Hello, world!

On the 18th of April of this very year, the region of Arda En’ Estel - Realm of Hope - was born. Three months later, it has brought forth near thirty thousand posts, and houses a friendly and bustling community focused on inclusiveness and, well, having a bloody good time all round. Its bustling Old Market houses dozens of extremely varied shops and businesses, while several families have made their home in Maple Lane. No less than five roleplays are going on, including the large scale Legacy RP which is the region’s centrepiece, set in a world of steampunk and magic. There may be one or two small details still missing some say a constitution or a government for example may be a nice addition to the region but on the whole, Arda is thriving! And for those of you who are sceptical, do not fear… a Constitution is almost here, contributed to by all of Arda, and a Government will soon follow. In the meantime, we thought we would already make ourselves known to the world… so, hello!

Spreading our wings

As mentioned, we would like to get to know all of you wonderful regions a little better. For that reason, our current priority is finding other regions such as yourself who are willing to establish embassies with us, and perhaps in the future we can become more than friends, wink wink. NationStates is such an interesting and diverse place, where people from all over the world can meet and cooperate, and that is exactly what we want to do. For now we are mainly focusing on regions that our citizens have ties with, so we can ensure you will have an active ambassador from Arda on your forum to keep you up to date with the latest developments!

Legacy

Steampunk meets magic in our main role play, taking place two hundred years after the fall of the Old Ones, who used to rule over the entire region. Nations of all shapes and sizes interact with one another, be it peacefully or… not so peacefully. The Library is already overflowing with people’s factbooks, and there are also several RPs between nations going on. New alliances are forged while old ones are strengthened. Pirates meet with Stormborn, Empires meet with Undead. Diplomacy is booming currently, but not all is well… A first conflict has already taken place, giant intelligent bats attacking a dwarven mine. This is only the start of what will become our region’s Legacy, and we look towards the future with excitement about what is still to come!

Rumour has it…

Our gossip detectives have been around, and gathered some of Arda’s juiciest secrets for your entertainment. This month we focus on the mysterious establishment that is Astoria Laboratories. It has been signalled that not entirely legal nor ethical practices are taking place within this institution’s gates. Reports of a giant hedgehog creature being held captive and experimented upon have come in, and at least two witnesses claim to have seen giant carnivorous plants flame-thrown to death by two eccentrics and a red panda. The laboratory’s Officer of Dubious Ethicality, Dr. Nightshade, claims that these rumours are false, and redirects any complaints through to Miss Riket of the Human Resources Department. So far everybody returning from HR has seemed extremely convinced that Astoria Laboratories is indeed working within the restraints of the law. Why exactly most of these people seemed to need treatment by a psychiatrist after their return from HR is as of yet unknown.

Arda Episode 2 - Attack of the Updates

Constitution

After several months of discussions, in which all citizens were welcome to partake, a final draft was reached for the Constitution. There was still some criticism, such as on the lack of civil rights for dwarfs and satyrs, the absence of any mention of glitter, and no conclusive clauses on the controversial subject of neutering. However, as spokesperson Akillian Talleyrand said, Come on guys, this is like the one single thing in this region that has to be serious, lets not- LIL STOP EATING THE CONSTITUTION! And thus the Constitution was put to vote, receiving an almost unanimous aye, which means after three months and thirty thousand forum posts, we finally have a Constitution! Hurrah!

Elections and A New Government

The very first elections have taken place in Arda! After vigorous campaigning defending themselves from lies and slander, accusations of bribery, and swift denial of intentions to eat the new legislation, the candidates engaged in a grueling debate. When interviewed, most attendees said it seemed like just a lot of pointless yelling, with some people just fighting with themselves off in a corner. We’ve compiled some infamous quotes during the intense campaigning and debate period to share with you:

The Story of the Hreater Good

Religion has come to Arda! The Hreater Good has taken hold and almost daily sacrifices of death by cuddles are being made in its name and to its prophet, The Great JAzzy. The Hreater Good is a rather unique religion in the NS sphere, as instead of a fixed canon, we are letting the people themselves play out the stories of the Gods. An Arch Bishop of Cruor has also attempted to put down roots in Arda, but it seems he has been quickly labelled a heretic. When asked his opinion his only reply was: “Ummm”. With such eloquent words Arda may just be converted yet, but for now they are still calling for death to the ‘heretics’.

Evanei Riket-Telchuri enters the office and sits down in the seat. This office was now hers and she was now the new Estelian ambassador for The East Pacific. She was not new at this job, she was quite experienced. However, this is an exciting, new adventure in a exciting, new region. She will need to enter the town at some point and visit the people of this region.

She sat back and examined the office. Yes. It was definitely in need of a woman’s touch. She will also have to work on that later.

Arda Episode 3 - The Senate Awakens

The Etele…Estali…Estelian Senate!

The Senate of Arda got off to a flying start in its first month of existence. Legislation could be seen flying around in all directions quite literally, as the Senators flung scrolls and papers in each others faces during heated debates. No less than two Constitutional Amendments passed, the first giving more power to the Popular Assembly, and the second clearing up some ambiguities in the constitutions wording and other minor flaws spotted by the very diligent Senator La Luna. An Elections Act was passed as well, although only on the second time around, as the previously mentioned minor flaws in the Constitution led to it not gaining majority support the first time round long story. Furthermore, a WA Delegate Act was passed, as well as the controversial The, the way the wind blows act, making headwind punishable by imprisonment in a glass bottle and receiving a harsh letter from every member of the senate, detailing how disappointed they are in the wind. Since then, productivity in Arda has increased due to cyclists getting to work earlier and being in a better mood when arriving at the office. Finally, the Senate rounded off their first month with the Official Name Act, establishing once and for all that we are called Arda en Estel, not Arda En Estel, Arda en Estel or That Odd Place With All The Weird People. And it doesnt look like our industrious Senate will be slowing down anytime soon!

