Historical Summary: For centuries, the Crencello Arc has served as a mixing pot of the surrounding cultural, political, and ethnic groups in East Yasteria. The first recorded evidence of sentient life on the isles dates back over 20,000 years by early humans and nekomimi. Following the mass migration of the Masakomi, the Crencello Arc became dominated by Kodekesia from 2,000 BCE to 750 BCE. The Marenian people eventually rose to power in the region starting around 500 BCE. One such Marenian group, the Norvians, became the most dominant force and the Crencello Arc served as one of their first targets for raids and conquests. Norvian dominance would continue into the Common Era and it was in North Crencello that the Juzalths, one of the descendants of the Norvians, strengthened their hold in the region around 1000 CE.
In the 12th century, North Crencello fell under the control of the Fortunan Empire and would remain so for the next five centuries. North Crencello would serve as a jumping point for further Fortunan expansion into the rest of the Arc and mainland Yasteria. It also became a major trading hub where goods and people travelling from the mainland to the Fortunan Archipelago pass through. This was also when the first felines arrived to the islands, either willingly or unwillingly. Fortunan control over the islands ended in the 17th century after the Fortunan Empire collapsed. North Crencello would be independent for a short period of time before the arrival of Packilvania under the Demirite Dynasty in the 18th century.
The Crencello Arc would remain under the domain of Packilvania into the 20th century, even after the Packilvanian People’s Republic was formed. Discontent with the ruling government and inspired by Sorentavia’s successful independence during the Great War, separatist movements popped up across the Crencello Arc with some of the first demonstrations occurring in North Crencello. In the 1970s, Sorentavia became invested in the revolutionary activities and began actively supporting opposition groups such as the Crencello Revolutionary Movement (CRM). These actions would kick off the Crescent Arc War, or Crencello Arc War, during which Packilvania attempted to topple the Sorentavian government but ultimately failed. Emboldened by this victory, the CRM formally declared their independence from Packilvania in 1974 and allowed for Sorentavia to temporarily occupy northern Crencello. Unable to continue the conflict, Packilvania agrees to a ceasefire and eventually a withdrawal from much of the Crencello Arc.
In 1975, the CRM held a plebiscite within the North Crencello states on whether or not they should form a union with Sorentavia. It would be decided in a rather close vote that North Crencello would form its own independent state, eventually forming the Republic of North Crencello. The exhilaration of successfully becoming independent would be short lived and the remaining decades of the 20th century were filled with coups and coup attempts. In the present day, the existing government is now overseeing a delicate nation filled with discontent state officials and Claritist extremist groups whose actions have the potential to bring an unwanted neighbor into the fray.
