Ah, what a… thrilling vacation! Much needed, and… likely well overdue. Apparently, doing a little bit of re-discovering myself was just what the doctor ordered. Glad to know I didn’t miss much.
With my head slightly clearer, I think it appropriate that I address… much of my first term in office. I’m not going to shy away from the truth in saying… that sucked! For everybody! I realize now, though, that such is the way of regional legislature in times of region-defining change. I found that out the hard way, but I survived - all thanks to the support of this wonderful group of Magisters. I could not be prouder of all of you for sticking it out despite the mess. It was a lot, and I felt it about as much as anybody. Thank you for your understanding during the turmoil of these last few months. Y’all are the best.
Now that I - as well as, apparently, the majority of this body - have taken a few weeks to step back and re-evaluate the sanctity of life, I believe the Magisterium is ready to move forward in our ultimate goal of making The East Pacific a better place. To this effect, I believe I am ready to lead this fair Magisterium through its 66th legislative session.
Let’s look back upon my last campaign and see just where we’re at on things:
- Roll Calls: The monthly Roll Calls have been effective in keeping Magisters accountable. Due to a high volume of votes in late May and early June, the Roll Call for this month was forgone. These will continue if I am re-elected.
- Keeping Tabs/Provost’s Office Organization: In early stages. I do have things on spreadsheets, but these will need updated following my 2-week absence. They are also not shared with Deputies yet, so I should probably get to that LOL
- Index of Laws and Treaties: With significant help from the Deputies and AMOM, we fixed the Index of Laws and Treaties during my first term. I consider this a major accomplishment of the first AC Provostship, and I hope to continue maintaining the Index into my second term. Have also considered the idea of a greater reference index for the East and its government as a whole.
- Librarian: Have not yet adopted such a role, informal or otherwise, during first term (partially due to chaos). If re-elected, will consider amongst Deputies.
- Re: Deputies: The Deputies have done a lot of work this session, which I greatly appreciate. I do however intend to become more participatory in opening votes going into a potential term #2.
I feel as though I have been able to communicate effectively what I want done, and the Deputies have done an excellent job of getting it done right. There may be some team adjustments going into term #2 (especially with recent proposed amendments being what they are), so I am interested in hearing applications for new Deputies (especially those new to the Office of the Provost).
Overall, am extremely pleased with the team I have built this session. Communication in the Office of the Provost is plentiful, consistent and effective. These are all incredibly hard workers, and the combined Provost’s Office has accomplished many important tasks in this 65th session of the Magisterium of the East Pacific.
I know there are some questions about my ability to last another 3 months out here, and I’m willing to answer to any concerns regarding the past, present or future. Please let me know if these concerns exist and I will address them. Otherwise, with a clear head and a mindset of stubborn resilience, I am confident in my ability to continue leading this fair Magisterium for another 3 months.
The decision is yours, Magisters. Remember: the only incorrect vote is no vote at all. Make your voice heard!
