VICE PRESIDENT OJANT ASSASSINATED
During a presidential rally at Portmorski Central Park at 2:39 PM, Kayn Ojant was fatally shot by a sniper on a nearby roof. Medics declared her dead on the scene. This happened during a presidential rally being held by Aleksy Niezgoda, the current President of Korćetta, who is running for reelection. Authorities say that the sniper was aiming for Niezgoda, but Ojant got in the way at the last second and was the one who was hit by the shot.
This event comes weeks after Niezgoda declared his intent to run in the election with Ojant as his running mate once again. The pair had been making their way across the nation, starting in Dobrogost and going all the way to Portmorski for their final rally, which is where this assassination took place. Niezgoda has yet to comment on the situation, but he was visibly shaken by the event, which occurred only feet from where he stood.
A state funeral is being held for Ojant on January 9th, only days before the election. Officials say that this unfortunate event will boost the popularity of Niezgoda and help him to win the election in a landslide, others have declined to share their opinions, saying that “the vice-president has died, this is no time to talk politics, this is a time for mourning.” Many people have already taken to the streets to mourn the late vice-president, with people making a makeshift monument for her at Portmorski Central Park.
Łukasz Oleś, the mayor of Dobrogost, has already shared his intention to build a statue of Ojant outside of the capitol building in Ferdynand Park. This statue will depict Ojant planting a sapling, showing her love for the outdoors and advocating for environmental policies.
A funeral is also to be held in Auravas, Ojant’s home nation. Ojant was a prevalent parliament member in Auravas before moving to Korćetta and pursuing politics here. She was beloved and will be missed by all Korćettans for years to come.

GREEN PARTY FORMS COALITION WITH SOCIALISTS
Maryna Lewan, leader of the Green Party, has announced that the party has added the two socialist parties to its coalition, the Social Democratic Party and People’s Choice. This is a shock to many because the socialist parties have never been a part of the government. This could bring sweeping changes to the nation if Niezgoda plans to implement more policies that align with these parties, this comes not long after the assassination of Ojant.
Many people believe that with the assassination of Ojant, there was a switch flipped inside of Niezgoda’s mind, this could show some of the consequences of that action. Although people are shocked by this, most voters applaud Lewan for this decision. Since this change has happened, Niezgoda’s popularity has risen to a percentage he has not seen before. Although some of his more conservative voters do not agree with this coalition.
The popularity of the Social Democratic Party and People’s Party most likely comes from neighboring Zemeprievadai and Auravas. These parties have recently gained more popularity but have never been able to form a plurality in the legislature. With this new coalition everything will pass in favor of the Green Party. This may change the government for the better or for the worse, only time will tell.
Aleksy Niezgoda has yet to comment but is likely to within the next day. We will update this story as more information comes in.
FIRST THORIUM POWER PLANT OPENS IN KORĆETTA
Today, the first Korćettan thorium power plant officially opened in Klongaj. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by major scientists and politicians, including Aleksy Niezgoda. Speeches from Korćetta’s major scientific community preceded the ribbon-cutting by President Aleksy Niezgoda. This power plant has since started operations, with people around Klongaj seeing white steam rising from the cooling towers.
This power plant is said to be a leap in technological advancement. This is because thorium is rarely used in reactors despite research saying that it is better than uranium. Thorium is also better for the environment, being easier to mine and producing fewer waste products. The thorium itself also lasts longer than uranium does, producing much more power than a uranium power plant.
Korćettan scientists have said that this power plant is the next step in producing a greener Urth for everyone. They also hope that the success of this power plant will bring the use of thorium in power to other nations around the world. The president shared a similar sentiment, saying that this power plant firmly places Korćetta in the history books, before raising his fist in response to thunderous applause.
More on this new power plant if the story progresses.
