Historical Summary:
The region is home to several different ethnic groups and species. Each forming their own unique culture in the areas they inhabit bounded only by language. They occasionally bonded together and united to fight off invaders. However as soon as the threat passes, they return to consistent warfare. This was the state of affairs for hundreds of years until the Alvan Empire invaded.
In the 1100’s the Alvan Empire successfully conquered the region and established semi-autonomy tributaries. This was concerned to be a more peaceful time in the region. Each petty duke slowly makes ties with each other. Waiting for the perfect chance to slaughter their masters. In 1254 when the Alvan Empire collapsed on its own weight. The petty dukes took their chance and put all the elves in the region to the sword.
In the 1600s the region was colonized by Norgsveldet, taking advantage of the chaos. A clan of vikings carved out a kingdom, in the current republic of Normand. They pushed the native orc population to the brink of extinction through wars and colonization efforts. To hold the other duchies under their rule, the colonial administrators were able to play the ethnic group against each other allowing Norgsveldet to act as judge and enforcer between the groups. Eventually got rid of the duchies and the aristocratic that was fighting back their efforts to exploit the rich resources of the land. Instead they formed each of the republics by building them around the leading ethnic group in the area. They also ensured noble and wealthy families wouldn’t ever be able to reach the powers they once had. Effective kneecapping any chance at coordinated revolutions.
In 1898 the republics gained their independence and the ethic tensions that have been building up erupted. Violence swept across the republics as state backed militias committed acts of genocide.
Nearly all state institutes collapsed, plague and famine struck the region. The situation rapidly became more and more desperate as time went on.
The only non-ethnic based group in the former republics was the democratic socialists. They desired to create a Socialist Republic Federation and unite the republics under the banner of communism. They focus on the shared language and history as a unifying force. However by the time of the great war, they only controlled a small sector of land (that’s currently known as the Federal Sector in current times) and an airfield.
The Socialist Federation dream was finally achieved when Norgesveldet backed the Socialists with air power, military equipment, food and medical supplies. Food and medicine being the most important as only the socialists could provide it at large scale for the general population. Building much public support from the acts of charity as well ending the famines and plagues in the regions they held.
After the socialist victory, a Norgsvelden royal figure championed the Federation and took care of each republic’s major social issues personally. Holding court and settling ethnic disputes that was ongoing for hundreds of years. Forever keeping the view of the monarchy in a positive memory.
The socialist Federation maintains a democratic parliament government framework. With a heavily centralized-Worker planning economy however still keeps a Monarchy as a figurehead of the government.
After the great war, a rebuilding took place. With assistance from their once colonial overlords, socialist party enacted several sweeping policies that guaranteed basic requirements for modern civilized life. The “bill of Workers’ Rights” provided quality housing, food, healthcare, education, jobs and equality for all. More recently internet access was added to the bill of social rights. If the bill is violated in some way such as housing quality isn’t up to the government regulations then an individual could sue the government for the failure. They created a judicial system that was able to handle and descale ethic tenseness between the republics. The Federation had several scandals but the Socialists still hold power. The socialists have used a mixture of pan-nationalism, love of the monarchy and the well stewardship of the Socialist party. Able to keep the economy growing and stable while keeping a solid popular rule despite the restrictions on freedom of speech and protests. The secret police is able to crack down nationalists groups/militia while allowing the tamer ones are allowed to be in parliament.
