Castle Fairfax, home of the King.

On the 28th April, His Imperial and Royal Majesty King Charles appointed the Knight of the Round Table Fuzzy Vinage to the role of High Commander of the Royal Guard. Fuzzy swiftly acted to set up recruitment practices for the guards, and the ranks of guardsman and the commissioned rank of Knight. He also visited the Bowerstone market stall of Black Aspens who provided the High Commander with some new insignia for each rank:

High Commander, Knight, Guardsman

The elite force, responsible for the protection of the King and the Royal Family, as well guarding Castle Fairfax has been quickly thrust into action though with a break in at Castle Fairfax. A disgruntled King was temporarily distracted from knitting his new scarf but the Royal Guards are now on the case. It is hoped they will quickly find the intruder before any trouble has been caused.

Establishment of First City States

It is hoped that City States will soon become a central part of Albion though they are still in their early stages. Each one will be themed on specific aspects of the region and new citizens will choose which to join when they apply for citizenship. Joshua IX has been appointed the first patron of Brightwall, which will be themed around culture and RP; MagentaFairy has become the patron of Shalefields, a military state and Edward Leben has been appointed patron of Silverpine, a state focused on legislative activities. Though membership of a certain state doesn’t preclude a citizen running for the legislature, getting involved in RPs or becoming a soldier, each City State will be a focal point for these activities. The initial patrons have been responsible for the naming of their States and over the coming days will begin the recruitment for them from among the existing citizenry and will fill in some of the backstory for all of them. Each state is free to decide on what means it wants to appoint its Lord Mayor, be it elected or hereditary or anything else they can think of, so they will also need to decide on how to do this. We look forward to seeing how this will turn out!

Royal Albion Legion takes first Victory

Knights of the Royal Albion Legion charge into battle

In an impromptu and last minute action at the minor update of the 29th April, Albion’s gameplay army, the Royal Albion Legion, rode into battle for the first time under The Warbringer, Lord High Constable, Isidor C. Stark, who had only been appointed earlier that day. Though timings were slightly off, entirely the fault of variance of course, the ambush went entirely unnoticed and the region was successfully taken:

As the Legion establishes itself over the coming weeks we expect to see the Knights of Albion riding successfully across the face of Nationstates.

Cool! I’ll have to check the region out, I’ve played the Fable games quite a few times, and I admit, I’m a bit of a fantasy junkie.

I’ve only just started playing Fable III thanks to the region XD In my undergraduate house though I watched three different house mates play through the second one before then playing it through twice myself. Such a good game!

I don’t think Fable III is as good as the others, but it’s the only one I currently have. It’s still good though.

An Invitation to the Royal Festival of Albion

His Imperial and Royal Majesty, Charles Cerebella, would like to invite the people of The East Pacific to attend a Royal Festival that shall be taken place on the Fields of Bowerstone from the 11th May in honour of the conclusion of Albion’s first elections for the Lower Council and for the Round Table.

Events will include a jousting tournament & a melee competition and there will be beer and food tents for guests as well as other games to take part in. Please feel free to set up your own tents selling your wares or services. The King shall also be personally hosting a Royal Feast that shall take place in Fairfax Castle.

Should you attend you are asked to nominate a champion to represent you in the jousting tournament. Entry is open to anyone for the melee competition.

I look forward to your attendance! Our forums can be found http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Realm_of_Albion/index/.

Inaugural Elections!

The People of Albion queue to vote in the region’s first elections

With the passing of the first set of laws, in the form of a King’s Law, the highest law in the land, and five Shire Laws, which established things like the legislative, the Lower Council and the Grand Council, and the Executive, the Knights of the Round Table, the region’s first elections began on 4th May. Edward Leben, Harbinger, Alex, MagentaFairy, Christopher Bishop, Isidor C. Anumia and Fuzzy ran for the Lower Council meaning that with 7 people standing there were five seats up for grabs. It was a closely fought race and the final results were:

Edward Leben 5 (13.9%)
Harbinger 3 (8.3%)
Alex 4 (11.1%)
MagentaFairy 7 (19.4%)
Christopher Bishop 4 (11.1%)
Isidor C. Anumia 7 (19.4%)
Fuzzy 6 (16.7%)

With Christopher and Alex both tied a run off election was held, with Silverpiner Alex prevailing over Shalefielder Christoper in the end by seven votes to five.

In the Round Table elections Harbinger and Christopher Bishop both ran unopposed for Knight Cultural and Knight Interior respectively and were elected though with both receiving some abstains. The Chief Bard position was contested between Brightwaller Black Aspens and Silverpiner Edward Leben, with the former prevailing in the end by 9 votes to 3.

Royal Festival a Stunning Success

The Fields of Bowerstone where the Royal Festival was held

To celebrate the conclusion of Albion’s elections, King Charles Cerebella issued an invitation to each City State, and to all foreign regions which Albion has embassies with, inviting them to attend a Royal Festival and to nominate a Champion to take part in a jousting competition. Over the week the festival was going on over 800 posts were made and much fun and frivolity was had! Highlights included the Royal Feast, where the Warbringer Isidor C. Anumia, ended up stealing all the steaks, the caek Stall ran by our resident owl Fuzzy, where vomit was a bonus ingredient on the Cakes thanks to Mazerian diplomat, Matthew Vinage overdosing on winegums and caek, and the tightly fought points game where the City State of Brightwall ended supreme. On the Tournament Ground, the King’s Champion and High Commander of the Royal Guards, Fuzzy, was beaten in the first round as was United Kingdom Champion Victor Magnus and Brightwall Champion Kenneth MacAlpin. In the Semi-Finals, Silverpine Champion Edward Leben’s squire proved unable to overcome Shalefield’s Champion Christopher Bishop and Spiritus Champion Charax was eliminated by Lazarus’s Forge A96. In the final, despite a valiant fight, Christopher Bishop prevailed over Forge to hand victory to the military city state of Shalefields! Our thanks go to Majestas of Mordor who was kind enough to write a points based programme to work out the results, a much better system than the coin flipping I had originally intended to do to work out the results!

