Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

We’re midway through the Holiday period and Summer is still bringing us long, sunny days. Activity here in Renatia is healthy and a increase in Roleplay can be out down to a popular Summer past time on behalf of our members.

Electoral Update

It’s election time again here in Renatia and nominations for various positions were flooding in. This term’s elections saw the introduction of debates for the candidates of various positions to try and promote their policies. It has proved to be a great success. Below is the list of candidates for various positions.

Renatian Citizens cast their vote

Grand Chancellor – For the third time, current Chancellor Nents faced NIG for the position. In what turned out to be a landslide, Nents was victorious with 10 votes to NIG’s 2, and Abstain’s 1.

Secretary of Interior Affairs – Current Secretary Eleben declined his nomination to run again. Duce and Drake were the two candidates for the job, and it was a close race. Eventually, Duce won with 8 votes to Drake’s 5.

Secretary of Foreign Affairs – like Nents, Eriadu was running for a third time for this position. Gebeta was also nominated and accepted it, but was badly defeated, gaining only two votes to Eriadu’s 11.

Secretary of Roleplay – Freeman was hoping to be nominated for a second term. He was the only candidate for the position, and won 11 of the 13 votes cast, the rest going to Abstain.

Lord Justice – Current Lord Justice Saltorra ran for the position, despite his near-impeachment last term. Ikat was the other candidate for the position, and he eventually won against the incumbent, with 8 votes to Saltorra’s 3 and Abstain’s 2.

Speaker of the House of Law Lords - Cowland5, who has held onto the position since its inception, once again ran for re-election. Challenging him was newcomer Viroris, but in the end, Cow won yet again, with 11 votes and 1 each to
Viroris and Abstain.

Legislative Update

Amendment to the Organic Law: Spring Clean – This was proposed to the house by Viroris that a certain article of the Organic Law be amended due to grammar mistakes in it. It passed with a 6-0-2 AYE-NAY-ABSTAIN vote.

War Regulation Act – This was proposed by Freeman to help for Secretary’s of Roleplay to oversee war better. It was proposed that the nations going to war must give all War statistics, give any and all information regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction, all parties must agree to War before beginning and the act officially replaced The War Statistics Act and The Weapons of Mass Destruction Act. It passes with a 11-2-0 AYE NAY ABSTAIN.

Signature Act – This was proposed by New Imperial Germania who felt that people should reduce the size of their signature. Freeman also suggested that certain information be included such as head of state and a link to the nation’s database. It was proposed by –DS- that people would be told by an Admin if their signature was too big. Discussion is still ongoing.

Multiple Nation Mandatory Activity Act – This was brought up by Duce. He proposed that nations who have more then one nation but aren’t roleplaying with the extra nations should have them removed from the map. Topics such as a time limit for these nations to be removed have already been discussed and discussion for this is ongoing.

Roleplay Update

G8 Meetings - The eight most powerful Renatian nations are assembling in a series of meetings to discuss world affairs. At the first meeting, in Betsstarda in Jogen, they discussed trade, normalising relations, the environment and the Gebetan infection crisis. A second meeting is now being held in Klive in the Holy Dragon Alliance, where the possibility of a United Nations-esque body will be discussed.

Triple Entente - Tsar Alexander I and Minister Kovacheva of the Movaro-Nentsian Empire have invited representatives of the Jogen Confederacy and the Neuonian Union to a conference where they will discuss the founding of a Triple Entente, reasoning that they are safer and stronger together, rather than competing against themselves, especially when other powers, such as the Germanic Reich and the newly formed Islamic Empire, pose an even bigger threat.

Battle of Bensa Outskirts Gebeta - Gebetan weaponry fought each other on the Bensa outskirts, down Authobhan 65. The Waffen, commanded by Gath war Generals, formed up in defensive positions. When the infected came, the plan worked for a while. A sudden swarm over ran the group. As the battle raged on, orders to evacuate came in. Weeks earlier, the final testing of the super soldier class 4, was closing. In the Umbrenga Hospital, under Bensa, the virus was able to escape infecting the 150 personnel. Some viral samples were saved, to later continue the research.
http://i33.tinypic.com/8wxuom.png
Shaken to the Ground – It was early one morning when a massive 9.2 magnitude Urthquake razed the city of Harra, Capital of the Sorian Colony Islanzadí, to the ground. Buildings in the city were laid to waste during the near two minute Urthquake. The death toll is not yet known but it is expected to be catastrophic.

Terrorists in Thesala - Earlier this month a group of 10 hijacked a plane meaning to land in Vladimirsk, Nentsia. The plane pilot was forced to turn the plane towards the port city Avoria in Moranus Vera. The plane, with the Elebeneese flag painted on the plane, landed in the airport without warning. Moranus Vera’s mentally unwell Prime Minister was diagnosed with Split Personality Disorder some year ago. His other personality, some say ‘evil twin’, launched a nuclear missile on Eleben and executed an exile. The two nations have not had contact since. The Elebeneese opened fire on the airport, killing airport security and some army officers. Though 10 were arrested, 3 escaped. The plane was given back to the Elebeneese burned and charred. The Movarians refused to help move the plane or help repair it.

