Background:
The Empire of Ni-Rao has existed in some form since at least 450 BC. Originating from the region of central Gondwana between what are now called the Sea of Gondwana and the Gulf of Northwest Gondwana, Ni-Rao expanded over the course of time to reach as far north as what is now Bana and approached the area that is now Iassath to its west. One of the oldest civilizations of felines in Gondwana, Ni-Rao has long held itself as a conservator of Feline culture and has resisted foreign influence and outside intervention. Ni-Rao reached a territorial peak in the late 15th century CE. However, competition on multiple fronts from such places as Bana, Iassath, and what would later become the Tavari Union in its frontier regions, as well as an outbreak of disease in the core of the country, caused Ni-Rao to shrink back to its most ancient holdings. In the 18th century, a movement of religious refugees would call themselves New Ranites and settle just south of the Tavari.
In the modern day, Ni-Rao tends to remain on the isolationist side, although it does have a valuable resource in controlling part of the shipping channel between the two gulfs of the Gondwanan continent. Ni-Rao is proud of its ancient history, and maintains the monarchy that has been dated to, at the latest possible date of inception, the first century CE. However, in the modern era Ni-Rao is a constitutional monarchy, with most governing power held by a Prime Minister and a popularly-elected Parliament. Across Ni-Rao are ancient temples, many of them in a distinctive pyramid style, that are often very close to major population centers that have hosted Raonite civilization for thousands of years. Raonites are known to be proud and aloof, although as of late, tourism is an increasingly important part of the economy. As well as typical jungle-like resources such as lumber, paper goods, rubber, fruits, and nuts, there are diamonds and precious metals in the country, and with relatively lax labor laws, cheap manufacturing in industries such as textiles, semiconductors and computer equipment, and toys and other small goods.
OOC FULL DISCLOSURE: Ni-Rao as being claimed in this post is a single country consisting of both gray areas marked in the map. I will have an RP in which the Acronian Empire attempts to colonize and integrate Ni-Rao into the Empire and succeed in one area of the country but fail to absorb Ni-Rao in its entirety. I expect the time period of this RP to be in the 1700s. The eventual Acronian-controlled region will be what is colored lighter gray in the above map.
