Liberation of Rygard

Off the coast of the Armed Republic of Rygard

The Vulshainian Confederate Ships (VCS) Fox Eye and the Knight’s Hammer were moving towards the island nation of Rygard.

Counter Admiral Ehjy Sicarialu of the VCS Fox Eye, an Admiral Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier, sighed for the seventh time.

“Counter Admiral Sicarialu, sir,” Warrant Officer Rin Rivakaponi said.

Walking over to the Warrant officer, he replied, “What is it, Warrant Officer Rivakaponi?”

“Sir, radar’s picked up some F-18s and F-22s being launched from Rygard.”

“Heading towards us?”

“Negative sir. They’re heading towards the Southern Yugoslavians.”

“Damn. Launch fighters now!”

Aboard the Knight’s hammer, an Admiral Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier, Sukhoi Su-33 Flanker-Ds were launched. Mikoyan MiG-31 Foxhounds and Flanker-Ds were also launched from the Fox Eye as well. In addition, Mil Mi-24 Hinds, Sukhoi Su-25 Rooks, and Tupolev Tu-22M Backfires were launched as well to keep the Rygardi from launching more fighters.

Senior Lieutenant Viktor “Dragon-Fox” Uresidjaservise and his WSO (Weapon Systems Operator) Senior Lieutenant Guabe “Sleuth” Bolsevesi spotted the Rygardi Raptors and Super Hornets. They were four Raptors and five Super Hornets. “Alright, you kits and pups, we got boogeys straight ahead. Lock and load, and get ready for some action!”

Viktor did a barrell roll as he evaded the shots fired by a Raptor. “Good lord, look out,” Sleuth cried out.

A Flanker was hit. The pilot didn’t have time to eject. “Shit! Take this you bastard!” Viktor’s Foxhound locked onto the Raptor. He pulled the trigger, launching one of his fighter’s Vympel R-73 missiles. He watched as the Raptor’s pilot tried to evade, but the missile struck it, causing the enemy craft to explode. The pilot ejected safely.

After shooting down one of the Super Hornets with her Mikoyan MiG-29K Fulcrum-D’s guns, Junior Lieutenant Riyna “Queen” Olerasteru spotted more fighters coming in. Raptors and Eagles. “We got more boogies coming in hot!”

Rygardi Port City of Esteroak, currently under attack by the Southern Yugoslavians

The nineteen armored and visored War Guards of the 56th War Guard Regiment marched to battle as M1 Abrams and M270 multiple missile launchers started to prepare for battle. The black-visored Rygardi soldiers of the 9th Infantry were armed with M-16s and other weapons.

Danorcius, Capital of the Armed Republic of Rygard

Inside the gargoyle decorated Office of the Republican Military Forces, located a few blocks away from the Presidential Stronghold, Secretary of Defense Constantine Atellus was briefed on their enemies’ attacks. “Major Enoch Tzarine, how is the battle with the Southern Yugoslavians?”

“Um…Not good, Secretary Atellus.”

“WHAT!?”

Frightened, the major explained. “The Southern Yugoslavian AC-130s are bombarding our forces. We have already lost half of the 212th Armoured Regiment! The Vulshainians have launched fighters to intercept our fighters! Where are the War Guards? We need them if the mongrels land troops!”

“Major Tzarine, if you don’t get into high gear, you may be removed by a Commissar!”

Gulping, Major Tzarine saluted and said, “Yes, sir, Secretary Atellus! It will be done!”

Rygardi Port City of Esteroak, currently underattack by the Southern Yugoslavians

Major Tzarine wiped the sweat off of his brow. Turning to First Lieutenant Reestheus Phrix, “Get ready for enemy troops!”

Saluting the major, Lieutenant Phrix quickly spread the order.

Rygardi Port City of Freyview, site of Vulshainian Drop Zone Fang-One

The port city of Freyview was not pleasing to the eyes of the Vulshainians who felt overwhelmed by the dark Gothic architecture of the buildings. Rygardi civilians watched as Hinds flew overhead, dropping Confederate soldiers. Many of the Rygardi gasped in shock and awe as most of them had never seen Lobos and Vulpines before. Many began to hide as Republican soldiers, their eyes hidden by their black visors opened fire on the Confederates.

