General Assembly Resolution #531 “Tariffs and Trade Convention” (Category: Free Trade; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
The World Assembly,
Observing that the resolution oversteps the World Assembly’s authority in the matters of trade, through allowing the WA to directly dictate trade and customs, thus taking away member states right to determine economic policies among their citizens,
Concerned that the resolution unfairly targets small and/or developing countries by banning those countries from instituting higher tariffs on particular industries to protect domestic industries in their infancy, with minimal exemptions for members under the WA law,
Confused as to the requirement for a quota to be established in order for import licenses to be put in place, serving no purpose but to force limits on trade between nations despite the two being independent regulatory restrictions, resulting in unnecessary restrictions upon trade
Troubled by the forceful installment of a normal market pricing mode by limiting where tariffs can be placed, harming members reliant on tariffs for revenue leading to deficits, cuts in essential services, etc,
Noting that the text does not state what the normal market pricing is intended to be, nor provides a way to determine an objective normal price, nor delegating power to do so to any institution,
Hereby repeals GAR #531, Tariffs And Trade Convention.
