Renatia is a role-playing region that’s been going since November. We’ve only just started looking to foreign affairs though and figured that TEP is a good, active, like minded, friendly region to open relations with.

Thanks.

Approved, good luck!

Thanks!

We’re currently developing a regional newspaper so hopefully it’ll be out soon.

Welcome & About Renatia

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!
Renatia was created last November as a new roleplaying region, aiming to give its citizens the best roleplaying experience around. Since then, our numbers have grown and we now have a solid and committed citizenship that is both active and friendly, partaking in role play aswell as helping to shape the future of the region.

We have extensive maps of the planet of Renatia, populated with many, varied peoples and nations. We also have a character rp area for those don’t find nation rp their cup of tea.

The executive branch of government, aka the Cabinet, officially referred to as the Regional Council, consists of the two founders, called Consuls, a Roleplay Minister and a Region Minister. Currently, the Council consists of: Consul Narda, Consul Diddly Squitt - Terrosiana, Region Minister Eleben and Roleplay Minister Conortropolis.

Meanwhile, the legislative branch is called the House of Law Lords, and consists of any citizen who wishes to apply and take part.

The map of the planet of Renatia.

Renatia Initiates Foreign Relations

Since its founding, Renatia has been something of an isolationist region; not conducting relations with other regions and remaining neutral, despite some of its members’ allegiances to the different sides in the invader/defender game.

This has changed, however, as Renatia is seeking to open foreign relations and embassy swaps with many famous and respected NationStates regions.

Consul Diddly Squitt - Terrosiana had this to say: “Renatia is now of an age and size that it is important for its future to look outwards aswell as in. However, we will be upholding our stance of neutrality, which will facilitate our continued focus on our role play experience.”

Creating the Flag

For a long time, since its founding in fact, Renatia has not had a flag or symbol to unify the region. This was a notable problem for some members who proposed the creation of a regional flag.

After extensive (and rather lengthy) discussions between the citizenry, we have agreed on a dark blue flag, with white and dark green as secondary colours. On the flag will also be four stars to represent the Regional Council and a tree to represent the region as a whole.

Upon this agreement, resident graphics expert Nentsia got to work in creating a flag to these specifications. No final agreement has been reached yet though, but hopefully the flag will be ready to unveil in next month’s issue.

Legislative Update

A summary of what’s been going on in the House of Law Lords recently:

The Government Reorganisation Act - This bill cut down the size of the government, abolishing the former Grand Chancellor, Interior Minister and Foreign Minister positions in favour of more streamlined Region Minister and Roleplay Minister positions. The reasons for this were varied but centred on spurring activity, increasing competitiveness for positions and giving the elected ministers more responsibilities.

Contradiction Amendments - After the Government Reorganisation Act was passed, eagle-eyed Law Lord New Cowtopolis spotted numerous errors in the Organic Law, referring to the old positions instead of the new. This quickly went to vote and passed unanimously.

Rules of Procedure - Previously, the House of Law Lords had organised its own system of voting and discussion. As any experienced legislator will tell you though; this can be a dangerous endeavour. To combat this, Rules of Procedure for the House of Law Lords have been proposed, which, amongst other things, establish a Speaker of the House to organise its discussion and voting. After discussions had finished, the bill was put to vote, where it will remain until the 29th August at the earliest.

High Court Act - After questions were raised about the High Court, its organisation and responsibility, the Law Lords decided that a formal act outlining just what the High Court is and does was needed. The act is currently still in the preliminary discussion phase.

Colonies Act Pt. III - With the new continents opening (see below), Renatia has seen a spate of imperialism. This has worried some Law Lords, who have proposed a new colonies act, to replace the existing one that essentially gives members free rein. The new act is currently in the preliminary discussion phase.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

Shattered - Tayen Majick was a rebellious leader from the Cambrian nation of Rondora. Majick rebelled when Rondora was just a province of Eleben, wanting Rondora to be independent. After an international effort against Majick’s Rondoran army, he was defeated and placed in a Conortropolian prison. With help from rebel sympathisers, Majick has now managed to escape and has once more seized control of Rondora, taking it on the warpath against its fellow (ex-)Cambrian nations of Sarmana and Elvinio. Despite Conortropolis and Eriadu supporting the stricken Cambrian nations, Rondora continues to win, probably due to the continued neutrality of Eleben; undoubtedly the strongest of the four Cambrian nations. With Rondora’s continued success, and a possible friendly relations with Diddly Squitt, the future looks bleak for Cambria.

The Velvet Guerilla - Revolution has begun in Vertadoria as the EMR (Ejercito Marxista Revolucionaria) seeks to overthrow the ruling junta. With support from local militia fighters, and RASCAL Alliance member Nentsia, the EMR has seized control of a section of the country and is hungry for more. Verizonia, a powerful, advanced nation, and key trading partner of Vertadoria, has attempted to intervene and stop Nentsia’s involvement. The Verizonians’ coarse actions, however, almost initiated nuclear war, and a Squittian intervention in support of its allies in Nentsia. Instead, the war has turned cold, with the Verzionian army initiating a full scale invasion of Vertadoria. It remains to be seen just who will come out the victor in this conflict.

EMR militia forces charging at the enemy.

Cape Cay Invasion Cancelled - The plan was simple; Pixcom would invade the nation of Cape Cay, which had been in anarchy for months now, to secure their borders and give them valuable access to the sea. Unfortunately, the Cayan people rallied and established a functional government, managing to, at the last minute, garner the support of Verizonia and Nentsia, forcing Pixcom to stand down amist threats of a nuclear attack from Cape Cay. The armies of Pixcom have, instead, been targeted north, taking over the area known as “31” and are now greedily eyeing the nation of Conmopulus.

The Silver in the Snow - Four miners living in a small mountain village in Linnitah have set out on a journey to the far west of Mount Ichtári after a young woman named Izbeth Derentar found a mysterious metal in a cave on the slopes of the mountain. The silver-like substance is much harder than ordinary silver and may possibly be worth millions of Linnitarian thars. Derentar is accompanied by Calvin Cavenaugh, Damoran Zarof and Lionel Jacksmith. Far from all villages and cities the group of four is mining to get as much as possible of the precious metal before word gets out. They thought they were alone, but now both Izbeth and Damoran have spotted a stranger with unknown intentions. Things have gotten even more worrying now Calvin has dashed off into the woods and dissapeared. What to do: stay and wait - alone in the dangerous mountains with a possible murderer sneaking around, or go to get help - and maybe lose the Silver to other bounty hunters?

Conortropolin Rail Company - The Conortropolin Rail Company recently opened, boasting an extensive catalogue of trains, using Mag-Lev technology. Many nations have been quick to order, including PNRR, Terrosiana, Moranus Vera and Verizonia.

http://green2gold.org/files/Image/Maglev.jpg
One of the CRC’s mag-lev trains.

New Continents - New Continents have been discovered (i.e. created by the Cartography department) recently, including Isrenia, a warm continent south-east of Parundor, and the Northern Islands; a selection of cold sub-continents north of Vaaryn.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

It’s been a good month for Renatia, lots of new things going on, especially in the House of Law Lords, which has been ablaze with activity. Read on to find out more…

Elections

It’s Election season here in Renatia. The positions of Region Minister, Roleplay Minister and Justices are up for grabs for the best candidate. Let’s look at the positions.

Region Minister - The candidates were incumbent Eleben and long time member Linni. Linni, however, later decided to run for Justice instead, and so left Eleben as the only candidate.

Roleplay Minister - The candidates were actually the same as in the last elections, with Conortropolis and Azurbajan both being nominated again. Last time, Conortropolis won after a close campaign, and it looks as though he will do the same again, with Azurbajan having to drop out because of RL constraints.

Justices - The candidates for the newly established Justice positions were Linni, Pearseville No Rif Raf and Eriadu. Unfortunately though, Eriadu failed to accept his nomination in time and had to be removed from the ballot.

The elections are ongoing and we’ll update you next month as to who won where.

Justice Candidate Linni casts her vote.

Creating the Flag

After deciding to finally create a regional flag for Renatia, discussions lasted two months, in which the region’s members planned and re-planned symbols, colours, everything that would be included in this new symbol of the region.

Last month, we had decided on what the flag should be made up of, but had not yet agreed on a design. Now, however, the region has decided, the Law Lords have voted, and we are pleased to present to you the official flag of Renatia!

Imperialism

With the ‘opening’ of two new Continents in the past two months, many nations have taken the opportunity to claim land in continents far away from their home land. This has caused concern among Citizens who are worried that there will be a lack of land in the future for new citizens entering Renatia. They think that the “colonizing” of Isrenia and the Northern Islands is going a little too far & something needs to be done. The expansion of nations into plots adjacent to their own nation is seen as acceptable but a lot of nations are also grabbing land plots just for the sake of it. Nations in Vaaryn claiming plots of land in Isrenia which is thousands of miles away is just not seen as realistic as nations nowadays just don’t have huge Empires which stretch all around the world!