“Take cover!” The Confederates took cover. One soldier got hit in the leg. One of her comrades pulled her to safety. The Hinds opened fire on the Rygardi soldiers.

A Hind exploded, crashing into a building. An AN/TWQ-1 Avenger had shot down the gunship with a Stinger missile. “Take out that vehicle,” Master-Sergeant Kekteremia Molesevist ordered as she fired her AK-74, killing two Rygardi soldiers.

A Lobo female Efreitor carrying a RPO-A Shmel rocket launcher nodded. A human and Vulpine Confederate soldiers covered her with their AKM assault rifles. She took aimed and fired. The rocket hit the Avenger, causing it to erupt in an explosion.

M113 APCs were driving at breakneck speed towards them. The Hinds opened fire with bullets and rockets, destroying two of the five APCs. One of the remaining three rammed into one of the destroyed APCs, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The APC fliped over, upside down. The Efreitor fired another rocket, destroying it as well. Thunderbolts and Backfires flew by overhead, heading towards the Salaror military base.

Salaror Military Base, just outside of Freyview

Lieutenant Colonel Mallear Akadatot listened to the radio chatter as his troops battled with the Vulshainian Confederates inside the port city of Freyview. Then, he heard the air raid sirens. “What?”

The anti-aircraft guns started firing. A Sukhoi Su-25 Rook was hit, forcing the pilot to eject. However, his plane crashed into a fuel tanker, causing a massive explosion. The Backfires and Rooks opened fire on the Rygardi soldiers.

Lt. Colonel Akadatot started biting his fingernails. An angry Commissar stormed up to him. “Commissar Afuov Zoceziiv, I can–” Akadatot was interrupted when the Commissar put a bullet in his head.

Before the former colonel’s body hit the ground, Commissar Zoceziiv screamed his orders for the Salaror 109th Regiments to get their acts together and fight back.

Esteroak, Rygard

105mm shells rained death on the city below. Buildings continued to explode and collapsed as the AC-130s halted fire for a moment to allow safe drops for the Marines. Ka-60 helicopters flew over the burning docks and harbor warehouses into the city. About a mile after flying over the harbor itself, the helicopters came to a stop, and the side doors opened. Ropes were tossed out the sides, and Marines began fast-roping from the aircraft.

On the coast, LCACs dropped their ramps, allowing for BMP-3s and Stryker infantry fighting vehicles to make landfall to combat the Rygardi infantry. The armored vehicles moved into the streets, and began firing on the Rygardi infantry and armor. The AC-130s were given permission to fire once again, and continued supporting the landing forces.

Offshore, cruise missiles were fired further inland at key facilities, including radar and communication facilities.

Location Withheld, Rygard

A group of seven Republican Guardsmen and seven Army Rangers touched down in Rygard, with the intent to capture the current government officials. The group removed their parachutes, and began making their way towards the capital. Within 36 hours of dropping, they were to be at least to the city limits in order to remain in front of the invasion force.

OOC: War Guards are very strong and can carry a large gatling gun with ease, although they are slowed down by the weight. Their armor also slows them down as well.

Esteroak, Rygard

The 15th and 21st Infantry Regiments began attacking the invaders inside the port city. A black and blood red uniformed Commissar screamed the order. “Kill these mongrels!”

War Guard Rex-142 saw through his silver visor as the Southern Yugoslavian soldiers landed. “You have invaded the Armed Republic of Rygard! DIE!” His voice sounded like a computer talking. He held the large M60 gatling gun and opened fire while two M1 Abrams tanks gave support.

Blackhawks and Hueys opened fire on the Ka-60 helicopters and soldiers.

Danorcius, Capital of the Armed Republic of Rygard

Councilor Evan Rickie Nielsen groaned as his car refused to start. He was already late for an emergency meeting with the other members of the Senatorial Council, and he just had to have the bad luck of having his car breaking down not far from the city limits. “Why me,” he thought. Getting out of his car after popping the hood of his car, he thought he saw something. “Ah good. Maybe I can ask them for help!” Waving his hands and shouting, Nielsen tried to get the strangers’ attention. “Hey, over here! Help! I am Councilor Evan Rickie Nielsen of the Rygardi Republican Senatorial Council!”