Royal Albion Legion Rampages Across NationStates!

The Realm of Albion proves which is the superior fantasy world by seizing Middle Earth

In a busy few weeks, Albion’s gameplay military, the Royal Albion Legion, has been seen on a number of battlefields across NS. The highlight was the capture of Middle Earth by five Knights of Albion, commanded by the newly appointed deputy commander, the Earl Marshall Magenta Fairy. Also since the last update the RAL has done a further three tags in The Hippiedom, The Creed and Luna. We have also participated in our friend’s Balder’s capture of Warzone Australia:

And have also supported Europeia in St Abbaddon and joined with the United Imperial Armed Forces of The New Inquisition and The Land of Kings and Emperors in a tag run of seven regions on the major update of the 26th May. Furthermore, the Royal Albion Legion was able to provide four updaters with just six minutes notice to aid the dirty defenders the FRA and the UDL in their liberation of a region from Nazi control, demonstrating the RAL’s operational flexibility in the process.

Albion’s Population Soars

Though Albion only celebrated its first month anniversary last week on the 22nd, already Albion has established itself as one of the fastest growing regions in Nationstates with a population of 251 nations at the time of writing. With a large number of these nations joining the forums as active citizens, it is an exciting time to be a part of the region! The promising growth within the NS region has also been replicated with activity on the forum with Albion now up to over 7,400 posts! Though things have been a little slower the past few days while a number of people have been either away or otherwise busy, posting is already on the rise again and it won’t be too long until the 10,000 barrier is broken!

An Heir is Born!

His Imperial Highness, Christopher Bishop, Crown Prince of Albion

On 14th May, His Imperial and Royal Majesty, King Charles Cerebella announced the appointment of his son, Christopher Bishop to the role of Heir Apparent of Albion, it having been vacant previously. His Imperial Highness has been delegated admin powers and the right to do routine admin tasks, and will be further delegated powers to sign laws during temporary absences of the King. In addition to Chris’s appointment, His Highly Learned Magnificence, Joshua IX has been delegated admin powers for routine tasks and the wonderful penguin r3naissanc3r has been made a technical admin and has already kitted the forum out with mass pm abilities and a fancy new header!

Treaties! Treaties Everywhere!

It has been a busy few weeks for the Knights of the Round Table with a number of treaties having been negotiated and requiring ratification. Albion has so far concluded a Treaty of Friendship between us and Ainur, the Treaty of Avalon with The New Inquisition, the Treaty of Friendship Between Mazeria and Albion, the Treaty of Pendragon with the Land of Kings and Emperors and the Treaty of Friendship between Albion and Europeia (2013) and we have also ratified the Arnhelm Declaration of Recruitment Standards. Further to these we have signed the The Treaty of Camelot with Balder which as well as the standard military and intelligence provisions found in most treaties, also innovatively places our two regions in the same roleplay universe which we are hopeful will lead to some great cultural interactions between our regions! Talks are already underway for our first cultural events and joint RPs so we’re looking forward to seeing what will come out of that!

Appointment of Sheriff of Bowerstone

North East Somerset Looking Sultry

Veteran security and intelligence specialist North East Somerset has been appointed by the King to the position of Sheriff of Bowerstone. This role shall head the Royal Intelligence Organisation, which is responsible for Albion’s security both internally and externally and will ‘further be responsible for ensure the safety of trade routes through Albion and for protecting the King’s deer from poachers’ as laid out by the Letters Patent IX that appointed NES. He has been furnished with a Deep Pink masking to complement his new role.

Election Madness and Governmental Reforms!

http://assets3.parliament.uk/iv/main-large//ImageVault/Images/id_8190/scope_0/ImageVaultHandler.aspx.jpg
The ballot boxes ready for people to vote in the region’s second elections

After a very productive first term for the region, election time came again to Albion. One of the major changes for the region between the elections was the incorporation of the new “Chief Knight” position to the Knights of the Round Table. The Chief Knight, who is elected by the people, appoints and oversees the Chief Bard, Knight Interior, and Knight Cultural to ensure that the domestic affairs of the region are constantly improving. This change will allow more input by the region’s citizens into the government and also allow for a more efficient and effective government.

In the Chief Knight Elections, Harbringer overwhelmingly won the election taking 55% of the overall vote from a field of four candidates. Other candidates were Crixus, Duke of Cambridge, and Edmund Chiramos. After being elected, Harbringer appointed Celeste Holland to the position of Chief Bard, Tano to the position of Knight Interior, and himself as Knight Culture.

The Lower Council Election was once again very competitive. Edward Leben, Isidor C. Anumia, Brent Forthwind, and Crixus were elected outright during the election while Edmund Chiramos and Duke of Cambridge were forced into a run-off. The run-off resulted with Edmund Chiramos taking the fifth Lower Council seat. Once elected, the Lower Council voted Isidor C. Anumia as the Speaker of the Lower Council with unanimous approval.

Royal Albion Legion Captures Quebec!

The RAL prepares for the final assault

An all Albion force raided Quebec on the 5th of June. Leading the raid was King Charles Cerebella and The Warbringer, Isidor C. Anumia, and aided by Terecius Malan, Joshua IX, Edward Leben, r3n, Odin Pendragon and MagentaFairy. A total of 50 endorsements at the height were rallied over two days. Mazeria, The United Imperial Armed Forces (The New Inquisition and the Land of Kings and Emperors), Europeia ,The Black Hawks, Asgard and Kantrias all provided support following the update. Together, the Royal Albion Legion held Quebec with zero resistance and left on their own accord after the city was drained of its wine.

King Cerebella, dressed in his favorite outfit, emparts honours onto MagentaFairy

The King, after the second Lower Council elections, handed out the first round of honours and titles to several citizens of the realm. First in the line-up for awards given are Chivalric Orders. MagentaFairy and Isidor C. Anumia were made Knights Ordinary the Order of the Helm; an award given out to citizens for their outstanding service to the military.

