OF's Platform for Chancellor

Hello,

Elections are funny. They tend to be tedious or over dramatic, though usually both. Regardless, they always give the electorate a chance to review the past term and contemplate the future. This election is rather…humorous. Only three voters–you can’t deny every vote counts, eh? Well, let’s get down to business…

There are literally years of articles and essays in the University, and thanks to Bach, they are neatly organized. Personally, I’d like to see a comparison done of “Pump’s Views On Activity In NationStates (2006)” and Todd’s " “THE NECESSITY OF CHAOS; ORDER AND DISORDER IN NATIONSTATES (2012).” Moreover, the tremendous work put forth in the two degree programs was rewarded with tremendous interest. This proved fatal for the programs, which were converted into compendiums.

Needless to say, you three know this. You three are also the people who have chosen to commit themselves to the University. So I want to present you my own preference for the future of EPU.

First, here are EPU’s inaugural words:

— Begin quote from ____

"Too often in NationStates, we players forget our roots. We don’t remember what it was like to be unfamiliar with concepts such as endorsing, the World Assembly, and the handling of daily issues in our nation(s). We seem to forget the importance essential in-game actions such as raiding, defending, imperialism, and coups, often casting them off as everyday occurrences. We conveniently forget how confusing the game as a whole can be for the new player.

As Holders of Knowledge, it is our duty and will to extend our knowledge across our region so it may glow, like a fire, and forever burn, never to be extinguished by the winds of the unknown. Under our guidance, and both the talent and dedication of our students, we will kindle this fire and maintain it through good times and bad. The flame of The East Pacific must never die.

The students of our classes are among the most talented, dedicated, and quick individuals the game has to offer. They are to remain as such, and be guided by the Holders in the light of truth.

I wish to open the first ever University of The East Pacific. This university is to be haven of knowledge and learning, always enriched, and always non-biased."

— End quote

Longwinded for my purposes, but nonetheless relevant. In fact, even Frak, in his “Cosmopolitans Are Regionwhores (2012),” recognizes what Todd outlined above: the need to educate one’s region.

— Begin quote from ____

He…does not educate his residents…

— End quote

This is our mission, to educate The East Pacific. I hope you three agree. The only real questions are “what to teach?” and “how to teach it?”

Aelitia, your post http://theeastpacific.com/single/?p=8009924&t=5174719 should be the starting place. Let’s make it our quest to prepare new citizens to take the mantle of Magister, Ambassador, Minister, Arbiter, Soldier and especially Roleplayer. I literally mean EPU should have paths towards these goals, and not just theory and reading.

How do we do this? Bach’s “http://theeastpacific.com/topic/5173699/1/#new,” of the Certificate in Nationstates and East Pacifican Basics program, was a clear success and undoubtedly set many on the right path towards activity. I want to follow this theme.

I do not think the University should stop at teaching actual gameplay or rely solely on interaction to teach it. Someone could spend hours reading the library, and as I said http://theeastpacific.com/single/?p=8013506&t=5177538, we should use seminars and research projects to exchange knowledge. I predict that as the University’s success grows in TEP, other regions will visit its halls and we’ll have a natural overflow of debate and research.

There are also many more ideas that have been kicked around from time to time. Some have suggested a “practice” assembly for aspiring magisters, and I myself have suggested a mentor program for veterans to buddy up with new citizens in order to show them the ropes and get them involved. The University is uniquely positioned to put these ideas into practice.

In conclusion, let’s prepare new citizens for leadership, and do so by giving them things to do, especially things requiring interaction with the Holders and their fellow students. I’ve trained many people in Atrigeas and the NS Republic. They enjoyed learning because as they learned, they were given the chance to impact their region.

Also shiny.

If I can put in a word, as a graduate of Bach introduction course I believe interactive module learning is very useful in learning the ways of this great region and will defiantly help others gain more knowledge. The more ways to have fun and be productive is always the best way to go.

You are more than welcome to comment–and I’m glad you like my platform. The more people that provide input, the more informed the Holders will be. There will be many decisions to make, and the Board will need more than this election to decide what happens.