He didn’t realize that the people he was calling to were Southern Yugoslavian Republican Guardsmen and Army Rangers.

Esteroak, Rygard

The Marines took cover behind buildings and burned out vehicles.

“‘Doombringer’, do you read?” One of the commanders on the ground called one of the AC-130s.

“This is ‘Doombringer’. What’s going on?”

“We’ve got a War Guard just down the street from us, along with a couple of Abrams. Can you take them out for us?”

“Roger that, stay in cover. 105mm coming right up.”

The 105mm shell was launched towards the Abrams and the firing War Guard. Overhead, MiG-35s and Sukhoi T-50s provided more air support as air superiority was about to turn in Southern Yugoslavia’s favor.

Danorcius, Rygard

The commander of the group looked towards the Councilor. “Hold your fire. We just got our first government official.” The soldier beside him nodded. The commander motioned for the Army Rangers to move on his left side, while the Republican Guard would take the right “Go!” The group rushed the Councilor, weapons raised. “Hands on your head! Put your hands on your head!”

Danorcius, Rygard

Councilor Evan Rickie Nielsen gasped in shock, but he did want he was told to. “Listen, I’m not armed! I’m not armed! I got a wife and two kids!”

Nielsen tried to think of a way to keep himself from getting shot. The proverbial light bulb came on in his head. “Listen, I can help you! I know some of the important buildings and locations in the city! I can even get you into the city!”

Nielsen wondered if Larsen’s talk had gotten to him. He was stunned when he found out that his friend had fled Rygard after killing a Commissar. After that, Nielsen began to wonder if Larsen was right. Nielsen had not told his friend that he did know about some of the terrible things the government was doing. He had at first looked the other way, not wanting to endanger his family, but after Larsen had left, the Councilor started to feel ashame of his own nation. He was supposed to look after and protect the people of Rygard, but all he had done was ignore their plight. Maybe this was a chance to redeem himself.

Esteroak, Rygard

War Guard Rex-142 tried to get out of the way, but the shot struck the ground, destroying the tanks. The War Guard lay on the ground. Then, suddenly, he started to get back up. The armor was badly damaged and he was now missing his entire left arm and bleeding very badly, but he had been trained to fight no matter what. He grabbed a fallen Rygardi soldier’s M-16 rifle and started firing back.

More War Guards joined the attack, supported by regular soldiers. A few of them wore tails of foxes and wolves.

Humvees equipped with M2 Browning machine guns opened fire on the Southern Yugoslavians. M270 multiple missile launching vehicles launched rockets at the helicopters and AC-130s.

Danorcius, Rygard

Archibald Rivers was not happy, but he knew what to do. Opening a special compartment on his desk, he placed a skull-shaped key into the keyhole and turned it. Another compartment opened up, revealing a small keyboard. He pressed several keys and smiled. A computerized female voice told him, “Password is correct and accepted, Presidential Viceroy Archibald Rivers. Minuteman III ICBM Nuclear Missiles stored at Strongvale Military Base in the northern part of Byloch Coast City are primed and ready for launch. Awaiting targets.”

Rivers smiled. He then said, “Esteroak and Freyview, both Rygard.”

The computer processed the order and targets. It finished in a few seconds. Then, the computer answered, “Targets locked, Presidential Viceroy Archibald Rivers. Esteroak and Freyview. Do you have any other targets you want to select?”

“Yes. Yes, I do. Eldura, Vekaiyu. Kitsuniva, Vulshain. New Skopje D.S., Southern Yugoslavia.”

The computer processed the additional targets. “Thank you, Presidential Viceroy Archibald Rivers. Acquiring Targets. Esteroak, Rygard: Locked. Freyview, Rygard: Locked. Eldura, Vekaiyu: Locked. Kitsuniva, Vulshain: Locked. New Skopje D.S., Southern Yugoslavia: Locked. All Targets LOCKED. Please enter Launch Code and insert Launch Key.” Rivers entered the launch code. A third compartment opened and a small black box slide out from the side of the desk. He then inserted a cobra-shaped key into it and turned the key. The key was then swallowed by the box. All of the compartments closed. Then the computer voice spoke, but this time it was a man’s voice. “Launch Code: Accepted. Launch Key: Inserted. Launch Sequence has begun. Time of Launch: Thirty-five minutes from now.”