But wait, there’s more! Because our Senate is just so awesome, we can’t seem to stop writing articles about them! The first major elections took place in September and three Senators were appointed. Evanei Riket-Telchuri joins the Senate for the first time, while Akillian Talleyrand and Gabriellis Telchuri come back to the Senate for a second term. Another congratulations goes to Akillian for being nominated as Speaker for a second term!

LEAF’s of Arda en’ Estel

Arda is proud to introduce to the world it’s new military force, The Legion of Estelian Armed Forces, or “The LEAF’s!” Several operations have already been undertaken with citizens of Arda joining to help out Lone Wolves United and Osiris. The military is still in it’s infancy, but it is off to a promising start! Talks are underway to decide on an official flag and we should have even more good news for you coming next update!

The Yacht Saga Continues…

It was a beautiful summers day when Evanei decided to invite her family and friends onto her yacht. Everyone climbed aboard, bringing along plenty of booze, and then they set off into the unknown. But little did Evanei know that her mother already had other plans for the boat until the Angel of Death, an albino Megalodon, turned up. Evaneis mother, Captain Fox, had chartered the yacht for a Megalodon-hunt. Unfortunately, Captain Fox got rather distracted by her wife, and ran the yacht straight into an iceberg. While Fox and Jazzy prepared to take on Angel, Aynia, Sacul and Cain attempted to save the sinking ship. At first they had little success, and in the end it was only with the help of Stuart the elemental duct tape octopus (yes those exist) that saved the boat from sinking. Close to a thousand posts later, little progress has been made on hunting down Angel, but the crew havent given up yet!

Unions come to Arda?

Several political parties have appeared on the scene over the last month: Arda’s Union of Conscientiously Work-Shy Elements, The Egalitarian Pacifist Group and The After Party. Could they be forming as protest to the working conditions in Astoria Laboratories? Could it have anything to do with the mysterious health inspector that has been showing up at all of Arda’s shops? Could it really be that they just want to make even more clubs? We aren’t exactly sure, but tensions are already running high between AUoCWSE and TAP! It seems we could have a friendly, or not so friendly, rivalry on our hands soon!

Arda Episode IV: The Pumpkin Menace

Arda becomes Pumpkin Town of MURDER

Arda’s very first festival took place the second half of October! From Ghastly Games to a Monster Ball, spoopy was the theme around Arda those two weeks. Gathering almost 1500 posts, the festival was considered a huge success! Read below for some Halloween highlights:

A House of Haunting

A group of friends on a weekend away together decide to explore an old mansion surrounded by legends about ghosts and spirits. But when they enter the house, they find themselves locked in, with no means of escape. And it soon becomes clear that there is more going on than meets the eye, as people start dying in suspicious circumstances That was how one of the Halloween Festivals most popular events started: The Haunted House game based on the popular party game Mafia/Werewolf. Several people got possessed by the evil spirit of the house, and claimed a nightly sacrifice, leaving their victims in the most horrific conditions, having feasted from heir flesh as the others slept fitfully. The unpossessed had a stroke of luck the first day, with psychic Aynia discovering the evil within Jazzy, Consumer of Souls. And so Jazzy was shot, taking with her another possessed, Vixy, who had fallen madly in love with her. But two possessed remained, and the following nights were marked by death while the days were marked with indecisiveness. The exorcist Akillian, the priestess Lil, the watchwoman Nightshade they all died one by one. Eventually, Aynia identified another possessed her own beloved fiancée, Lucinda but she was too late and ended up being voted out, her life terminated by a shot to the chest. Her death also brought with it a victory for the possessed, whom outnumbered the unpossessed, driving them to insanity, a state in which they all ended up taking their own life. Although the possessed won, they too ultimately met their demise by overeating on the remains of their victims. Oh well, some stories just have no happy ending for anybody.

The Murder Ball

“You exit the ghostly coach driven by no one but the skeletal horses and follow the walkway up to the doors, where atop a grand stair case heading towards a rather elegant, if not dark, ballroom, you are announced by a disembodied voice. Welcome to the Murder Ball.”

Drinks and drama abound at the one and only Murder Ball! Citizens danced through the night, sharing gossip and good times in their best Halloween costumes. Did you see what Fox was wearing? How scandalous! The ball was coined a marvelous success, culminating the the engagement announcement of Willow Nightshade-Riket and Dominic Von Bismark. Congratulations!

The Macabre Marketplace

A highlight of the festival was taking a stroll through the macabre marketplace. Whether you fancied a new costume, some super spoooookyy music, or one of Fuzzy’s world famous caeks, you could find it in the marketplace. You could even go for a drink in the Pony Tavern, but don’t question the name! If you don’t get taken out by evil deer head you may may just find a knife in your gut!

The End of the Yacht?

I am sure you have all been sitting on the edge of your seats throughout the past month, wondering if the Arda crew finally managed to hunt down Angel the Megalodon? It will probably come as a great surprise that, eventually, they succeeded in doing just that! At first a glittomic bomb was considered, but a lack of volunteers to deliver the weapon of mass destruction led to that plan being ditched. Thats when Vixy mentioned that she had, naturally, injected explosive nanobots into Angels bloodstream, just like she did to all of her pets (news that was received with horror by Jazzy). After a lot of exasperated chiding, followed by angry demanding, and eventually desperate pleading, Vixy eventually caved and activated the nanobots spraying the boat with Megalodon remains. And so comes an end to the tale of the yacht. But do not fear, the Estelians are already off on another boat trip in Bali, and who knows what might happen there perhaps you will find out in next months update!

