Roleplay Awards

?Roleplay Awards?

The world of roleplay is an anthology of poems and a collection of stories that stem from our imagination, experiences and wisdom that we use to frame an entire world. The enthusiasm with which players approach it, the frequency with which they participate, the emotion they evoke, the precision and technical knowledge that they display, the power with which they write and the thoughtfulness with which they report, are worthy of recognition. Each person has something different to contribute.

The Roleplay Awards are made with that purpose in mind: to recognise players and the work that they have done. With that in mind, the Roleplay Awards will comprise of the following awards:
[ul][li]Roleplayer of the Week
[li]Roleplay of the Week
[li]Character of the Month
[li]Broadcast of the Month
[li]Factbook of the Month[/li][/ul]

The conferral, structure and winners of these awards are at the discretion of and solely under the authority the Roleplay Moderator(s). This thread will be updated every time awards are displayed in the world factbook entry of [region]The East Pacific[/region] or issued in a region-wide telegram. The Roleplay Moderator(s) or any other designated member of the Roleplay Team will update this thread. Congratulations to all the winners!

1st Awards (Originally issued 15 November 2017)

[ul][li]Roleplayer of the Week is Stratarin for his intelligent exploration of the lives of assassins, the dynamic relationships between them and the internal conflicts that their work inevitably brings about. Notable work: Tales of Stratarin
[li]Roleplay of the Week is the Invasion of Adumara. In retribution for an attack on Chianski earlier in the year, the Fire Pact Alliance has declared war on and attempted to invade Adumara. The mettle of its leaders, the values of the soldiers, the stability of the international community, and the systems that govern power and order are tested in this riveting saga.[/li][/ul]

2nd Awards - 10 January 2018
[ul][li]BEST BROADCAST goes to Bai Lung. Bai Lung has maintained the longest news broadcast and longest single player thread in the history of TEP Evolved. In December, they concluded the epic trial of Richard Im, former President of Bai Lung, who was accused of corruption, embezzlement and racketeering. This complex RP is definitely a star worth recognising.
[li]BEST ROLEPLAYER goes to [nation] Kuthernburg[/nation] (known affectionately by the RP community as King Rico). His enthusiasm and commitment to the RP community are commendable. He has been an active participant and has greatly improved from the first day he arrived. We are happy to acknowledge your contributions.
[li]The BEST ROLEPLAY goes to Mending Wounds! After the end of the Auroran Pacific War, relations in Aurora have never been the same. In a noble attempt at reconciliation, the Emberitian president Nimona Poole called a conference that served to reveal the deep wounds that the war has caused and the scarred relations that may never heal.
[li]BEST CHARACTER goes to Woodrow Taft (written by [nation]Xagrurg[/nation] known to RPers as Jon). This strong-willed leader is a force to be reckoned with. His dignity is a far cry from High Commander Erwin Pipua and his intelligence is apparent as he tries to keep Xagrurg together and to reclaim her place in the world. Will he succeed or fail?
[li]BEST FACTBOOK goes to [nation]Masuicca[/nation]. In The Official Factbook of the Halcyon Empire, they explain the dynamics of their nation eloquently and somewhat poetically.[/li][/ul]

3rd Awards - 3 February 2018

[ul][li]Best Roleplayer goes to Reichsprasident Brunner ([nation]Neueburg[/nation]) for his excellent ability to develop believable characters and create a visually interesting space for them to inhabit. The comparisons that this player has used to contrast life in Neueburg and Kuthernburg, and how that has defined Neueburg’s people and politics is reflective of the fears that beleaguer dictatorial socialist states.
[li]Best Roleplay goes to two candidates as follows:

[ul][li]Decimation Book I: the Sanguine Horde is the first candidate. The mood and setting of the roleplay depicts much of the strife and difficulties that shaped conquest in the distant past. It portrays the difficulties that people faced and the challenges that they overcome, but also the inherent biases that shape, and subsequently limit their world views. The political agendas that motivate the war and define the state of the Halcyonic Empire after it are a sharp reminder that “war does not determine who is right, but who is left”.
[li]In the Wrong Hands is our second candidate. It reads like a crime thriller! Eridani Theta has been partitioned, with one part, the north, forming the new state of Ambravia while the south has been annexed by Fortuna. This roleplay portrays the challenges faced by civilians trying to negotiate their way through political problems vividly and realistically with clever devices such as “Mama Maria’s Homemade Peaches” being used to bring the ideas of corruption and theft from lofty social issues to tangible everyday problems. The moody policeman, the sudden shooting down of the helicopter and the mysterious briefcase that a trader finds form part of a grand scheme that we cannot wait to see completed.[/li][/ul]
[li]Best News Broadcast goes to Fernsehfunk der VRN (News from the People’s Republic of Neueburg) is an excellent example of how a news broadcast can also form a valid form of roleplay. It explores the lives of the people run by a paranoid and idealistic government (that is certainly far from ideal) and expands on the dynamics of how the country is run. Here we have an idea of the desire of the people to escape, the poor housing and infrastructure and economic and social conditions in a way that reads more like an exploratory essay than a report of current affairs.
This is ironic since it is dominated by state propaganda. Go figure!
[li]Best Character goes to Queen Lilith. In the words of a member of the roleplay team who shall not be named, “This chick is freaky!” In this post the character is fully formed. While tidbits of her existed here and there, in the above post she is fully fleshed out to brilliant effect. The complexity and possible damage of a woman who has been paranoid of dissent, who is afflicted by loneliness, and who is a total megalomaniac, comes together seamlessly with a sociopath with no regard for sentient life and an attractive, gorgeous lady. She operates outside of the norms of ordinary society. She inhabits her own space in which she is a goddess who controls the lives of all sentient-kind. Her unusual romance/attempted murder of the head of state of Furnifold is the cherry on top.[/li][/ul]

Well done to all the players and their contributions. Your work and passion does not go unnoticed.

4th Awards - 14 July 2018

[ul][li]Best Roleplayer goes to Zukchiva ([nation]Zukchiva[/nation]) for his dedication to improving himself and his roleplay ability both on the forums and game-side. His short time as a citizen has seen him grow beyond what was expected of him.

[li]Best Roleplay goes to The Empire where the Sun never sets. Depicting the historical events behind the evolution of the Morstaybishlian Empire, this roleplay thread is a long-running example in excellent characterization and situational planning by multiple users.

[li]Best News Broadcast goes to Xagrurgian National News Network Not only including information about Xagrurg, the XNNN broadcasts include events from other roleplay threads in the form of international news, and is an excellent place for users to visit if they want to brush up on both current events and RP history.

[li]Best Character goes to Anastas Beyri. The controversial rise of this man to the leadership of Noberea has been documented in this thread gives readers a glimpse into the dedicated and ruthless persona that seems to lurk just under the surface. Follow his journey in the future and you will likely not be disappointed.

[li]Best Factbook goes to Nova-Columbia. An in-depth and professionally organized factbook is impressive, but doing so on the platform Nationstates provides is even moreso. The formatting and content herein is a fine example for others looking for ideas.