The next round of Orders goes to people who contribute to culture of the realm. Many are wordsmiths of various degrees and others are active for their contributions to regional activity. For those who have dedicated a lot of time on Albion the Order of Quill is handed out. Ulyana Dragunova is made Knight Ordinary of Order of the Quill. Now for the spammers who help out in the festivals of the region are made Knight Ordinary of Order of the Flagon. Congrats to Fuzzy and Harbinger.

There is also a quick shout out to the Tericius Malan (McMasterdonia) who was given the title of Baron of Mistspeak for his contributions to the initial start of the region.

Now for a big round of all applause for the many who received titles and awards. Maybe next time we will be graced with more faces to the grand hall of rewards.

Founding of the Kingdom of Albion Roleplay Kicks Off

The regions and notable features of Albion

After a number of delays, the Founding of the Kingdom of Albion roleplay has now kicked off with a vengance. Set hundreds of years before the Albion of today, the RP will run over a few hundred years as various Houses compete to end the centuries of disunity and forge the first Kingdom with them on the throne. The aim of the roleplay is to help provide some of the lore of the region, as well as people having fun! With already 15 Houses involved, and almost a thousand posts made, it has got off to a flying start as people make marriage alliances and try and solidify their dominions and expand their borders, though some have already had set backs, with House Leben’s attempt to demand the submission of the town of Janley ending in the slaughter of their delegation, right down to the musicians that accompanied them. We’ll keep you updated over the coming months how they get on!

Albion’s City States Continue to Develop

Here is what is going on in each of the three City-States:

Silverpine has been off to a rough start. First there was the semi-active Patron, and overall just not enough people. But Silverpine has pushed through and got over the activity bump! The now have a well written Standibg Orders which has created the main legislative body, the Council of Scribes. After a few days of voting, three people were elected to serve; those people being Alex, Duke of Cambridge, and Brent Forthwind. After a few days of inactivity in the Council finally approved their Minor Order, which gives the Council it’s protocol. Alex has been elected to serve as The Lord Speaker of Silverpine, and to reflect their opinions in the Grand Council. Hopefully this is the start to a bright future for Siverpine.

  • Alex Stewart, Lord Speaker of Silverpine

Shalefields may have the smallest member base, but some of the most active members claim Shalefields as their City State. Instead of focusing on getting everyone to agree on legislation that is passing in the Councils, they choose to let that be in the hands of the Archduchess. They will focus more on community, building up a base of support where individuals can grow within Albion and maybe NationStates as a whole should they want that. Shalefields is also planning to create a private unit of raiders. For now, Shalefields stands strong with active members and a firm sense of comradeship. Shalefields is the elite City-State of Albion.

-MagentaFairy, Archduchess of Shalefields

Brightwall has been a hive of activity. Its Citizens have enacted a Charter (a constitution of sorts) and have elected their First Lady Mayor and a set of three Aldermen. The legislature is ticking over nicely, having passed a couple of amendments to the Charter to allow for the improved recognition of excellence by enabling the Lady Mayor to give out honours. Outside of politics, our Citizens have been enjoying some drinks and RP in the Red Drinker, one of Brightwall’s choicest taverns.

-Joshua IX, Warden Palatine of Brightwall

New Treaties and A Festival of Friendship

Since the last update at the end of May, Albion’s diplomats have kept busy. Building on our earlier treaties, Albion has now signed the Treaty of Mercia with Kantrias, participated in the Monarchist Conference that took place in the Land of Kings and Emperors, ratifying the treaty that came out of that, and has also ratified the Bealtaine Accord (2013). We look forward to developing our relationship with Kantrias, and to the cultural benefits of the latter two treaties.

As well as this, over two weekends at the end of June, Europeia and Albion held a joint festival to celebrate the signing out our treaty. The first leg in Europiea went off brilliantly, before moving to Albion for a Solstice celebration with many hundreds of posts made over both legs. Thanks for the great party Europeia and for being such good guests!

The following may or may not be true, which is true is for you to decide

-The Royal Guards have been on their second mission, massacring rioting peasants in the village of Hardwood-In-The-Valley after a knitting competition got feisty. The Royal Albion Legion, meanwhile, is campaigning in King’s Hazelnut Orchard, trying to finally defeat the rabid squirrels that have plagued it, to mixed success so far.

-Lord High Constable of the RAL, MagentaFairy, was recently embroiled in scandal as she admitted that she has never raided naked. King Cerebella was in shock at the news as he stumbled around, he commented “I’m deeply disappointed by this, hell, I refuse to wear clothes even when I’m not raiding…a raider must always be prepared for action”. This reporter got to see this first hand…and lets just say that his body has not aged well. The Lord High Constable has reportedly promised to go full nude for the next RAL raid.

-A new power couple has emerged in Albion as Chief Bard Celeste Holland and Fuzzy have become Celefuzz. Reports of the paparazzi chasing them down have circulated though Fuzzy, who is an owl, has evaded them several times by simply taking flight.

Election Fever is Here Again!

http://images.politico.com/global/2012/11/121106_early_voting_reuters_328.jpg
Albion lines up to do what they do best: vote on computers.

Citing RL and school time constraints, Chief Knight Decimus Aemilianus, resigned from his post and due to a technicality in the Shire Laws that has since been fixed, caused the Lower Council to dissolve with it. A staggering number of potential candidates stepped up to campaign and led the King to declare that the Fourth Term Lower Council would consist of seven members. Returning were Isidor C. Anumia, Elizabeth Cerebella, Tyrion Vinage and Brent Forthwind. New to the Lower Council this term are Feniris Cerebella-Vinage, Detritus and Rah Orion. Brent Forthwind was elected to the position of Speaker shortly thereafter, naming Feniris as his Deputy.

The Chief Knight race was hotly contested by two of Albion’s veteran members; Cassius Cerebella and Sir Fuzzy Vinage. They both ran a tight race, but in the end it came down to just one vote with Cassius coming ahead after an astounding vote turnout of 27. Congratulations to everyone that ran and won! We also hope to see back all those who didn’t make it.

Crucible Busier Than Ever!

