My fellow Magisters,
For the last five years, it has been my greatest honor to be a part of this fair Magisterium. For the majority of that time, I have served as Deputy Provost - from February 2020 to May 2021 under Provosts Bachtendekuppen, A mean old man, Acronis, Shadow, and Dylan; and since October 2021, Zukchiva, Vixen, Halleyscomet, CyberiumShadow, Dremaur, and most recently, Pauline Bonaparte. I have accomplished more than one would expect from a clerical deputy: aside from obliterating the record for longest-serving Deputy twice over, I also helped to establish the special Provost election precedent when Acronis resigned in 2021. I have opened more than several votes, proposed some legislation, and thoroughly conducted almost every duty of the office of the actual Provost at least once (even going so far as to serve as Acting Provost on a few occasions). CyberiumShadow has called me “the lynchpin of the Magisterium” and, more humorously, “part of the furniture in the Provost’s Office”. I have, over the years, enjoyed significant support from the Provosts I’ve helped, the Magisters I’ve enjoyed countless debates with, and the East Pacific as a whole, the region which has given its all to me for six strong years and counting.
Dating back a number of years, I was often asked the question of whether or not I would consider running for Provost. “Not yet, I’m busy,” was my usual response. “When the time is right.” But in recent months, it has occurred to me that we are seeing a paradigm shift in East Pacifican politics and legislation. Magisters and non-Magisters alike are hungry for change, and are taking the first steps to enact what could be region-defining policies in the interest of bringing The East Pacific to new heights in a post-F/S update world. Turning my head beyond the computerized world of the East Pacific, I have looked at the road ahead of me. My window of availability for this position may be closing, perhaps in as soon as just 6 short months.
I’ve taken a long, hard look at the region, at my life, and at the Magisterium, and have come to a decision: The time is now.
Ring the bells. Play the music. The impossible has happened.
I, AC, declare this 22nd day of March, 2025, that I am officially initiating my first-ever formal campaign for Provost of the Magisterium of the East Pacific.
…Okay. That’s pretty much all of the formalities out of the way. Let’s get to the substance: what will I actually be doing here?
Over the course of the last few months, I’ve taken to conducting a lot of the clerical tasks in the Magisterium in preparation for (hopefully) assuming the office of Provost. Most significantly, I held a Roll Call in late February, one which came with generally desirable results. If elected, it is my intention to continue these Roll Calls. I generally aim to be conducting them on a monthly basis.
I do anticipate that with the slew of legislation about to land upon Magisters’ desks, I will need to be keeping better tabs on who is active and who isn’t. Through the Roll Calls and likely through spreadsheets and calendars not unlike those that were previously adopted earlier on in my Magisterial career by the Provost’s Office, I hope to increase Magisterial accountability and efficiency, ensuring that our Magisters are as ready and able as possible to exercise their powers and duties as our regional legislators (specifically, that we are regularly quorate).
I also wish to explore the possibility of finding avenues to increase interest in the Magisterium in an effort to generate further manpower for this body, whether this be through more sophisticated campaigns or simply through word of mouth (or, really, keyboard). Admittedly, I’m not sure what this looks like yet, so I hope that discussions will come of this idea.
It has also become apparent to me in recent weeks that some portions of our recordkeeping have stagnated and need to be either A. overhauled or B. simply caught up on. I have carried out some portions of this task already, but am intent on dedicating myself and my Deputies further to fixing cracks in a potential AC Provostship. About a month ago, in the #magisterium Discord channel, it was proposed by @Shadow that we adopt some sort of “Librarian” role:
“I think if we had somebody [who’s] job was the be the librarian to update [the Index of Laws & Treaties], I think it would be better maintained.”
I would be open to experimenting with a specialized or semi-specialized position of this sort, perhaps with some modifications.
I think, overall, that a lot of what I intend to do as Provost are things I am already doing or have done before in the way-too-many years I’ve spent being Deputy. Now, though, I’m ready to lead the charge - for a better Magisterium and a better TEP. Ultimately, however, you are free to vote as you please. If I’m not deemed ready, so be it - I will accept all feedback and am quite willing to stick around as Deputy Provost. I will do whatever I can to help the Magisterium succeed in its goals.
Questions, suggestions, and comments are thoroughly appreciated. The more ways we can address things in this fair Magisterium and this region, the better. Make your voice heard!