A solution had to be established however there was widespread disagreement over what to do. Some nations believed that a distance clause should be set up & nations should not be able to claim land which is beyond a certain distance from their home land. Other nations disagreed with this thought it would be better just to lave things the way they are. This went to vote in the House of Law Lords & the distance clause was rejected (see Colonies Act III). As of yet, a solution has not yet been established & nations continue to Land Grab in continents miles away from their home land.

Embassy Update

This month, Big Killer Babys, founder of North Pacific, approached Renatia. He was asking if any members were interested in getting involved in the new League of Pacifics’ role play, specifically their 16th century ‘what if’ rp. So far, Narda and Diddly Squitt - Terrosiana have both registered there, taking the places of England and France respectively. In addition, an embassy swap has been organised, with a view to organising more cooperation between Renatia and the League in the future, specifically with a joint role play, which has yet to be decided on.

Legislative Update

A summary of what’s been going on in the House of Law Lords recently:

Rules of Procedure - In an effort to properly formalise the proceedings of the House of Law Lords, rules of procedure were suggested by Consul Diddly Squitt - Terrosiana. The idea was quickly taken upon and many Law Lords input their ideas into the proposal. The act passed unanimously on the 29th August and elections for the new speaker position were quickly set up. Law Lords New Cowtopolis and Linni both ran, and New Cowtopolis managed to win in the end, becoming the House of Law Lords’ first official speaker.

High Court Act - After questions were raised about the High Court, its organisation and responsibility, the Law Lords decided that a formal act outlining just what the High Court is and does was needed. The act passed on the 13th September, with five votes aye, and none against or abstain. The elections for the three Justices as described by the act are currently underway.

Colonies Act Pt. III - After the spate of imperialism seen in Renatia, an amendment to the Colonies Act was suggested, which would limit such acts to plots nearer the each nations’ home plot. It was a controversial topic, with the Law Lords disagreeing on what should be included. When the act finally came to vote, it was defeated 5-3-0 (Against, For, Abstain), after what was initially a close vote. It remains to be seen if the proposal will be amended and re-submitted.

Establishing a Regional Flag - As mentioned above, the Law Lords have voted on the regional flag, to make it an official symbol of the region. After months of discussion, it is with little surprise that this passed unanimously.

New Organic Law - The current Organic Law (Constitution) of Renatia, whilst serving its purpose, has been sometimes seen as rather inadequate. Sensing the need for change, a new, more streamlined Organic Law has been proposed, incorporating some other existing acts. Discussion is ongoing about the details of the Law.

Some Law Lords explain their positions to the house.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

Shattered - Since the first issue of the Renatian Review, the continent of Vaaryn has changed drastically in the north. In Issue One, Rondora were having many victories against the Elvini and Sarmanan people. The city Aplora in Elvinio was occupied by Rondoran forces and its neighbour, Peramlin, was filled with Elvini and Sarmanan people, the armies of Eriadu and Conortropolis headed to Elvinio’s capital of Elbrooke, where the large river allowed the naval fleet of Conortropolis to guard the city. In a devastating bombing of Peramlin, the city went down in smoke; along with military and civilian casualties. With the important cities ruled over, the Rondorans began their advance on Elbrooke. Meanwhile, Sarmana, Elvinio and Eleben headed north of the Drangin Sea to the Northern Islands, where they occupied an area known as Thresia. Thresia was to be used as a place for the Elebeneese Navy to rest and eventually attack Rondora’s port town of New Maeca-in theory. The city of Elbrooke fell to the Rondorans and Rondora then assumed control over Elvinio. Eleben retaliated by occupying Sarmana. The old Cambrian Union had fallen and had given rise to two new, independent, nations; Rondora and Eleben. A meeting was held in Bodrum, Conortropolis in regards to trading with Rondora. Eleben refused to enter their waters and this made trade between Conortropolis and Eleben difficult. Eleben refused to trade with Rondora and militarised the Eleb-Rondoran border. The result of Bodrum was a demilitarisation of the Taaru Valley (the border) and trade between the three northern nations of Vaaryn. Rondora claimed to own one third of Thresia, owing to its occupation of Elvinio, part of the Thresian Treaty. No word yet on how this will turn out…

Zaman Applies to the JNR - The Zaman Empire, a Parundorian desert nation, ruled by Empress Minu Nejem, has recently emerged on the world stage. It is an old fashioned nation, with old traditions and religions, many of which could be seen as ‘politically incorrect’, or even as abuses of human rights. It has decided to apply for entry to the Joint Nations of Renatia, a prominent alliance in Renatia which promotes trade and cooperation, aswell as mutual defence. Despite some disagreements about terms, a meeting is being held in the Zamanese capital of Shahrazad to discuss the application further.

Space Race - It all started with one man. Montego Valdez, a Terrosianan, wanted to put a man on the moon. Whilst some of the nations of Renatia had, for a long time, held space capabilities, none had ever bothered with the folly of sending people to Renatia’s only natural satellite. Until now. Securing funding from Lord of Norsia Fabrico Meléndez, New Cowtopolis, and various multinational corporations, the rocket is nearly ready to launch. It may be too late though, if the Squittians have anything to do with it. Self-proclaimed arch-rivals of Terrosiana, the Communist nation was quick to jump on the bandwagon, creating a fully-fledged space program that would send people to the moon and create an orbital space station. Also jumping on the bandwagon are Conortropolis and Eleben, both of which have plans to create their own space stations.

http://www.akika.de/images/render/space_station.jpg
The proposed Elebenese Gaia I station.

The Other Side - COMET, the Commercial Ordinary media service for Elebenese Television, has begun a series of interesting reports, exploring the ‘what if’ scenario of a different end to the first Elebenese Civil War. What if Kraal Novoro had won against the rebel leader Serenity Boujé? What would that mean for Renatia? In-particularly the nations of Vaaryn, who would be subject to Novoro’s expansionist advances? Tune in to find out…

Intermari Revolution - The Parundorian nation of Intermaris, also known as plot 37, home of the famous Parundor Canal, has seen much turmoil in its time. Now, revolting against their royal overlords, the people of Intermaris have begun a socialist revolution. Concerned at the potential loss of the canal, yet gleeful at the prospect of another potential ally, Diddly Squitt decided to make an offer to the socialists of Intermaris. Diddly Squitt would provide for the rebels, and the fledgling country, in return for ‘remembrance’. That word, coming from the mouth of Diddly Squitt, could only be a bad thing…

Founding of Ostgrad - As part of the ongoing Squittian Mapping Initiative, to properly chart the continent of Agabia, Diddly Squitt has established a trade city on the continent’s southern tip, many miles from the homeland in Vaaryn. The city will also serve as a base for the Squittian Armed Forces, including their ever-expanding blue-water Navy. So far, response from the locals to the Squittian presence has been minimal.

Prime Minister Gertrude Hannan Dies - Much loved Prime Minister of the Isrenian nation of Pearsville No Rif Raf has died peacefully in her bed, aged 93. The country mourns its loss and other nations have sent their condolences. Elections are now under way for a replacement.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

It’s been a month of change in Renatia; with elections, new areas and new land, read on to find out more!

Elections

Last month, the Renatian Election season was well underway. The voting had just started and all candidates were sitting nervously on the sidelines, waiting to see if their hard work had paid off.

After a week of voting, the votes were tallied and the results were as follows:

Region Minister - Incumbent Eleben wins again for his second consecutive term in the position.

Roleplay Minister - Like Eleben, Conortropolis is another victorious incumbent, also taking the position for the second consecutive time.

Justices - After being left with only two candidates to fill three spaces, it was no surprise that Linni and Pearseville No Rif Raf succeeded in becoming Renatia’s first High Court Justices. They are joined by Consul Narda, who takes the third seat as the Consular stand in. Of the three, Pearseville No Rif Raf was elected to be the Chief Justice; the principal conductor of the Court’s affairs.

WA Delegate’s Office

With the increased interest of the Renatian citizenry in the affairs of the World Assembly, it was decided that an office should be created for the WA Delegate so that they can communicate easier with the forum-going populace. Whilst the WA Delegate position is not an official government one in Renatia and is decided independently of the forums, some of the Forum members still like to maintain an interest in this area and so an office to communicate with the sitting delegate has been received well.

The recent votes of the Delegate have been thus:

Repeal “Condemn NAZI EUROPE” - Against [Failed]
Endangered Species Protection - For [Passed]
Repeal “Liberate Feudal Japan” - For [Passed]
Habeas Corpus - For [Passed]
National Economic Freedoms - Against [Passed]
Repeal “Commend 10000 Islands” - Against [Passed]

Land Ho!

Earlier this month, Agabia, the largest and last continent on the planet of Renatia, was officially opened by the department of Cartography. Despite cries for moderation on the part of Diddly Squitt - Terrosiana, some more imperialistically inclined nations sought to establish claims on the vast expanses of this new continent. Thankfully, they were instead persuaded to opt for a smaller claim of a city-state or, maybe, nothing at all.

We have now seen a wave of nations indigenous to Agabia emerge. This includes nations from new members such as Thisthatortheother, New Imperial Germania, New Tejas, Teseract Corporation, Dagdha and Kirrix. We have also seen another nation in the form of Tander, a new country from long time member New Cowtopolis, currently Speaker of the House of Law Lords.