Major Elections, a Not So Major Event

Major elections happened this month with little fanfare. Sacul Astoria was elected Consul of Culture, Akillian Talleyrand took over as Consul of Interior, and Aynia was reelected as Foreign Consul. The Senate was in a hot race, with everyone calmly sitting near the middle of their seats, not anxiously awaiting the results. In the end seats were won again by both Sacul Astoria and Lil’ la Luna!

Arda Episode V: Attack of the Christmas Festival

The Inaugural Estelian Awards Ceremony

The first ever awards were given out in Arda this month by the Consul of Culture. There were commendations handed out for politics, spam, culture, and two very special awards designed specifically for two citizens who have made a large impact on Arda in a very short time.

Lil la Luna was awarded three, count 'em, three! insignia for her impressive spamming on the forum, with Fox earning two and Jazzy one spam insignia awards.

Both Aynia’s and Fox’s estates earned them cultural insignia’s for over one thousand posts a piece, and Ye Old Tavern was recognized as the cultural hot spot that it is (even though the rabid deer head may or may not have scared a few patrons away.)

The one and only political award went to Lil la Luna in appreciation for writing or co writing five different laws during her time in the Senate. Keep up the good work!

Finally, two very special awards were created for both Jazzy and Phantasus, who both have had a large and lasting impact on the region as a whole. The Ray of Sunshine insignia was given to Jazzy for being quite possibly the happiest red panda in all of Nationstates, and most definitely the happiest citizen in Arda en’ Estel. Jazzy’s good cheer can’t help but put smiles on everyone’s faces who sees him. Or her. Or him.

Phantasus was granted the insignia of Overmaster, and enjoys a special custom masking on our discord channel for his upkeep of the Overmind bot. His love and diligence keeps the citizens of Arda from mass hysteria whenever Overmind fails to start the requested heist. It’s rumored there’s even a new cult forming around the great Overmaster, praise his name.

ARDA IN MASS PANIC AND RIOTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AS EVERYTHING GOES OFFLINE!

For the first time in the history of Arda en’ Estel, the forums were offline for two whole days! Citizens huddled together in Discord, reminiscing on ‘the good old days’ and planning the first things they would do as soon as the forums came back online. Just when all hope was dwindling and citizens began planning a way to post via courier pigeon, the forums were back online. There was some brief fear that some posts had been lost, but at last order has been restored and things are finally back to normal, the elections proceeding with only a short delay. Our thoughts go out to all of the other hapless regions out there that were struck by this terrible disaster, and we hope not too many lives were lost to insanity during those days of darkness!

Arda en’ Estel Ratifies the CAIN Treaty

The first official treaty in Arda en’ Estel’s history was ratified last month by the Senate. Foreign Consul Aynia Sabathiel attended the conference on behalf of Arda. When interviewed she had this to say: “Arda stands for freedom to do as you please, except take away the freedom of others. We will stand strong with the coalition and together we can wipe out the Nazi presence all across Nationstates. I mean, I’m sure they’ll love the taste of freedom. Or else.”

The Senate debated little over signing the treaty, but first had to push through the Treaty Act, so they would have a procedure in place for how to deal with treaties. Once the red tape was cut through the treaty prevailed, and Arda en’ Estel’s name was added to the official signatory list.

Anti-Imp Candidates Win Big in Senate Elections

Arda en’ Estel recently held its major Senate election, where three of the five Senate seats were open to election.

Four candidates offered themselves up. Three sitting Senators ran for re-election - Akillian Talleyrand, Jazzy, Gabrielis Telchuri as well as one new challenger - Vaclav Vinograd.

When the dust settled, Jazzy was returned to the Senate, as well as Akillian Talleyrand. Vaclav Vinograd was elected as a new Senator. Together, Talleyrand and Vinograd represent the most prominent faces of the anti-imp faction of the dominant party of Arda, the After Party.

During the election campaign, Talleyrand blamed the recent Zetaboards crash on the imp community and added if re-elected, “I will finally be proposing an Imp Registration and Control Act and we’ll make sure this dangerous section of the population is finally stopped.”

Vinograd, speaking to supporters after his victory, was heard saying, were going to make Arda tall again, that I can tell you, that I can tell you.

Any anti-imp efforts from Vinograd and Talleyrand will assuredly meet with opposition from Senators like the After Partys pro-imp faction leader, Sacul Astoria, himself a prominent imp.

Its unclear what the future will hold for Arda, or its imp community, but one thing is clear the Senate has never had as strong an anti-imp presence as it does after this election.

Imp scandal, big problem

Rumour has been going around the region that the Imp rights leader, Sacul Astoria, has actually been taking short pills since he was very young, making him an impure Imp. Our research says it started with his parents mashing the pills into his food as a baby to keep him shorter. His mother has claimed that she “only wanted to keep her baby longer,” and that she “didn’t know the consequences would be so severe.”

But despite this big problem about small sizes, Sacul Astoria has said that he has earned a spot on the cast of the new hit tv show Hreat of Thrones as the character Lyrion Tannister. We interviewed the hobo outside our news office about the situation, he just kept mumbling and asked for change, so we asked the Phoenix Campus Professor standing next him. He said that it’s “a sad truth, that Imps, real or modified are able to become so popular.”

