Atlantia Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

“Hello, and welcome to AOAA such a pleasure to welcome you all” Serafina Martins chief of Internships says to the new group of teens. “Please follow me i will show you around and to your rooms” they follow her around the building “Here is were we check the oceans of Atlantia and her Majesty Commonwealths which helps track hurricanes and tropical depressions as they form over the pacific and Concordian oceans” she sats before leading them to the outside. One of students Joey Ketterer raises his hand for a question. “Yes Mr.ket…” She says " Ketterer, so do you not recieve weather from other places?" He says. " Yes we can warn countries in other places of the world of a weather even but we usually only do that in emergencies".

Leandro Lybrand lead meteorologist walks through the hallways, when he was interrupted by a staff member " Mr.Lybrand there seems to be a disturbance off the coast of Gondwana in the Central Concordia Ocean, according to simulations it could reach a Category 2 or better at its current rate of formation, its expected to hit Verdian Union first before slammin into Nacata" he says, " We will let this play out for lil while we need to see it form a eye before we start to panic," he says before walking off to his office.

Leandro Lybrand rushes down the hallway, he finally got what expected a Catagory 1 Hurricane was currently Plowing through Elbina, Owha, and islands owned by the VU. To his surpise the course of the hurricane took the unsual warm path around Gondwana then the normal path of going west, " Can someone fax this message to the goverment of Mexregiona " he hands the paper to the the secretary before rushing to the C-130 so they can fly inside the hurricane to capture data.

Receiving the fax, Mister Leader II bored his vision into one of his aides and handed them the sheet. She immediately went to illustrate the information, as Mister Leader was by far a visual man. He couldn’t grasp intelligence well if he didn’t have it going through a medium. The aide returned and gifted the man a new, laminated spreadsheet. Surely it would someday be on display at a museum or a NSwiki page.

“This isn’t looking good for us,” Mister Leader says, eyeing the rough approximations. What are the certainties of each course?"
“Oh, there are no certainties. We just know that the northern two are more likely than the southern considering the storm’s current movements.”
“Well, crap. Send word to Insulmin City and Nouvelle Ville and Archopolis. The first will need specifics and the latter two will need preparations. If I’m not mistaken, if the hurricane heads for Continental Mexregiona, it’ll funnel through the Strait of Sydonia. And that’ll propel it through the interior on a rampage.”
“Yes, you’d be correct.”
“Get everybody ready, then.”

" MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY, this is the LS Buton we are stuck inside a large storm we are 82 Miles Due West of Owha uhh idk how much longer we can make it… Please get help…" the captain repeats on the radio before the ship gets hit by a large wave capsizing the ship. Mr.Lybrand heard the distress over the radio " How far are we from this storm captain?" He says, " Uhh were over unclaimed territory now it will be atleast another hour and half before we make it to the eye" he replies. Lybrand sits back looking at the radar readings " its moving and growing at a very weird rate something is wrong " he tries recalculating the readings with each conclusion being Invalid.

Arnulf nodded as he read the fax. “How far south is the storm surge predicted to go?” he asked.

“It will definitely affect the northern coast and the coast around Rappersstadt. It will be weaker around Rheinlingen, but it will most likely still be a problem.”

“What about Vilkirch?”

“It should be far enough south and east into the Bay of Reiktic that the storm surge shouldn’t effect them.”

Arnulf nodded again. “Have the minister of the environment send out a message to the public that all coastal areas in northern and western Talusi should be evacuated and that their homes should be boarded up. I’ll also need my private jet readied to take me to Vilkirch so that we can avoid the storm surge.”

The aide nodded rapidly and left the room. “Yes sir!” the aide shouted from the hall.

