Expansion to Gondwana

OOC: This idea has been rolling around in my head for a while, but this time, I’ll RP it before I claim it.

Maya Jaxacyl was annoyed. Negotiations with the other side (A Colonial Vision) had stalled. She hadn’t gone on her next phase of real estate in Gondwana, so she wrote up a plan.

There were islands near Gondwana that were uninhabited. These would make a good vantage point for trade. Then, they could establish two ports on mainland Gondwana to bring trade.

She typed this up to Kyle Richards, her boss.

His reply came swiftly.

Again? Look, fine. We’ll do it because this time, the islands are uninhabited. Now stop asking me for more land. We’re already stretched enough, and made enough enemies. Please don’t make me demote you to undersecretary.

Sincerely,
Kyle Richards
Minister of Foreign Affairs

Undersecretary? That was a bit mean to threaten that. She started to email surveyor companies to survey the islands and ports.

Surveyors came and went, architects were giving suggestions, engineers and construction crews argued about costs and benefits.

None of that mattered to Maya Jaxacyl. Yes, she wanted to open trade to Gondwana. And hopefully, this way was the most nonviolent and cost-efficient way possible.

Domestic Minister James Stevenson stared at his letter. Prime Minister Wilson wanted to give him (more) practice sending letters.

Hello,
We have found out about your plans to annex islands in Gondwana. I also note that they are uninhabited, so you don’t have anybody to conquer. I would like to see under what conditions could we operate a trading post on one of the islands.

Thank you,
James Stevenson

I’m having a serious case of deja vu right now, you know, with Mexregiona and Asendavia and all. I’d like to see how this topic will play out, though.

Surveyors came to Maya Jaxacyl, who was helping surveying the new port. (Original thread here: http://forum.theeastpacific.com/topic/7005685/1/#new)

“Ma’am!” they shouted. “The Oan Isles are starting to conquer Gondwana! They will cross the ocean!”

She thought, and thought better of it. They wouldn’t be much of a threat to her country.

Post from Operation Conquer Gondwana. Enjoy.

The Atlaesian legislature was split on whether to construct the port before or after the military action in Gondwana was done.

Oaluoa Uye was sitting alone in his study and enjoying a cigar. He enjoyed the spice flavour of the Oan Spicewood Tree that had been imbued into the potent brew. It helped him calm down and think clearly.

He knew that he didn’t have enough money or domestic and political support to carry out his over ambitious expansion plan. He decided to pook for potential allies. He had received information from his spies that The Atlae Isles was planning on building ports and colonising land on Gondwana. He sent a letter to Maya Jaxacyl.

Dear Maya Jaxacyl

I’m sure you’ve never heard of me or my country, but I have it on good authority that you have heard of our expansion plan. We have heard of your plan to extend your reach to warmer water.

I want to extend a hand of friendship and extend your reach. Your legislature needs encouragement to support your plan. If you have a parter in that endeavour, they might be receptive to the idea.

I simply ask for money and I save you the incredible inconvenience of using your own forces to colonise the area. If you are particularly ambitious, you might find it apt to invest in the colonisation of the isthmus that leads to Celannica. Trade and power await you.

I suggest you take them.

Sincerely
General Oaluoa Uye of the Oan Isles.

I have indeed heard of your expansion plan. I have in fact been briefed on your expansion, so much the possibility that it might hinder ours.

Our legislature has enough funds to support the building of our new port, though we appreciate your support greatly.

Thankfully, the area is uninhabited, so we do not need to use military force to colonize the area. Now, when investing in your “colonization,” then that seems a bit of a stretch. The land that you will take does not seem to be an isthmus, anyway.

Now, my government meticulously regulates the transfer of money to foreign governments. We have transferred a sum of 300,000 Karubles to your military to help with your colonization, with an additional sum of 200,000 Karubles contingent on 2.5% profits from your trade for the next year.

Thank you,
Maya Jaxacyl

Secretary of Regional Affairs
The Atlae Isles

The new port was going along great. Maya Jaxacyl sipped her coffee outside, surveying the construction of the port.

It had gone so well, that half of the construction crew originally delegated to the port were now on other infrastructure, like an extension of the subway system, and a bridge to the nearest island.

She read the newspaper when she opened her next briefing. Apparently there were people to the south of the site. Unlike those extremists in Atlaesia, these people (seeming to have some Asendavian customs for some reason) were quite supportive of the new port, and hoped to establish ties.

She grunted. She would talk to them in a few days.

Feb 7, 12017 (The date is important)

Maya Jaxacyl looked out over the huge construction project and saw the representatives coming to talk to her.

“Good morning!” she said honestly. “How do you do?”

“Great!” the one in the front said. “We heard that you were building a project, so we decided to check it out. We’re from the country of Neuatt.”

“So, how do you think of our project?” Maya asked.

“Oh, I think it will be very profitable.” the person replied. “Since it’s so far from the rest of your country, how about we help you manage your port for 1% of all the profits the port takes in?”

Maya smiled. “Deal.”

Now, that was the whole point of colonization. If only the extremists in Atlaesia could be so nice…