“Nothing can go wrong!” Rivers smiled and gave an evil laugh.

Rygardi Port City of Freyview

The Confederate troops moved through the city, supported by Hinds and Ka-60 helicopters. T-90s, T-80s, GAZ-2975 Tigrs, BTR-90s, BM-27 Uragans, BM-21 Grads, and other vehicles started to land in the city.

They met heavy resistance as they neared the road towards the Salaror Military Base.

Liberty City - Executive Command Center
Command Room
The Defense Department constructed the Executive Command Center in 2003 to provide the President with the ability to command Free Pacifican forces safely in the aftermath of a massive attack. Built a significant distance underground, the ECC provided the President with the ability to survive a nuclear attack on Liberty City, and the ability to lead the Federated Alliance for months after an attack without resupply.

President Henrik Kroidrik felt like he had spent a few months in the Executive Command Center. In reality, Kroidrik had lived there for only three weeks, the duration of the standoff with the Pax. But as he sat at the end of the long conference table in the nerve center of the ECC, the Command Room, he wished to be anywhere else.

Kroidrik abandoned that thought, though, when the conversation at the table paused. “Okay,” he said, “so, let me just get this straight. A nation halfway across the region from us – a nation with whom we’ve no prior contact – just declared war on us because we wouldn’t join them in a crusade against three other countries?”

The Secretary of International Relations nodded. “Yes, sir, that’s the gist of it. They expelled our 'Ambassador,” a volunteer without official protection, earlier today."

The President shook his head in wonder. “They expelled a volunteer? Talk about a bunch of nuts. Nonetheless, we should probably reimburse him for his expenses.”

Samantha McClellan, the Blue House Chief of Staff, cleared her throat. “Uh, sir, there is a bigger matter at hand here. We’re now at war.”

Kroidrik nodded. “Yes, that’s true. So…what now,” he asked, looking at McClellan? She looked, in turn, to the Commandant of the Armed Forces, a career military officer in his sixties.

The former military officer stood from his seat, midway down the conference table, and walked to the end of the table opposite the President. On the wall, behind the Commandant, was a large video monitor, which he treated like a chalk board. “The Rygardians do not pose a convention threat to us, given their distance, but they do possess a small nuclear arsenal. What’s more, so far as we can tell, that arsenal is active, and soon to be used.”

McClellan swore. “How soon?”

“We can’t be sure,” the Free Pacifican Intelligence Agency Director stated, “but, knowing the Rygardian leadership, it could be at any moment.”

“Given the immediacy of that threat,” the Commandant stated, “I’m recommending that the Battlestar Atlantis bombard the site. We’ll be temporarily vulnerable to the Pax, maybe for half an hour, but…we have no idea what the alternative may be. Additionally, I’d suggest immediately dispatching the third fleet to the area, so we can assist in military operations.”

Kroidrik looked to McClellan, who nodded, then nodded himself. “Make it happen.”

The Battlestar Atlantis was a ship created for distinction. The massive carrier class space vessel exceeded seventeen hundred meters in length, was designed to carry 250 space craft, and was severely automated so as to be crewed by only 2500 personnel despite its size. But the Atlantis achieved greater noteworthiness upon its completion, when it became the only Battlestar operated by a nation other than 1 Infinite Loop, and the largest spaceship in the previously non-existent Free Pacifican fleet.

For three weeks, the Atlantis had sat at high alert, a few hundred kilometers from a Pax battle fleet. But that inaction ended, suddenly. “Commander, I’ve got action orders straight from the ECC,” Lieutenant Sheila Donki, the Communications and Sensors officer, reported.

“They want us to attack?” The Commander asked, genuinely surprised.

“Yes, sir, but not the Pax.” She printed out the orders then handed them to him. “They’ve relayed coordinates of a site in Rygard, apparently a nuclear missile base. They want us to eliminate it, immediately.”