In addition to the opening of this new continent and, after requests by members, the cartographers have added multiple islands to the coasts of Renatian continents. Whilst they may look nice and add land and population to each plot, it is also hoped that their existence will help Renatia’s maps look all the more realistic.

Map of Renatia, including the newly opened continent of Agabia (islands not yet shown).

Legislative Update

A summary of what’s been going on in the House of Law Lords recently:

Colonies Act Pt. III - After failing to pass last month, this bill, which sought to curb the rampant imperialism seen in Renatia of late, was eventually amended. The amendment included (or, rather, excluded), the removal of certain clauses, such as a distance cap, which were deemed as too complicated or overbearing. The amended bill passed 6-1-0 (Aye, Nay, Abstain) and so became law, with the Organic Law being amended accordingly. With the passing of the bill, there is now a 5 plot maximum for nations of the region and it is hoped that this will help make the RP fairer for all.

New Organic Law - After the current Organic Law (Constitution) of Renatia was deemed as inadequate last month, the Law Lords wasted no time in attempting to write a new one. After lengthy discussions, including many re-drafts, the new Organic Law is now at vote and, if passed, will defunct all but two of the other existing Renatian Laws (The Inactive Nations Act and The Multiple Nations Act). We will update you next month as to how the voting went.

Intelligence Proposal - New Law Lord Kirrix sought to establish a bill ensuring god-moding in the realms of intelligence and national secrets was kept to a minimum. However, the Law Lords who have replied so far have not liked the idea, saying that it is up to the Roleplay Minister to decide realism and fairness on a case-by-case basis. It remains to be seen whether this bill will make it to the voting stage.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

Rondoran Troubles - Once again, trouble sparked between the Elebeneese and the Rondorans. It began with a criminal organisation, the Iced Hand, assassinating their old leader and Lord of Rondora; Tayen Majick. Left leaderless, an Iced Hand member stepped up, and Tav Teban became the ruler. He was a poor leader, acting on the rest of the Iced Hand’s decisions. The Iced Hand framed Eleben for the assassination, causing anger in Eleben and hate in Rondora. The Elebeneese retaliated by using spies to kill the Rondoran Cabinet (the Iced Hand) leaving the poor leader Lord Teban to run Rondora. Eleben then claimed for the Rondoran oil rig, which Teban refused. Eleben used this refusal to make the peace treaty between Rondora and Eleben null and void. Rondora declared war on Eleben after a Rondoran archipelago was attacked. The war is currently being fought in three continents, and the future looks bleak. It is described as the End War, one that will end one nation forever…

Downfall - For the first time since the proletarian revolution in Nentsia, the communist president Nikov announced free elections. The campaigns had not even begun, when Nikov canceled the elections. Nikov declared the state was under threat by conspiring opposition leaders. He claimed the conspirators killed former leader Kalinin and planned to assassinate Nikov too. Following the developments in the country, Nikov declared martial law and arrested all his political opponents. The military carried out arbitrary home raids and arrests, mass executions were carried out in the national stadium. The people of Nentsia went on the streets and rioted, four days long. The rioters were led by the mysterious subcommander Volkov, and his Nentsian Autonomous Liberation Army. The NALA wanted to abolish the government, and literally blew up the capital Krasnograd. The damage is enormous. The communist reign has fallen, so as Nentsia. The country is being ripped to pieces by the civil war between socialist anarchists and nationalist fascists.

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p232616/Volkov.jpg
The mysterious Volkov.

Disillusionment - For many long years, the people of Diddly Squitt have been oppressed by the Military-Led Communist Dictatorship. But no more! [Former] President Andro Krathitis has executed his life’s work and planning; an anarcho-socialist revolution. With much of the population behind him, Krathitis and his Democratic Autonomats are seeking to gain control over the whole nation from the capital of Betsstarda; their base. Meanwhile, the old regime in the form of Commander Nikolai Bemidov and his General’s Council seek to use their control over much of the army to their advantage, and regain control of the nation. To the west, in the former Wylde and Jetpackistan, formerly oppressed factions are emerging from the woodwork, each seeking to gain power and prestige. Many nations the world over have taken an interest in this civil war, from the relative closeness of Eleben, to the distant Protectorate of Kirrix, this war will surely shape the face of Vaaryn for decades to come.

Space Race Peters Out - After the scramble seen last month to reach space, the race has died down now, with each nation having bigger things to worry about. This all culminated in the catastrophic failure and explosion of the Terrosianan rocket (now known to be caused by a Squittian missile), and the subsequent successful launch of a Squittian mission to the moon.

Elebeneese Elections -The Elections in Eleben began with a farewell to what is known as the greatest Empress Eleben has ever seen. Serenity Boujé left to Zaman for her final business for Eleben. the candidates for Eleben were Diad Tamviil of the Capitalist Party, Armani Terivivo of the Greens, Revaal Rwala of the Expansionists and Torian Gavaldo of an Independent group. The Capitalist Party won, very close to the popular Greens. Emperor Diad Tamviil will be the first Capitalist Emperor of Eleben.

Conortropolin Federal Elections - It was Election time again in Conortropolis. With Chancellor Jasmine Schmidt retiring from politics after the election, the Social Democratic Party (S.D.P) needed to find a new leader. After a long process of interviews, it was decided that Joseph Schneider would lead the S.D.P. The Conortropolin Conservative Party (C.C.P) announced that Heinz Kohler would remain their leader in hope of getting the Conservative party elected once again, bringing them back to their former glory. Other smaller parties like the Free Democratic Party (F.D.P), The Green Party (G.P) & The Independent Party (I.P) also announced their leaders. The newly formed & quickly rising Labour Democratic Union (L.D.U) announced Frieda Dietrich as their leader. This slightly more extreme left wing party were also one of the favourites. After months of preparing & campaigning, election time finally came. Just after 4 o’clock in the Conortropolin capital, Bodrűm, the results were announced. The Social Democratic Party were the winners with the Conservative Party 2nd & the Labour Union 3rd. The S.D.P received so many votes that they didn’t need to establish a coalition government. Joseph Schneider was elected Chancellor & Reinhard Friedman elected President, both of the S.D.P. They shall serve for 5 years until the next election.

New Chancellor and SDP leader Joseph Schneider.

Reunification - After the victorious RASCAL alliance forces split the country of Azurbajan in three after their war against the Dictator Hillel, the country’s people have long since yearned to be reunited. That dream has now been realised as, with the administrative countries of Diddly Squitt and Nentsia in anarchy, the states of East and West Azurbajan have elected to rejoin their brothers and sisters in the New Republic of Azurbajan. Hopefully, this new era of peace and cooperation in eastern Parundor will last.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

Not much miscellaneous stuff to update you with this month, so we’ll delve straight into it:

Founderlessness

Earlier this month, Renatia’s founder, St Greeog, ceased to exist.

This came as a shock to some, but others had been watching the days rack up on the Last Activity record and merely used the opportunity to say “I told you so!”

The CTEing came after the nation’s controller; Consul Narda, suffered an extreme case of laziness and forgot to log in. As soon as the nation CTEd, the region convened to discuss what to do next.

Despite Consul Diddly Squitt-Terrosiana assuring the region that Narda would return soon, it was decided to be safer to follow the rules set out in the Organic Law, which dictate that, should the founding nation CTE, the WA Delegate should impose a password until stability can be assured.

The password has since been repealed, the founding nation resurrected, and Narda back to being semi-active rather than just plain inactive. Despite the eventual futility of the regions’ actions, it could be said that it was a good exercise to protect against future, more permanent, inactivity on the part of the founder(s).

Legislative Update

A summary of what’s been going on in the House of Law Lords recently:

New Organic Law - After lengthy discussions for the past couple of months, the Law Lords have voted on the all new Organic Law (Constitution) for the region. The Law, which incorporates almost every other law ever passed in Renatia, seeks to streamline the region and make a more easily accessable document. The vote passed 9-0-1 aye-nay-abstain, therefore passing.

Impeachment Amendment - After the founding nation CTEd, discussion began about what to do if a government official failed to fulfill their job properly (as Narda had done here). Whilst it was later decided that the Consuls should not, as unelected founders, be eligble for impeachment, a bill was drawn up to codify the process to impeach elected officials. After discussion, the amendment went to vote and passed 6-0-0 aye-nay-abstain, therefore passing.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

Eleb-Morani War - It was a turn of faith in Moranus Vera. The day after the revealing new treasures in the Thesala Museum of Ancient History, the priceless Revetta Ring was stolen. Said ring was made by the founder and first king of Thesala. A security guard, Anan Hersposis, 49, was found dead. The bullet, along with a hacker IP address, pointed to Eleben. The Elebeneese Emperor declared war for unknown reasons soon after. As provocations go, this wasn’t much, but a war has ensued and, with Nentsia seeking to intervene on the side of Eleben, could this be the end for Moranus Vera?

Yam Bat Summit - After months of fighting over the nation of Diddly Squitt, the three main factions of the Democrats, the Revolutionaries and the Sepratists have assembled in Yam Bat, a city in Shinar, to discuss the stalemate and how best to go about resolving their difficulties. The talks have got off to a shaky start, and it may not be an easy ride, as many had hoped. Whoever comes out on top after these talks though, will surely change the fact of Diddly Squitt forever.