Mexregiona prepared intensely. Archopolis and Dropdatderp were to be hit by the monstrosity. The two largest cities in the nation were in a state of emergency. Course sand shipments from Ingenlap Island were sent all throughout the Parishes of Archia and Lousisianaia. Terror enveloped the people as they barred their windows and purchased weather radios from local department stores. Many were shaken into hiding. Many were shaking into running. Many shipped themselves off to the Second Republic, thinking that they would be safe in the harboring volcanic ranges of the nation. Weather details concluded, however, that this was not the case. Although the storm would weaken, it would almost definitely meet Central Tretrid, regardless of man’s attempts at delaying. It was just a matter of time.

A number of Tretrid-bound Mexregionans would have nothing to go back to.

Because one of the storm’s projected path came dangerously near the Tretridian coast, a tropical storm watch was posted for Draeset and a warning for Gedert. The government started to plan evacuations of the parts of Gedert closer to the coast.

0400 Hours
Exeter, The Atlae Isles
July 26th, 12017

Bleary-eyed officials stumbled their way into the emergency meeting, fumbling around with their cups of instant coffee. After someone stood at the podium and set the agenda, everyone seemed to magically sober up and sit up straight.

The path to take seemed clear. The Crown gave each island (or dominion, as they called it,) authority to declare an emergency for any imminent natural, internal, or external threat that was likely to harm the Atlae Isles or its citizens. Therefore, it was quickly declared, and hurricane watch was instituted.

The officials soon drove out of the meeting and waited until the nearest survival supplies store opened and bought what they could. They only had 12 hours left.

After coming out of today’s session of the Conference, the President wearily began to walk to her car. Hearing frantic footsteps coming up from behind, she turned to see an aide running up with a printout.

“M-Ms. President,” the aide gasped. “You need to read this!”

Her brow crumpling with concern, Praetzel took the document and read it, her expression getting darker with every word.
(OOC: It’s a family surname)

Motioning to him to follow her back to the Assembly chambers, she asked,“Is it confirmed?”

“Yes ma’am,” the aide replied. “The hurricane is going to wash over Kadur and a large swath of the Northern Pacific, and we have until tonight to fully prepare.”

Looking up at the gray sky, Praetzel said,“Because of the earlier broadcasts, we’ve been preparing for a smaller scale storm. We’ll have to expand the evacuation order, and extend the moratorium on inbound and outbound traffic. We’ll also need to have the military and safety crews on standby to assist in any serious emergencies that crop up, and get people to secure shelters.”

The aide slowed down, and Praetzel stopped beside him.

“There’s another thing ma’am.”

Praetzel asked," What is it?"

“We’ve got reports of people moving towards the Kadurian Range on the Western Peninsula, and some of them aren’t Kadurian. We think that they’re seeking shelter in the mountains,” The aide said grimly.

Praetzel caught his meaning.

“They’re not going to be safe from the hurricane, not even in the mountains.”

“Yes. We’ve already got some people heading over to inform them of that, and offer to move them somewhere safer. We could also move them to the mainland before traffic is halted.”

“They’ll have to be quick,” Praetzel said. “It’s already unsafe to be in or over the ocean. Pretty soon, it’ll practically be suicide.”

“Come on,” Praetzel continued. “We have to inform the Assembly.”

As they entered the Assembly building, the sky got darker.

The skies over Kadur turned a very dark, the waves size increased slowly from 5 foot swells to 20 foot giants crashing against the shore, the winds picked up tossing anything that wasnt bolted to the ground. Lightning and thunder everywhere it was hard to see anything, finally the waves pushed into the island Hurricane Irvene is sneezing Kadur full force of a category 3.

As the hurricane began to batter Kadur, people across the island hunkered down and prepared for a sleepless and terrifying night.

In the usually bustling cities of the Eastern Peninsula, the streets lay empty under the squalling winds and pounding rain.

In a little-known fishing village in the southeast, a military division helps terrified Kadurians evacuate, as wave after wave flood the streets and smash into their homes.

Among the croplands and pastures of the Golden Plains, a lonely farmhouse is lashed with the rain and shudders under the thunder, as a small family bravely attempts to keep their animals safe.

In the Assembly Chamber, the President helps coordinate the rescue teams and military as they assist people in need.

