Alternate Wachovia Coalition

All hell broke loose in Kabuverdianu. The tension had been rising for some time between the economically powerful Verlotions and the naturalistic Juoi. When Juoi declared independance the Verlotions were outraged. How long could the republic last if cities felt free to leave the union at will?

What followed was tragedy of the worst kind. The Juoi had poorer weapons and economic backing but their ancestral knowledge of the jungles allowed them to slip away from the major cities. Certianly the Verlotions controlled these but an expedition a mere 5 miles into the jungle was deadly for many troops.

Peace finally came when both sides were too exhausted to fight any more. During this time of cricis a leader might have arisent to lead a joint council and restore a healthy country but many of the wisest leaders were spent from the war and a coalition council was formed.

It was hardly perfect. The regions, including the Truczon region that was annexed in following years through political manuvering, were all represented on the council but in-fighting and politics weakened the system. Great power rested in the two council members assigned to manage foreign relations and the military.

The resulting military was still rather weak in comparison to those of many other nations in the region. Even after military negotiations there was only one squadron of orbital Viper fighters and one squadron of stealth atmospheric defender planes.

The ground forces and scant coastal defense forces were largely aging military units, hold-overs from the Kabuverdianu civil war and decomissioned units from other nations.

The truest strenght of the coalition was its partisian strength. In fact third-world nations across the regions had ongoing military training agreements with the coalition for covert-op and guerilla warfare training. Perhaps this played some small role in detering Packilvania though intelligence analysts cite the regional government’s strong desire for peace as the primary reason.