The Commander nodded. “Very well. Helmsman, bring the ship about. Tactical, prepare for multiple shots from main battery, targeted at the coordinates relayed by Lieutenant Donki. Put the ship’s battery at full intensity – this is a high-importance elimination.”

The Tactical Officer and Helmsman immediately sprung into action. Twenty-four minutes later, the Atlantis had turned around to face Earth. Over the following eight minutes, the massive vessel fired her main guns sixteen times, sending shells equivalent in magnitude to 2000 pound bombs railing towards the Rygardian nuclear missile base.

Strongvale Military Base, 100 miles north of Byloch Coast City

Colonel Kadis Borgia smiled as the Presidential Viceroy activated the launch codes. Her smile grew bigger when she saw his targets. “Sure, he’ll destroy two of our cities, but we can rebuild them. Our enemy: not so much.”

Her smile quickly faded when sirens went off, and the entire control room was bathed in flashing red lights. “What is going on? Lieutenant Obaxiv Fraka! What is going on? Why are alarms going off?”

The lieutenant was sweating. “Colonel Borgia! We under attack from above!”

“What? How?”

“I don’t–”

“Incoming!” A Warrant officer screamed as the Battlestar’s shots struck the base.

Exploding tanks, planes, jeeps, trucks, ammunition, and fuel transformed the base into a blazing ball of fire.

Danorcius, Rygard

“What do you mean that the base was destroyed?”

“I’m sorry sir, but the attack seems to have come from orbit.”

“Do we know who fired?”

“No Presidential Viceroy Rivers, but I think it may be the Free Pacific States.”

“Damn it!” He slammed the phone down, almost breaking it. The War Guards made no movement or sound at their leader’s outburst. “This can’t be happening! How could something like this go wrong?”

Earth Orbit – Battlestar Atlantis
Command and Control Room
“We’re confirming direct hits, sir,” the Tactical officer stated. A few moments later, he spoke again. “We seem to have obliterated most of the base. We’re detecting secondary explosions but nothing nuclear.”

The Commander sighed in relief. “Thank God for that. Helmsman, turn us back around. Here’s to hoping the Pax don’t take this opportunity to attack.”

Pacific Ocean – FPNS Independence
Admiral’s Bridge
The Free Pacific Naval Ship Independence set to sea during the presidency of Jackie Swaim. But the massive, Nimitz class nuclear aircraft carrier continued to serve in 2010, and in fact held the most significant combat record of any Free Pacifican naval vessel.

The commander of the Third Fleet, who called the Independence his home, was not surprised when he received orders to attack Rygard as such. The Federated Alliance assigned the Third Fleet to long-range patrol because of its record and he knew that in almost any non-Pax combat situation, his sailors would lead the way.

But the Fleet Admiral did admit surprise at the target. “Rygard? Are they even on the map?”

The Fleet Admiral’s adjunct, a Commander, nodded. “Yes, sir. They’re just North-East of Reziel. They’re barely within the region and we’ve no prior diplomatic contact.”

“Well, I guess we’ll be giving them a hell of a hello,” the Fleet Admiral stated, smiling. “Order the fleet to set sail, full speed, for Rygard. We’ll take up a position two hundred kilometers to the North-West of the country. Keep the flight at ready status until we arrive, in case they try anything.”

“Yes, sir.”

Aelshore Air Force Base, Rygard

The Aelshore Air Force Base picked up several ships approaching the island. “Commander Gulilliman, we have company,” an radar officer said.

“Launch fighters now.”

Seven F-22 Raptors, eight F-16s, and five F-18s were launched.

In addition, two Rygardi Ticonderoga class cruisers were launched as well to take care of the FPS ships.

Salaror Military Base

The Confederate soldiers finally broke through the Rygardi forces and were already attacking the Salaror Military Base. Many of the Rygardi were scared and finally turned on their superiors.

“Well, that’s something,” Master-Sergeant Kekteremia Molesevist said in surprise as the former Rygardi soldiers threw down their weapons and helmets, cheering the Vulshainians.

