Welcome
Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!
Well the El Farto Dayo is here, and its now 2011! Hope you had a wonderful El Farto Dayo!
Year of the Revolutions Arrives
Citizens all over the planet of Renatia have begun trembling in their boots, as the Year of the Revolutions has arrived.
The year, so named because of the massive turmoil that will be taking place in the RP world, is happening right now; from roughly the middle of the year 54Æ (After Enlightenment; the Renatian equivalent to CE/AD), to the middle of the year 55Æ.
During this year, it is anticipated, Renatia’s biggest and most powerful nations will succumb to pressures, both from without and within. Some have already collapsed, sending shock-waves across the planet of Renatia that promise to set more crises going like a line of dominoes.
In the continent of Agabia, the Kinsman Federation has fallen, their Chancellor assassinated and the nation replaced by the United Kindreds (UK). The UK is now attempting to re-affirm its power on the world stage by expanding its military.
In Parundor, the Islamic Empire is experiencing what the authorities there have called The People’s Rebellion. The situation is getting so bad that Germanian troops have even been called in to help.
Still on Parundor, this time on the island of Neuonia, Aus’tiania is teetering on the brink of economic turmoil, as its Archipelago Deep Sea Gas Rigs have dried up, a long time before the company estimated they would.
Meanwhile, over in the west of Parundor, and in what is definitely the most momentous event so far, the superpower that was the Nentsian Empire has fallen. Tsar Alexander was exposed as the Zakovlev Cannibal, a notorious murder who has roamed the capital of Vladimirsk for decades. The country has collapsed now and, with numerous people scrambling for power in the ashes, a number of successor states have formed. The largest of these, The Democratic Republic of Slavyanska, is led by the same totalitarian party who ruled Nentsia before.
It remains to be seen how these events will affect the rest of the world, although the first major political and economic waves are already crashing down. Nervous eyes are now looking at the continent of Vaaryn, where the Empire of Eleben is experiencing riots and anarchy. Also, the military and economic power that is the Jogen Confederacy is embarking on an invasion of Terrosiana, an expedition that could well prove to be disastrous for Jogen, and the world, if something were to go wrong.
What is certain though, is that this “Year of the Revolutions” is not a good time to be a citizen on the planet of Renatia and, once it is over, the world will never be the same again…
Cartography Changeover
Since the founding of the region, Renatia’s cartography has been taken care of by the Consul, -DS-. However, because -DS- is now at University and has much less time to spare and to spend on the region, he sought a replacement for himself as Cartographer.
Former Grand Chancellor and current Roleplay Secretary Nentsia kindly stepped forward, but soon he began to experience similar time constraints as -DS-, which led to a large backlog of cartography requests (which have now fortunately been resolved).
Instead, -DS- and Nentsia are now trying a different tack. They have called for volunteers to take single continents to take care of, easing the pressure all round, with -DS- and Nentsia looking after continents with no other cartographer. So far, Freeman has kindly volunteered to take Agabia, and hopefully more volunteers will come, meaning that Renatia’s maps can once again be fast as well as first class.
Legislative Update
War and Conflict Regulation Act Amendment - Back in October an amendment was proposed to the act, which mandates certain rules on war, weapons of mass destruction and statistics needed for war in Renatian RP. A re-wording was proposed which eliminated some phrases, which accidentally implied that only two-way wars (i.e. ones by only two combatants) were allowed. The amendment passed 9-0-0 Aye-Nay-Abstain.
Repeal War and Conflict Regulation Act; Article 3 - Regulation - Then, in December, Germania raised a problem that he saw with Article 3 of the Act, which states that all citizens must agree to a war out of character and then tell the Secretary of Roleplay. Germania argued that it was highly unrealistic that players could ensure that their nations never took part in wars. However, others argue that this exact point was a plus, citing the fact that many RPers do not wish to RP war, and so allowing them to keep away from it makes the region and its RP more enjoyable, appealing and accessible to all. Because of this overwhelming opposition to his proposal, Germania seems to have let the case rest.
Roleplay Update
Kinsman Chancellor Killed in Blast
Police say truck was detonated by remote

In a devastating attack this morning in the nation’s capital, Chancellor Björn Nyrasman Friholm was killed from an explosives device mounted in a pickup truck that crashed into his motorcade. 12 people were killed and hundreds injured in what has been said to be the most deadly attack since the Irastani terrorist bombings.
Police have begun their investigation and the capital has been put on full military readiness as authorities begin to track down those responsible.