Tsunami - Over the decades, several Tsunamis have hit the Conortropolin coast all varying in power. The most recent Tsunami, happening recently, was the most powerful one for decades. First it struck the Provence off the west coast of Conortropolis which was called Ikast - Branden. The island Provence was virtually wiped out as the tsunami tore through the land. The tsunami then moved on to mainland Conortropolis, where the western coast was hit, causing massive destruction as shops, cars & people’s homes were torn to pieces. The total number of deaths were confirmed as 3,109. The Chancellor of Conortropolis hesitated when supplying aid to the people on the west coast in case of another tsunami even though several other nations successfully sent aid on time. This proved to be one of Joseph Schneider’s worst decisions ever. Aid workers were unsuccessful in evacuating the citizens on the west coast due to delays ordered by the Government. This resulted in protests & even riots throughout the nation. Eventually Chancellor Schneider was forced to resign form his position. Elections are to be held soon.

The Tsunami hits Bregenz.

Uioy Expansion - It was well know that the Empire of Uioy had been far larger three hundred years ago and one of the Countries that had once been under the thumb of the empire was Gorvesh the nation had never been friends with their neighbours but they had never thought for a second they would be attacked by them but with out provocation the Empire lead a brutal and swift attack. In the early hours of the morning Aerial Bombers took out the Major Army base on the border of the two nations clearing the way for thousands of ground troops to take the Nation. By three AM the Cabinet of Gorvesh had been captured and under threat of death signed over the sovereignty of Gorvesh. A few nations now supply the Rebels of Gorvesh while others support the expansion of Uioy.

Descent into Darkness - After peaceful protests turned bad and, disillusioned with democracy, Eriadu’s President, James Glovelle, has declared himself a dictator and, with the military’s support, is attempting to round up all his opposition. A Civil War will doubtless ensue, and it remains to be seen how the nations of Renatia will react to the news.

End War - The ‘End War’ lasted long, and it struck hard. Power stations were bombed, dams destroyed and populations severely decreased. The war spanned four continents at its hight. But, in the end, only one could win. After the Thesala Conference in near-by Moranus Vera, a plebiscite was called. The result was clear-Rondora to succumb to Eleben. It is currently peaceful once more, the four provinces of Eleben are in harmony once more…

Not Much Else

There hasn’t really been anything else going on this month so, instead, we’ll treat you to a few extra jokes:

The Pope flies in to a town for a visit. Well, the mayor spares NO expense welcoming the Pope. Sure, the red carpet was nice, and tarmac was pleasant to kiss. But the special treat was the limo. The mayor got THE best limo he could get. A truly awe-inspiring, gold trimmed, jewel encrusted, white-white limo.

As the Pope walked across the tarmac toward the limo he had to catch his breath. It was SUCH a lovely car that he found himself compelled. The Pope steps over to the chauffeur and breaks protocol by asked if HE could drive the limo. Not daring to deny the Pope, the chauffeur helps the Pope into the driver’s seat and then gets in the back.

With screeching tires, the marvellous limo, with the Pope at the wheel, takes off speeding onto the highway, easily taking the heavenly car to over a hundred miles per hour.

Not more than a minute or two later, the Pope sees flashing red and blue lights in the rear view mirror and pulls over.

“Is there a problem, officer?” the Pope asks.

Quite taken aback, the officer stammers and says “uhh…I…I…excuse me sir…I…Uhh… no, nothing’s wrong. I…just wanted to welcome you to our fine city.”

As the officer gets back into his cruiser the limo peels out and high-tails it once again.

“Why didn’t you give that guy a ticket?!?” the officer’s partner asks.

“Oh, no, you don’t give THAT guy a ticket. He’s way too big.” the office says.

The partner asks “Oh? Who was it? Was it the mayor?”

“heh, no, not the mayor. This guy is WAY bigger than the mayor!”

“Who was it then, the President? Bill Gates???”

“Noway. this guy’s way bigger than them.”

“Well who was it??” insists the partner.

The officer admits “Well, ok, I don’t actually know WHO was in the limo…but he had the POPE for a chauffeur!!”

Sandy began a job as an elementary school counselor and she was eager to help. One day during recess she noticed a girl standing by herself on one side of a playing field while the rest of the kids enjoyed a game of soccer at the other.

Sandy approached and asked if she was all right.

The girl said she was.

A little while later, however, Sandy noticed the girl was in the same spot, still by herself.

Approaching again, Sandy offered, “Would you like me to be your friend?”

The girl hesitated, then said, “Okay,” looking at the woman suspiciously.

Feeling she was making progress, Sandy then asked, “Why are you standing here all alone?”

“Because,” the little girl said with great exasperation, “I’m the goalie!”

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

Christmas is here, and with it comes Renatia’s 1st Birthday. Founded on the 20th November 2008, the region got into full swing in December of that year and it’s in this festive season that we celebrate the anniversary of the region’s inception, as well as the obligatory other festivals.

From all of us here in Renatia, we wish you a season’s greetings and happy holidays. Enjoy the issue, and we look forward to seeing you in 2010!

Activity on the Rise

After seeing something of a lull in activity towards the end of the summer, activity in the region has truly picked up again.

After bouts of recruiting and advertising, we have an assortment of new members who have quickly become prominent members here. In addition, lots of older members are active and this is causing a flurry of activity throughout the forum, especially in the realms of roleplay, where the planet of Renatia is just emerging from the depths of its second world war (see below).

We’re confident that this activity will continue into the new year and, whilst other regions may lag and fade, Renatia will continue on!

Elections Postponed

The Organic Law (Constitution) of Renatia states that elections should occur every three months, over the last two weeks of the month. This brought up a problem this month though, as the elections would be placed slap-bang over the festive season.

It was with this in mind that Consul -DS- sought approval from the High Court to move the elections forward by two weeks. This would avoid any worries of holiday inactivity. He request, however, was opposed by many members, including Speaker New Cowtopolis, who states that, as it is such a specific law, it should not be brought before the Court, but before the House of Law Lords.

The discussion was thus brought to the House, who briefly discussed an amendment to the Organic Law, before the Speaker used his right to “fast-forward” the legislation to vote. After the required week, the amendment had received 8 Ayes, 1 Nay and 0 Abstains, thus becoming law.

The elections will now take place in the months of January, April, July, and October, thus removing all problems due to the holiday season.

Legislative Update

A summary of what’s been going on in the House of Law Lords recently:

Organic Law Elections Amendment Act - This was the culmination of discussions as to a solution to the election scheduling problem. A verdict was quickly reached, and the amendment passed 8-1-0 aye-nay-abstain, this passing with the 75+% required.

Extended Occupations - Law Lord Kirrix brought forward a proposal to either amend or do away with altogether the Roleplay Rule regarding occupations. Currently, occupying nations may only remain for two RL weeks, i.e. one RP year. Kirrix argued that this rule was unrealistic, and should be changed. The proposal met stiff opposition though, as the other Law Lords argued that the current provision in the rule, which allows for further occupation at the occupied player’s discretion, was sufficient, and that any more would encroach upon the occupied members’ enjoyment and RP freedom. Kirrix could not form a rebuttal and the proposal has been tabled.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

World War II - Karvu Hecktash, the newly elected expansionist Emperor of Eleben sought to fulfil his campaign promise of creating a new Elebenese Empire. He soon drew up plans for the invasion of north Conortopolis, and went on the bomb the Parundorian desert nation of Zaman. The Greater Nentsian Empire saw this as an apt time to unleash hell on Burnadest. The war rolled on, with nations such as Kirrix, Caminu and even the four Squittian factions entering the fray. Eventually, the Elebenese forces were spread too thinly, and their forces were no match for the allied might of over ten nations. Eleben fell quickly and hard, as Emperor Hecktash committed suicide in Morunda, preferring death than capture at the hands of the invading Squittians and Jetpackistanis. Eleben has now been split into five occupation zones, and a conference is about to get underway in Morunda to discuss the fate of the nation.

http://english.people.com.cn/200410/29/images/ucraine.jpg
South Squittian forces march through Ethelden

Operation Big Boy - Fuelled by greed and power, the Dictator of New Imperial Germania, Dack Korto, has decreed that the nation of thisthatortheother will become the newest addition to the Germanian Empire. Around half of the country has fallen, and it is only a matter of time before the rest follows suit.

The Return - The newly independent nation of North Diddly Squitt began on rocky legs. With a crushed economy and the ever-prevalent threat of invasion from the south, the new nation looked like it was going to end before it began. That was until the North Squittians played their ace card though, in the form of Andro Krathitis. The former President was the key instigator of the civil war and for many symbolises hope and freedom. He was presumed dead, killed in the Protectorate’s invasion of Betsstarda but, as it turns out, he was alive all that time, waiting and planning. Taking virtual control of the nation from his comrades, he steered the Squittians, Wyldians and Jetpackistanis into the World War and out the other side, and is now discussion the possible federation of the three free Squittian factions. Needless to say, this is one of the most powerful and influential men in the world right now.