Eastrovia
Imperial Palace - Office of Empress Jung

“While I am saddened by the loss of Mr. Mahan, but he did complete his mission before this event, and his family will be taken care if well. In the meantime we should take some time in assistance to this invasion going on currently. While I will not allow us to invade, we can show some force. I would like to thank all of you for meeting with me on such short notice. Jung out.” she tapped a few commands on the screen and the screen went blank as it cut off.

Aerospace Navy Defense Command - Central Command

“I am not worried about these nuclear devices, but our scans indicate that FPS is moving what looks to be a strike on the compound. Lets have a few ships waiting for them when they come back to cover their back with the Pax right on the door step. Also I would like to move a ship or two over the capitol of Rygard to scare them a little,” Admiral Juneburg spoke as she was reviewing one of the many PADDs of information on her desk, “and true they will take a few little hits but nothing our ships can’t handle.”

As she was speaking the ships were dispatched to cover FPS and to Danorcius, capitol of Rygard to hover above the city.

Danorcius, Rygard

The people of Danorcius looked up into the skies as they watched in awe at the the East Malaysian ships that hovered above their. Secretary of Defense, Constantine Atellus wasn’t happy, and neither was the Presidential Viceroy. “I understand, sir. I’ll do something right away.”

As Rivers hung up, Secretary Atellus activated the Prototypes.

Three prototype laser cannons, designed in case of attack were primed and ready to fire. The FPS attack on the Strongvale base had come too quickly for them to use the cannons, but now they could be used. “Fire,” he ordered to the soldiers manning the cannons.

The three large prototype laser cannons glowed a sickly yellow color before firing. The blasts struck several of the ships.

Eriborough, Rygard

Secretary of Internal Affairs, Quintilla Ephrael was scared out of her wits. “First the Vulshainians and Southern Yugoslavians. Then, the FPS, and now the East Malaysians! This isn’t right! We should be winning!”

She was being driven away from Eriborough to the capital, in the hopes of escaping capture by the enemy.

Eriborough wasn’t that far from Salaror Military Base. Suddenly, stray rockets struck the ground ahead of the ground in front of the limo. The driver lost control and ran into a dead tree.

Cursing under her breath, she started yelling at the driver. He was dead. Sweating, she grabbed her briefcase and ran out of the car. She had to get away and fast. Suddenly, she thought she saw a helicopter. Smiling, she started waving at it to pick her up. The pilot must have seen her, as it slowly hovered a few inches off the ground. One of the soldiers opened the side-doors for her as she hopped in. She didn’t noticed that it was a Hind gunship.

Breathing a sigh of relief, she said, “Thank you for saving me. We must hurry to the capital. I have to released some more propaganda demonizing the leaders of those overgrown walking rugs.”

“Who you calling a rug, ma’am?”

“How dare you–” She stopped mid-sentence when she saw the soldier. He wasn’t human. He was a Confederate Vulpine. The pilot was a Vulshainian Lobo. There were no humans aboard. “Oh no.”

The Vulpine continued to glare at her. “Hi,” she weakly said.

“Hello,” the Vulpine said with a fang-filled smile. The other Lobos and Vulpines said hello with fang-filled smiles too.

“What the hell was that?!” Yelled Captain McFarland over the new alarms going off as the ship shook and caused an overload in one of the conduits.

“Unknown! As they hit our shields, they absorbed the power, it will take several hits before I can compensate and locate but only one at a time though. Primitive yet effective, they could have gotten parts for these from southern East Malaysia based on that.” Spoke the tactical officer as the ship jolted again.

“Bottom shields down to 93%,” reported in the operations officer.

“Understood. Helm: evasive maneuvers, try and make sure they don’t hit the same place at once. Rotate the shields in a recharge pattern as needed. And get me command, this was unexpected, and concerning.” McFarland spoke as he was looking at his side console as the ship jolted again with the lights dimming very slightly.

Esteroak, Rygard

The historical Prison Center, a large imposing and sinister looking prison, was located just a hop, skip, and jump away from the city of Esteroak. It hadn’t been used for years. Or was it?