Pretences, Actions and Reactions - After a period of civil unrest in Narda, due largely to economic depression and a government that is perceived as elite and ineffective, the government has turned to the Jogen Confederacy for help. The two nations have long been close allies, and Jogen money and soldiers are now pouring into the country. Money to stabilise the economy, soldiers to stabilise the populace. Elections are expected to be held soon.

Coronation of a new King - By Luwealthian and now HDA law if the king has a son, the son at the age of 21, is to take control of his father’s position (King). Hans Grendel has just turned 21 and will be taking the thrown in a couple of days after his coronation.

Soon to be King, Prince Hans Grendel

Isrenia-Varryn Trading Alliance - It was at the opening of the Elebeneese-Eriadan city of Étas-Marna that the Elebeneese Emperor Erna Dosia announced that the former Joint Nations of Renatia had been reorganised into the Isrenia-Varryn Trading Alliance. The first members are Eriadu, Eleben and the Holy Dragon Alliance.

Formation of The Islamic Empire – After a lengthy meeting, the nations of Deltoria, Dar Kar and Damascus federated to form the Islamic Empire. Currently talks are underway to persuade Ramlah to join the Federation.

Terrosianan Civil War Ends - The long-running civil war in the Lemurian nation of Terrosiana has ended. Alonso Tavares has consolidated his power, assassinating, defeating and bribing his fellow Lords in order to appoint himself as High Lord; the ruler of the country.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

It’s September and Autumn is here. Already the leaves are beginning to turn gold and the nights longer. In Renatia RPing is still at a high level and we have a good influx of new members.

Admin News

This month saw the Return of Narda, founder of Renatia. Narda had been inactive for a while but returned to activity in Renatia this Month. Also this month, veteran member Nentsia, who is the current Grand Chancellor, was asked to become a permanent Admin on the Forum by Consul -DS-. He accepted and all of us in the Region congratulate him and wish him well.

Electoral Update

Elections were held in Renatia last month and after a week of polling Consul -DS- released the results.

Nentsia was re-elected as Grand Chancellor with a 10-2-1 AYE-NAY-ABSTAIN win over New Imperial Germania.

Duce was victorious over Drake for the Interior Ministry with an 8-5-0 AYE-NAY-ABSTAIN result.

Eriadu retained the Secretary of Foreign Affairs position for a third consecutive time with an 11-2-0 AYE-NAY-ABSTAIN victory.

Ikat won the Lord Justice position with a 8-3-2 AYE-NAY-ABSTAIN victory.

Cowland5 was once again re-elected Speaker, winning 11-1-1 AYE-NAY-ABSTAIN win.

Legislative Update

Law Lord Dissolution - Freeman suggested that the Law Lord mask be abolished. Currently, any citizen may request to be a Law Lord, but there is no other requirement. This is deemed by some as wasteful, but by others as a good mid-point between direct democracy and an elected legislature. The proposal didn’t gain much support and discussions died away.

Modern Day Act - Reviving discussions from a few months ago, Freeman proposed an act to outline what is considered within the bounds of the technology used for RP in Renatia, as well as what the process is for deciding what is and is not allowed. Voting was held and the act passed unanimously, with 9 ayes.

Roleplay Revision Act - Freeman has proposed a Roleplay Revision Act, to address some inadequacies in the Roleplay Laws including a restriction on what percentage of the national GDP is allowed for military expenditure. Discussion is ongoing.

Galactic Roleplay Act - It was proposed, after discussions between members, that is would be interesting to start a ‘galactic’ roleplay section. Unfortunately though, the Secretary of Roleplay, Freeman, made it clear that he did not have the time to run another roleplay section and, with no other volunteers coming forward to run it, either as a legislated RP or as a casual one, it doesn’t seem as though this will be going ahead.

Conditional Impeachment of Ikat - Newly elected Lord Justice, Ikat, announced that he would be away for a month, leaving the region without a judge. -DS- therefore proposed a conditional impeachment that would see Ikat impeached if a court case was brought forward before Ikat said he would return. If nothing came forward, Ikat would still be the Lord Justice. With 7 ayes and 2 nays, the measure exceeded the 75% needed to impeach a member of government and so passed.

Military Spending Act - An act to restrict maximum military spending to 20% of a nation’s budget was proposed in an effort to stem the unrealism that is popular with certain members’ militaries. A dispensation for a violation of this limit with the approval of the Secretary of Roleplay in extreme circumstances was added. The amendment did not gain the 75% needed to pass though, with 7 ayes, 3 nays and 0 abstains.

Head of State Amendment - When the region was first founded, the founders, known constitutionally as Consuls, performed many of the duties of government of the region. With time though, the elected ministers began to take over more of the responsibilities of the Consuls, culminating in the second version of the Organic Law, which (voluntarily) stripped the Consuls of many of their remaining responsibilities. The remaining Consul, -DS-, still felt that he held too much power though, especially in regards to the head of state of the region, of which he is the only one. He therefore proposed an amendment to give the head of state responsibility to the Grand Chancellor and remove his influence in the cabinet. The amendment is currently at vote.