On top of our Founding RP, Albion has a whopping four RPs active at any given time on our forums. Thanks to a dedicated core of citizens, we have RPs to interest any and all who join! In the “Olympus Resort” RP, create a character that is the child of an all powerful God of mythological origins. Place them in a resort with other demigod children and the interactions are bound to entertain. Don’t let the name fool you thought! Your characters aren’t limited to Greek Gods. Some of our most well known characters are the sons and daughters of Norse and Egyptian Gods, plus countless others!

In the RP known as “That’s no moon! That’s a Roleplay” you can play as either a simple Scoundrel, Sith or a Jedi and together, these two groups must work to foil a plot worked by an unseen hand with the sole goal of plunging the Galactic Core into war once more. Why? What’s this unseen menace seek to gain? Come and find out!

One of our newest RPs is “Arg! That’s My Arm!” Taking place in post-apocalyptic Pennsylvania, follow a strange group of survivors as they seek to find safe haven in this new world. Characters include a former College basketball star, several former military, an MI6 agent and a few mechanics as they kill zombies. There might even be some romance found within the group.

Lastly, our most in depth RP which has just started is “War in Westeros”. Come follow an Alternate Universe Game of Thrones RP that takes place almost a hundred years prior to the books. Daeron II Targaryen has just been crowned King following his father’s death yet the newly legitimized Bastard son, Daemon Blackfyre, seeks the throne for himself. Is that a Civil War I smell brewing on the horizon?

On Osiris

Last month, Albion concluded the The Mediterranean Accord with Osiris. The previous few weeks had seen our regions drawing closer, and Albion had been the first to publicly state their support of the government during the coup of The Dourian Embassy. Since then, Osiris has had a tumultuous few weeks and the Kemetic Republic has now been ended. Albion has informed Osiris that we will stand by our ally in whatever course her people decide to take, and they can rely on our support when needed. We look forward to the end of unrest in Osiris, and a flourishing future relationship.

Activity Boom!

We were full to bursting, but there is always room!

On September 24th, Albion broke an outrageous 60,000 posts. That’s right, you heard me correctly. We broke 60,000 posts. At 5 months old, that’s 12,000 posts a month! Want a challenge and then you can out-spam our spammers? We’re waiting for you. As part of our activity boom, Albion is enjoying her largest population at 445 nations and have broken into the Top 20!

Moar Roleplays?

Guards doing their job and protecting the Treasury.

It might seem odd to you to have not one, but two articles about Albion’s roleplays. To that, we say nay. Albion has two types of roleplays: the played created ones in the Crucible and the Region sponsored. We have currently the Founding which allows nations and citizens on the forums to create their own city on the Albion map and after creating a Lorebook, take part in the history of Albion’s founding a thousand years prior to present day.

On the other hand, we’ve recently implemented the Albion Today RP which is the exact same thing as the Founding RP, yet takes place in the present day Albion. To compliment these nation RPs, we’ve also got the Royal Guards RP which has just completed its 4th mission sop it’s never too late to join. Along with the Royal Guards is the Royal Household RP which is being run by the magnificent Malevolent Lady Clarissa Fairy at the request of the King Charles Cerebella. Alex Stewart will be assisting Fairy in this task. We’ve also implemented an RP on the RMB to allow those nations in the region to join in on the fun if they don’t want to join the forums.

Busy Busy Busy

The Government of Albion has been busy on both fronts this last month. In the Exceutive, a shakeup in our own brand of Civil Service has made it easier than ever for our citizens to find where their particular talents could be useful. Formally known as the Royal Culture Service, or RCS, it has been disbanded and replaced with the Companions. The Companions host the various recruitment postings for each section of government, including the Royal Albion Legion.

On the legislative front, both the Lower Council and the Grand Council have been hard at work passing several amendments to our Shire laws and the World Assembly Delegate Act. A new bill, the Diplomatic Protection Act, has passed the Lower Council and is currently being debated in the Grand Council.

-Albion has been a buzz with adoptions and marriages. Elizabeth Cerbella and Tyrion Vinage were married to form the Cerebella-Vinage line and immediately gave birth to Feniris and Rah Orion. Sir Seven Deaths Vinage proposed to Ulyana Fairy in the most impressive display of manliness to ever be seen in Albion since its inception and the two are now officially betrothed. Wedding date yet to be decided.

-The Albion branch of the Stoneroses hosted the first annual Albie’s Award Show. Similar to the Emmy’s in scope and humor, the Albie’s awarded many deserving Albion citizens with awards such as Best Dressed, Regional Guardian, Best Veteran, etc.

-Rah Orion, the Knight Grand Commander of the Stoneroses, also finished publishing a wonderful story centered around the Stonerose members. Stonerose the Novel totaled 17,500 words and 70 Microsoft Word pages when completed.

Once again the citizens of Albion have descended upon the voting booths, enthusiastically showing the irritable and underpaid election staff with their choices of representatives for the next government. In a hotly contested election of the Lower Council, Albion’s primary legislative body, seats went to Councillors Sir Brent Forthwind, Dame Elizabeth Cerebella, Aaron Astoria, Sir Feniris and Sir Rah Orion. The majority of these members were returning Councillors, having previously held the role, and so are already experienced in the business of governance. The exception to this is Aaron Astoria, for whom this is the first time serving the community of Albion in such a role. We wish him all the best in getting up to speed, and are confident he will be a great asset.

Following not long after this election, the incumbent Chief Knight, Sir Cassius Cerebella, chose to call for elections so that the people might elect a new candidate. Though in theory able to continue serving for another two weeks, Cassius felt he had achieved the goals of his campaign and was willing to let another citizen take the reigns. Following the precedent laid down by the last incredibly close race for the position, what followed was an intense competition for the position between Sir Feniris and Sir Rah Orion, both capable and experienced leaders. In the end, Sir Feniris emerged victorious with 53.6% of the total vote, with twenty eight total votes cast. For his cabinet, Sir Feniris has selected Sir Brent Forthwind as Knight Interior, Dame Elizabeth Cerebella as Knight Cultural, and Sir Detritus Seratheus and Chief Bard, all highly experienced and capable individuals.

