Anniversary Celebrations

From the 8th to 12th of August The Cerdani Democratic Republic will commemorate it’s 95th anniversary of the founding of the nation and creation of the border wall separating it from West Cerdani.

All across the capital of Berlitow massive preparations were being made for the coming week of celebrations. Many banners were being hung from apartment buildings all across the city and at The Palace of the Republic the auditorium was being decorated and adjusted. Nearby the military were doing their final parade practices as citizens helped set up stands and seating for the celebrations down the main avenue of the city.

Meanwhile inside his office, Hristov Zhivkov was writing up a letter of invitation for foreign dignitaries when Erich Honecker walked into his office.

“Ah hello there sir, anything I can help you with?” Hristov said as he looked up from his computer to Erich

“Yes there is, I want you to make sure that the invitation is sent out as soon as possible, everything is ready” Erich replied

“It’s almost done, It’ll be out to them in an hour sir” Hristov said as he looked back down at his computer screen

“Good, good.” Erich said as he walked out of the office

Hristov then continued writing the letter and after proofreading it a few times he was satisfied and hit the send button.

Head of Foreign Affiars
Cerdani Democratic Republic

Greetings,

As mentioned when your General Secretary visited Asendavia, Asendavia would be glad to attend your 95th anniversary. We will send two diplomats to represent Asendavia.

From:
Viktor Zharkov
Minister of Foreign Diplomacy
Asendavia
[hr]
The two Asendavian diplomats, Karsten Kjos and Jostein Onsager, boarded a plane to East Cerdani, and after a layover in Hausberg and quite a few hours later, they landed in the Cerdani Democratic Republic. After entering a convoy, they quickly arrived at the Palace of the Republic.

To:
Hristov Zhivkov
Head of Foreign Affiars
Cerdani Democratic Republic

As a observer state it would be our honor to celebrate the 95th anniversary of your country. We will be sending members from Crania, Kasmiyland, Subrovania to represent all of the Gordic Nations.

Sincerely
Secretary General
Jeff Meckers

[hr]

King Hareld IV of Subrovania boarded the Royal 787 he was to be the first to land. Following him would be Marshal of the Realm Tone Sandström of Kasmiyland boarded his DC-10. Lastly President Daniel Dudeter boarded his 747.

Outside the front doors of the Palace of the Republic Hristov Zhivkov personally greeted all of the arriving diplomats before directing them inside to a meeting room on the second floor.

Inside the room there was a large marble dining table in the centre with cutlery laid out neatly in front of each dining chair. The walls of the room were adorned with a few paintings and at the centre was a golden emblem of East Cerdani.

Erich Honecker greeted the diplomats as they arrived into the hall and after some brief conversations everyone was sitting down at the table waiting for dinner to arrive.
After a few minutes Erich then stood up to address the table.

“Good evening, foreign guests. I want to warmly welcome you all to The Cerdani Democratic Republic. I hope that over these next few days you can learn about our country and tat we can learn about each other.” Erich then paused for a few seconds before continuing.
“I hope that all of our countries can work together in the future. Together we can all work for progress, for peace and for a happy life. Thank you very much for attending and I hope you enjoy!”

After the brief speech dinner was served and not long after that dessert. After the desserts were taken away Erich gave one final address to the table before everyone retired to their rooms.
“Tomorrow will be a big day for us all, and I am confident you will enjoy what our country has to offer!”
After finishing his address there was a small round of applause before the diplomats and ministers left for their quarters.

OOC: LONG Joint post with Xagrug and King Rico

The Parade in the morning goes off spectacularly with the military marching through the main avenue of Berlitow and a low flyover of numerous military jets and hundreds of tanks and trucks driving in unison.

After the parade the diplomatic tour returned to the Palace of the Republic for a brief tour before returning to the meeting room.

[hr]

“Impressive display of power sir,” says GXE Foreign Minister John Smith.

“Thank you, we’ve done a lot to reach this point” Erich Honecker replied

“So, how is the great nation of East Cerdani doing?,” John Smith asked.

"It is a Pleasure to meet you " Queen Mariyan IV says while noticing john smith out the corner of her eye.