A New Conquest - Like their Agabian allies, the Dictatorship of Drake Dragon has decided to go on the warpath. Invading not one, but two innocent nations, their armies are streaking across Isrenia and, like with the Germanians, it is only a matter of time before their forces fall.

The Amalgamation - With the city of Ostgrad finding itself independent from the former Squittian regime, Leonid Arkho and his fellow hardline associates have taken control, pledging a new Communist Empire forged out of the lands of the native people, the Matschi. Former Minister for Trade, Wilhel Juskot, has rushed to warn the Matschi though, who have mounted a pre-emptive attack on the city. With Arkho dead, and the city about to be invaded, prospects look bad for this supposed Communist Empire.

Nuclear Arms are the New Black - For a long time, there have only been a few Nuclear Powers in Renatia. Other nations either had better things to do than researching the destructive arms, or were sufficiently deterred by the existing powers, such as Diddly Squitt and Shinar, to dare. Now though, anarchy and disorganisation are running rife through Renatia and new powers, such as the League of Fasces, comprising of Kirrix and New Imperial Germania, amongst others, are taking their chances. Will this signal a new world order? Only time can tell.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2r26gxy.png
Uioy tests its new toy.

Return of the Tsar - Trouble is afoot in Nentsia, as an age old conspiracy is rearing its ugly head. At the moment, the Greater Nentsian Empire is a dictatorship, run by 1st Consul Dimitry Yashin. This scheme of affairs may not last for long though, with old royalists returning from exile in Terrosiana to plan their glorious return.

The Socialist Problem - Socialists in the Fascist Dictatorship New Imperial Germania are coming out of the woodwork of late, as organised opposition to the current regime is gaining momentum. This has culminated somewhat in the declared independence of the city of Rostok. This claim has been quickly denied by the central government, and it remains to be seen just how harsh its response will be.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

It’s been a cold January for most of us, but that hasn’t affected the activity in Renatia, oh no. The region’s going from strength to strength, and our roleplay is more active and engaging than ever! Read on to find out more.

Renatian of the Year Awards

Last month marked the end of Renatia’s first full year as a region. 2009 saw us grow and grow, gaining members and many happy memories.

In Renatia, as in any region, there are certain unsung heroes whose work contributes a considerable amount to Renatian society and life. The Renatian of the Year Awards were created to seek to reward those members who have contributed a notable amount to Renatian society. By holding the awards, sought to acknowledge good RPers, good government members and the like.

Consul -DS- offered to run the awards, and nominations were submitted for a week before voting began in earnest. There were 24 categories in total, ranging from Roleplay ones, such as Most Fanatical, to Governmental ones such as Best Lawmaker, to less serious ones such as Funniest Member.

Elections

After they were postponed last month to make way for the holiday season, elections for all of Renatia’s positions began last week.

Consul DS opened nominations, and an influx of members approached the stand, to offer their support or intentions to run.

For the Region Minister, the combined Interior and Foreign Affairs position, two candidates emerged. Incumbent Eleben declined to run, so newcomers to Renatian elections Drake Dragon and Eriadu found themselves onto the ballot. Deltoria was also nominated, but declined the chance to run, suggesting however that he may do in the future.

For the Roleplay Minister, the overseer of the region’s Roleplaying, incumbent Conortropolis found himself the only one on the ballot, after nominees New Imperial Germania and Azurbajan declined to run and did not reply respectively.

For the Speaker of the House of Law Lords, Renatia’s legislative body, incumbent New Cowtopolis became the only nominee, after no-one else dared challenge his successful last term.

Finally, in the Justice elections, for the three leaders of Renatia’s Judicial system, six nominees emerged as contenders for the spot. Joining incumbents Linni and PNRR are Azurbajan, Eleben, Kirrix and Waziristan, all of whom are seen to have strong abilities and a good chance at clinching one of the three positions.

Voting is currently open, and we will update you with the winners next month.

Legislative Update

Two key pieces of legislation regarding the region’s roleplay came into force this month:

Weapons of Mass Destruction Restriction Act - After qualms were raised about the as yet unrestricted use of nuclear, biological, chemical and space based weaponry in Renatia, Speaker New Cowtopolis brought forward a bill to restrict the uses of such weapons. It placed a minimum age limit on a nation wishing to obtain them, and dictated that only nations with proper access to the needed resources could produce them. It also guided that the Roleplay Minister should closely and publicly review every use of such weapons for fairness. The bill went to vote and passed 10-0-0 aye-nay-abstain.

City-States Act - Until now so called city-states; small areas occupied by a larger area, counted as a whole plot and were subject to the plot restrictions laid out in the Organic Law. It was agreed that this situation should be changed, and a system with a size and number limit was proposed. The bill was voted on and passed 9-0-0 aye-nay-abstain.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

Krieg! - After commandos supposedly from the nation of Roland (aka Agabia Plot 5) crossed the border into New Imperial Germaina and attacked a Germainan army barracks. NIG reacted quickly and decisively, initiating an invasion into the helpless country. Nations such as Nentsia, Jogen and Warzistan reacted to this attack, damning the Germanian aggression and mobilising to defend Roland. Nentsian troops were the first to arrive, and the Germanians, not wanting to risk war with their old foes Nentsia, elected to offer a treaty to Roland. A small tribute was made to Germania from Roland, and non-aggression pacts were signed all round, averting war for now…

The Rolish army rushes to aid in the defence of their nation.

Operation Big Boy - Before the events of ‘Krieg!’, Germanian aggression was seen once more, against another helpless nation in the form of Thisthatortheother. Germanian troops quickly took the nation but, with increasing international pressure, later withdrew from half of the area, only occupying the plot nearest the coast. This expansion was a key motivation for the formation of the United Nations of Peacekeeping, and the League of Democratic States (see below). Subsequently to this, the UNP conducted an investigation into the circumstances of the war, and the Germainan occupation, the results of which are yet to be announced.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

Winter’s cold days are gone and Spring and bright days are here. Here in Renatia Spring has brought a boom in new members to the Region

Election Winners

Due to the Constitutional Amendment being changed, some current government positions were changed. The name Secretary of Roleplay was introduced instead of the old title, Roleplay Minister. The number of Justices was reduced from three to one Lord Justice. The Region Ministry was divided into two separate positions: Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Secretary of the Interior and the new Position of Grand Chancellor was introduced. New Cowtopolis, Linni and Eleben were nominated for the position for Lord Justice, Eriadu for the position of Secretary of the Interior, CFK and Drake Dragon for Interior Secretary and New Imperial Germania and Nenstia for Grand Chancellor.

After a week of voting, the results were counted by Consul DS, and announced on March 10th

Eriadu became the First Secretary of Foreign Affairs with an 11-0 win over Abstain and CFK was a 8-2 winner over Drake Dragon with Abstain gaining one vote. Eleben was elected Lord Justice beating Linni and New Cowtopolis by 6-1-4 respectively. Finally the position of Grand Chancellor went to Nentsia who was a 8-2 winner over New Imperial Germania. Abstain gained one vote. Conortropolis will continue as Roleplay Secretary.

We all wish the new Government well in the coming weeks.

Legislative Update

There have been a number of legislative proposals this month in the House of Law Lords:
Amendment to the Weapons of Mass Destruction Act- After the prolific use of weapons of mass destruction, namely nuclear weapons, in a recent near world war, calls were raised for such weapons to be banned entirely. This was deemed unfair and unrealistic though, and instead an amendment to the recent Weapons of Mass Destruction Act was proposed. The amendment changed the act to, instead of requiring review after use, the Roleplay Minister must now decide whether a nation may use the weapon before it is used. Permission must also be gained from both sides in the conflict. The amendment is currently at vote. This passed 7-0-0 (Aye-Nay-Abstain).

Constitutional Amendment- Arguably the most important piece of legislation this month. One of the two Consuls (founders) of Renatia, Narda, informed the region that he would not be returning to activity. This became an opportunity for remaining Consul -DS-, who felt that “having two unelected government members could well be detrimental to the region in the long run.” and that “I do not feel the elected ministers of the region are working to their full potential…because they are too reliant on the input of myself.” He proposed a wide reaching reform to the Organic Law, abolishing the second Consul seat, and reducing the powers of the first. A Grand Chancellor position would be brought in to oversee and organise the Cabinet. The Region Minister’s jobs would be split into their Foreign and Interior parts and, along with the Roleplay Minister position, would be renamed as Secretary of x. In addition, the cumbersome three justice positions would be abolished, to be replaced with a single Lord Justice, and a jury of three, to be assembled when required. After discussions to iron out the faults, the amendment went to vote, and passed 8-0-1 (Aye-Nay-Abstain).

Economy Act- Law Lord CFK-Celtus-Aus’tiana proposed an act to mandate the inclusion of certain statistics in each nation’s national database, but his proposal never went to vote. This was due to the fact that many RPers do not enjoy ‘number crunching’, and making it compulsory to do so would adversely affect these member’s experiences of Renatia.

Land Claim Restrictions-Due to the ongoing unrealism from some members, Consul -DS- proposed that the maximum number of plots per nation be decreased from five to four. This proposal did not receive much support though as, instead, members called for a better OOC and IC response to unrealism, rather than legislating restrictions.