Impeachment of Duce - The region’s Interior Secretary, Duce, announced that he would be absent for a few days. After nearly three weeks though, and failed attempts to reach him, it was decided that impeachment proceedings should be started. Speaker Cowland5 fast forwarded the legislation, and voting is currently underway.

Roleplay Update

Federovist Party wins absolute majority in Nentsia -

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p354076/NOFP.png
The Nentsian United Federovist Party has won the parliamentary elections with a stunning 56% of the votes. The party now holds 168 seats of the 300 in the Supreme State Duma. The Federovist Party is a pragmatic centrist party, with nationalist and conservative tendencies. The party was able to dominate the election campaigns with its support from oligarchs, various media stations and the bureaucratic elite. Civil rights movements and anarchist groups accused the Federovist Party of using electoral fraud to win the elections. Reports say that votes have been bought by pro-Federovist oligarchs, that the media launched a smear campaign against the other parties and that voters have been intimidated. The Federovist government denies these accusations and has officially banned several civil rights organizations. During protests, dozens of civil rights activists were arrested.

Rebellion threatens stability of a Nation -

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p357734/Anarchist.jpg
The Ichihuexopan indigenous rebellion in Tzetxuhoan started two years ago. The government sent over a couple of military regiments to the mountains of the Ichihuexopan region, to prevent the rebellion for spreading across the entire country. But now the indigenous have the support from students organizations, trade unions, peasants, civil rights movements, socialist, communist and anarchist groups and activists. President Ackerman declared the state of emergency, as hundreds of indigenous communities revolted against the governments and big capital. In the rainforests, various guerilla cadres fight the military presence, while activists in the urban regions take the streets to protest against the government. If president Ackerman cannot regain control over the many rebel communities in the large rural parts of Tzetxuhoan, a revolution becomes inevitable.

Kinsman Political Leader Announces the Dissolution of the Greater Confederacy of the Free Kindreds -

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p356762/KF___announcement.jpg
In an interview proceeding the most significant congregation of the Chieftain Council in Kinsman history, Chief Björn Nyrasman announced that deliberations were over and the time had come for them to announce their decision within 24 hours. It has been confirmed by multiple sources in the Assembly Hall that the Council discussed and debated their final answer throughout the night and up until this morning, finally making their decision earlier this day. We go live to Asgard where the Chieftain of Nyrasgard will announce the final result.

"My fellows, my family, my folk. Today marks one of the most important days in the history of our kin. We have all together partaken on a great journey from a time of loneliness and isolation, a time of war and expansion, a time of cruelty and oppression; we here are gathered this day to mark the end of that journey, and the starting of our great nation anew.

The Greater Confederacy of the Free Kindreds has been dissolved, our colonies have been surrendered to their rightful owners, the Great Chiefdom has been remitted. A new government shall be established, one of, for, and by the people in order to secure a brighter future and to prevent the rise of autocracy in our nation from returning. We shall call this new government the Kinsman Federation. Our economy will be remade in the foundations of our industry and hard work, that we may no longer have to suffer the absence of food on our kitchen tables or the emptiness of our fuel tanks.

We have entered in an agreement with the Jogen Confederacy in order to provide oversight and add experience to our young democratic process and to engage in economic development projects that will aid in the recovery of the nation’s debt crisis. There will be many changes in our daily lives and in our nation, but I can assure you that every action taken by this new government will be solely for the benefit of our people and of our nation.

Thank you all, and goodnight."

The first election within the new Kinsman Federation is set to begin within a month.

Jogen Elections - The Jogen Confederacy has just completed its latest election season. The results saw left wing parties excluded from the top three vote gainers for the first time in the country’s history, marking a continuing shift towards liberal right wing politics in the nation. In the two legislatures; Parliament (lower house) and Congress (upper house), the Freedom Party, Libertarian Party of Jogen and Alliance of Jogen Liberals emerged as the three main parties, gaining many more votes than their other rivals. None gained a majority though, so a period of frantic discussions was held to attempt to reach a coalition government. It was eventually announced by Freedom Party leader and newly re-elected President of the Confederacy Maya Nikolev that her party would be forming a government with the Libertarian Party, an agreement that is tentatively being called the possible most stable and successful government in the Confederacy’s history.

Renatian Zionism? - The Neuonian Union, a federation of Aus’tiana, Courlund and, near the end of its life, Sinai, collapsed recently in the face of a new nationalist government in Courlund. The government there objected to the addition of the largely Mohamikian (RL Islamic) nation of Sinai on account of Courlund’s majority Davaist (RL Jewish) population. The government in Courlund is now also embarking on a period of nationalism that has seen it create a comprehensive military and civilian agreement with the only other majority Davaist nation; Azurbajan. All this nationalism and militarism seems scaringly similar to real-life’s Zionism so, should we be asking, is this Renatia’s Zionism? If so, what does it mean for the geopolitical situation in a part of the planet where the G8 nation of the Mohamikian Empire will no doubt want to retain its supremacy? Only time will tell…

Jogen Annexes Narda - After a period of civil unrest due to near-economic collapse in Narda, the Jogen Confederacy was forced last month to intervene in its neighbour in order to restore order. An agreement was initially reached for the Confederacy to supply monetary and military aid to Narda for a limited time, after which new elections would be held in Narda. Instead though, a surprise change was announced which first saw dispensation for a referendum on joining the Confederacy. This came after lengthy lobbying and protests on the part of Nardan and Jogen right wing parties and interest groups. The referendum was passed in both nations, meaning that Narda officially became the fourth nation to be part of one of the planet’s most powerful nations.