“We are doing very well, we’ve come a long way in 95 years” Erich replied to John Smith before looking over to Queen Maryian “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, I trust your enjoying the trip so far?”

“I must say while flying in I did indeed get to see the country from a different view it is beautiful” she says, that was quite the parade me and the King of Kasmiyland were very pleased .

“While on my flight to East Cerdani, on my private plane, I saw the country’s environment and its majestic,” John Smith said to Erich Honecker.

“Ah yes we’ve worked very hard to keep our country as clean as possible”

“So, are your citizens doing in this fine example of a nation?,” asked John Smith.

“I’d say we are doing very well for ourselves. Of course I can only really answer for myself but you’ll get the chance to talk to others later in our trip” Erich answered

“So, where are we going next?,” John Smith asked.

“We go to the border with West Cerdani, it’s a relatively quick train ride over there”

“Why are there two Cerdanis in the first place anyway?” asked John Smith.

“It’s a long story… but basically we had a socialist revolution in the country and we only succeeded in ceding these parts of the former Cerdani.” Erich replied “We’ve always tried to be friendly towards them but they are very hostile it seems”

The Kings & Queens of the GC holds short talks with other guest when King Leonard V firmly shakes Erich hands " Good Day, lovely country I really do like that you are a environmental friendly country"

Erich then turned and accepted King Leonard’s handshake “Pleasure to meet you, I’m glad you appreciate our environment”

“Hmm…,” John Smith thinks to himself. “Maybe you could try to create a cultural exchange program between the two Cerdanis to help improve relations, it could work pretty well,” John Smith suggested to Erich.

“We’ve tried, they won’t listen.” Erich then paused for a second before continuing “They refuse to even acknowledge us most of the time”

“Strange, are you both at least allowing tourists from both Cerdanis visit your respective nations?”

“No, they won’t allow anybody from our country inside theirs. Again we’ve tried to talk but they don’t listen”

“Odd, you would expect them to at least maintain embassies between your countries,” John Smith said.

" Well since your a observer state and there a member state we could possibly improve relations" the king says

“They may listen to other nations, but we have no diplomatic relations with each other whatsoever.” Erich replied

“I’m aware it was discussed at a GC Security Meeting, I would like to see if we can improve bilateral relations that would increase good relations. As far as I can see the claims made by the west are inaccurate” he replies

“Would West and East Cerdani be interested in a free trade agreement?,” John Smith asked.

“I can’t really speak on behalf of my nation, but I’ll have to talk with our planners and advisers about the implications of free trade.” Erich said before pausing again “The West would agree to anything, so long as it serves the interest of the bourgeois in their country.”

“Well, going for a strictly planned economy can go pretty wrong while a strictly capitalist economy can go horribly wrong for the people if not regulated so limited exposure to capitalism can be useful for growing the nation’s economy and reduce unemployment,” John Smith states.

“Our economy has worked successfully for well over 80 years, we have no unemployment and can provide to our citizens. Capitalism has had it’s last day in our country” Erich Replied

“We should probably discuss economic models at the next global economic convention instead of now,” says John Smith.

"Shall we see the DMZ now Mr.Erich? " the king replies

“I have to go make a speech in the Auditorium soon, we leave for the border in the morning tomorrow. It’s all on the itinerary provided.” Erich gestured to an itinerary on the table nearby. “You are all welcome to come listen to my speech if you wish”

The King grabs the paper and proceeds to the auditorium with rest of the GC members

“I’d be glad to attend your speech Mr. Honecker,” says John Smith and grabs a paper and proceeds to the auditorium.

[hr]

Erich Honecker walked to the podium in the middle of the Auditorium, thousands had gathered to fill the seats and thousands more were watching the televised broadcast or the internet livestream.

“Welcome, fellow citizens, foreign guests.”

“Ninety-five years have passed since 8 August 1922, the day when the Cerdani Democratic Republic was founded and a completely new chapter was opened in the history of our people. For the first time ever workers’ and farmers’ power was established on Cerdan soil, thus laying the groundwork for social relations to be shaped in such a way that people would be able to lead a worthy life. The CDR has over the past nine and a half decades developed successfully as a state of peace and socialism, as an effective factor of stability and security.”

