BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAGISTERIUM OF THE EAST PACIFIC

Section I- Title
…1.1- This Resolution shall be known and cited as the “East Pacific News Service Resolution”.

Section II- Findings
…2.1- The Magisterium finds that:
……2.1.1- The East Pacific News Service has served as the regional newspaper and publication service for the East Pacific for many years, and thus;
……2.1.2- Has an illustrious and grand history of writing, but
……2.1.3- No law nor resolution currently backs the status of the East Pacific News Service as The East Pacific’s sole regional publication.

Section III- Definitions
…3.1- For the purposes of this resolution, the following is defined as:
……3.1.1- “East Pacific News Service”- A service providing news publications, commonly endorsed and ran by the government of the East Pacific.
……3.1.2- “Publisher”- Any person who makes or produces a piece of news for a general audience.
……3.1.3- “Publication”- The issuing of any news-related source, including but not limited to forum dispatches, magazines, and
……3.1.2- “Domestic Publication”- Any news publication that has been produced by a resident of the East Pacific, for the residents and citizenry of the East pacific.
……3.1.3- “Domestic Publisher”- Any person who creates a domestic publication.

Section IV- Resolutions
…4.1- The East Pacific News Service should be considered the official government-backed news publisher of the East Pacific and,
……4.1.1- This status of officialism should be applied to all publications created by the East Pacific News Service,
…4.2- However; be it recommended that the government of the East Pacific be allowed to support and promote domestic publications not published by the East Pacific News Service in order to foster regional growth and activity, however;
……4.2.1- In a dispute or conflict of interest between two or more domestic publishers in which the East Pacific News Service is involved, the government ought to prioritize the East Pacific News Service and its interests before any other publisher.
4.1- States what EPNS has been throughout its history.
4.1.1- Just to clarify what publications are officiated via EPNS’s official status.
4.2- Just because EPNS is the official newspaper doesnt meant that the government can’t support other news publications. The idea is that EPNS releases the most broad and most promoted government newspaper, but other news things shouldn’t be stifled/left alone. We should try to promote them as well (to some extent) to keep up regional activity! Well, given that any such newspaper exists in the future.
4.2.1- Basically states that should there be any conflict arise between EPNS and other domestic publishers, that the East Pacific News Service will receive the support of the government. But I’m open to removing this, as something I can see here is if EPNS does something unethical like plagarism, then the Magisterium would still be pushing for the government to support EPNS in the examplary dispute.
So here’s the draft! Please read the comments section.

This is a first draft of the resolution I said I would propose.

Since 4.1.1 mentions “all publications” are considered official, the EPNS can only write stuff that is approved by The East Pacific. There is no room for gossip,  slander, assumptions and gut feelings. Is that what the EPNS wants, and is that what we want from the EPNS?
In the latter case, yes, I for one like my news free from gossip, assumptions and gut feelings. Just want to make sure we’re all on the same page by mentioning “all publications”.

Yep! If you feel there’s a better way to word it, I would appreciate it.

EPNS has a high standard being the regional newspaper, and it should not resort to such things in any capacity.

I totally didn’t post up a bill for a resolution doing the same thing before realizing my mistake.

Okay, here’s my two cents:
1.1. Can you mention that you can abbreviate it to EPNS Resolution or something to that effect?
2.1. You probably should bring up more of the background with how it was established by the EPNS Act, which is now repealed.

Are you going to leave Section IV as it is, or explicitly state that the EPNS shouldn’t publish speculation and hearsay?

Do you think this addresses your concerns? I tired to add everything you suggested :>

I think 2.1 needs to read more smoothly. For example, “The Magisterium finds that…has an illustrious and grand history of writing” doesn’t make any sense. The “but” also needs to be removed.

Regarding 4.1, I remember when writing for The Northern Lights for a brief time when they would have editorials, and there would be a header that says that it was the opinion of the author and not necessarily the opinion of The Northern Lights or the government of TNP. I’m not Tretrid but I’d want to allow some editorials or opinion pieces. I do get what you’re trying to go for here, though.

So this law is basically there to say that EPNS is the official TEP government-backed news service. Who can publish news services? What if the paper ends up being used for nefarious purposes, like a delegate cabinet that is seeking the coup the region? What recourse do we have if this paper ends up getting hijacked?

As it’s a resolution, and not a law, I feel this could be simpler.

“……2.1.3- No law nor resolution currently backs the status of the East Pacific News Service as The East Pacific’s sole regional publication.”
I would say “official”, not “sole”.

Do we really need the section on definitions? Can’t this be formulated in a more simple way?

“…4.1- The East Pacific News Service should be considered the official government-backed news publisher of the East Pacific and,”
I would suggest “The Magisterium hereby endorses The East Pacific News Service as the official government news publisher of the East Pacific”.

“……4.1.1- This status of officialism should be applied to all publications created by the East Pacific News Service,”
‘Officialism’ does not mean what you think it means.

In 4.2. ; you have “however” twice, I’d suggest reformulating this in a more elegant way.

Do we need 4.2.1?

I added Bach’s suggestions, tried for Atlae’s as well.

@Todd, I understand what you’re saying. I’m not exactly sure, however, how to word your idea into this resolution. Do you have an idea based on the draft above for including your thoughts?

I’ve decided to drop this proposal in favor of Tretrid’s. If any Magister(s) prefers this draft over Tret’s, I’ll be willing to continue supporting this one. However, as of now I believe Tretrid’s is more fitting the format of a resolution and just does the job in a much simpler and clearer way.
