A message to The Serenitech Corporatocracy

Greetings from the Pax Draconica. We would like to know if your organization would be open to a barter. We may have a way for us both to benefit greatly. See the attached maps and documents. We await your reply.

Map shows a small plot of land south of Veakyu, just east of the Allegheny border.
*Proposed leased land to The Serenitech Corporatocracy in exchange for services rendered indefinitely. Proposed exchange of marketing services for the Hive to be designed and performed by The Serenitech Corporatocracy. Proposed acting as a buffer market state between the Pax Draconica and the Veakyun Union. (There are currently no normal trade relations between the two unions.)

Tall glass buildings in the distance, and industrial areas are passing behind the window of a limo. Typical view in this part of Pittsburgh, Allegheny. A man wearing “The end is nigh” plate is screaming something at the crossroad, his voice muffled by the thick glass window of a car in which Iwona Lee was sitting. ‘Prob’ly he believes that his hoboesque prophecy is about Packilvania’ she thinks to herself.

“So are what do you think?” said a man sitting next to her, pulling out a cigarette.
“I think you don’t want to light that thing in here, unless you want to walk the rest of the way, Jay”. Cigarette disappeared back in the case.
“But I also think that is a good idea to make a deal with Pax”.
The blond man looked puzzled “Are you sure? Wouldn’t it make us a bad guys? Most of leaders are in outrage regarding the whole Pax-Allegheny situation, and we would be doing business with them.”
“Look at them.” said Iwona, looking out the window. “These people don’t care. Their are too busy going to their jobs, concentrating on their work, to care. I like them, Alleghenians are probably the only people on Urth, to not only understand, but also agree with our way of thinking. They are more interested in job and prosperity, then anything else. I respect them a lot.”
“But those are not the leaders”.
“I know.” She sighed.
“But I don’t think we have anything to worry. We will state that the land lease is regarding something else, or that we were actually in talks regarding this with Pack even from before the crisis. Besides, Vekaiyu always complains that they do not want the border with Pax, so they should be content with shortening the length of the border. Besides what are they gonna do, ban Serenitech? That would be like banning bread.”
“They can put a fine on us”.
“Why? For doing business? That would harm them more then it would us - nothing says free market, like fining companies, nah? Besides, we could really get rich as a buffer market.”
Iwona turns to the blond suit, who keeps playing with a pack of cigarettes.
“We will be stopping soon, you will hold out. Anyway, what is happening with your business?”
“We are still waiting for the answer from VU regarding our offer.”
“Oh, so thats why you were worried about this deal with Pax. Don’t worry, we will not publish publicly it, for a few days at least.”

She checks the mail on her AR glasses and decides to send it, as the Limo stops in front of a tall skyscraper with Serenitech logo, carved into a large granite block next to the entrance.

Executive Offices

Meanwhile, a meeting has convened in the office of Chancellor Eleanor Fox. President Isaac Wood, Information Commissioner Ryan Busch, and Foreign Affairs Commissioner Charlotte Stuart are in attendance.

The recently founded Information Commission is officially designated as the Confederation’s media wing. They are tasked with fact-checking media and disseminating government announcements. It has been rumored since their founding that they also serve as the Confederation’s intelligence agency in tandem with the Defense Commission. It is true in this case that rumors speak more truth than public discourse does.

Chancellor Fox: It is my understanding that you have some vital information for us, Mr. Busch.

Commissioner Busch: Yes. My man in Serenitech has gotten back to me. Pax has approached them with a proposition to create a buffer state between Pax and Veakyu, just off the Allegheny border.

Stuart’s face clouds. Although the borders of the Confederation have only recently opened, the recent prominence of Serenitech in the capitalist powers have quickly become a point of concern.

Commissioner Stuart: This will not be good for our relations with any parties involved should it come to pass. How likely do you think this deal is to be signed?

Busch: The possibility that it will fail is slim to non-existent.

President Wood: The borders are still closed to foreign corporations. They’re nearly a world away. The Congress would have no justification in approving action of any kind.

Busch: Maybe so, but they already have a presence in Xoriet. If they are courting Pax and Veakyu, who’s to say their avarice won’t bring them to Severisen? Suppose they form a coalition to force open our borders?

Fox sighs and closes her eyes in thought for a moment.

Fox: There is little we can do at this venture. Continue to monitor Serenitech’s activities, Mr. Busch. Fill us in when you have more information.