Democracy in Saltorra? - Saltorra recently held its first elections since the Integralist coup five years ago. Only members of the Integralist Movement were allowed to stand as candidates but the Movement contains several caucuses with differing tendencies, from Social Democracy to Paternal Autocracy. The elections for the forty elected seats in the seventy-three member legislature resulted in a coalition between Workers United for Integralism and Liberty Through Integralism led by the first Jewish head of government in Saltorran history, Dr. Dawid Mayer. The Coalition has instuted a governing style mostly in line with Social Liberalism and has condemned the apartheid regimes on both its eastern and western borders.

Nationalist Unrest in Cumany - With the Broman invasion of Cumany, the majority-Broman population of the border region Sizlia has risen to assist their ethnic brothers in the reconquest of historically Broman territory. The Broman People’s Liberation Front has been crucial in several incidences sabotage and in gathering information for the Broman Military. Cuman forces have been building strength in Sizlia and many occasions of racial profiling and oppression have been reported with cases of anti-Broman violence increasing dramatically all across Cumany.

Birth of the Islamic Republic of Sinai -
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/624/sinaiflagmedium.png
After the Emir of the former Islamic State of Sinai attended a meeting with Chancellor Baltar Sha’Krios of the former Neuonian Union, the state seceded from the Islamic Empire. Though, with the Courlundish upset because a vote was not held to let Sinai into the Union, the nationalist party of Courlund declared their independence from the Neuonian Union. Following that, the Union dissolved leaving the Islamic Republic of Sinai on its own with the Islamic Empire seeking vengeance. Coming from an absolute monarchy to a democracy, however, is a slow process and was not completed before the dissolution of the Neuonian Union. Emir Fahd bin Abdul al-Azir requested help from the world to restore order within the Islamic Republic. Now, the Islamic Republic is meeting with the State of Tawasia, Jogen Confederacy, and the Jewish State of Courlund so that it may gain protection and order within itself so that it may return to the international scene.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

It’s October and fall is in full swing, almost all the leaves are off the trees and the air is getting colder. Renatia still has a high level of roleplaying, and new members are abundant.

Mid Term Election

The Endless Interior Secretary Elections

After being elected to the position of Interior Secretary at the last elections, Duce announced that he would be absent for a short time, which was accepted by the region as reasonable.

However, this time passed and then some, leaving the region’s interior affairs, including out of character discussion and recruiting neglected. It was therefore deemed that Duce should be impeached, and the impeachment, which was mentioned in the last issue, passed with 80% ayes.

Nominations were opened to fill the position and, whilst many were nominated, only one candidate did not decline; NIG. However, when it came to the vote, members of the region, for evidently a variety of reasons, did not vote for NIG. Instead, they voted for the omnipresent Abstain, who gained 7 votes to NIG’s 2.

Therefore, no winner was found and so nominations had to be re-opened. This time, two new candidates have emerged; Gebeta and Eleben, the latter of which already has extensive experience in the position and in Renatian government, whereas the former has next to none.

What has definitely emerged from this whole cylce is the fact that it will have taken a whole month to elect a replacement, with Renatian elections currently taking one week for nominations and one for voting. On top of that, you have the week and a bit it took to impeach Duce in the first place, plus the time he was missing in action.

The long time-scale of Renatian elections has been emphasised by the time taken to elect a replacement Interior Secretary, to the detriment of the region’s Interior Affairs. Luckily, the matter is being taken care of with a new proposal in the House of Law Lords (see below).

Legislative Update

Head of State Amendment - Last month we covered the proposal to shift the duty of Head of State from the now largely ceremonial Consul to the elected Grand Chancellor. The vote gained 7 Ayes, 1 Nay and 3 Abstentions. This, in itself, sparked a discussion on the nature of Abstain as, depending on which way you looked at it, the amendment could have passed or failed. (See below for details). In the end, the amendment was pronounced as passed.

Impeachment of Duce - After a long time inactive, Interior Secretary Duce was impeached with 4 Ayes, 1 Nay and no Abstentions.

Abstention Amendment - When voting closed for the Head of State Amendment, Speaker Cowland5 found a problem. If the Abstain votes were counted towards the total, then the act would not have achieved the 75% it needed to amend the Organic Law. However, in the discussion about this, the consensus emerged that, if Abstain votes were to count towards the total, then they would be defunct as they would just be another form of Nay vote. An amendment was therefore added to the Organic Law to make it clear that Abstentions do not count towards the total, thus allowing the Head of State Amendment to pass. The Abstention Amendment itself passed unanimously with 8 Ayes.

