Council of Holders Establisment

Let’s get this started.

The center piece of this University is it’s Council of Holders, which elects the Chancellor and votes on the acceptance of new Holders. Furthermore, the direction the University takes on all kind of matters should be discussed here, as well as the making of educational programs and the establishment of Faculties.

Invited to this first establishment of a Council of Holders are ASBS, Prussia, EM, Jurisdictions and Aelitia, who have all agreed to play their roles in this University, for which I am very thankful. Of course, any interested candidates may always approach me. East Malaysia agreed to have a more loose function, but I included him in this discussion nonetheless. Furthermore, anyone is welcome to join in and voice their opinions and advice.

First on our list, I suggest, is establishing our Faculties and starting on making some programs. The idea is that students can sign up for some program, do the assignments which are overseen by the Holders or by the Chancellery, and get some sort of certificate depending on which program they followed.

Based on the content in our http://theeastpacific.com/topic/5172039/1/#new, I suggest the following Faculties:

  • TEP, History, Culture and Roleplay
  • Regional & Interregional government, Political theory & Law
  • Nationstates, Gameplay and Military Tactics
  • RL Topics and Fantasy courses

Much cooler names can of course be suggested, this is just a rough division.

I await your much respected opinions. I also thank Aelitia for a lot of these ideas, she will probably be able to add much more to this.

East Pacifian Studies (TEP History, Culture and Roleplay)

World and Fantasy Studies -alternately Faculty of Mysteries or something…(RL Topics and Fantasy courses)

Anyways on to business. Bach and I have gone back and forth on the structure on the University and what is above is a very detailed description of what we currently have set. To add to the certificate information, Holders or citizens can propose a curriculum to the Council of Holders (which they may approve or deny, we have no set processes) which will detail the activities/reading to be done in a specific “module” or “lesson”. These lessons are to be done in a specific order and then checked for completion by the faculty head or by the Chancellery in order to move on. Once a curriculum is laid out, depending on its length and difficulty, the certificate conferred may be a TEP University Certificate or Degree (varying levels of difficulty least to highest- Certificate of the East Pacific University, Undergraduate, Masters -and PhD).

I would also propose that if a Holder or citizen creates a curriculum (of at least Undergraduate level, and extra consideration for Masters level) and adds to the library of TEP in a meaningful way, the Chancellor may upon advice of the Council, bestow a PhD to the Holder in the related field, in education or both. I would propose this to be the only way to receive a PhD, as it reflects real life a bit.

We do not have a set structure for the Faculty Officials as of yet, and your Faculty would be part of the “Real Life and Fantasy Studies” (as Bach put it), or the “World and Fantasy Studies” (as I put it) Faculties. Once we agree on the Faculties, we may then look into creating a Department within said Faculty for Science and Technology.

I commend you for the work you have done, but I do not believe we are ready to go into such detail yet- especially without a curriculum or any Library documents supporting it.

I appreciate your energy, but technically Holders are appointed or proposed by the Chancellor. Holders are to be people with a substantial understanding and knowledge in some field, either in TEP, Nationstates or RL, preferably with some experience and a decent record of service. This is not to say I wouldn’t accept your input in this University, you seem suitable for a role in fantasy or roleplay areas, and I’ll take it under consideration.

I like these suggestions.

I like the suggestions also.

Good Stuff.

If I am correctly to assume that I will be helping in the Law area of education, personally I would propose that college to be called “NationStates Law and Political Science”

I would say to leave it just “Law and Political Science” so that we it can address East Pacific Law, and also interregional and Nationstates Law.

The term “NationStates Law” is to invoke learning on legal systems within NationStates…

Some may get confused that we will try to teach RL law, I would think.

While ‘Law and Political Science’ is indeed a broader term, it could indeed create the impression it’s about real life law, which would actually belong in the ‘World and Fantasy Studies’ I suppose. So putting NationStates in front of it can be clearer I think, and still encompasses TEP law, interregional and general nationstates law.

I’ve read the above ideas and I’m thankful for all of you and your creativity. I have no additional suggestions. I will note that the description, “World and Fantasy Studies -alternately Faculty of Mysteries or something…(RL Topics and Fantasy courses)” struck me as amusing.

It seems only in the concept of a university contained within a forum of a game created by a fiction writer would real life topics and fantasy be combined as the same university department. I don’t object. I’m just amused.

Let me know how I can help.

It’s indeed quite funny, though, from an NS point of view it actually makes sense.

On an added note, I would like confirmation from those who were interested being Holders or involved generally, which are ASBS, Prussia, EM, Jurisdictions and Aelitia, amongst others.

To me, and if agreed one, it would seem logical that Juris and Prussia take on respectively the law&political science faculty and the Nationstates & Strategic Studies faculty. The faculty of East Pacifican Studies and the Faculty of World & Mystery Studies can be administered by the Chancellery or ASBS/EM if they are interested?

Other candidates are welcome too of course. We have a lot of experienced players here who could function as Holders and all interest is welcome.

I am finding that the Provost position is very time-consuming.

I am willing to stay involved, but I don’t think I have the time to administer any courses or faculty.

It is quite time consuming indeed  No problem of course, the Provost job comes first in that case.

I am more than devoted to the University personally and would like the chance to perform as a Holder.

Fine by me. You’ve done a lot for this university and I’ve no doubt you’ll be a devoted Holder. Which Faculty would you aspire to administer?

I think I would be a fit only for the Law & Political Science, or the World studies.

As we have a few already interested in the Law and World Studies, I would opt for the latter. Although I would ask I be involved with the creation of the Law program.