Farewell 2016, Hello 2017!!

2016 hasn’t necessarily been the best year, but in Arda en’ Estel we’ve made the most of it! Ending the year over an awesome 62,000 posts!! And we’ve not even had the whole year to achieve this legendary number!

2016 will be one to remember, with many bad things such as the death of David Bowie, Alan Rickman, George Michaels and- hey! That hurt! Erm, back to the positives! It’s finished now, and we must look forward to the future… We’ve all made resolutions we intend to keep, (face it, we probably won’t) and we’re all wondering what will 2017 be like… will she be kind? Or will she terrorize us like her predecessor…

A Celebration in Tinsely Twinkletown!

To conclude what has been a busy, but awesome year, Arda en’ Estel threw the very first annual Arda Christmas Festival! With a Christmas Feast, Christmas Ball, an Advent Calendar, Santa Elections and much more, it was destined to be quite a fun time… However, I don’t think anyone expected just how well it would go down! The ballroom was alive with dancing and while one or two attendees did drink far too much eggnog, it was still very fun…

Another attraction that was popular were the fun winter activities, such as the snowball fight or the game ‘Do you wanna build a snowman?’ Everyone got to participate, resulting in the snowman looking like this:

And then, the sad bit came… The End of The Festival! There was not a dry eye in the house as the fantastically fun festival finally finished. All the Candidates for the New Santa were picked off, one by one, in mysterious accidents, until only two remained, Sacul Astoria and Rhaegar Riket. The ensuing fight ending in hospitalization for both participants and no presents being delivered on Christmas morning, much to citizens’ horror and dismay. As the season of Yuletide Cheer left the province of Tinsely Twinkletown, it was replaced by rioting in the streets in protest to not receiving the required presents under the tree. The elves there retaliated against the rest of Arda with fruitcaek explosions, licking candy canes till they were really sharp and stabbing people with them and more horrific stuff. All in all the holiday season was deemed a giant success, with less hospitalizations than anticipated and more than enough snow for all the snowballs, snowmen, and snow angels Estelian citizens could make.

So farewell, Christmas Festival, We hope to see you again next year!

News from the Senate

Ardas Senate just doesnt seem to want to sit still, with no less than five diverse pieces of legislation under intense discussion this month. The third Constitutional Amendment has been in the works for quite some time now, as people just keep on coming up with ways to improve the Constitution even more. Senator La Luna attempted to pass the Workers Right to Relax Act, giving workers the right to 8 hours of sleep, 8 hours of rest and 8 hours of free time every day, very much in the spirit of her party, Arda’s Union of Conscientiously Work-Shy Elements. However, she didnt manage to get the support of her fellow Senators, which includes the business magnate Sacul Astoria who heavily opposed the legislation. A much more successful proposal of Senator La Lunas was The Religious Freedom Act, giving all citizens the freedom to follow the one true religion of the Hreater Good or be labelled a heretic. The National Holidays Act is also in the making, granting certain days such as Descent of the Sacred Pillow, Day of the Hreat Prophet and Heretic Tuesday the status of an official public holiday. Finally, the imp debate has come to a head with Senators Talleyrand and Vinograds proposal of the Imp Registration and Control Act. Senators Astoria and Ervald immediately retaliated with lengthy defences of the imp population, calling Tallerand and Vinograds views extremist, bigoted and radically right-wing. It remains to be seen which camp will win the debate, the deciding vote lying with the Senates fifth and final member, Senator Jazzy.

A ‘LEAFY’ Milestone!

Arda en Estel’s military, LEAF, completed its very first successful solo raid and refounding during the month of festivities! The refounding was pulled off in less than two weeks and the region ‘League of Bastards’ is now firmly within the hold of Arda en Estel.

As the Consul of Foreign Affairs, this operation was lead by Warmaster Aynia and her second-in-command, Centurion Tira Tyrus. Tira was soon appointed Officer of Badassery and Rhaegar Riket finally got some power, and was named Officer Santa. Together the three held watch over the region, only encountering minor stumbles during the operation.

This milestone will go down forever in Arda’s Military History and all the future generations can learn from this great success.

Arda en’ Estel is hosting, twice a month, parties at the Estelian Manor.
Citizens from all regions are welcomed to join the all-day parties. One must only apply as a tourist and head to the Estelian Manor subforum in Maple Lane to get started.
To get updates and discuss upcoming parties, ask Management for an invite to the Discord server. Party dates will be given out on the server, so keep an eye out.

Party Management is looking for Sub-Planners to help in planning the parties and updating the citizens of the regions.
If you wish to get in on the action and help out, message a Manager. To explain the roles, a part-time planner works once in awhile when he can, while a sub-planner works with Party Management as full-time. Parties, as stated, are twice a month and are planned a week in advance. Parties are a day long event and during the party planners may join and relax. The work is done and it’s time to have fun in what you have worked to create!
Sub-Planners from other regions will also be masked as a tourist on the forum, so fill that out, unless you are an ambassador.
We hope to have fun in working together to bring delight and fun to the citizens of all regions!

May the Odds be Never erm Ever in Your Favour

This month Arda held its very first annual Estelian Hunger Games! It was an action packed 7 days with 19 participants from the forum and 5 NPCs from around Arda. Vixy Riket went on to take the title of last survivor after racking up 5 kills and setting off a brutal explosion that had narrowed the field down considerably. By Night Three, it was all over. After Adorabella fell out of a tree and landing on Leopold Arnulf Riket and killing both of them it left Vixy as the last tribute standing. It just goes to show how brutal Vixy can be, when she’s determined to do something. The win was seen as ironic by many, since despite being a ruthless murderer, on Night 2 she was seen begging Altino to kill her off. Altino refused however, leaving Vixy distraught enough to go on to win the 1st Hunger Games of Arda en’ Estel!

