Requirements for Successfully Rping:

  1. Comprehension of the Rules
New RPers are in the habit of godmodding and telling the actions of their nations, instead of showing with narrative storytelling. One can advise them to read the rules, but knowing how to implement them takes practice.

  2. Realistic National Factbooks
Some players create nations with unrealistic characteristics, such as an army consisting of 100% of eligible persons–leaving no one for manufacturing, research & development, education, etc. There are guides, but there are many, many guides and they are all quite long. Some may give up, others may skip reading them, while others may not care to follow their advice.

  3. Creative Roleplays
Simply stated, players need a setting for the story which allows them to interact using the same rules–but that won’t keep players active. Rpers currently have limitless freedom, but there aren’t many ongoing RPs. They need direction: the opportunity for conflict and the need for allies (interaction).

Moderation & Duties:

  1. Forum Access
All RPers will now require the Roleplay Access (outside of “Nation Creation” forum). It is a joinable group that will be managed by RP Mentors (The Admin team when needed). People who have posted in RP within the last few months, I have already invited to the group. FYI: Joinable Groups is under Preferences and Profile Options.

  2. Moderation
The RP doesn’t need more moderators of the RP, it needs active “mentors” to approve new nations by moving their map threads to the Regional Atlas forum, factbooks to the National Factbooks forum, and character threads to the Character Database forum.

Factbooks and characters should initially use standardized forms [created by RP Mentors] that will apply to new players. After they are approved, it won’t matter if they stop using the forms since further attention is not required because they already filled out the forms with the essential information and thus know all the essential information. While this sounds like a lot of work, it actually minimizes the work.

RP Mentors will have Forum Moderation access but will not be true Mods. They will have no judgment ability but more of a suggestive role. That will be left up to The Admin Team. Mentors will not need to teach RPers how to create a nation, and will have just one place to look for new nations that need to be approved, including questions.

This means people will largely help themselves, just like visiting ambassadors help themselves by first applying for diplomatic masking (simply so we know who is an ambassador, not because it has any practical importance), and then applying for an embassy (so there is one place to check and they will see other requests have been refused in case their own has to be refused as well).

RP Mentor Program
1-2 people wanted (more would be accepted if needed).
This will require someone who is active and willing to take on the tasks mentioned above

Send me a PM with how you plan to contribute to the role.

The below positions are part of the NationSpeak Initiative (no April Fool’s). It just allows people to have input on ideas and what not for the forum.

Forum Design Consultant/Webpage Adviser (can be either or)
1-2 people wanted.
Do you like to design themes? Do you like holiday themes? Have experience with ZetaBoards, HTML, JS, make suggestions, develop and/or redesign webpages. Made possible on a test forum or via doowikis (embedded wiki-like page – the newspaper & admin webpage was done with doowikis). To make webpages visible on all themes, they have to be done in tables (event with doowikis – blame ZB but hey free is free. I like free).

Send me a PM what what you want to do and how you plan to contribute. Not much oversight and can’t say you will have something to do all the time but I have a couple of ideas.

Footnotes:
RP Restructure was based on http://theeastpacific.com/single/?p=8021745&t=5181030 and this is OF’s http://theeastpacific.com/single/?p=8021093&t=5181030 that can be used in RP but will not hold an official status.

Forums currently closed will be opened when we get RP Mentors. At that time the changes in Forum Access will happen.

RP Mentor/Consultant/Adviser positions are Non-Commissioned Admin Roles. What does that mean? You are not an Admin/Mod but you will be part of the Admin Team & will get a place on http://theeastpacific.com/pages/staff.

Update

GE and OF have been accepted as RP Mentors. Expected RP switch to the new system is being worked on and is expected to happen no later than 4/15.

Milo has been accepted as a Forum Design Consultant.

Embassies and Character Database is now open and our RP Mentors have full access to run the RP section.

Happy creating!
