Historical Summary: Human presence on Jörmungandr’s Islands has been dated back to before the Mesolithic Period, approximately 10,000 years ago when the first humans crossed over during the Ice Age. These people are believed to have belong to the same group of people that the Älemsi tribe is descended from, the Taragai. These early humans soon became the indigenous people of Jörmungandr’s Islands known as the Yalŋuz culture, though are referred to now as the Kishiler people, meaning “People” in modern Tilimiz. While the Yalŋuz culture and subsequently the Kishiler people were nomadic hunter-gatherers, there is evidence suggesting that they have been herding Reindeer for approximately 2,000 to 3,000 years as well as Granahárland Ponies, a miniature horse breed that was used to carry small loads of resources such as pelts and peat (which is abundant and used as a fuel source in Granahárland).
By the late 8th Century, Norg sailers had been going North from Norgsveldet to the surrounding seas of Jörmungandr’s Islands as part of whaling trips, explorations, and some settlement attempts primarily on the isle of Berkney. Between the 9th and 10th century, a full scale ‘invasion’ of Jörmungandr’s Islands as thousands came to settle the islands, which in turn decimated the local Kishiler people. The early Norg settlers established a number of fishing and whaling settlements, and introduced agriculture to the islands with bere, potatoes, and turnips. They also later introduced sheep to the islands. By 1320, Norgsveltian rule over the islands became official.
Jörmungandr’s Islands were administrated as the northernmost colony of the Norgsveltian Crown, its fish industry and strategic location being the only thing of value. It wasn’t until 1947 that Jörmuneyjar was made a Crown State with the blessing of King Gustaf III of Norgsveldet. Following a referendum on 24th November 2025, the Crown State of Jörmuneyjar is set to become a independent Republic on the 25th December 2025. Prime Minister Jørundur I. Skógdrívsson has been designated as the future President of the Republic with elections to be held next year for Prime Minister.