Anarchy Strikes the Elebeneese Empire
The Elebeneese have never had it easy. Ever since World War One, the Elebeneese populace have believed that a cirse was placed upon their nation, for becoming an aggressor in the first worldwide war on the once peaceful planet. From World Wars to endless rebellions to loss of allies. Whatever the Elebeneese touch, it seems, turns to rust.
This time, terrorism struck differently. Instead of the usual demonstration or civil war, the Rondoran Viceroy took it upon himself to blackmail the Elebeneese Shaman (temporary ruler). With his many connections to ‘peacekeeping’ organisations, along with being the head of a large terrorist group, the Elebeneese Shaman had to obey.
When she spoke out, all hell broke loose. The oversea colonies of the Empire are in turmoil, and once again civil war struck the Empire. With the Shaman in power, is it possible this ;curse’ can be lifted?
Only time will tell…

Major military expansion to bolster UK position in world stage
Chieftains vow to protect Kinsman interests in Central Agabia and the world

Members of the 6th Eastern Armored Brigade are shown here at a parade in Hammar
Almost one month after the fall of the Kinsman Federation and the formation of the United Kindreds, military spokespersons announced that a new military program is being implemented that will extensively augment the strength and size of the nation’s armed forces. Officials stated that the ultimate goal of the program is “…to reestablish Kinsman political supremacy in Central Agabia, to protect its interests worldwide, and to support the interests of its allies”; the strategem includes such policies as lengthening the term of compulsory service, expanding the nation’s defense budget, as well as sharply increasing the quantity and quality of equipment by investing heavily in domestic military industries. The program hopes to reach expansion goals by 60Æ.
The program listed Tzetxuhoan as the nation’s biggest concern in regards to security interests in Central Agabia, which political and military analysts say indicates that the deployment of armed forces in the southern nation is a possibility in the near future. There violence aimed at ethnic Colonials continues as guerrilla and terrorist groups operate unchallenged in the absence of any peacekeeping or interventionist force. Reports indicate that thousands have been killed in clashes with tens of thousands fleeing north, leading to an influx of refugees in the Jormun and Njordrs kindreds.
The program also outlined special interests in Suðrland, New Irastan, Friðeyland, and Vertadoria.
Archipelago natural gas deposit runs dry
Fuel costs expected to rise as need for imports grow
http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p384194/Natural_Gas_Rig.jpg
The rig, shown here, is located 500km off the coast of El’pin
A spokesperson from the oil and gas company Qalasin Ltd. announced in a press conference today that operations in all three of their deep sea rigs pumping natural gas from deposits in the Harradun Ocean have permanently ceased. The announcement comes as a big surprise to investors and to the government as the company prospected that the deposits would fill the nation’s demand for the resource well into the next century. The some 51,400,000 m3 of gas being pumped will now have to be imported, say energy analysts, giving concerns over rising energy costs as reserves are set to be depleted by Gitna this year.
The Chancellor is said to have called an emergency meeting of the Director of Enterprise, Energy and Communications along with other government advisors in order to work out a solution to the nation’s impending energy crisis.
The nation also faces fears of coal shortages due to the breakup of the Movaro-Nentsian Empire as there are concerns over whether the Independent Republic of Nenetsia will resume exports.
Jogen Elections See Landslide
The Jogen Confederacy undertook its election season recently, which saw a landslide for a new force on their political scene.
The Alliance of Jogen Liberals entered into an electoral alliance with the Democratic Union, both parties being of a similar right-wing ideology. The alliance campaigned strongly on a platform of dissatisfaction with the then current libertarian government, which had been seen to be lax in both internal and foreign matters. The alliance, of course, promised the exact opposite of this (which they seem to be delivering, see below).
When the polling day came, the alliance emerged the clear victor, receiving 43% in the lower house, the nearest opponent being far, far behind at 19%. Whilst this massive victory was clear, it was not enough to rule Jogen with a majority (the multitude of parties in the Confederacy means that this is nigh on impossible). Therefore, the alliance entered into a coalition with the Freedom Party, a medium-sized party whose popular former President Maya Nikolev has been beaten by the alliance’s new President Pashe Belya at the polls.
The Freedom Party, who also served as the junior partner in the last government, are very much the little guys in this government though, with the alliance dominating the cabinet and therefore dictating much of the government’s policy.
Jogen Confederacy Invades Terrosiana
The Jogen Confederacy have responded swiftly and strongly to an attack on a Jogen ship by invading the anarchic nation of Terrosiana.
