General Assembly Resolution #180 “A Decriminalization of Suicide” (Category: Civil Rights; Strength: Significant) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
Concurring with the target that suicide is “a common response to depression or a symptom of mental illness,”
Therefore appalled that the resolution allows insuring member states to prevent grieving beneficiaries of suicide victims from getting life insurance coverage of their own, increasing risk exposure for people during a vulnerable time in their lives, and potentially propagating generational disparities,
Knowing that, even if members contend that the resolution refers to life insurance payouts, such a clause would impose additional economic duress to the loved ones of suicide victims during their grief process,
Hereby repeals “A Decriminalization of Suicide”.