The Very Un-Election

As the Senate Term ended for the Fifth Time, it was time for the Elections to happen once again. Three Seats were vacant from Vaclav, Akillian and The Almighty JAzzy.

However, they wouldn’t be vacant for long as Lil La Luna, Rarry Riket and Akillian Talleyrand all ran for the seats, resulting in a violent clash of wits and promises to be elec-- oh wait… That’s not right In fact this election resulted in a peaceful exchange of power, as the amount of seats was equal to the amount of candidates, meaning no one even had to campaign for the spot of Senator. EVERYBODY WINS! EVERYBODY GOT A SEAT!

Speaking of the Senate

In a surprising turn of events, the Fifth Senate of Arda failed to pass the Imp Regulation Laws, a fundamental part of some senators’ election campaigns. In response to this news, Imp Rights Activists celebrated all across Arda en’ Estel, while Imp Hunters were captured on camera smashing windows and rioting. Known Imp Activist and Senator, Sacul Astoria, said “With three of four Senators opposing this legislation and only one supporting it, the Imp Registration and Control Act fails, and justice prevails!”

Known sweetheart, Jazzy Riket, was overjoyed at this news and said “Yay! We don’t need to put you under special control!” She then flailed in happiness, as is customary for the Hreat JAzzy.

Arda Arrives at the World Fair

The ESS Arda, the regions first spaceship, was on its way to the exoplanet Yiunus X1 when it ran into some unfortunate problems. While in Really Very Fast Indeed Drive, it ran out of fuel. The Hreat JAzzy must have been smiling down upon the crew however, as they ran out of fuel not in the infinite expanse of empty space, but in a gathering of regions from all over the multiverse: The NationStates World Fair V.

With nothing better to do, the ship’s crew decided to visit some other space stations and stellar vessels, and while they enjoyed themselves in all manner of ways, they were secretly pocketing shiny things at every opportunity.

All hell broke loose as Lieutenant Aynia invited inquisitive, obnoxious foreigners (also known as tourists) onto the ESS Arda to explore. Captain Sacul shouted loudly as the tourists stole all the badges and then, when he tried to relax in the science module, he had the fright of his life as Aynia burst in, bringing with her even more tourists! They touched thing and threw things and burned stuff with acid until it was time for them all to leave. Some, however, decided to remain on the ship to come back to Arda, resulting in Sacul giving up and letting the annoying tourists stay on board. With the ship refuelled with all manner of substances gathered from around the Fair, the Estelians and their new companions were finally ready to head home once more.

Ardas presence at the Fair was strong, with the ESS Arda accumulating over 1 200 posts, which is more than 20% of activity in the entire Fair. Estelians were not only active in their own booth, but also encouraged to broaden their horizons, venturing forth to visit booths all over the Fair, resulting in three of the top five posters at the Fair being Estelians. We are already looking forward to next years Fair!

Arda Episode VI: Return of the Update

March 2017

The ESS Arda, a ship you may remember from the NS World Fair, was taken hostage by the First Order, one of the regions parties, upon its return home. Sacul Astoria, the ships Captain, summoned backup from Astoria Laboratories, while Supreme Commander Vixy av Riket of the First Order left control of the Troopers in the hands of her capable sister and second-in-command, Tira Tyrus.

The Ardas crew are putting up a fight with the help of the Astoria Laboratories staff, but it seems that the First Order may lay their hands upon the plans they are attempting to steal, as Jazzy leads one towards the secret documents in a classic treason move. Or perhaps shes just a little naïve, and believes too much in the good of people.

For now, the fight could go either way. What the crew lack in numbers they make up for in combat skills, but the sheer quantity of Troopers may result in them overpowering the crew of the ESS Arda. What exactly the plans contain has not been disclosed, but if the First Order is willing to put this much effort into obtaining them, it is likely something quite nefarious. Whether the ESS Arda will attempt to get back the plans can currently only be guessed at.

Love was in the air in Arda recently, as our Valentines Festival kicked off with a bang, or rather, a wub… Market stalls soon popped up, with some people selling kisses and cuddles while others sold Stuff like glitter bombs, and Loneliness Chocolate, for that special someone who just doesn’t have a valentine.

In a change from the classic game ‘Insult the Poster Above You’ we played ‘Compliment the Poster Above You’ which was a nice way to make everyone awkward.

Some other games Arda played were ‘He/She loves me’ in which participants would alternate between ‘Loves me’ and ‘Loves me not’ Some players believed it was indicating what the poster above you felt about you, but that has not been confirmed.

Other games were ‘Love Memes’ Basically post memes about love, ‘Love Songs’ basically post songs about love, ‘To: and From:’ in which people would find funny Valentines cards to send to someone.

And of course, what festival would be complete without ‘Last Poster gets to Live’? Yes, in true festival style, Vixy slid a ‘Last Poster gets to Live’ into the various topics of sickening love.

Arda Survives Nuclear War!

In a surprising turn of events that absolutely no one foresaw or had any sort of count down for, NationStates was plunged into a 36 hour nuclear war. Arda quickly formed a plan and before long was in the top ten, then five, then three, two, and first spot! Several screenshots were taken along the way to document our rise to power. Arda held spots in the top ten for most of the first day of the war, before citizens eventually got bored and moved on to the next source of destruction for entertainment. The initial stay at the number one spot was commemorated by Queen’s ‘We Are the Champions’ and will live on forever in the memories of the citizens of Arda en’ Estel.