Albion has been incredibly active in gameplay military affairs over the past month, involved in numerous holds as part of the United Imperial Armed Forces, as well as providing assistance to many of our allies. The highlight of this activity was the week long hold operation in Australia, which saw a large amount of UIAF troopers drawn primarily from the Albion Division, as well as a number of Albion volunteer militiamen, deployed to seize and hold the territory. Not only did these troops successfully maintain control over the unruly rabble that was the native menace, but they also valiantly repelled a large scale liberation attempt led by Unibot himself, crushing the defender horde in what was an amusingly embarrassing defeat for the so called United Defenders League. Our sincerest thanks go out to Europeia and The West Pacific in particular, as well as Kantrias and the Black Riders for their invaluable support in this stunning victory.

Furthermore, this defeat was inflicted without us even being at our full strength. At the same time as the Australia hold UIAF troopers were simultaneously deployed in missions in Islamic Republics of Iran and The Creed, supporting our honourable allies from Osiris and Kantrias respectively. Yet even when spread so thinly we were still more than a match for our opponents, who were quite simply outclassed.

Unfortunately, citing inactivity due to a plague of real life concerns and general busyness, Arch-Mage Joshua IX has announced his formal resignation from the prestigious position. He has been made a Prince by the King, His Majesty Charles Cerebella, that he may continue to loyally serve the region as he has always done when time permits. Into his place steps the new Arch-Mage Sir Seven Deaths, who brings a wealth of experience from a career of statesmanship to the role, and will no doubt fulfil his new responsibilities with both the dazzling brilliance and enviable flair expected of any master wizard. Replacing Seven Deaths as Knight Foreign is the outgoing Chief Knight, Sir Cassius Cerebella, who is currently wondering if he should order some pizza while he writes this dispatch.

Other news in domestic Albion includes the introduction of a shiny new regional news service, called The Trusty Messenger, run by the Knight Interior, Sir Brent Forthwind. Ranging from official government news and policy to silly pictures and an exclusive story by Sir Fuzzy himself, the newspaper is shaping up to be quite the read.

In more important regional news however, the infamous Monthly Avatar Contest continues to stun us all with some truly breathtaking avatar choices. When we say breathtaking there, we mean both some choices that are genuinely quote stunning, and some that are just, well, shocking. No doubt the contest will be hotly contested again this month, with the chosen theme being the Lord of the Rings.

As is fast becoming habit for Albion, we have our hands full with numerous entertaining, and sometimes rather emotionally draining, high quality role plays. The most immediately obvious of these is the Albion of Today role play, which has seen the establishment of an official regional map, for residents to claim space on for their nation. Already, over fifty nations have done exactly that. From there, the world of Albion is a total sandbox within which the nations and their characters can interact, explore, and adventure as they please. The King has also named five Wardens to oversee and administer to the needs of specific regions on the map, who will be coordinating role play events and storylines in the days to come. The first major quest of Albion of Today has actually already begun in the form of The Desert Star, which involves a small group of brave adventurers travelling to the distant lands of Aurora in search of riches and glory.

In the Crucible proper, home of all the non-canon Albion role plays, Olympus Resort has once again exploded into activity, quickly becoming our largest and most active. A new role play based in and upon the events of the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has also been started by Ashton Mercer, and has quickly seen a flurry of activity. Rather ominously, it began with a nasty case of a sadistic young prince brutally murdering his brother. A Hunger Games based role play has also been recently approved, and will be further developed in the coming days. Once again, the depth and talent of the writers in Albion continues to impress us all.

In in effort to create an exciting event for both our citizens and our allies, as well as to celebrate the glory that is the season of Autumn, Albion has recently hosted it’s first Falling Leaves Festival, open to all foreign dignitaries and citizens who wished to attend. The festival has seen an inspiring amount of activity, with over one thousand total posts, strengthening our cross regional cultural ties for the future. At the moment, the festival is starting to wind down to its conclusion, and it will soon be put away until the leaves once again fall upon us.

Also within the realm of diplomatic news, Albion is extremely pleased to announce the signing of the Treaty of the Knights who say Ni between our own region and our friends in The West Pacific. The treaty ensures our already well established cultural and military cooperation will continue into the future, and we look forward to further joint endeavours with our loyal allies.

  • Cassius was utterly confused one morning upon discovering a forum entitled “NaNoWriMo”. Eventually the enigmatic acronym was discovered to stand for National Novel Writing Month, and the forum was established as an event to promote writing in the region. Rewards have been promised for regular contributors.

  • Albion was recently ravaged by a horrid horde of zombies, but thanks to the combined efforts of certain dedicated individuals we were eventually able to contain the outbreak. All this despite the efforts of certain other individuals attempting to undermine us. cough Tano cough

  • The Royal Guards have started practicing in the use of tame llamas as potential war mounts, resulting in a dazzling display of Sir Seven Death’s unusually talented… and rather enthusiastic… mounting skills.

  • Edmund Nicholas Maximilian announced that he was officially renouncing his ties to the Vinage family, and effectively disowning his father, Sir Fuzzy. To the somewhat disturbed shock of many onlookers, he then promptly threatened to propose to his former father.

  • A scandal of sorts recently erupted in Albion Chat when it was discovered that the Crown Prince was continuing to vote in the Grand Council, despite not being legally allowed to do so. Naturally, Christopher was more than happy to bask in his own legal inconvenience, and thrived in the small controversy it created. The King was later to comment on the apparent inability of everyone in Albion Chat to understand the region’s laws.

Albion’s ridiculous activity levels have not at all declined in recent months, with the daily post count consistently totalling over five hundred posts. Remarkably, this is not actually the result of rampant spam, but can be largely attributed to general discussions, and particularly to our very active role plays. Total post counts for the month usually reach around fifteen thousand, and of these at least three thousand or so are active role play posts. The region as a whole is sitting well within the boundaries for ideal activity levels, and it’s good to see this being achieved without an overdose of spam. In fact, we just concluded our participation in National Novel Writing Month, with citizens of Albion contributing to an impressive total word count of 58,862. At this rate, Albion is set to break one hundred thousand total posts before christmas, making it officially one of the most, if not the most, active forum in NationStates.

