Lets magistrate!

Congratulations my fellow magisters! Now is time for all three of us to get magistering. Or something.

Firstly I think we’re supposed to have a Magisterial Consul and Gnidrah is looking for a Prime Minister. In terms of our legislative priorities I think building the government, either within the existing structure or with a new one, has to be the main one. Constitutional reform is part of that but it also has to involve a focus on recruiting as well.

Thoughts?

First of all, I think we should look at our current constitution, to know what should we do in this situation.

But frankly, I think our current problems are the following:

-Currently there are only 5-6 people, who reguraly visit this site, and even less, who actually post here.

-Most of the new people just make one post than dissappear.

-We need a leader, who is willing, experienced and most importantly active.

-There aren’t too much here, which should tempt the newcomers to stay. The RP is very closed, the lounge worth nothing, the government is the most boring thing, world assembly inactive.

I totally agree, but with some work I think we can do something about all of these things.

We’ll need to do some proper recruiting, rather than solely relying on new nations investigating the forum. You are right that retention is an issue, possibly more of an issue. It is a problem because it is a perennial chicken and the egg argument- you need members to generate activity but you need activity to get members. So those of us who are here need to post more frequently- sometimes quantity is needed as well as quality- both in the OOC areas (the “lounge”) and in the government and in RP. We need to try and not ‘lurk’- post a comment in a thread (like this one!) even if you don’t have a strong view or much to add- something is better than nothing. We also need to make everything more accessible to newcomers and develop a better way of welcoming members to the forum so that they can see where/how to get involved and that we encourage them to do so.

Well hopefully we’ll get that asap. We need to fill the PM position that Gnid announced, we might need him to clarify his intent but from my understanding it should be open to anyone who is a citizen but we (the MA) will vote on it. In terms of the MA we need to decide upon one of the three of us as Consul I guess, would you be up for that? I don’t know if Gnidrah wants to set a date for nominations to end for PM and for voting to take place or whether that would be down to the Consul but if we can get moving on that score it would be good.

I think I touched upon this above but this is important. I think it would be good to look at how we want the government as a whole (including the MA) to look and operate. Having a distinct feel will help with recruiting and I think we have that, it just needs firming up. It also means deciding on the constitutional situation and whether we want the MA/citizenship setup as is or not. Personally I think part of that is looking at the IC/OOC divide, I do think a wholly IC government and MA would be good, it would set us apart from other regions, it would define our proposition and I think it would give us something good to work with. I know others disagree on that front but it would be good to have that discussion.

Activity is a big problem here. It used to be a lot more than that but I think many people may have moved on IRL due to situations beyond anyone’s control. I personally am having to look for a new job after being laid off.

As for the region here, I don’t think there is anything you can do to make the RP more open as most don’t seem to care about this sort of thing any more from what I can tell.

Think positive! When you look at the resources avaliable to us as a feeder and the continued activity in some of the other Pacifics, there is no reason why we can’t turn things around, if we want to.

FYI: I’ve just updated the groups for you three elected to Magister. If you happen to have any issues with permissions or whatnot, just let me or one of the other admins know, and I’ll see about correcting them. Thanks.