Military Accuracy Act- CFK-Celtus-Aus’tiana proposed that, in addition to basing economies on real life nations, members should base their militaries on them too. However, this proposal did not gain steam as it had scope to adversely restrict war RPing. Instead, members opted to keep the existing 2% [of the population in the military] rule, and promote using real life as a guide only.

Database Continuity Act- CFK-Celtus-Aus’tiana again made a proposal, this time another act requiring certain statistics be included in nation’s databases. This proposal was dismissed with similar reasons as the Economy Act.

War Statistics Act- Instead of, as in the proposed Database Continuity Act, nations always having to provide certain statistics, it was agreed that these statiscs should only be required during times of war, to both ensure realism in war RP, yet to ensure that members did not feel isolated by the requirements of such statistics during peacetime. The act is currently at vote.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

Elections in Mokoyama-The Constitutional Monarchy of Mokayama, a nation located in eastern Agabia on the Straight of Marundigo and the Halaxian Sea recently hosted elections. All the major parties in the Imperial nation announced their leaders and prepared for political war. Each party leader hoping to become the next Premier and Head of State. There has always been a bitter division between Left and Right wing parties in Mokayama and this election was no different. After months of preparing and debating, election day came with the results surprising many not only in Mokayama but throughout the world. The Communist Party were victorious winning 28% of the vote and establishing a coalition Government with the smaller Imperial Party. Their leader Makihiko Kinjo became the second Premier of Mokayama. Favourites to win the election such as the Liberal Democratic Party and the Socialist Party receiving nowhere near as many votes. Many people now believe the future looks bleak for Mokayama with the Communists in power, there is a fear of uncertainty throughout the nation. What will happen to Mokayama? They will just have to wait and see…

New Premier Makihiko Kinjo

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p296438/UNP_summit.jpg
UNP Conference in Vladimirsk - With the tension on the increase in Renatia between fascism and the UNP, Nentsia started an important UNP summit in Vladimirsk, Nentsia. All members were invited, for the meeting that would change the future of the UNP coalition. For a long time, the UNP was in an early stage of development, the goal of the summit was to make the UNP a very professional organization. At the summit, an executive body has been elected, a UNP military branch has been set up (AFUNP) and procedures have been developed to deal with wars that threaten Renatia.
Renatia has suffered many wars in the past decades, most caused by expansionist fascism. The UNP was a coalition of nations who wanted to be protected from the aggressive fascists. Now, UNP power has grown enough to become a weapon against that fascism.

Sevostrova Uprising -Sevostrova, Nentsia. On a small island, not far from the Nentsian coast, several ethnic groups came into clash with each other. Extremist nationalists claimed independence from Nentsia, and are currently plundering, raping, torturing and killing anyone who isn’t an indigenous Sevostrovin. During the night of the big riot, many towns on Sevstrova called for immediate police reinforcements.
Grashynich Police Station telegram, 22.34: We are requesting immediate police support. Our building is surrounded by hundreds, oh my god please help us god!
Uvalj Police Station telegram, 22.36: We need immediate assis…(telephone lines are dead).

The Nentsian army went to Sevostrova to settle things right, but the Sevostrovin rebels are doing all they can to resist the Nentsian army. They use the dense woods, barricades of mud, mines and terrorism to combat the Nentsian army.

Reformation of The CU - The Cambrian Union was a Confederacy of all the self governing states of the Empire of Eleben. The Union was formed to create peace and autonomy in the states as revolutions were evident.

However this did not last. The land of Rondora quickly invaded Elvinio, and the CU fell. Eventually the lands of Rondora and Eleben were reunited, and the Empire of Eleben was restored, even growing bigger.

World War Two saw a dramatic end to the Empire, and it was occupied. Once the occupational period was over, the Cambrian Union idea was picked up again. The Second Cambrian Union, or New Cambrian union, now is in power today. Despite being poorer than it’s former self, the people enjoy peace and harmony once more.

Moranus Vera’s Elections - Moranus Vera was once a nation known for it’s absolute monarchy. After World War Two, however, King Thorn Ricardez has strived to make it a Constitutional Monarchy. To do this, he needed a Prime Minister.

So the first elections in Moranus Vera took place. The candidates were Eda Adler of the Socialist Party, Ammen Escui of the People for Freedom, Ardo Ricardez for the Party for Autonomies, and Demorii de [Gespuro of the religious White Roses.

By a landslide, Ardo Ricardez won. He is currently enacting a more federated Moranus Vera. Instead of one large nation, it is now more of a federation of two kingdoms and the islands. He gained popular support from his homeland in Vertadoria.

Troubles In Taraaq- After nearly a century of occupation, rebel groups in Taraaq rise against Deltoria and attempt to break away from the motherland. The rebel group known as Qazzahk make it far, and take control of nearly half the Deltorian territory before being confronted by the Deltorian military. After weeks of stalemate, Deltorian soldiers push through Qazzahk defence. The rebels soon fall. Deltoria then proceeds to incorporate Taraaq and take direct control over it. Sultan Ali Haara is pleased at his soldiers work.

Preacher Likes the Cold- It was late one night when Nina Dermin, daughter of Segelden Viceroy Triad Dermin, was kidnapped from her bedroom. The next day The Kidnapper made contact demanding a ransom of 5 million of the nation’s currency (The Driuss) in 10 days. However on the 9th day, The Kidnapper’s lair was found and Nina was rescued. It is believed that The Kidnapper was killed.

Explosive Exploits- When The CU was reformed, the CU’s Space Station, Gaia 1, was rebuilt. However during its launch into space, a massive piece broke off and crashed into a ferry in Loríen, Eriadu. The docks were destroyed and hundreds died. An Eriadan court blamed the Elebeneese and a Cold War has ensued between two great friends. What will happen, no one knows…

Love Calvin and Hobbes. Also, I have a question regarding your roleplay:

— Begin quote from ____

Moranus Vera was once a nation known for it’s absolute monarchy. After World War Two, however, King Thorn Ricardez has strived to make it a Constitutional Monarchy. To do this, he needed a Prime Minister.

— End quote

Is this WWII, as in the real-life version? I’ve often wondered how this fits in with roleplay regions, and was wondering if it correlates to the one during the 1940’s, or if there was a different WWII in Renatia that was just as intense?

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

Summer is on its way and Renatia continues to grow in size. Long days will hopefully mean more members for our Region

Election Update

Its Election time again in Renatia and voting is currently underway. Eriadu was the only candidate for Secretary of Foreign Affairs while New Imperial Germania and Nenstia will once again battle it out for the position of Grand Chancellor. Saltorra was the only nominee for Lord Justice while there were no candidates for the position of Secretary of Interior Affairs. Meanwhile Conortropolis decided not to run again for Secretary of Roleplay, Eleben or CFK will fill the position.

We wish all candidates the best of luck in the election.

Renatian citizens cast their vote in the Elections

Legislative Update

Inactivity Amendment act - CFK proposed this piece of legislation. It was proposed that the time limit set before a nation is declared inactive be reduced from 6 weeks to around 4 weeks. A debate ensued as to what would happen if a nation was unexpectedly unable to log in for four weeks or so. Eventually the motion was put to vote. It passed with a 15-2 Yes majority.

Law Lord Act – This was proposed by New Imperial Germania. He proposed an introduction of a time limit before a nation can apply to become a Law Lord. It was eventually dismissed under the belief that the current system worked perfectly.

Realism in Warfare act – Saltorra proposed this act suggesting that military sizes be reduced from 2% to 0.8% of total population. It was dismissed, again, under the belief that the current system worked fine.

Membership Requirement Amendment Act – This was proposed by CFK who suggested that nations should be allowed to remove their Nationstates nation citing the fact that none of Renatia’s stats. come from NS nations. A time limit was then proposed and a debate ensued as to what would be the best time limit.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

The Lair - After over 1000 years at rest the Dragon the deity of the Dragonese has awoken.
One young man called Paul Roberts who never thought he had a destiny, received a vision from the dragon.

After weeks of study and searching he found the lair of the dragon in a hidden mountainous valley in Parundor. He was chosen on purpose to become the prophet of the Dragon to the world.

Paul is now back in the Holy Dragon Alliance, with proof that the dragon exists.

Confederacy of the Free Kindreds Builds Settlements in Former Vishuland –
http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p312053/CFK_Settlement_Maps.pnghttp://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p312052/CFK_settlement.jpg
Confederate Authorities have announced today that construction has begun in Former Vishuland near the border to create Kinsman settlements in the area. A total of six settlements were said to be being built, along with support infrastructure and appropriate military installations.

The area around the settlements will be designated as Confederate territory, subject to the laws and under the total jurisdiction of the Kindreds. On account of this declaration, Vishnu residents are currently being deported to camps outside the new territory.

The announcement comes with criticism from foreign powers, citing that the move is illegal and a violation of human rights. Grand Chief Ansvarr Asman pledged to remain steadfast on the project to colonize the eastern territories, citing the large population of the Kindreds to require new living space.