Arda Plays the Fool!

If you hadn’t noticed, we are still kicking and have survived not only the nuclear war, but the brief coup of Lil La Luna. Both were hard fought battles and barely won, but at last order has once again been restored to Arda en’ Estel. All of the rightful government is in their places (for now…) and life has returned to (somewhat) normal…well, at least as normal as you can get for being in Arda en’ Estel.

The Festival of Knowledge:

Are you S-M-R-T? The Festival of Knowledge came to Arda and let citizens test out their skills in things like riddle solving, finding the common thread, and tons of general knowledge quizzes. Right answers (and picking lucky cases in Right or No Right! earned the players books, which they can now cash in at the festival shop for prizes. The big winner of the festival was Jazzy, who ended with 50 books! Congratulations!

Arda Radio!

Arda en’ Estel went on air for the first time March 29th as Radio Arda kicked off its first live episode. The opening topic was “The History of Arda” and covered the basis of the region and some of the more important aspects of its culture. Current events were also covered such as the Major Elections, Arda’s upcoming one year anniversary, and where our cohosts, DJ Punkin’ and DJ Puddin’, would go on vacation. That last part probably wasn’t very important. ARDA’S FIRST BIRTHDAY!

Arda celebrated her first birthday this month, and in true Ardanese style, we of course, had to have a party, with free food, booze and music, some people were even crushed in the stampede to attend.

While all the fun and games were taking place, most people decided to wish Arda a happy birthday:

Happy Birthday Arda!

While all this was taking place, the party and the birthday games were in full swing, people loved helping put the candles on the caek, and we managed to put on (number of candles at the end of the festival) candles in total!!!

Some presents Arda received was, some Magic chocolate, some Steampunk Chocolate and some Normal Chocolate, to represent each Estelian Faction. She also received a pint of Rarry Riket’s blood, to help her lands become fertile. (Before you ask, his blood does contain a gene scientifically proven to increase fertility drastically)

But while all this fun happiness was taking place, there was utter terror as people were chased down and attacked by numerous Clowns! After the terror was over, it was found that Vixy was not at fault for ordering them, as she hadn’t intended for that person to be killed by the clowns.

ARDA GOES TO THE POLLS!

The citizens of Arda en’ Estel once again went to the polls this month, this time for the Minor Elections V.
This month, the posts up for contention were all three Consulates, as well as the Senate seats held by Satya Romefeller and Sacul Astoria.

Democratic participation hit a new low, as only one of the five posts had an opposed contest.
Neither senator chose to defend their seats, allowing political veteran Rarry Riket to return to the Senate after being evicted last month, as well as perennial candidate Theio Altherio, who finally made it into the Senate by virtue of not having to face the scrutiny of the voters.
Aynia and Rarry were both unopposed in their runs for re-election to Foreign Consul and Culture Consul respectively.
The great majority of the excitement was spent on the race for the Interior Consulate, where the retirement of Akillian Talleyrand left an opening for three different candidates - retiring senator Sacul Astoria, the ever-ambitious Rarry Riket (also serving as Culture Consul and running for the Senate), and surprise candidate Emerstari, who made their entrance into forum life with something of a splash.
In the final event, Sacul cleaned the field with 65% of the vote, with his closest rival Emerstari left behind on only 35%.

MAYDAY FOR ARDA

At the start of the month, longstanding admin and regional stalwart Vixy “The Fox” surprised everybody by announcing that he was quitting, resigning his admin privileges and citizenship immediately. 'Twas a great shock for everybody, but for the average citizen life continued relatively as normal.

Until three days later Aynia announced that she was resigning too, stepping down as an admin, stepping down from the post of Foreign Consul that she’d been elected to barely a week prior, and declared that she was leaving the region too. In her resignation address, she talked of personal disputes between Vixy and the rest of the admin team. She talked of how Vixy had been refusing to resign from being an admin of the Discord chat (which she claimed he didn’t particularly enjoy anyway) and because and due to Discord’s unclear situation vis a vis the constitution she and the other admins took the decision to strip Vixy of admin privileges there without due process. She claimed that he had changed the passwords of both the founder nation and the root admin, and in light of the situation she felt that she could not longer stay in the region under the circumstances.

This, however, was a far greater cause for concern. The root admin and founder nation held hostage? The matter of the founder nation was soon resolved when Sacul announced that he’d been given the password for it, but the problem of the root admin remained, and questions still hung in the air about why Vixy had left.

Later on that day, Vixy surprised everybody by returning to the forum, with his citizenship and admin privilege restored. In a screed akin to Aynia’s, he laid forth his side of the story. He talked again of how Aynia had stripped him of Discord admin rights without due process, and so left the region in protest. He talked at length about the relationship between him and Aynia, how it had intensified and broken down, about his behaviour on the Discord chat and why he didn’t resign it. He said that he intended to stay and make up for what had happened, but continued to keep hold of the root admin.

Aynia’s response was to call him a liar. The response of the rest of the forum was mixed, with some people wishing him the best and calling for calm, whilst others denounced him as a traitor in terms as harsh as Aynia’s. If these statements had been intended to convince Vixy to give up the root admin, they were sorely misplaced, as Vixy responded by saying that he couldn’t trust anybody else in the region with the responsibility if that was how they were going to behave. The mood of the thread continued to remain sour, despite the best efforts of a number of individuals to calm tensions.