Roleplay Revision Act - As well as generally tidying some areas up, this amendment, proposed by Freeman, sought to create a rule that military expenditures may not exceed 10% of a nation’s GDP. This is because of the unrealism in nations who have expenditures over this mark, as those who control them rarely properly RP the consequences of having such a draconian regime, thus making the whole RP system less realistic and fair on that front. With 8 Ayes, 1 Nay and 1 Abstain, the amendment passed into law.

Tooth/Tail Act - Deadcoins proposed the legislation of a Tooth/Tail system regarding nations’ militaries. It refers to the amount of support personnel (the tail) needed for each combat personnel member (the tooth). It was, however, eventually agreed that implementing such a system through legislation would be too complicated for members who are not experienced or particularly interested in military RPing. It was therefore suggested that the Secretary of Roleplay instead adopts such a system as a policy and offers assistance to members in establishing the right combat/logistics ratio.

Election Length Amendment - Initially brought up by -DS-, this amendment seeks to shorten the time taken for regional elections from 2 weeks (one for nominations and one for voting) to 1 week (4 days for nominations, 3 for voting). This is in response to the lengthy bout of Interior Secretary elections we have recently experienced, as mentioned above. The amendment is currently at vote.

Roleplay Update

Secession in the Germanic Reich?

http://a.imageshack.us/img808/8909/germaniav.jpg
The Germanic states of Thuringia, Saarland, and Baden-Württemberg have seceded from the Germanic Reich. The Military heads in these states are now the leader of the Free Germanic States. Before announcing that these three states seceded, the military pushed their troops upwards, and launched an attack on the cities of New Berlin and Ansbach, fighting is also happening in the lower areas of Saxony. Recently the Germanian Wehrmacht and her allies have launched an attack on the city of Warka, home of the Warka Pact Document. The document is what holds together the Facist nations of Renatia. The Free Military has claimed the document and its whereabouts are unknown.

The Warka Document
http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/17/leagueflagv2.jpg
-The Renatian Fascist flag

With the secession of the Free Germanic States from the Germanic Reich, the fate document that ties all fascism together in Renatia hangs in the balance. The Warka Document, a paper that outlines what fascism is, how states qualify as fascist states, what benefits fascist states gain from joining the Warka Pact, and the signatures of the leaders of all the fascist states in Renatia (except Courlund) exist on the document. There is no copy of it either. Now, the FGS, or Free Germanic States, has moved in and taken control of the document. A military operation from the Germanic Reich and the Islamic Empire to seize the document is underway along with a covert operation from the Islamic Empire to seize the document for itself and bring it back to its capital city of Medina in the great deserts of East Parundor. Whether or not the two states, being the two strongest fascist nations and some of the strongest nations on Renatia, will succeed is still unknown. However, it is certain that the countries will try their hardest to keep the fascist flag flying.

US USTIO Shortly Before Attack
http://www.acecombat.jp/ace5/img/fl/fl207.jpg
A recent Skirmish between Eurasian and Ustio forces left a Ustio Carrier crippled when 8 Eurisan Bombers struck it with long range weapons.

In Response, North Point and Ustio forces were put on alert, Leading to a Air battle between North Point and Eurasian force in North Point Waters.

Ustio launched a attack on the the Eurasian Regnov airbase.

The Three nations, who form ISAF, are currently investigating claims that the Bombers received orders that were not authorized.

Mean While, small skirmishes are being fought with light casualties along the Mainland borders of Ustio and Eurasia, while the Island nation of North Point continues a steady Air Protection for its own land, and the Ustio Carrier that was attacked, currently in North Point Naval Base.

The Is’bras Accords - The three large powers of Jogen, Aus’tiana and the Movaro-Nenets Empire met recently in the city of Is’bras, Aus’tiana to discuss a series of agreements that would seek to solidify the three signatory powers as the strongest and most influential nations on the planet. They are wide-ranging and concern economic, military and political agreements, seeking to extend the nations’ power far and wide. Full details can be found http://s1.zetaboards.com/renatia/topic/3830236/1/.

The Pan-Vaarynite Alliance - A new alliance has been formed between Eriadu, Eleben and Jogen. It seeks to create an exclusive economic area, with free trade, labour cooperation and environmental cooperation, as well as forming a strong military bond based around the defence of the Vaarynite continent. In addition, although separate from the alliance itself, those three nations have also signed the Tripartite Doctrine. It states that any further attempts by non-Vaarynite countries to to interfere with the affairs of Vaaryn will be viewed as an act of aggression requiring the intervention of party nations. As of yet, no-one has sought to test this new alliance and policy.

Jogen Oil Expansion - A consortium of Jogen Oil Companies has just signed an agreement with the Empire of Eleben, letting them begin drilling on the world’s second largest oil reserves. The oil fields, which lie almost entirely within Elebenese territorial waters, had not previously been exploited as Eleben is spiritually a very environmentalist nation, and they are opposed to “taking the earth’s blood” in that manner. However, economic times are hard in Eleben, and so the government has consented to drilling the oil, on the condition that it receives its full tax profits from the endeavour. Now that the Jogen Confederacy’s companies are in control of such a vast amount of oil, it is only a matter of time before they challenge the Mohamikian Empire, currently holder of the planet’s largest oil reserves and its largest exporter.

