Ese Ulua is the Defender of the Oan Isles. That means he is the head of government and the head of state of the Oan Isles and the commander in chief of the Defence Forces of the Oan Isles.

He is 77 years old. He is 1,5 metres tall. He is of ethnic Oan descent. He belongs to the Iano tribe and is in fact its Chief. By extension he is the Paramount Leader of the Oan ethnic group. His father is the former Chief Soalua Ulua and his mother is a princess from the Waweyu tribal group. He is the oldest of 6 children. He studied at Oahua Primary and Secondary School in La Rochelle. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at the University of La Rochelle.

He served in the Defence Forces for 20 years and rose to rank of Lieutenant in the Navy of the Oan Isles. He pursued a career in politics and became the Chief Executive Officer of the National Maritime Administration. He was a Member of the National Assembly for South La Rochelle for several years. He was a member of the Democratic Congress Party.

He was elected in 2010 to succeed Jonathan Dunes with a 59% majority to the office of Defender of the Oan Isles. He was reelected, unopposed by any major candidate, theough a 68% majority in 2015.

He is regarded as relaxed, classy and wise. He laughs often. He has a deep booming voice and a very operatic style of address. He is a hands off leader who gives the Cabinet the freedom to shape policy and run the affairs of state. He is focused on cultural, science and education issues. He is moderate in his political and economic views and is an advocate of the status quo.

He has a son, Hua Ulua (44), and a wife Laliana Jane Ulua (20). He and his wife currently reside in the penthouse in the Defender’s Official Residence.