The Movian Missile crisis - Truly a cunning terrorist plot was committed by a man named Aro Humida, codenamed ‘Sar’. The man, alongside three others, sneaked into the Movarian Nuclear Research Facility, and blackmailed the Veran Queen.

With no choice, Princess Eva Shadala was forced to start uprisings in the province of Vera. The country, Moranus Vera, is a kingdom where many of the people from the former independent kingdom, Vera, believe Moranus enslaved the populace. Protests led to a declaration of war.

As two armies marched, the youngest of the Royal Family, Princess Ana Shadala, went to accompany the Moranus Vera Secret Service. She, along with a doctor and Captain D’Acampo, made it inside.

A missile that was previously launched was en route to the large city of Taro when the trio caused it to self destruct. The ‘Taro Daily’ dubbed it as ‘one hell of a firework display’.

Capitalism: The Push and Shove – After Asper Civitan leader, Bendikt Burnhous, tried to reform Asper Civitas into a Capitalist Country, The Germanic Reich began to fall apart. Talks and meetings are being scheduled between the Asper Civitan Leader and Dack Korto, the Germanic Leader. What will happen next, no one knows…

Seclusion – Foreign citizens were forced to flee Mokayama after the new Mokayameese Premier turned the nation Communist and ordered all Foreign citizens and businesses to leave the Country. Many countries have announced trade embargoes with Mokayama and it is unclear what the Premier’s next move will be.

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

Summer is here and the Sun is finally starting to shine through. Here in Renatia there ahs been in a boom in activity and our Region continues to grow and flourish.

Election Update

After a month of having an interim regional council after the Organic Law change, Renatia had elections again. The nominees were as follows:

GRAND CHANCELLOR
Nents
New Imperial Germania
Abstain

SECRETARY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
Eriadu
Abstain

SECRETARY OF ROLEPLAY
CFK
Eleben

LORD JUSTICE
Saltorra
Abstain

SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF LAW LORDS
Cowland5

After some exiting election campaigns, especially between the Secretary of Roleplay candidates,

10 ballots were received in total. The results are:

GRAND CHANCELLOR
[8] Nents
[2] New Imperial Germania
[0] Abstain

SECRETARY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
[9] Eriadu
[1] Abstain

SECRETARY OF ROLEPLAY
[5] CFK
[3] Eleben
[2] Abstain

LORD JUSTICE
[6] Saltorra
[4] Abstain

SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF LAW LORDS
[10] Cowland5
[0] Abstain

One position remained unfilled: The Secretary of Interior affairs. Nobody was nominated to run for that office. New elections were held on the 10th of may for that office. New Imperial Germania and Eleben decided to run for that position. Both were very good candidates and it was a difficult choice for the voters.
The results:
[5] Eleben
[3] New Imperial Germania
[0] Abstain

Renatians celebrate the election results.

Legislative Update

Federation/Occupation Act: CFK proposed treating all extended military occupations as federations, which require the willing, active participation of all nations involved. Speaker of the House of Law Lords Cowland5 wrote a proposal, which was voted on and passed the House of Law Lords 14-0-0 (aye-nay-abstain).

Inactivity Amendment: CFK proposed basing citizenship on actively roleplaying, as opposed to actively participating in Renatia’s forum. Renatia has had problems with nations that claim land and citizenship, then disappear while their nation takes up space on our regional map. An Organic Law amendment written by CFK and Cowland5 was voted on and passed the House of Law Lords 9-1-1 (aye-nay-abstain).

Updated References Amendment: Cowland5 noticed that many laws incorrectly referenced the Secretary of Roleplay by its old title, the “Roleplay Minister.” The Updated References Amendment, which corrected this, passed the House of Law Lords 8-0-0 (aye-nay-abstain).

Multiple Nations Act II: New Imperial Germania proposed setting a limit of four nations per citizen to ensure that enough open plots were left on Renatia’s regional map. However, this would mean that every citizen would legally be allowed to control twenty plots (five per nation). -DS- suggested that instead the House of Law Lords create a plot limit of 10 plots, while still not limiting the number of nations a citizen could theoretically control. He proposed an Organic Law amendment outlining exactly that, and the final result was 8-4-1 (aye-nay-abstain). Because Organic Law amendments need a 75% majority to be enacted, the Multiple Nations Act II failed.

GDP Amendment Act: Cowland5 proposed an Organic Law amendment that removed the requirement to base GDP and economic statistics on real-world nations as well as the requirement to base government expenditures on NSeconomy’s statistics. After initial opposition and debate, a motion to vote was made. Voting is ongoing.

Military Realism Act: CFK proposed making it a requirement to base all militaries off of real-world militaries with similar expenditures. Five pages of debate later, a proposed piece of legislation was written, but no motion to vote has been called.

New Definition of “War”: After noticing that many wars in Renatia devolve into “total war”, and many nations seemed willing to engage in “total war”, which he deemed unrealistic, Nents proposed defining a distinction between “total” and “limited” warfare to increase realism in roleplaying war. Discussion is ongoing.

Court Case

Nentsia vs. New Imperial Germania High Court Case

After the rise of suspicion among the new Regional Council, Grand Chancellor Nentsia decided to make an official accusation against New Imperial Germania of violating the multiple nations act, which was enacted by the House of Law Lords on 30 January 2009.

New Imperial Germania was suspected to have used the member account and nation of his friend for the gain of his own nation. New Imperial Germania federated his nation with his friend’s nation, by using his friend’s account. The Justice Lord decided that New Imperial Germania was officially in control of the two nations, and the Multiple Nations Act forbids members to federate their own nations with each other. After evidence was provided by Nentsia, New Imperial Germania confessed to his crime.

The Justice Lord gave him the following sanction:

The nation of New Imperial Germania, and any successor states to it, which are controlled by the player New Imperial Germania, shall henceforth be prohibited from federating with any other nation. Other nations controlled New Imperial Germania (the player) will be permitted to federate, subject to intense scrutinisation on the part of the government member in charge of Roleplay (currently the Secretary of Roleplay).

New Imperial Germania accepted this, case closed. The Chancellor Nentsia is happy that New Imperial Germania was so cooperative and that everything is good now.

The official Justice Lord, Saltorra, was inactive during the case. Therefore Consul DS acted as Justice Lord. DS did very well, but the absence of Saltorra may have consequences to his position as Justice Lord.

Roleplay Update

A summary of what’s been going on on the planet of Renatia recently:

Cambrian/Kindreds War-
http://i50.tinypic.com/2ev43fp.png
These are two out of seven tourists who were executed in the Confederacy of the Free Kindreds. The Cambrians were spending a week in Nyrasgrad, and then missed their flights. When the colony claimed that the people were not there, the CU sent a message to the Greater CFK.

The tourists were there, and executed for entering their land.

Enraged by this, and even more so when the Grand Chief of CFK refused to send back the people alive, Earl Mbawe Otokini of Elvinio, Cambria, declared war on the Confederacy. Nyrasgrad was invaded, the Cambrian city Crucian was bombed.

Secretary Serenity Boujé was willing to make peace, but claimed that ‘The Kindreds nearly tricked us into going against our allies, Vertadoría’

Relations with the CFK have ceased.

Nenets-Deutsche War-
http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/4664/phlogtanksingeorgruss.jpg
Germanian APC on Ardania-Tekarvesh Border

After years of cold war between Nentsia and New Imperial Germania, Nentsia declares war on Germania. The war was provoked by an attack on a peace conference in Barneveld New Imperial Germania. A small group of local citizens formed a large mob that stormed the Conference building. It is rumored that the local ES-ARP (Ehrenschutz Anti Riot Police) was involved in the attack, but only the Germanian government knows that for sure. In recent events the nation of Ardania has allied with Germania, and Germanian forces have begun to launch an invasion into Tekarvesh from Ardanian soil. Nentsia retaliated with an Airborne and seaborne operations on the coast of Germania. There still is no clear victor in this ongoing conflict

The Cold Hand of Winter- It was on a starry night in the Segelden Capital Giea that Segelden Viceroy Triad Dermin was shot dead by an unidentified assassin. On the day of his funeral, a technician and his assistants stole a bomb from an army base in the Segelden city of Gaupelo. It is unclear whether to two events are connected and is unknown what is the planned purpose of the bomb.

Tropic Straight Conflict- After The Kindreds went to War with Cambria. They claimed that they had rightful ownership of the Tropic Straight…despite not bordering it. Vertadoria, a nation that borders the Tropic Straight, were outraged and immediately declared War allying themselves with Cambria. North Sea Territories declared War with Vertadoria and Cambria. The Tropic Straight Conflict is ongoing and the outcome is still unclear.

Gebetan – Gath War-
http://www.playerzblog.com/wp-content/worldinconflictfighterplanes.jpg
Nose Camera OF F15 Strike RTB taken by incoming strikers of the 52ND Luftwaffe.

Following a quick war between Gebeta and Gath, after Gebetan claims of Gath attacks on Antang Gebeta, Gath took the current Gebetan Economic situation to reclaim Gebetan Occupied Gath taken after a Gebetan Blitz.
The 2nd Gath war, is lead by the Gath Prime Minister, Who was captured during the First Gebetan Gath war by a Gebetan Kommando JSF team during peace conference, following the location of Gath Labor Camps. After spending time in Gebetan Custody, he was handed to UNP for trial. There is still no answer as to how he escaped from UNP custody.
The Current war is at a stand still, with Gebetan force holding the line, under intense Gath artillery fire.
The Luftwaffe has been making sorties, to relive the Gebetan ground force. It is still hard to tell if anyone will be making progress, or if any agreement can be made.

