Howdy and Greetings from the Dremlegate’s Office! First off before we get to the cabinet announcements, I’d like to take the time to thank the citizens who believed in my campaign. I’d also like to articulate some thoughts on this election and exactly where my headspace is in all of this.
So to start, to my supporters; a huge thank you comes from my heart to you. When I started playing this quirky little nation simulator at the ripe age of 12 (dw mods I never touched the forums for the last month I was playing before I turned 13), soon after I founded Dremaur in this big region we all know as The East Pacific. Early on I was terribly unaware of the scope of this game as how important this region would continue to be in my life.
I was first pulled into the social orbit of The East Pacific when my small RP region shut down to join a region called Madrigal. This region became my first gameplay region, and through it I was introduced to many TEPers, and the EPSA even helped me to refound Madrigal when some drama caused us to lose the founder. From this time on, I got to witness the heart and soul of TEP, and something in our changing political/social landscape has remained a comforting constant source of home.
Next, let’s address some criticisms that I received during the campaign and what I believe drove some people who would have supported me away. It was disclosed that within the Cabinet GC, I had started a poll to get the feel of the room on our current NDay commitments. But something that was lost in this context was my intent behind it: I guess I’m getting older, and I wasn’t the biggest fan of the name of our faction, ANAL. I found it funny the first event or two we went with it, but honestly the name is both hard to write with in a serious FA sense, without being like “HAHA BUTT”. But this context was not explained, in either the GC nor the election chats it was put it. And frankly this was a misstep for me, it was not my intent to say we would be splitting from our allies.
Next, let’s discuss NoName, and where I erred here. NoName on its surface is a returning TEP project, one that I remember being pretty fun. However, I let this familiarity and my busy schedule in real life at that point in time misguide me, and I did not proof things as much as I should given my position and weight of my decisions. I did not comprehend the sanction portion until after it was posted, and this was my fault for not scrutinizing it more.
Now, to the root of what these two criticisms resulted in. These both led to a misunderstanding and callout of my positions. I do not support MGC sanctions. I think that these sanctions have ran their course, and enforcing them now does more to harm their stated goal. If you’re intent is to snuff out raiders, understandable. You’ve created a social hegemony in this game that is severely isolated and drowns out parts of this game that don’t agree with you. This will always be to me, a bastardization of the same morals it supposedly exposes. Reform should always be part of the equation, and if your intent is to just make people leave the game, this is not enough to do so. When members of our region are targeted by these sanctions and have not raided or caused harm to anyone, what is the point? It’s time for this organization to take a good hard look at itself and figure out if this is really the best, they see this game getting.
I do not extend this opposition of MGC compact to its member regions. There are plenty of ways that TEP can interact with regions without wholesale adoption of these sanctions. TEP events will run with the expectation that the sanctions will never apply, and cooperative events with those regions can exist within this framework too.