Tensions At An All Time High In East Parundor

With the everlasting feud between Islam and Judaism present in East Parundor, and the recent happenings, most notably, the Ramlahni secession from the Islamic Empire, tensions are at an all time high. East parundor hasn’t seen peace since the time of the Neuonian Union, which broke up almost 5 years ago.

The tensions began with the Sinaic secession from the Islamic Empire into the Neuonian Union. Within a month of that, the Neuonian Union broke up and the Islamic Empire entered into a very shaky relationship with the Jewish State of Courlund, a former member of the Neuonian Union. Following that, Azurbajan, a small Jewish state to the south-west of the Islamic Empire, received aid from Courlund and was able to hold off the Islamic Empire threatening it with 50 nukes. Since then, the Ramlahni have caused even more troubles for the already troubled region by seceding from the Islamic Empire. Tensions spiked at this point when the Islamic Empire issued an ultimatum to the Kingdom of Ramlah stating that if Ramlah did not rejoin the Islamic Empire, decommission its soldiers, and expel all foreign soldiers currently helping to defend the state, then the Islamic Empire would invade the country. Strong resistance to this was shown by many nations including: the Jogen Confederacy, the Holy Tsardom of Nentsia, the Jewish State of Courlund, the Grand Duchy of Imperial Luxembourg, and the Jewish State of Azurbajan. Despite this large threat, the Islamic Empire still pushed its ultimatum to be answered by the Ramlahni.

Just short of an all out war, the Republic of Tawasia offered to hold a conference between the opposing sides: Ramlah and supporters, and the Islamic Empire. All nations agreed to attend. Whether or not the summit will prevent a total war, it is still unknown. However it turns out, this region of the planet Renatia will remain a very high tension area.

Citizens all over the planet of Renatia have begun trembling in their boots, as the Year of the Revolutions has arrived.

The year, so named because of the massive turmoil that will be taking place in the RP world, is happening right now; from roughly the middle of the year 54Æ (After Enlightenment; the Renatian equivalent to CE/AD), to the middle of the year 55Æ.

During this year, it is anticipated, Renatia’s biggest and most powerful nations will succumb to pressures, both from without and within. Some have already collapsed, sending shock-waves across the planet of Renatia that promise to set more crises going like a line of dominoes.

In the continent of Agabia, the Kinsman Federation has fallen, their Chancellor assassinated and the nation replaced by the United Kindreds (UK). The UK is now attempting to re-affirm its power on the world stage by expanding its military.

In Parundor, the Islamic Empire is experiencing what the authorities there have called The People’s Rebellion. The situation is getting so bad that Germanian troops have even been called in to help.

Still on Parundor, this time on the island of Neuonia, Aus’tiania is teetering on the brink of economic turmoil, as its Archipelago Deep Sea Gas Rigs have dried up, a long time before the company estimated they would.

Meanwhile, over in the west of Parundor, and in what is definitely the most momentous event so far, the superpower that was the Nentsian Empire has fallen. Tsar Alexander was exposed as the Zakovlev Cannibal, a notorious murder who has roamed the capital of Vladimirsk for decades. The country has collapsed now and, with numerous people scrambling for power in the ashes, a number of successor states have formed. The largest of these, The Democratic Republic of Slavyanska, is led by the same totalitarian party who ruled Nentsia before.

It remains to be seen how these events will affect the rest of the world, although the first major political and economic waves are already crashing down. Nervous eyes are now looking at the continent of Vaaryn, where the Empire of Eleben is experiencing riots and anarchy. Also, the military and economic power that is the Jogen Confederacy is embarking on an invasion of Terrosiana, an expedition that could well prove to be disastrous for Jogen, and the world, if something were to go wrong.

What is certain though, is that this “Year of the Revolutions” is not a good time to be a citizen on the planet of Renatia and, once it is over, the world will never be the same again…

Cartography Changeover

Since the founding of the region, Renatia’s cartography has been taken care of by the Consul, -DS-. However, because -DS- is now at University and has much less time to spare and to spend on the region, he sought a replacement for himself as Cartographer.

Former Grand Chancellor and current Roleplay Secretary Nentsia kindly stepped forward, but soon he began to experience similar time constraints as -DS-, which led to a large backlog of cartography requests (which have now fortunately been resolved).

Instead, -DS- and Nentsia are now trying a different tack. They have called for volunteers to take single continents to take care of, easing the pressure all round, with -DS- and Nentsia looking after continents with no other cartographer. So far, Freeman has kindly volunteered to take Agabia, and hopefully more volunteers will come, meaning that Renatia’s maps can once again be fast as well as first class.

Legislative Update

War and Conflict Regulation Act Amendment - Back in October an amendment was proposed to the act, which mandates certain rules on war, weapons of mass destruction and statistics needed for war in Renatian RP. A re-wording was proposed which eliminated some phrases, which accidentally implied that only two-way wars (i.e. ones by only two combatants) were allowed. The amendment passed 9-0-0 Aye-Nay-Abstain.