“Rising from a heap of rubble and setting out for the future, the country has followed a path rich in work and struggles. The achievements have been for the people’s benefit and have made it possible to meet our goals time and time again!”

The audience erupted into applause for a few moments before quietening down

“Generations of upstanding Cerdans had dreamt of a new and peaceful Cerdani, free from exploitation and oppression and on friendly terms with all nations. This is what they fought and risked their lives for. In the CDR their legacy has become a reality, embodying what the country’s best sons and daughters had been striving for. Our state is irrevocably anchored in the world of socialism, the world of true freedom, democracy and human dignity.”

“In 95 years, the working class of the CDR, led by their vanguard, The Communist Party of Cerdani, and in alliance with the farmers, intellectuals and all other working people, has accomplished a construction feat of historic proportions. This country is nowadays one of the most advanced industrial nations in the world, with a modern education system, striving science and culture. And it’s defence is always ensured at the required level.”

“Disarmament, detente and peaceful coexistence between states with differing social systems have been and remain priority aims of our country over the years. And it will be one of our vital concerns in the years to come, together with the other states of the global peace community.”

The crowd once again erupted into applause for a short while before Erich signalled for them to stop

“Averting the threat of a nuclear inferno and making peace secure and durable is considered by us as the overriding priority of the present time. We want present and future generations to live a happy life and do their daily work without the fear of the disaster a world war would bring along.”

“Now that Aurora is entering a new, perhaps the most dangerous, period of war times, we are all the more determined to do everything to maintain peace and promote well-being between the nations of the world. The duty to do everything for the cause of peace is today greater than ever.”

“And yet there are some who advocate for a first-strike policy and they spread theories of a nuclear war which they claim can be limited, conducted and won, even though in actual fact it would destroy everything and there would be neither winners nor losers. They even go so far as to supporting nuclear weapons in space! The adventurous nature of all these plans is only exceeded by their inhumanity.”

“This planet must not be turned into a nuclear fireball!”

Erich then paused for a second, rearranging his papers.

“The situation in the world today is complex and dangerous, though not unalterable. Everything depends on the united and resolute actions of those who sincerely want peace. People in this country are well aware of the fact that the best way to serve the safeguarding of peace is to further strengthen the CDR and it’s peaceful allies in every possible way, thus contributing to the consolidation of socialism’s internationalist positions.”

“This attitude has typified the run-up period towards the our 95th anniversary and will be the guiding motive of future efforts”

“The peoples of the world can always count on the Cerdan socialist workers and farmers state in the struggle for securing peace, for the strengthening of socialism, for progress and a happy life.”

The crowd then burst into wild applause as Erich Honecker walked off the podium, waving at the crowd before exiting.

OOC: Long long joint post with Asendavia, King Rico and Xagrug

A short and sleek train whizzes though the countryside at high speed with the foreign diplomats aboard heading for the West Cerdani border, known as the Anti-Fascist Protective Wall.

“Nice speech you gave there at the auditorium, though a bit naive on the nuclear weapons and slightly disappointed on your neutral stance on the war,” says GXE Foreign Minister John Smith.

“I’d much rather we all live in peace, war is a terrible thing” replied Erich Honecker

“Unfortunately war is a part of human nature. The reason why the GXE has nuclear weapons in the first place is to act as a deterrent against war. Clearly that has failed but somehow my nation or its neighbors haven’t used their stockpiles yet for some odd reason.”

Overhearing the conversation, Jostein Onsager, one of the Asendavian envoys, decided to join in. “I’ll give you the reason, Mutually Assured Destruction. You should know this. Should one nation use its nukes, more nations will start using them until the world can no longer support life.”

“Well, that’s why my nation and government has tons of fallout shelters and contingency plans for that situation.” says John Smith

“Gentleman let’s talk peace I don’t believe this is the time to flex nuclear capabilities” says the King.

“Should nukes somehow come into use, I’m sure that Vekaiyu, Pax-Draconica, South Hills, and the Veridian Union would notice. If your nation launched the first nuke, you would be in some deep shit.”