The next day, the impasse was finally broken when both Sacul and Siegfried announced their resignations as admins, Sacul citing the return of Vixy and his continued control of the root admin as his reason, whilst Siegfried pleaded simple exhaustion. They intend to nominate replacement admins shortly, and in the meantime, with Vixy still retianing control of the root admin, the matter continues to hang over Arda’s head.

In the absence of a serving Foreign Consul, this update has been collated by Senator Theio Altherio, who will continue to serve instead on a temporary volunteer basis until a replacement Foreign Consul can be elected.

Admin, Admout, Adshake it all about - Theio Altherio
You may remember from our previous update that three of our admins resigned or announced their resignation last month. After extensive consultation, Siegfried Tyrus and Sacul Astoria announced their nominated replacements, who were put before the Popular Assembly and approved unanimously. Soon after this, Siegfried, Sacul, and Vixy all formally handed over their admin powers and now Arda en’ Estel has a wholly new administrative team. Akillian Talleyrand, Jazzy, Narcissus Astoria, and Drissea Evanei Riket have the full support of the region and they, together with our new Discord admin Lil La Luna, shall continue the efficient management of the region.

A Surprisingly Foreign Affair - Theio Altherio
The resignation of Aynia, who up until that point had been Arda en’ Estel’s only Foreign Consul, left a large question hanging over the region’s head. Aynia had been Foreign Consul ever since the region’s founding, and nobody else had run for the post beforehand, deeming it fit to leave matters in her capable hands. With her gone, it was unclear who would be able to continue her work - and so, for the first time ever in the region’s history, there was a contested Foreign Consulate election. Regional stalwart and attempted wearer of multiple hats Rarry Riket faced off against perennial Senate candidate Theio Altherio, the most active member to have joined in 2017, in a contest that promised to be close but proved to be a landslide for unexpected winner Theio Altherio.

It has not been long since his election, yet the broom has been active. Aynia and Vixy had both resigned all their ambassadorial posts and these were redistributed to other willing citizens. All regions that have embassies with us have had the favour reciprocated. And despite the mess inherited, entirely new diplomatic relationships have been formed with Greater Diendstad, Hellenic Empire, and The Rejected Realms, a trend that the Foreign Consul hopes will continue.

Can’t LEAF It Alone - Theio Altherio
One of the many posts that needed refilling this month after Aynia left the region was that of Warmaster of LEAF, Arda’s military. Her replacement as Foreign Consul, Theio Altherio, was left with the task of picking a new one from LEAF’s sadly shrunken roster. In the end, he picked the only member who wasn’t also either an admin or a consul, Gabrielis Telchuri, as the new Warmaster of LEAF. Gabrielis’ mandate is one of recruitment and reorganisation, which he has gone about with gusto. A new ranking system has been introduced, modelled on that of the mid-republican Polybian legions, and a new recruitment push has been started for LEAF, which has already seen people volunteering to join.

Making the Library Hreat Again- Rarry Riket

A massive increase in Cultural activity occurred this month, but it didn’t come from the culture consulate, it came from the people of Arda en’ Estel. Emerstari introduced such titles as ‘The Survivor’, ‘The Constitution of Arda’, ‘The Government of Arda en’ Estel’, and ‘The Hreater Good’; whilst Theio Altherio added some poetry to the collection, in the form of Run. These are quite good to read, if you want to find out about their respective subjects.

Other entries into the Hreat Library include ‘Consuls of the Consulates’ by Sacul Astoria, an updated ‘Senators of the Senate’ by Sacul Astoria, and ‘Legislative History of the Senate’ by Akillian Talleyrand, who have been very active and very awesome members, since the day they set foot on Estelian soil. We hope to see more of these fantastic Estelians writing up books for the Hreat Library. If Your Election Lasts More Than Two Rounds… - Theio Altherio
In addition to the Foreign Consul by-election earlier this month, there were also a set of regularly scheduled elections, this time for the post of Tribune as well as three Senate seats. Lil La Luna was returned unopposed to the Tribunal, but with four candidates running for three Senate seats the region’s electoral efforts found a safe exhaust. Akillian Talleyrand, Lil La Luna, and Drall all stood for relection, and were joined by ambitious neophyte Emerstari in what promised to be a close race.

And by God was it a close race. The first round saw an unprecendented three candidates tied for second place on 7 votes, as Akillian was returned to the Senate on 9. For the first time ever, a run-off round had to be held, with three candidates chasing two posts in a contest that proved to be just as close as the first, as Emerstari narrowly overtook Lil La Luna to join the Senate for the first time in a 3-way contest split 5-5-4. The new team will take up office soon as the Tenth Session of the Senate commences.

ARDA?! UK?! FESTIVAL?! What are You…K on about?! - Rarry Riket
Earlier this month the Arda-UK Festival kicked off with a bang! no… Literally, it kicked off with a bang… two planes crashed onto an island!

With members from Arda en’ Estel on Coronet Airlines 336, and the Brits on Flight 4554, the two teams separated at first, but now, they are being chased by Carnivourous Coconuts, and the lousy brits keep trying to steal our food! It’s alright though, because we’re hitting them back in the Attack of the Estelians thread! Woohoo! Go the Awesome Ardanians! Go the Excellent Estelians! Go the Marvellous Mystics! Go the Cool Cogs!

Anyway, the festival shows a great number of posts, and the runway train… or plane, as the case may be, of posts doesn’t seem to be slowing!