Inside, was a crystal blue-eyed Vulpine female with fur patterned very similar to the Confederate Premier Cecilia Rainard. She had red fur as well as three silver stripes on her face. She had medium length dark brown hair. She was naked. She was using her long tail as a pillow as she slept on a hard stone bed. The Prison Center shook. She yelled in lisped English, “Hey! Keep it down! I’m trying to sleep!”

Rygardi soldiers cursed as they armed themselves. “Damn it! Why do we have to stay here and guard her?”

“I don’t know, but I wonder…” He grinned as he opened the cell. He started unzip his pants.

The Vulpine sprung into action, kicking the man between the legs. As he yelled in pain, she slammed a sharp chicken bone into his head. Grabbing his gun, she opened fire on the other guards, killing them. Spitting on the dead guard, she said in Unonian, “Try and rape me? I don’t think so.” She walked out of the Prison Center, still naked. She coked the M-16. “I’m cold. I’m hungry. Not to mention, I really, really mad!”

Danorcius, Rygard

The laser cannons continued to fire, but the Secretary of Defense wasn’t pleased. “Why haven’t the East Malaysian ships been destroyed or driven off yet?”

“Sir, I don’t know,” a soldier said.

“We bought those parts from smugglers and arms dealers who got them from southern East Malaysia. I want you to increase the cannons’ energy levels! NOW!”

“But sir, if we do that…”

“DO IT!”

The cannons increased their energy levels, their blasts becoming more powerful. However, the energy cores began to get brighter.

The Third Fleet set a course for Rygard immediately after the Battlestar Atlantis attacked the island. Per standard procedure, the force maintained a high alert status, just in case Rygard attempted a long-range attack. Per that alert status, an E-3 Sentry aircraft carrying an Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) remained on constant patrol around the fleet.

That E-3 detected the Rygardian strike force before it came within 500 kilometers of the Free Pacifican vessels. The Third Fleet immediately sounded battle stations, scrambled an interceptor force of F-18 Hornets, and also scrambled all other capable aircraft to avoid damage.

But the fleet expected the Free Pacifican aircraft to engage to Rygardians only if the enemy came within 50 kilometers of the fleet. And the Free Pacificans did not intend to let that happen. While the Independence scrambled fighters, four ships in the fleet loaded missiles.

Those ships, a guided missile cruiser and three guided missile destroyers, each carried a MK 42 VLS missile launcher, a system capable of throwing 8-12 missiles per minute at the enemy. And each of those ships carried a considerable number of RIM-67 long-range surface to air guided missiles, deadly devices capable of attacking a target anywhere from 65 kilometers to 190 kilometers away.

The four missile ships launched several dozen RIM-67 missiles at the Rygardian aircraft the moment they came within 200 kilometers of the fleet. They continued firing those missiles until the Rygardians came within 65 miles of the fleet, when the Free Pacifican air wing attacked the fighters.

OOC: It’d take awhile for ships to get in range, so, I’ll touch on that later.

Danorcius, Rygard

One of the Rangers heard the radio broadcast. “Shit! NBC suit - Wikipedia on, now! We’ve got a possible chemical strike inbound on the capital.” The commander ziptied the Councilor’s hands together, and took out a gas mask. He placed it on the Councilor, and proceeded to put on his CBRN. After a few minutes, the team was wearing the suits. The commander went back to the Councilor and held up a picture of the president. “Do you know where this man is?”

Danorcius, Rygard

Nelsen nodded. “Yes. He’s in the Presidential Stronghold, but you can never even it. Hell, even I can’t enter it! Only the members of his Cabinet can enter, but they will never help you. However, I might be able to help you capture the Cabinet members at least. The only problem is getting you inside. Hm…I might able to distract the guards, while you slip inside. One problem: my car won’t start. Fix it, and I’ll distract the guards, giving you a chance to get in. I want to see Rivers fall just as much as you do. Once inside, you have to stick to the shadows. And…”

The sound of the East Malaysian ships hovering overhead could be heard, and the ships could be seen hovering over the capital. Energy beams shot out from inside the capital, hitting the ships. “Oh no! They’re using the Energy Cannon Prototypes! Damn it! And it looks like they on full power! Damn!” Turning back around, he told the Southern Yugoslavians. “Listen, I was one of the Councilors who voted against the building of those cannons. From what I can remember, when the energy cores build up enough energy, they start to overload. When they overload, well, let’s just say, the explosion will literrally tear away the ozone layer, not to mention level everything in a 500 thousand mile radius. And that’s just one cannon. Imagine what three cannons overloading and exploding will do. We have to stop those cannons!”