“Random fact; I had a dream where Asendavia launched a nuclear strike against the GXE and everything hit the fan back in July.”

“Unless the Kaiser was a complete buffoon, which he’s not, I see no possibility for that to happen, unless the GXE was the first one to launch nukes, of course. Anyway, your dream was so interesting to hear about.”

“Gentlemen I understand this may be a hot topic but this debate will solve nothing” Erich interjected in.

There was an awkward silence for a few seconds before John Smith spoke

“Well then, has West Cerdani made any skirmishes as of late with East Cerdani?,” asks John Smith.

“Thankfully not, we are in a cold peace with them at the present time” Erich answers

“Well that’s good to hear, it would be terrible if war broke out,” Jostein’s companion, Karsten Kjos, replied.

“I assume your massive military is what’s deterring the West Cerdanis from invading?,” asks John Smith.

“Yes our military is probably the biggest deterrent… But they know that even if they overtook us the people would rise up” Erich replied back

The King’s assistant takes notes and pictures, " Do you think the GC may also play a big role In the future between you and West Cerdani in terms of making a full blown peace " he says

As the assistant says this the train then enters into a tunnel and the lights turn on inside the car

“I think the GC could assist us, we want to maintain peaceful relations with them… maybe even unify together one day.” Erich answered

“It would be wonderful if the two Cerdani’s could once again be united. Although, that doesn’t seem likely, anytime soon, at least,” Karsten commented.

“What would it take for West Cerdani to accept at least an embassy do you think,” asks John Smith to everyone.

" That would be ultimate goal, but I believe just getting talks going would be great. Both of which will be able to do at the GC assembly in Early October" the king says

“Well, West Cerdani is interested in wealth so maybe increasing East Cerdani’s economic output and industrial capability would tell them the West Cerdanis East Cerdani is also a respectable nation and maybe they’ll open up trade talks,” says John Smith.

“I doubt that just increasing the economic output and industrial capacity would want them to open up trade talks. It would take the GC to have the two Cerdani’s talk,” Jostein said.

“As it stands our economy right now is working, we may experiment in the future but I believe the GC will pave the way to peace and socialism in Cerdani” Erich said

“Money has its persuasive powers,” says John Smith.

“That is true I believe we made key steps when both Cerdanis joined the organization, we work hard to get the East Cerdani a full member. The West Cerdani are rather fine with this which means that to a degree peace is working now we have to get them talking” he says to the men

The train then exits the tunnel and opens up into rolling farmlands with many crops growing in the fields

Karsten looked at the scenery as the train exited the tunnel. “It’s quite beautiful out here.”

“Ah yes we’re going through the farmlands now, It shouldn’t be too long before we arrive at the border” Erich said as he checked his watch

“I see the East Cerdani countryside is as beautiful as well,” compliments John Smith.

The rest of the train ride remained relatively quiet.

[hr]

The train eventually arrived at the small station on the border and group disembarked before hopping into a convoy of cars and driving to the border. The group then arrives at a small section of the wall that has a watchtower, office and a musuem. The wall is around 6m tall and has barbed wire along the first inner wall and a smoothed pipe running along the outer second wall. After everyone arrives the group then enters the watchtower and is overlooking the border.

“Welcome to the border wall gentlemen.” Erich said to the group "If you look over the other side you may see some West Cerdan soldiers"Sent on:10:18 am From a watch tower on the other side of the border a group of West Cerdan soldiers were watching the group inside the watchtower.

“Well I be damned” the king replies as he sees the massive dmz borders " Man we are going to have a really interesting Assembly this year" he chuckles

“Yeah, I bet you guys are,” Karsten commented.

“You should’ve seen the old Xagrurg-Ethalrian Fort Line back in the day,” jokingly said by John Smith.

“So, how secure is the DMZ?” asks John Smith

“The wall is very secure, we have guard towers spread out across the border and daily patrols along the wall.” Erich answered

" I believe setting up a Meeting room in center of DMZ that would be on both sides of the border would help with talks between you guys" The assistant says

“Try getting West Cerdani to agree to that, they won’t allow so much as a fly to cross the border” Erich commented

“A meeting room would help. Have ever heard of the foreign policy called détente?”