Following the conclusion of the Falling Leaves Festival, which totalled approximately one and a half thousand posts, Albion has dived right into the next cultural extravaganza. The Albion Ice Festival has been set up to celebrate the winter as christmas approaches, and is already proving even more successful than the last festival, already achieving almost two thousand posts. Aside from the usual spam games, the festival includes a game of werewolf, and a snowball fight which has escalated rather quickly into a full scale ground war, with entire armies clashing in the snow. As always, all are welcome to attend and join in on the festivities.

In roleplay news, trouble is brewing on the horizon of the Founding of Albion. A menace grows in the western isles, bolstered by power from an ancient artifact, and determined to impose their will on an unsuspecting world. Their leader, Emperor Asvars, grows tired of the disorder and corruption of the mainland kingdoms, and increasingly resolves that ultimate peace can only be achieved through overwhelming force. The attack could come any day now, and the mainland appears completely unaware of the impending danger. Will the fiefdoms of Albion stand together against this threat? Or will their past disagreements prevent them from working together? Only time will tell whether they are able to muster a force soon enough to defeat the evil, and drive back the darkness. The fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Meanwhile, an entirely new role play has recently started up in the Crucible, called the Chaos Knights. This is set in the mystical Kingdom of Noviom, a land rife with magic and mystery. Across the Kingdom are groups of talented people who work together to solve the problems of the land, for a fee of course. These groups are referred to as Guilds. Players of this role play are invited to create a warrior of their choosing and style, and join the new Guild called the Chaos Knights. From here, they embark on quests to increase the fame and prestige of the Guild, and of course to make plenty of money. Already, the players have successfully repelled an assault by a giant and a disturbing large number of gnomes, who proved quite the annoyance to the experienced warriors. An active and exciting new role play, new players are always welcome to come over to Albion and join in the fun.

Albion continues to make its presence felt in military gameplay, as the United Imperial Armed Forces continue to march across NationStates unopposed. With up to ten readily available updaters, and twice that number of reinforcers, the Albion Division now contributes the single largest force to the UIAF from any of its member regions, and is able to undertake considerably large operations by itself. To this end, the UIAF recently participated in a series of operations in collaboration with The Black Riders to conquer and secure a number of large regions. Highlights include the tagging of Slavya under a UIAF flag by a force exceeding ten units, and the interference in the refounding efforts in Angola. Our forces also assisted the Black Riders in numerous smaller tagging and delegate removal operations. Only shortly after this, the UIAF actively assisted The Black Riders again in the seizure and subsequent occupation of New Zealand, a region that should be rather familiar with our presence by now. As always, the commitment and professionalism we seek to inspire in our troops shines through in all our operations.

As already stated, Albion is now able to field a formidable force by itself, and recently the Royal Albion Legion was deployed independently of the UIAF in support og the Delegate of Osiris. Albion maintains a treaty and strong diplomatic relations with Osiris, and it was our pleasure to assist our allies in their delegate transfer. At the moment, Albion forces comprise the single largest group deployed to assist Osiris, outdoing all other regions that moved troops in. Albion always stands by its friends, unflinching and undaunted, against any foe.

In political news, it was once again election time in Albion, where citizens flocked to the Hustings to vote on candidates for the new Lower Council. After a brief period of campaigning, over twenty five citizens participated in the election, which saw nine new councilors admitted. This is the maximum possible size for the council, which expands or reduces its size proportionately to the amount of candidates, and all seats were very hotly contested. The members of the new Lower Council consist of Speaker Aaron Cerebella, and members Dame Elizabeth Cerebella, Sir Feniris, Fleur de Mal, Corinne, Niklaus Mikaelson, Olbin of Highfield, Sebastien Cerebella Minier, and Sir Tyrion Vinage. The council comprises of a promising mix of citizens both new and old, and they have already been hard at work with numerous new debates. Such discussions related to the rights and responsibilities of citizens in Albion, as well as the intricacies of the the relationship between the legislative and executive areas of government. In particular, there was debate over whether the Council could request that members of the Round Table report directly to them on their activities, and over whether there was actually any point in them doing this. The Council is continuing to explore avenues which could bring the various branches of government together, and encourage more bilateral cooperation in the future.

A number of honours have also been recently granted by the King, in celebration of the efforts individuals have made to better the community and region over our first year together. In particular, Sir Ashton Mercer and Sir Seven Deaths were awarded knighthood in the Order of the Quill, for their contributions to regional role play. Seven Deaths in particular received an advanced version of the award, having previously already received the ordinary one. Meanwhile, Sir Tyrion Vinage, Sir Savier Vinage, and Sir J Fred Muggs have been made knights of the Order of the Flagon, for their continuing efforts in the realm of culture. Sir Cassius Cerebella has also received the Order of the Laurel for diplomatic efforts, as well as receiving a peerage as Viscount of Rookridge for ongoing dedication to regional prosperity.

Albion has continued to pursue an active stance in interregional affairs, and for the recent weeks most of our military efforts have been focused on supporting the government of our friends and allies Osiris in these tumultuous times. The official statement on Osiris, as posted in our NS forums embassy, is reproduced below, and still stands.

“Over the course of the past year, many of us in NationStates have watched as Osiris has repeatedly suffered the effects of what can only be described as systemic instability. For some time now, Albion has maintained a strong military presence in the region, in an ongoing effort to uphold the legitimate government against repeated threats to destroy it. The position of the government of Albion has not changed at all in this regard. Today we reaffirm our support for our allies and friends in Osiris through this difficult time, and formally recognise the Delegacy and government of Venico as the legitimate authority in Osiris. It is our belief that the recent turmoil, in particular the removal of certain individuals associated with the Empire, was the direct result of a continuing effort by those individuals to undermine and control Osiris. Such behaviour is unacceptable, and it is our hope that the actions taken by Venico will ensure a stable and secure Osiris for the future, independent from the control of the Empire. We will continue to stand with Osiris, come hell or high water, and Albion forces will remain as they are, upholding and defending this government against any and all threats.”

