Historical Summary:
Beginning roughly around 1500 BCE, directly after the collapse of the nearby Auravas Civilizations, many ancient Auravasi made there way to the eastern lands, where they came across Cameria. Ancient Cameria prospered as a collection of several city states and villages that eventually formed together to create small kingdoms. Throughout the Iron Age, the Camerian tribes that lived in the south of Modern Day Cameria united to form the first ever kingdom within Cameria, the Kingdom of Cantor.
It wasn’t until the Middle Ages that Cantor would fall due to perpetual raids from the tribes of the north, making Canter the longest lasting single Kingdom in Camerian history. The Middle Ages also brought Cameria a new form of Government and Religion in the form of a Silvist Theocracy. For the first time in Camerian history, a majority of the land comprising of modern day Cameria became unified under one governing body, the Heiligian-Silvist Kingdom. A few centuries later, a schism between the Silvist Church and the its Heilig sect caused the two to differentiate from each other, causing the Heilig Church to become a separate entity.
As the Middle Ages came to an end, power in the Heilig Kingdom of Cameria Began to shift. The Archbishop of the Heilig Church began to grow exponentially more powerful due to their massive role in regulating nation-wide education, wealth, and local politics. This growth in power was contrasted by the decline of the Camerian King’s power. As the Church’s voice grew more prominent, the King became more of a figurehead while the Bishops controlled the country. This era of the country became known as the Theocratic Period, in which the Church openly held absolute power over everything.
Eventually, the Theocracy would too come to an end. In 1769, after being inspired by the Auravas Revolution, Camerian revolutionaries took to the streets demanding that the Church grant them the right to vote and the right to a constitution. Initially, the Church ignored the requests until the movements began gaining popularity, in which the Church then gave in to their demands.
Although the Camerian Republic initially acted little more than a mask for the Church to wear while it governed the people in the background, the Republic would, through strenuous effort, gain more and more legitimacy until finally in 1921, when the Heilig Church officially lost an election and religious-based parties were deemed unconstitutional.
In the Modern Day, Cameria still suffers from much of the corruption and backwards thinking that the Heilig Church instilled in it. Although things are comparatively bad in Cameria compared to its neighbors, it’s a far cry from the state it once was.