Esteroak, Rygard

The naked Vulpine vixen saw some Southern Yugoslavians pinned down by a squad of Rygardi soldiers. “HEY! Eat lead, SOBs!” She opened fire, mowing down the Rygardi. She placed the M-16 behind her head, smiling at the Southern Yugoslavians. “What’s wrong? Never seen an angry vulpine before?”

E.A.N. Lost Woods

“I’m staring to get a ping to the energy, they appear to have increased the power. I’ve almost found one! And the Dunson has almost found another!” Yelled the tactical officer over an explosion at a nearby station.

“Good! I don’t know how much we can take being setting ducks, but we have our new orders,” McFarland spoke as one of the fully powered devices hit the ship and more alarms started to go off as the bridge power flickered out for a second.

“Bottom shield generators have absorbed that last jolt but it blew the generators, they are in a recharge cycle,” the operations officer spoke as she was working her console, “I am rotating the shields.”

“Evacuate nonessential areas of the ship, reroute that power to the shields. Standby auxiliary and backup power to activate if main power goes offline!” McFarland announced as her was working his console looking at damage reports.

“I may have located one, but we’re going to have to maneuver into a position where our shields have been weakened from too much strain,” the tactical officer was saying when the ship was hit by two of the weapons at once knocking everyone to the floor.

McFarland grabbed the side of his chair and pulled himself back up into, “Report!” He yelled over many alarms, sparks, and smoke.

“They have breached our haul, bottom generators are starting to come back online, and the Dunson has extended their shields to cover us until we regain our own,” the operations officer spoke wiping blood off her face.

“I have one!” The tactical officer spoke with excitement in his voice, but McFarland cut his off before he could finish.

“One is not enough, locate the nearest power plant and track its energy. If you can’t find them then, blow the damn power plant up!” Ordered McFarland as you could see the anger building up on his face.

Danorcius, Rygard

The three energy cannons suddenly stopped firing.

“Why have you stopped firing!?”

“I’m sorry sir, but the cooling coils seemed to have malfunctioned. We have some extra ones and are changing them now. Give us twenty…I mean ten minutes, and we will have the cannons firing at fully capacity.”

“You better, for your sake!”

“Yes…sir!”

“What?”

“YES SIR!”

“Good. Make it happen!”

Rygardi Hammerhead Fleet, 1,000 miles from FPS fleet on-route to Rygard

Admiral Elatas Relebyok received the orders. He was commander of the RRS Nimitz-class aircraft carrier Dragon’s Sword. There was another aircraft carrier, Calypso’s Doom. Two destroyers and two cruisers also were with them. “Launch the fighters now,” he ordered. “We are to attack the FPS fleet.”

Eagles, Raptors, and Super Hornets launched towards the FPS fleet, preparing to attack the enemy of Rygard.

VSS Iliri-Class Missile Cruiser, neutral waters

“Admiral, I have orders direct from Premiere Levinile herself: do not fire unless given absolute clearance to do so.”

The admiral removed his cap and sat down in front of the screen. “Shall we prime our missiles for attack?”

“Surface to surface HN-91SRN and HN-94PPC. Be sure both types are primed and ready to fire on a moment’s notice. I suspect it will not be needed, especially with the worries of mutual assured destruction rampant and the presence of forces supplied by Free Pacific States and East Malaysia, but one cannot be too careful. The Premiere has informed us she received a tip from an email regarding the situation in Rygard.”

“Very well. What about nuclear-capable HN’s?”

“Won’t be necessary. The heavy payload types can be used to knock out large areas, and the cyanogen chloride types of course can be used to remove populations. We are sufficiently covered, though again, the use of such things, especially with other nations around the area, are slim at best.”

“Of course,” the admiral replied.