In more diplomatic matters, we have been strengthening our relationship with Osiris in cultural areas too. Recently the King unveiled a plan which introduced a map for Osiris that would place it in the same role play world as Albion, which was met with interest from the Osiran community. This opens up many possibilities for future interregional cooperation in cultural affairs, and opens up the exciting possibility of a cross regional role play. Already this concept is being tested with a new character based role play, which sees a group of vagabonds and scholars exploring a mysterious ruin from old Osiris. No doubt much adventure and danger awaits these brave pathfinders as they venture onwards.

Shortly before Christmas, the regional forums for Albion surpassed 100,000 posts, and continues to prosper with activity post holiday. This is a testament to the hard work of everyone who contributes to the community, and of course indicative of the warm and friendly group of people we have here. New cultural initiatives have been met with great interest, including an interactive story work undertaken by the Arch Mage, Sir Seven Deaths. This tells the story of a newcomer to the land of Albion, as he struggles to explore the land and find a place for himself in the world. Each week a new chapter is released, and citizens vote on what they would like the main character to do in response to various situations, which dictates what happens next. So far, our hero has restrained himself from resorting to theft to feed himself, he has successfully pursued a romantic encounter with a local woman, and he has decided to embark on a great journey across the north of Albion to the city of Shalefields. We look forward to more heroism, romance, and hilarity as the story continues to plays out.

The role play community is hard at work, not only continuing the legacy of our long running role plays Olympus and Chaos Knights, but also undertaking and developing new ideas for worlds. For this purpose, two new role plays have begun, one related to the Hunger Games, and the other set in a dystopian near future world, similar to the world of the Deus Ex games. Hunger Games is still in the planning phase, but will more than likely entail a large amount of blood loss and death when it finally begins. Deus Ex meanwhile has truly started off with a bang, in the form of an extremely exciting office meeting. Fear not however, as the peace will not last long. In a world increasingly spiralling into chaos, can our heroes unravel the conspiracies and stop the machiavellian schemers behind them before it is too late? Moving to the official regional map role play, a masquerade ball is in the making, and invitations have been dispatched to all the fiefdoms in Albion. Mystery and party combined, this event promises much fun.

Albion has also been hosting its own internal special winter celebration for the past few weeks, entitled the Albion Ice Festival. This festival has been quite successful, seeing a total of almost 3000 posts. It included many exciting events, such as a werewolf game where almost everyone died, a snowball fight which escalated into a full on war, and even a secret santa thingy.

The valiant Sir Feniris in his finest armor

To the surprise of some, it was recently election time in Albion again! With the previous terms of service flying by, it was suddenly time again for citizens to descend upon the voting booths and express themselves through democracy. The excitement of the citizens was matched only by the sullen apathy of the bureaucrats charged with counting their votes. The election for the Lower Council was hotly contested, with citizens both old and new standing for seats, including some returning older citizens. After some campaigning and generic speeches, the race itself was a close result, with Aaron Cerebella, Barrios, de Lorean, Elizabeth Cerebella and Sebastien Cerebella Minier being elected to the Lower Council. Many of these Councillors have served previously, resulting in a small but highly experienced Council for this coming term. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen events in real life, barrios was soon forced to resign his position, citing an inability to meet his responsibilities and not wishing to let the region down. As such, a by-election was held to fill the now empty seat, which was won rather decisively by Celeste Holland, despite her rather ambiguous self nomination. De Lorean was elected speaker by unanimous vote, and selected Elizabeth as her deputy speaker.

Around the same time, it was time for a Chief Knight election, for the citizens to select one of their own to lead the civilian government and manage domestic affairs. Sir Feniris, the incumbent Chief Knight, chose to stand for a second term. Securing the confidence of the populace with an inspiring speech, Feniris decisively won the subsequent election, securing over 80% of the 26 votes vast in the election. Releasing another statement, thanking the region for entrusting him again with the office, he outlined his plans and promised another active and successful term.

Day to day affairs in the Council Chambers of Albion have seen threatened impeachments of members for failing to actively contribute to discussion, various arguments over the meaning of individual words, and an ongoing discussion about the concept of honorary citizenship. In this area the debate centers around whether the Council itself should have the ability to review and recommend such a reward, or whether matters of citizenship and regional honors should remain under the prerogative of the Crown. Recently the previous controversy surrounding the presence of the Crown Prince on the Grand Council has also been solved, with the conclusion being that he is indeed a full member, bringing a long running issue to a close.

What the Royal Albion Legion might look like in battle, if defenders ever attempted to stop us

In external affairs, the Royal Albion Legion has for the last month been engaged abroad as part of its commitment to the United Imperial Armed Forces, occupying the Founderless Regions Alliance member region of Slavia. Since then, UIAF forces have successfully held the region with little to no resistance from defenders. The invasion of Slavia marks the continuation of our track record of military success against the FRA, and the current state of the region should serve as a warning to those who would consider joining such a corrupt alliance in the future. The Founderless Regions Alliance provides no refuge from the UIAF’s military might, and has once again failed to take either the military or the diplomatic steps necessary to guarantee the security of its member-regions. The consequences of this failure have proven most severe for Slavia.

Aside from this impressive operation, Albion’s military has also participated in a number of operations at update, ranging from simple tagging to assisting in the capture of regions to facilitate invasions by our allies. Our ability to assemble both skilled update forces and large numbers of reinforcements continues to improve, and we hope to be able to provide even more opportunity for our soldiers in the future.

On a more diplomatic note, the Round Table and King of Albion have recently ratified the Treaty of Amsterdam. Through this treaty the governments of the regions of the Realm of Albion and the United Kingdom of the Netherlands enter into an alliance in order to cement the relationship between our two regions. We have a certain shared membership base, and our interests in cultural endeavors and external policy align well. It is the hope of Albion that our regions will continue to cooperate well into the future and that we may both grow even stronger with time.