Across the country, people are trying to remain calm within the storm of the decade, just waiting for it to pass.

[hr]
“Come on people! The storm isn’t going to wait for you guys!” yells a rescue worker, trying to get himself heard over the howling wind.

The rain slapped him in the face as he tried to catch sight of the refugees and the rescue team as they struggled to escape the floodwaters in the village. It had been a miserable day for him, going around the island in this ferocious storm, trying to keep things stable and calm.

Or at least as calm as it could get.

Several children shrieked in fear as a tree fell onto a house, making a horrific rending noise as the building caved in.

The worker laboriously turned to one of his comrades and yelled,“Was anyone inside?!”

“No!” The other volunteer shouted back. “Everyone is either here or in the shelters! We need to get these people inside quickly!”

The worker grimaced as the wind picked up.

“ALL RIGHT PEOPLE!” He bellowed. “FOLLOW ME!”

As he patiently guided people to safety from the floodwaters, he muttered to himself," What a day, what a day."

Rain started battering down. The water began to gradually rise.

Thankfully, the suburbs had been evacuated. (According to the officials.) As they were individual islands, the evacuation was easy.

Even though people complained about forced movement or soon-to-be lost property, none of them were complaining now that they were tucked safely away.

The problem was where they were. If projections were correct, the islands, with a few exceptions, would be almost covered in water.

The hurricane shelters seemed to be holding, however.

Dr. Linda Warren had joined the AOAA as the hurricane was a tropical depression. She had a PhD in meteorology, and had several other degrees that she needed to be a meteorologist. When she was young, she thought is was just as simple as saying when it would be sunny or rainy.

Nope. Now she was sending recommendations to her government to place storm watches and warnings.

When she had recently received information that they had done such, she was somewhat satisfied, but she still had to track the hurricane, and monitor its progress.

Kadurian Assembly Chamber
New Orston

Outside, Praetzel could hear the wind losing its strength slightly. Turning to one of the meteorologists standing in the room, she asked,“Are we getting to the end of it?”

Frowning at his laptop, he replied,“No, we’re still in the storm.”

He turned it around to show her, and she could see a red hurricane symbol over the Northern Pacific Ocean, with the Kadurian Isles still solidly inside.

“According to the data, we still have several hours to go before we get through. But, I think we might survived the worst of it,” the meteorologist announced to the room.

A slight shiver of relief passed around the room.

Which then disappeared as the wind gave a temporary loud squall.

In Gedert, massive evacuations from the coast were occurring, as people moved inland to areas safe from the projected storm surge. In Draeset, there was an advisory for high winds and minor flooding from torrential rains, but nothing as major as a storm surge, due to the cliffs on the coast acting as a barrier.

The false sense of relif came when part of the eye of the hurricane took position over Kadur, the sun seemed to just appear and the winds cease to exist, the waves calmed down and for lil over 30 minutes everything seem swell, as quickly as it came it left the storm quickly reappeard tearing down anything that was still standing.

FORECASTER KNABB

“Okay, and it’s confirmed. We’ve only experienced a temporary grace period here,” the meteorologist said to the Assembly.

“At least it gave us a half-hour to finish getting people to safety,” pointed out Timothy Peppe, Vice President.

“There is that. It probably saved a few lives,” remarked one of the Assembly members.

Walking forward a few steps, Praetzel leaned forward slightly and rested her hands on the conference table.

“I think this storm has proven that we were completely unprepared for anything like it,” she said.

“Mostly because that storm came practically out of nowhere. We knew about it for a week, but we didn’t know it would become this strong until yesterday!” exclaimed another Assembly member.

“Well, since we’ve gotten it together and still have this storm to ride out, we should focus on maintaining Kadur’s condition. We can argue out how to better prepare later,” Praetzel said, squinting outside at the racing clouds and sheets of rain.

“For now, let’s focus on this storm surge in Kileto,” the first Assembly member announced. “We need to finish the evacuation there.”