Welcome

Welcome to the Renatian Review; the foreign update newspaper for the region of Renatia!

Summer is here and the hot weather is most welcome to us all. Here in Renatia we have seen a recent boom in activity as Roleplaying hits a new high.

Legislative Update

GDP Amendment Act: Last month, Cowland5 proposed an Organic Law amendment that removed the requirement to base GDP and economic statistics on real-world nations as well as the requirement to base government expenditures on NSeconomy’s statistics. Voting was completed early this month, the result being 8-1-1 (Aye-Nay-Abstain), and so the amendment passed.

Modern Day Act: New Imperial Germania proposed the disallowing of nations with technology levels long before the modern era, such as the medieval Tekarvesh. There was strong opposition though, as people advocated the right of RPers to decide what their own nation was like, citing the fact that there are many people across the real world who live in such “old style” conditions, either wilfully or not. and so discussions died down.

War Regulation Act: CFK proposed an act to better enforce the regulation of war RPs. Whilst there was positive discussion on the matter, and a promise of a proposal being written up, no such proposal has yet appeared.

The proposal went to vote last month and failed. Going back to the discussions, it was proposed that the proposed limit could be raised to 12 instead of 10. Upon voting, the amendment passed by a hair’s breadth, with 9-2-1 (Aye-Nay-Abstain), just gaining the 75% needed to amend the Organic Law.

Impeachment of Saltorra: Saltorra, at the last regional elections, was chosen to be Renatia’s next Lord Justice; the head of the judicial body and the region’s only judge. Saltorra became inactive though and, whilst he gave warning that he would be away for a period, he did not return immediately after that. Nents cited the fact that Saltorra was legally classed as inactive (and was thus eligible for removal from the maps), and that he was not here when the region needed him for a court case (see last month’s issue). Just in the nick of time though, Saltorra returned, meaning that many members changed their votes against the impeachment, wanting to give Saltorra a second chance. At the end of voting, the result was 6-4-2 (Aye-Nay-Abstain), not gaining the 75% required for impeachment, and so Saltorra remains the Lord Justice.

Roleplay Update

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p296438/UNP_summit.jpg
End of the UNP, Renatian blackhole

From 29Æ until 40Æ, the UNP was large military alliance that tried to enforce peace upon Renatia. Warmongering nations could expect hard hits from the UNP if they were ever trying to dominate other nations. For years this alliance was the counterpart of the League of Fasces, later the Tripartite Pact and after that the Warka Pact. Although the UNP was controversial and caused arms races and cold wars, the UNP managed to bring some sort of order to Renatia. A war in Roland was prevented by the UNP, the war between the NST and Celtus was ended by UNP intervention and the UNP protected Tekarvesh against the Germanic Reich for years.

The Jogen Confederacy, Courlund, Aus’tiana and other members began to rescind their membership. Not much was left of the UNP. Its founder, the Nentsian Tsardom, eventually dissolved the alliance and blamed the Aus’tianans for ‘‘destroying the alliance from the inside out’’. Not long after the UNP was gone, wars broke out all over Renatia. Genocides are being committed, nuclear weapons have been fired and occupations are ongoing.

Movaro-Nenets Empire formed (41Æ)

After lots of political debates, the Tsardom of Nentsia and the Kingdom of Moranus Vera decided that it would serve humanity if the two monarchies federated together. The Movaro-Nenets Empire was formed, establishing a massive empire on the north-west of Parundor. The Empire has the task to develop and exchange cultures, and to become culturally the most advanced nation in Renatia and to bring wealth and prosperity for its citizens.

The Empire is a dual monarchy, led by Tsar Alexander of Nentsia and Emperor Thorn of Moranus Vera.

Santana Coup

La Republica de Vertadoría, a tropical republic, is being haunted by troubles. The country ruled by a revolutionary government first went bankrupt, then it was attacked by the Confederacy of the Free Kindreds and later also invaded by the Union of Integrist Territories.
Most government ministers were former guerilla fighters, and they left their offices to fight on the front in the jungles. Vertadoria had become chaos. In that chaos, a small political movement got a chance to grow. The movement greatly expanded under the charismatic demagogue Don Rodrigo de Santana. Santana eventually carried out a succesful coup d’etat. He had the support of the right people, such as the military leaders of the armies stationed near the capital, some police chiefs, influential businessmen and also some secret agents.
By the end of the evening, military troops occupied telephone stations and mediastations. Paramilitary groups who supported Santana took the streets and barricaded the parliament building for any political opponents. The police was ordered to arrest all parliament members while Santana entered the parliament building and inaugurated himself as Interim president for National Crisis Management. By declaring the State of Emergency, Santana has given himself the ability to surpress any opposition to his junta.

Gath Primeir Damien Shaw Honored

Shaw was killed at a Gath Gebetan peace talk by SS units. In Gath, memorials were held for him. Around the world, Gebeta was threatened with server back lash.

In Gebeta, there were no victory parades, but a memorial and funeral service for Shaw. Following a old Gebetan code of honor, his body was recovered and taken to Antang Gebeta, current seat of government following nuclear strikes on Bensa. Outside of Antang, the National Cementary, Shaw was laid to rest, while words speaking to his honor were spoken. He was buried with full military honors reserved for the Fuhrer.

In Gath occupied Gebeta, memorials to Gath soldiers and civilians are under construction. In Felix, Gebeta, Gebetan soldiers prepare to surround invading Nentsian troops, and preparations are being made to annihilate a Nentsian blockade.

Despite hopes for peace, the Gath Gebetan war inches near to the abyss, threating to consume more nations in a long war.

Tekarveshi Reunification

The Free State of Ardania was established in the year 38AE when Lord Aral Entak led a revolution in the province Garthen and spread to Opariel. Tekarvesh was then split in two for two years.
When Germania used Ardania to fight UNP forces in Tekarvesh, the two nations went to war. The UNP dissolved, Germania withdrew, but war continued. Eventually the capital of Ardania, Dilen, was invaded by Tekarveshi troops. The people welcomed freedom and joined to remove Entak from power.
Tekarvesh is currently in disrepair, but the Neuonian Union (Aus’tiana and Courland) hope to stay in a building made for protection of the technology free Tekarvesh. The nation is currently under heavy rebuilding.

J.N.R. Conference

Concerned about the lack of activity in the once powerful Joint Nations of Renatia, Emperor Dosia of Eleben called a J.N.R conference in the city of Durnheim-Arda to discuss this. Only four out of the seven J.N.R members attended, Eleben, The Holy Dragon Alliance, Conortroplis and The Sorian Empire. It was agreed at the meeting that the Joint Nations of Renatia be dissolved and that new alliance emerge from it. This alliance is currently in the process of birth and is expected to be announced to the world soon.

G8 Summit

Renatia’s first G8 Summit is currently underway in Betssarda between the the 8 most influential economies: Movaro-Nenstian Empire, The Jogen Confederacy, The Neuonian Union, The Sorian Empire, The Holy Dragon Alliance, Deltoria, The Integritist Union and Germania. Tensions were high at the start of the conference between Tsar Alexander of Nenstia and the delegate from Germania over trade. A trade embargo had been imposed on Germania by the former UNP but in the end all nations present agreed to re-open trade with the Germanians citing the fact the UNP was no more and that Germania should have a second chance. Only the Movaro-Nenstian Empire refused to trade. The Summit is still ongoing.

http://z3.ifrm.com/208/18/0/p338625/CFK_Irastan_Soldier.jpg
Greater Confederacy of the Free Kindreds invades Irastan

The Greater Confederacy of the Free Kindreds, after being the target of an attempted terrorist attack originating in the nation of Irastan, has elected to invade their westerly Islamic neighbor. As per Confederate ethnic policy the native Irastani population was to be forcibly removed from the land and the country is to be used as living space for the Kinsmen. The decision has received many diplomatic condemnations from the rest of the world powers including as far as supplying the Irastani people with humanitarian aide, as in the case of Eleben. Only time will tell how far the Confederacy is willing to go to annex the land, yet troubles remain on the horizon as an ultra-Islamic militant group, the ‘Venom of Allah’, have risen to power in the south-western mountains of the nation.

Aus’tiana and Courlund Federate, Neuonian Union Formed

The two nations of Aus’tiana and Courlund have federated to form a geographically focused multinational federation called the Neuonian Union. The people are represented in the United Neuonian Assembly consisting of democratically elected persons from each member nation. The executive branch is lead by two positions, the Chancellor and President, from Aus’tiana and Courlund respectively. While they are different in name, the amount of power vested in each position is identical. Being one of the most economically strong and with one of the most powerful armed forces in the world, its role in international politics is quite significant. The Union is founded and acts upon six pillars: Peace, Unity, Knowledge, Equality, Progress, and Diversity, all of which it promotes on an internal and international basis.