Sir Seven Deaths has an unexpected rendezvous with a crossbow bolt

The highlight of domestic affairs in recent times was the wedding of Princess of Albion, Dame Clarissa MagentaFairy Lucina-Anumia, to Lord Isidor Casimir Somerset. In a romantic ceremony hosted in Fairfax Castle in Albion, by King Charles Cerebella, the pair swore to stand by each other until to the end of their days, and were wished a happy life together by the surrounding crowds. Shortly after the ceremony, the King invited the guests to head to the wedding reception, and saw to it that they were escorted there by armed guards. The gathered guests danced and drank and celebrated, while the court musicians played - YouTube and the King looked on. Soon enough it was time for the bedding ceremony, and the King invited the Cerebella family, and everyone else he particularly liked, to escort Fairy and Isidor from the room. With the happy couple safely away, the doors were locked, and the musicians replaced their violins with crossbows. The King drank his wine and watched on with with apathy as the Vinage family was slaughtered before his eyes, a sacrifice to a stronger united land, and to sacrament the Royal wedding in the blood of enemies.

The Vinage House has long been heralded as a shining star in an otherwise bleak starscape populated with small Houses that have less NS usefulness than the recruitment TGs we send everyday. On the first of February in the year of our Lord Cere Two Thousand and Fourteen, two brothers of the Vinage name, Detritus and Seven Deaths attended the wedding of MagentaFairy and Isidor C. Somerset. At the reception afterwards, as the bride and groom were carried from the hall for the traditional bedding ceremony. It was then that His Majesty the King, Charles Cerebella, revealed his true colors. In a stunning display of bravado and as a sacrifice to the Gods on his Princess’ wedding day, he brutally murdered the two brothers. These brothers fought valiantly, standing side by side in their final moments as crossbow bolts peppered their bodies. The people of Albion thought them dead and rejoiced, but this was not a day of rejoicing. This was a day of rebirth for the brothers and as they rose from the ashes, they cast aside the shackles of the Vinage name. Reborn as Saxton, the two split from both the other branch of the Vinage family and the Grey-Anumias. Even today, the two thrive amongst the people of Albion born anew. They are Saxton and they are here to stay.

Captain Tobias Edward Steve III of Purrcules Dovakitty, the Slayer of Dragons, Lord of the Scratching Forest, Knight of the Red Dot

Regarding less murderous events for a moment, the role play community in Albion continues strong. A few new role plays have started up, namely the “Place in the Sun”, which sees players creating and managing an imperial power at the turn of the century. A scramble for strategic and valuable colonies is already gearing up, and we are likely to see some aggressive expansion rather soon. Daubney Company Contracting offers a different kind of role play, set in the distant future, for those who want to create a space age character and whiz around in a starship. Recently an effort has also been undertaken to revive the old “Founding of Albion” role play, which due to various issues had fallen into disuse. With new families and a reorganized map, the new founding is already seeing interest and should prove even more successful than the last. You might say we’ve refounded the founding, so to speak.

In January, our city of Silverpine with the help of the Round Table hosted a writing competition whose name was as long as the winning story. Each participating member wrote the tale of Captain Tobias…The Adventures of Captain Tobias Edward Steve III of Purrcules Dovakitty, the Slayer of Dragons, Lord of the Scratching Forest, Knight of the Red Dot…a kitty with a sword and shield. Several members of Albion stepped up in writing their versions of the tale including demons and wizards, feline love interests, alcoholism and even a bear samurai. In the end Sir Seven Deaths won with his tale titled “Born In Blood.” All the stories will be archived in the Silverpine part of our forums so everyone can go back and read the adventures of their newest mascot.

The following may or may not be true, which is true is for you to decide

  • Cupcaek Cannons Cause Chaos and Calamity on the Royal Message Boards!

For a period of about a week several million citizens of Albion went into diabetic shock when a bakery war was started. Sir Feniris struck first firing his cupcaek cannon at passersby. His muffin mayhem was soon followed by our king Charles Cerebella who was pelting pirates with parfait and socking sailors with sugary sprinkles. Things were kept mostly civil until Sir Detritus Saxton decided to unleash his ultimate weapon of mass confection, the Orbital Bakery Cannon. After a few vicious attacks frosting the landscape, diabetes and obesity rates in Albion skyrocketed. Wild beasts were too fat to hunt, and many residents of the region had to eat their way out of their pastry prisons. Things have returned to normal fairly quickly afterwards, with most of the sugar and frosting cleaned up, however some of the more remote areas of Albion still look like the box from the old game “Candyland”.

  • Erebos Reaver, The Cit Reaper

In other news, Erebos has been unofficially and quite scandalously dubbed the Cit Reaper. His murderous cackles could be heard across the whole of Albion as citizens who no longer were active were removed from their City-States. They now dwell in the slums of Bowerstone until they return. The Archduchess can only hope that they will see sense and join Shalefields. The Round Table decided to adhere to the newly made purger’s to avoid becoming the Semi-Circular table and went along with this ploy.

  • The 5-minute Wedding

After the minor confusion of whether his love interest was in Seven Deaths or Ms. De Lorean, Detritus Saxton and Corinne got married in a record 5 minute ceremony. It was officiated by their forcibly adopted son Cassius on the Albion Skype Chat. Too bad there weren’t more people to fire the cannons of love and hit innocent bystanders. The blubbering witnesses include Fuzzy the Owl Who didn’t give a Hoot, Feniris the Lone Wolf Howler and Riket: Fox Fully Functioning. With a beautiful and heartwarming “Meh, sure.” and “I guess so”, the couple mauled it out.
Albion wished the newlyweds a wonderful honeymoon. Corinne, you can now legally access your husband’s bank account. Det, get ready.

  • Brightwall’s Badger branded Benjamin.

His name isn’t really Benjamin, but the alliteration was of vital importance. In the daring act of kicking Silverpine in the buttocks (see, important alliteration), Brightwall stole the most befitting animal to represent the City-State. Many citizens shook their head, why didn’t Silverpine claim the glorious Badger as their animal before Brightwall? Does not everyone want to share the animal as the best Harry Potter house? In the words of Brightwall; “Badger, badger, badger, badger. Mushroom, mushroom.”
