Hello Magisterium. I am here to renominate @Libertanny to the Praesidium. Libertanny mistakenly CTEd, so they lost their Vizier status. I wholeheartedly believe that this was an honest mistake and I will not happen again. So I hereby nominate Libertanny as a Vizier once again.
As I said in my Discord post, I am heavily against this. Even if it was a mistake, a Vizier of all people CTE-ing doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in that person remaining a Vizier.
Seconded
I would encourage all Magisters to vote in favor of this nomination.
The concern regarding CTEing is very understandable, IMO. It is true that a key job, perhaps one of the most key jobs, of a Vizier is to gather influence and endorsements. The only way to do that involves logging in regularly (at least once a week just to acrue influence).
However, I do believe it is important that we consider all factors at play. The main thing to recall is that the people whom we choose as Viziers are serving a long-term job that requires utmost loyalty to TEP. Every Vizier is carefully chosen and every Vizier is very important for that reason.
Being in a long-term job such as this also requires going through change. People who may very well still be ultra-invested in TEP but may no longer check the site as often at some point, so while theyre willing to do whatever it takes when a security situation occurs, they may otherwise forget to log in due to daily life being what it is during “peace time”. This doesnt mean theyre hogging the post of Vizier, but rather simply means as time goes on one may check in on Discord every so often but forget to look at on-site NS. Its not particularly hard to do if youve been playing the game for years and everything you do is mostly off-site.
I dont think a single CTE should rob the Praesidium of Lib’s experienced perspective. CTE is a likely risk with the long-term length of Vizier service, but I caution tying CTEing with aasuming said person has no will to serve as Vizier well. As Marr and Stool have shown, CTEing is a correctable mistake - and one that Lib can certainly correct, given his post/explanation on the TEP Discord. If one has a series of CTE’s close together then I agree that person is likely not fit to be Vizier, but in this situation we must balance the ideals of having Viziers who do their job (endotarting, influence gathering) with keeping the Praesidihm stocked with as many long term TEPers as reasonable.
I therefore am in favor of this nomination and will encourage my fellow Magisters to vote in favor.
I’m starting to sour on other Viziers CTEing.
We’ve had intensive discussions since January about regional security and maintaining our endocount, and received significant criticism from the Magisterium when proposing a cap they thought was too low. Multiple Viziers who, at the time, were not far over the cap / were under the cap, were (wrongly) accused of trying to force members of the region beneath them under a new cap rather than doing their part to endotart.
The Viziers are under scrutiny and the optics of ramming this vote through after one of us once again CTEs, regardless of the explanation (we still need to be endorsing people back, even if we’re not actively tarting) are poor. The same argument used against the Viziers when people thought the new cap was voted on too hastily could apply now, but this time we don’t have the excuse of precedent.
After further consideration of Lib’s circumstances, I’m changing my vote to abstain.
I maintain my previously-voiced concerns.