The attack, reportedly sponsored by the Terrosianan government, which resulted in the hijacking of a Jogen military ship, was responded to with an ultimatum, demanding the ship back and compensation, both for the Jogen government and for the families of the now dead sailors on board.
The Terrosianans flatly denied the claims, and so did not meet the demands of the ultimatum. This resulted in fast action from the Jogen military, who were under orders to strike a huge blow to the Terrosianans.
Jogen forces landed easily on the ill-defended rural Terrosianan coast, and are now making their way inland to the major cities. One large force is making a bee-line for the well-defended capital of Barrand, within which resides the nation’s High Lord and ruler; Alonso Tavares. It is though that, if Tavares is deposed, then all other resistance will fall apart swiftly, allowing the re-building process to begin.
Change is in the Renatian air though and, with this Year of the Revolutions afoot, something is bound to go wrong and scupper the Jogen plans. But, importantly, what will this be? And what affect will it have on the world at large?
The Nentsian Tsardom falls apart
http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p314419/Alexander_I.jpg
VLADIMIRSK - The Nentsian Tsardom was ruled by Tsar Alexander I and a totalitarian party, called the Federovist Party led by the ruthless Sergey Yermolayev. The Federovist Party follows an ultra-nationalist and Pan-slavist doctrine. For a decade, the Party controlled all aspects of life in Nentsia. Everything that the Party did, was officially in the name of the Empire and Tsar Alexander I.
But Tsar Alexander I, who became Tsar 20 years earlier, was not a normal man. Tsar Alexander suffered from Narcissist Anti-social personality disorder, or simply ‘‘psychopathy’’. The Tsar had monstrous urges, and ordered his most loyal aides to bring young women to his secondary palace. There, Alexander would take his time to torture, kill, mutilate and eat his victims. Eventually, the Vladimirsk Metropolitan Police discovered the dumped remains in the Zakovlev Parc. The unidentified serial killer soon became known as the ‘‘Zakovlev Cannibal’’. The remains of seven women were found. The secret service made sure that evidence pointing to the Tsar was held back from the police and the media. Eventually, Alexander even went outside his palace to kill his 8th victim. At the crime scene, he left behind some DNA.
Hackers managed to acquire the documents of the Secret Service and revealed that the Nentsian government had been protecting the beast of Vladimirsk; Tsar Alexander I.
A giant angry mob was formed before the Stolyarov Palace, the people demanded justice. They wanted to depose the Tsar. Alexander then appeared on the balcony of his palace, igniting himself in flames. The Tsar died, and left behind a wife and 3 children.
Sergey Yermolayev, the other tyrant of Nentsia, was betrayed by his own Federovist Party. The Party deposed Yermolayev as leader, and had him placed under House Arrest. The Party then turned from monarchist to republican, and promised democratic reforms. It was all because the Party didn’t want to be deposed from power.
As a result, several minority groups and regions began to declare and claim their independence. In order to avoid war and nationwide revolt - the Federovist Party accepted the claims of independence. 3 regions gained their independence, and the Party decided to rename Nentsia to ‘‘Slavyanka’’. Nentsia had officially ceased to exist.
Han Ji-sung dies
http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p383844/Myeongju2.bmp
SAN-ESEOSI - The Democratic Republic of Myeongju is perhaps the most isolated nation of Renatia. Fifty years earlier, Han Ji-sung and the Jajonsim Party seized power and installed a single-party dictatorship. Han Ji-sung was adored and worshipped by millions, and often referred to as ‘‘Father’’. Han was the President of Myeongju, Senior Secretary of the Jajonsim Party, Chairman of the Jajonsim Party and practically the autocratic ruler of Myeongju.
But at age 85, the ‘‘Father’’ died of lung cancer. The people of Myeongju went hysterical, millions came to the capital to pay a tribute to the dead leader. Thousands fainted, millions were crying as if they had lost a relative.
Hours before his death, Han made sure that he used his powers to bring a successor in position to prevent any power struggles after his death. Jajonsim Party Secretary Pyong Jung-seok was this successor. Pyong served the Myeongju military, he then became the head of the political police - and later he became an influential Party member. Now Pyong is Senior Secretary and Chairman of the Jajonsim Party, and he has already brought some radical reform to Myeongju.
Pyong has made contact with other Renatian countries. This is the first time in 50 years. Han always followed a strict isolationist policy. Pyong believes that some contact with other states could be in the interest of Myeongju.
So far, the transition from Han to Pyong is going very smooth. Like always, there is not a single sound of opposition in the ‘‘Democratic’’ Republic of Myeongju.