Repeal War and Conflict Regulation Act; Article 3 - Regulation - Then, in December, Germania raised a problem that he saw with Article 3 of the Act, which states that all citizens must agree to a war out of character and then tell the Secretary of Roleplay. Germania argued that it was highly unrealistic that players could ensure that their nations never took part in wars. However, others argue that this exact point was a plus, citing the fact that many RPers do not wish to RP war, and so allowing them to keep away from it makes the region and its RP more enjoyable, appealing and accessible to all. Because of this overwhelming opposition to his proposal, Germania seems to have let the case rest.

Roleplay Update

Kinsman Chancellor Killed in Blast
Police say truck was detonated by remote

In a devastating attack this morning in the nation’s capital, Chancellor Björn Nyrasman Friholm was killed from an explosives device mounted in a pickup truck that crashed into his motorcade. 12 people were killed and hundreds injured in what has been said to be the most deadly attack since the Irastani terrorist bombings.

Police have begun their investigation and the capital has been put on full military readiness as authorities begin to track down those responsible.

Anarchy Strikes the Elebeneese Empire

The Elebeneese have never had it easy. Ever since World War One, the Elebeneese populace have believed that a cirse was placed upon their nation, for becoming an aggressor in the first worldwide war on the once peaceful planet. From World Wars to endless rebellions to loss of allies. Whatever the Elebeneese touch, it seems, turns to rust.

This time, terrorism struck differently. Instead of the usual demonstration or civil war, the Rondoran Viceroy took it upon himself to blackmail the Elebeneese Shaman (temporary ruler). With his many connections to ‘peacekeeping’ organisations, along with being the head of a large terrorist group, the Elebeneese Shaman had to obey.

When she spoke out, all hell broke loose. The oversea colonies of the Empire are in turmoil, and once again civil war struck the Empire. With the Shaman in power, is it possible this ;curse’ can be lifted?

Only time will tell…

Major military expansion to bolster UK position in world stage
Chieftains vow to protect Kinsman interests in Central Agabia and the world

Almost one month after the fall of the Kinsman Federation and the formation of the United Kindreds, military spokespersons announced that a new military program is being implemented that will extensively augment the strength and size of the nation’s armed forces. Officials stated that the ultimate goal of the program is “…to reestablish Kinsman political supremacy in Central Agabia, to protect its interests worldwide, and to support the interests of its allies”; the strategem includes such policies as lengthening the term of compulsory service, expanding the nation’s defense budget, as well as sharply increasing the quantity and quality of equipment by investing heavily in domestic military industries. The program hopes to reach expansion goals by 60Æ.

The program listed Tzetxuhoan as the nation’s biggest concern in regards to security interests in Central Agabia, which political and military analysts say indicates that the deployment of armed forces in the southern nation is a possibility in the near future. There violence aimed at ethnic Colonials continues as guerrilla and terrorist groups operate unchallenged in the absence of any peacekeeping or interventionist force. Reports indicate that thousands have been killed in clashes with tens of thousands fleeing north, leading to an influx of refugees in the Jormun and Njordrs kindreds.

The program also outlined special interests in Suðrland, New Irastan, Friðeyland, and Vertadoria.

Archipelago natural gas deposit runs dry
Fuel costs expected to rise as need for imports grow

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p384194/Natural_Gas_Rig.jpg
The rig, shown here, is located 500km off the coast of El’pin

A spokesperson from the oil and gas company Qalasin Ltd. announced in a press conference today that operations in all three of their deep sea rigs pumping natural gas from deposits in the Harradun Ocean have permanently ceased. The announcement comes as a big surprise to investors and to the government as the company prospected that the deposits would fill the nation’s demand for the resource well into the next century. The some 51,400,000 m3 of gas being pumped will now have to be imported, say energy analysts, giving concerns over rising energy costs as reserves are set to be depleted by Gitna this year.

The Chancellor is said to have called an emergency meeting of the Director of Enterprise, Energy and Communications along with other government advisors in order to work out a solution to the nation’s impending energy crisis.

The nation also faces fears of coal shortages due to the breakup of the Movaro-Nentsian Empire as there are concerns over whether the Independent Republic of Nenetsia will resume exports.

Jogen Elections See Landslide

The Jogen Confederacy undertook its election season recently, which saw a landslide for a new force on their political scene.

The Alliance of Jogen Liberals entered into an electoral alliance with the Democratic Union, both parties being of a similar right-wing ideology. The alliance campaigned strongly on a platform of dissatisfaction with the then current libertarian government, which had been seen to be lax in both internal and foreign matters. The alliance, of course, promised the exact opposite of this (which they seem to be delivering, see below).

When the polling day came, the alliance emerged the clear victor, receiving 43% in the lower house, the nearest opponent being far, far behind at 19%. Whilst this massive victory was clear, it was not enough to rule Jogen with a majority (the multitude of parties in the Confederacy means that this is nigh on impossible). Therefore, the alliance entered into a coalition with the Freedom Party, a medium-sized party whose popular former President Maya Nikolev has been beaten by the alliance’s new President Pashe Belya at the polls.