“We’ve tried detente, they refuse to listen however.” Erich replied “They ignore all requests from us and block all communication attempts”

" As a member they may not have much of a option" The assistant replies

“With that attitude, I’m surprised they can do business deals with other nations,” comments John Smith.

“I agree. This behavior is quite undiplomatic, to say the least,” Jostein responded.

" There are things discussed previously with the West" he replies

“Maybe we all should visit West Cerdani next,” says John Smith.

Karsten laughed. “How about you try that by yourself?”

“They only care about themselves It seems, they will even sever relations if a nation recognizes us”

Queen Mariyan V looked at the assistant with a stare " I believe what was meant to be said is that we will have some diplomatic issues to discuss with both sides to find a common ground "

A soldier from the National People’s Army then enters the into the watchtower signalling that it is time for the group to move down to the museum.

Erich then leads the group down towards the museum, “This is the museum, it will answer quite a few questions you may have about the wall, or as we like to call it, the anti fascist protective wall.”

John Smith, coughs, asking Erich, “Why is it named the anti-fascist protective wall?”

“It is named that because we have walled off West Cerdani’s fascist espionage centres, their revanchist radio stations, their fascist soldiers’ associations, their youth poisoners, and their currency racketeers.” Erich replies

“Clearly, West Cerdani’s version of fascism is very different from the GXE’s version. Also, is East Cerdani involved in any international affairs as of late aside from this?”

“We don’t officially consider them fascist anymore but the sentiment is still there” Erich answered. “And also we’ve been trying to expand our international relations with many nations as of late.”

“We still believe in peaceful co-existence of states of differing ideological, social and economic models however, but they refuse to listen.” Erich added on

“Probably should rename your wall to something less offensive to fascist nations,” comments John Smith.

“No, I suggest keeping it. Just because a few people are offended doesn’t mean that you should change its name,” Jostein said.

“It displays an obvious bias against a certain ideology and can potentially hurt foreign relations,” John Smith says.

“So? One should not be offended by the name of a piece of architecture. It is simply a wall, and the name is of historical significance.”

“I have to agree with Mr Jostein here” Erich says

“A name like the West-East Cerdani Wall would work you know,” says John Smith.

“We are keeping the name…” Erich then paused before smiling “How about we all look around the museum, I’m sure you will all learn something about the anti fascist protective wall”

The group then toured around the museum for a while before being called outside and hopping back in their cars and departing for the collective farm nearby.

[hr]

After a brief drive through the countryside they arrived at the farm and the diplomats were greeted by the farm managers

“Good afternoon sir,” greets John Smith.

“Howdy, and welcome to our farm.” The farmer said before taking off his gloves and offering his hand our for a handshake

John Smith accepted his handshake “So, how’s business on the farm?,” John Smith asks the farm manager.

While this was happening Erich Honecker stood off to the side of the group and was talking with a government official

“Well that depends on what ya’ mean by business” the farmer answers

“When I mean ‘business’, I mean how are the crops doing,” clarifies John Smith.

“Ah I getcha, yeah they are doing good this year, we’re gonna fulfill our quota at least.” The farmer replied

“I have a question, if you’re unable to reach your quota due to poor farming conditions, what will happen to you and everyone else on the farm?”

“Well I’ve never had it happen to me but basically you’ll have to explain why you failed to reach the quotas to the planners, nothin’ happens to us or the farm though. If anything the planners’ will allocate us some more fertiliser to help”

“Well, at least you won’t disappear or end up in a labor camp unlike in some countries which is good,” says John Smith.

“That sounds awful, I’m glad we got a government that cares.” the Farmers says back

“Yeah you all are welcome to come for a look around, if nobody else has any questions?”

The group remained silent and so the farmer began a tour of the farm.

The diplomats got to observe how they use modern harvesting techniques and they described how they elected a farm manager and how they liaise with the government planners to plan their economy.

After the tour was over the group drove off and spent the night at a small hotel that had been set aside for the diplomats.