We Are The Senate - Theio Altherio
It’s been a busy old month for our Senators. Nine entirely new bills were presented on the Senate floor, of which the Senate Records Act and Senate Standing Orders have been introduced as standalone legislation and Constitutional Amendment V has been passed, introducing to Arda en’ Estel the previously alien concept of Vicarius (Deputy) Consuls. Additionally, the Estelian Diplomacy Act got resurrected from the coffin of red tape and was passed into law as well. The new Senatorial team elected last month have decidedly proven their mettle, and will continue to do a fantastic job.

When I Hear The Word Culture I Reach For My Keyboard- Theio Altherio
Cultural activity in the region has not been confined solely to the Arda-UK Festival however. The Hreat Library continues to take in new entries, with Emerstari and Theio Altherio adding more long-form fiction and poetry respectively. Arda University has reopened for education, with a new practical class available for those wishing to learn how to use a laboratory - more teachers are always welcome. There’s ever more events going on in the houses on Maple Lane, including at least one impromptu concert.

But perhaps most importantly, the NationStates: Arda RP has finally started. For those looking to get in on the ground of some present-day roleplay, it’s a perfect opportunity to get stuck in.

Whatever Floats Your Vote - Theio Altherio
Election season came upon Arda en’ Estel again, as it does for us all, in the form of Minor Elections VI, where all three Consuls were up for re-election, along with the Senate seats held by Rarry Riket and Theio Altherio. Only the Culture Consulate stood uncontested, as Rarry Riket was once again returned unopposed to the post. The Foreign Consulate saw a contest much like last time - a landslide for incumbent Theio Altherio against perennial contender Rarry Riket - but elsewhere it proved to be an interesting election.

The voting for Interior Consul saw three contenders - incumbent Sacul Astoria, candidate last time around Emerstari, and memorable neophyte Nacho Moxy - run in what proved to be a nail-biter, as Emerstari clinched it by a single vote ahead of Sacul Astoria. It’s not a complete loss of continuity - Emerstari was Interior Aedile previously, so will be able to bring his experience there into the role. The Senate, meanwhile, saw five people stand, with both incumbents running again against hopeful returnees Sacul Astoria and Lil La Luna as well as Nacho Moxy on his Mexican crusade. As it was, a low turnout saw Lil pass the first hurdle, with Theio then proceeding to lose the run-off against fellow second-placer Sacul Astoria in a landslide. The new (and current in some cases) team are sure to serve just as well as their predecessors (including themselves) did last month.

CONSULATE SHAKE UP - Sacul Astoria
Elections were recently upon us once again. The Senate saw no changes, with incumbent Sacul Astoria and Lil La Luna being the only candidates to run. For the Consulates things were different however every position was contested, and two saw a change in leadership. Emerstari remained in charge of the Interior Consulate. After Theio Altherio announced his intention not to run for Consul of Foreign Affairs, Akillian Talleyrand took over as Consul of Foreign Affairs. Sacul Astoria replaced incumbent Consul of Culture Rarry Riket after defeating him in the elections.

CHANGE AIN’T BAD JUST BECAUSE IT’S FOREIGN - Theio Altherio
This month’s been a busy one for the Foreign Consulate. Over the past month, a treaty with Kantrias has been approved, giving Arda en’ Estel a leg up into the realm of NationStates Gameplay. An in-game embassy has been opened with Londinium, with an exchange of ambassadors likely to follow. But one of the big actions surely has to be the rationalisation of ambassadorships that took place; in the interests of ensuring that all our links are effective, embassies have been withdrawn from Equilism, Equinox, The Communist Bloc, and The Britannian Kingdom.
The other big action is that I, Theio Altherio, am stepping down as Foreign Consul. I’ve served for three and a half months, in which I provided ample administration; my successor shall bring inspiration.

HAVE A TAR - Theio Altherio
The Avatar Contests have been a long-standing tradition of Arda en’ Estel, where the good folk of the region are called upon to find and bear images that accord closely to both them and to a given theme. Those who the region think have the best images are awarded the privilege the deciding the theme for the next contest. Under the tenure of Vlada and myself, there have been eleven such contests; the most frequent winners have been Sacul Astoria, with 3 victories in hand, and Lil La Luna, on 4. And at long last, the Senate - at my urging - has enshrined this beloved institution in law, with the passing of the Avatar Contests Act. The role of Avatar Commissioner has yet to be filled, but there is time enough before the next Contest to formalise the matter.

NUCLEAR APOCALYPSE - Sacul Astoria
Only a couple of months ago, Arda en Estel was faced with the threat of nuclear destruction for the first time in history. They formed a strong team of nuclear specialists, weapons experts and military strategists, who fought day and night to save our beloved region, and destroy all those meanies who bombed our homeland (along with a couple of innocent nations who unfortunately perished in the collateral damage). Their dedication brought Arda en Estel higher and higher up in the leaderboard, each milestone position being celebrated with loud screaming. And yes, they managed to fight their way gradually all the way to the top of the leaderboad after which they were totally obliterated, but you wont find mention of that in the history books! Following that victory, when it was announced nuclear warfare would break out once again just days ago, we were of course confident that we would be totally fine. Thus, many decided to sit out the war while enjoying a cocktail or cigar, the region should do okay like last time, right? When the first bombs struck, an enthusiastic, albeit rather disorganised team set out to defend the region and spread terror throughout others. However, despite their dedicated work, the region was soon overrun by nuclear fallout. At the time of writing we are at a modest 765th place upon the leaderboard. We are thus sending this update out from our government bunker deep under the surface, in the hope that it will at least reach some regions if there are any of you out there still alive.