The Freedom Party, who also served as the junior partner in the last government, are very much the little guys in this government though, with the alliance dominating the cabinet and therefore dictating much of the government’s policy.

Jogen Confederacy Invades Terrosiana

The Jogen Confederacy have responded swiftly and strongly to an attack on a Jogen ship by invading the anarchic nation of Terrosiana.

The attack, reportedly sponsored by the Terrosianan government, which resulted in the hijacking of a Jogen military ship, was responded to with an ultimatum, demanding the ship back and compensation, both for the Jogen government and for the families of the now dead sailors on board.

The Terrosianans flatly denied the claims, and so did not meet the demands of the ultimatum. This resulted in fast action from the Jogen military, who were under orders to strike a huge blow to the Terrosianans.

Jogen forces landed easily on the ill-defended rural Terrosianan coast, and are now making their way inland to the major cities. One large force is making a bee-line for the well-defended capital of Barrand, within which resides the nation’s High Lord and ruler; Alonso Tavares. It is though that, if Tavares is deposed, then all other resistance will fall apart swiftly, allowing the re-building process to begin.

Change is in the Renatian air though and, with this Year of the Revolutions afoot, something is bound to go wrong and scupper the Jogen plans. But, importantly, what will this be? And what affect will it have on the world at large?

The Nentsian Tsardom falls apart

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p314419/Alexander_I.jpg
VLADIMIRSK - The Nentsian Tsardom was ruled by Tsar Alexander I and a totalitarian party, called the Federovist Party led by the ruthless Sergey Yermolayev. The Federovist Party follows an ultra-nationalist and Pan-slavist doctrine. For a decade, the Party controlled all aspects of life in Nentsia. Everything that the Party did, was officially in the name of the Empire and Tsar Alexander I.

But Tsar Alexander I, who became Tsar 20 years earlier, was not a normal man. Tsar Alexander suffered from Narcissist Anti-social personality disorder, or simply ‘‘psychopathy’’. The Tsar had monstrous urges, and ordered his most loyal aides to bring young women to his secondary palace. There, Alexander would take his time to torture, kill, mutilate and eat his victims. Eventually, the Vladimirsk Metropolitan Police discovered the dumped remains in the Zakovlev Parc. The unidentified serial killer soon became known as the ‘‘Zakovlev Cannibal’’. The remains of seven women were found. The secret service made sure that evidence pointing to the Tsar was held back from the police and the media. Eventually, Alexander even went outside his palace to kill his 8th victim. At the crime scene, he left behind some DNA.

Hackers managed to acquire the documents of the Secret Service and revealed that the Nentsian government had been protecting the beast of Vladimirsk; Tsar Alexander I.

A giant angry mob was formed before the Stolyarov Palace, the people demanded justice. They wanted to depose the Tsar. Alexander then appeared on the balcony of his palace, igniting himself in flames. The Tsar died, and left behind a wife and 3 children.

Sergey Yermolayev, the other tyrant of Nentsia, was betrayed by his own Federovist Party. The Party deposed Yermolayev as leader, and had him placed under House Arrest. The Party then turned from monarchist to republican, and promised democratic reforms. It was all because the Party didn’t want to be deposed from power.

As a result, several minority groups and regions began to declare and claim their independence. In order to avoid war and nationwide revolt - the Federovist Party accepted the claims of independence. 3 regions gained their independence, and the Party decided to rename Nentsia to ‘‘Slavyanka’’. Nentsia had officially ceased to exist.

Han Ji-sung dies

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p383844/Myeongju2.bmp
SAN-ESEOSI - The Democratic Republic of Myeongju is perhaps the most isolated nation of Renatia. Fifty years earlier, Han Ji-sung and the Jajonsim Party seized power and installed a single-party dictatorship. Han Ji-sung was adored and worshipped by millions, and often referred to as ‘‘Father’’. Han was the President of Myeongju, Senior Secretary of the Jajonsim Party, Chairman of the Jajonsim Party and practically the autocratic ruler of Myeongju.

But at age 85, the ‘‘Father’’ died of lung cancer. The people of Myeongju went hysterical, millions came to the capital to pay a tribute to the dead leader. Thousands fainted, millions were crying as if they had lost a relative.

Hours before his death, Han made sure that he used his powers to bring a successor in position to prevent any power struggles after his death. Jajonsim Party Secretary Pyong Jung-seok was this successor. Pyong served the Myeongju military, he then became the head of the political police - and later he became an influential Party member. Now Pyong is Senior Secretary and Chairman of the Jajonsim Party, and he has already brought some radical reform to Myeongju.

Pyong has made contact with other Renatian countries. This is the first time in 50 years. Han always followed a strict isolationist policy. Pyong believes that some contact with other states could be in the interest of Myeongju.

So far, the transition from Han to Pyong is going very smooth. Like always, there is not a single sound of opposition in the ‘‘Democratic’’ Republic of Myeongju.
