RP: Should be held accountable

I’m not writing this up as an act. If you don’t like the fact that I don’t feel like writing this as an act, eat a tubesock.

Since when I first joined the forums here, years and years ago, I’ve had a serious thought in my brain. It’s one I’ve not voiced as I’ve not thought it’d have any chance of coming true, but I’m tired of not voicing it, especially when we’ve supposedly got such a more democratic system.

I think that the RP section -should- be held accountable by the rest of the region, and the government, but not in a sense of ‘lolol the magisterial can make all sorts of bonkers rules the RP section has to RPers have to follow even if the magistrates who voted it in never RP.’

No, I’m not suggesting that. I’m suggesting a fundamental shift in thinking in our government, and indeed in our region, on two things. The first? While the Admins should be a separate branch of government, as they are now, and are free to have their own ability to do things, there should be more accountability, or at least a move to make things more balanced, at least in the RP area. Don’t get me wrong, Kand is a good RPer and a Good RP Admin, in my eyes, but I think so much more could be done if there were 2, or [3?] RP admins. I think that they should be voted in, too, if there’s not an amount of suspicion that they’re an invader, and if they actually -RP-.

Beyond that, and separate from it, I think we should find a more personable way to defuse RP problems. As an experience RP mod, I know for a fact that people can and will leave when they’re told something they don’t like. Likewise, they can and will leave if they feel they’re being picked on. Our current system makes it seem like they are, as despite how mostly unbiased I feel Kand is, many do not. So what do you do about RP arguments and spats? You let the other RPers, the other citizens, defuse it and handle it. Yes, it’ll take longer.

But if you create a new subforum for a RP jury, and allow every citizen who wants to be active in to be active in it, then you’ll take some of the burden of responsibility and power from Kand, and you’ll make things fairer and seem fairer. It won’t be someone ganging up on someone else with the RP admin’s help, or some RP mods, or whatever. It’ll be their fellow citizens deciding who’s right or wrong in a case of godmodding or someone going ‘too extreme’ with their actions or their nation’s power. Anyone will be able to start a thread in this area, so long as they are civil and not trying to trash talk.

I agree there should probably be another person to help out whenever kand isn’t on, that is if he’s cool with it.

Although a RP jury? I don’t know about that. If OUR system already makes people feel picked on then won’t a ‘jury’ exacerbate the problem?

No, because it’d allow them to air their feelings on the matter too, and they’d be able to see the Jury debate the matter, as opposed to not see the logic behind it.

This is all too much work for simple silliness.
Im at a loss in logic, to even hear that there are arguments in RP.
Considering its not even real in most cases, why argue?
You can just sit in your own happy world, not being mean or anything to those who RP. But honestly, I think everything is fine the way it is.
Over-complicating simplicity isnt something I would want to see.

First off, I thank you, Warre, for opening up discussion to the Magisters and people in the region. Since this concerns the region as a whole, I am glad there is a section for non-Magisters to hash things out.

That being said, I believe the existence of 2-3 RP admins would be beneficial. IF only from the standpoint that it gives someone a variety, ie, the whole ‘two heads are better than one’ approach. But, it is crucial to select someone (or some people) who is/are active often and would be able to offer their input upon any given situation.

As for a RP jury, I would have to think this over. As in the conclave situation, if someone is tried for a crime, even if they are found innocent it is still kind of a mark on their character. I personally believe if the manner can be dealt with privately, it should be done so, but if it appears that even private conversation cannot do anything to deter the ill feelings or tense atmosphere, then yes, I agree an option that should be explored is whether or not it merits a large audience. If it is found that this is indeed the case, then sufficient protocol should be carried out whereby a jury-type scenario should be established.

I also agree as to what is being said in the other thread - any admin or RP admin or whatever should be agreed upon by at least a near unanimous vote.

First of all, let me say that you’re going to need this in some form or another. I like doing the RP admin job and I’ve been content with it as a mostly hands-off role, observing and intervening only when strictly necessary. But the unavoidable fact is that there are times that I’m not on, and there are going to be a lot more of them soon. I don’t talk about my life much (to the point that I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve left the impression in some circles that I don’t have one) but come this fall, I’m going to be part of a graduate program whose defining factor is its sheer unrelenting ruthlessness. I’ll still be around and tracking RPs, and I’ll reassess it if turns out I overestimated the actual degree of time and devotion it takes, but my “all day, every day” availability that people are used to is going to go away, and I’m going to need backup.

Likewise, having multiple people doing the job is not without precedent. I was RP Mod under RP Admin FPS for at least a year, and I can think of any number of people who I know would do a RP mod/admin job well and would be glad to suggest to the Magisterium (or the existing mods/admins if we’re doing it the old way, though I understand that method is under debate right now).

The idea of a RP jury does have merit as well, though of course (If I understand the original suggestion correctly) we wouldn’t actually be calling it a jury. Even with multiple RP admins or a RP admin and multiple RP mods, there’s still the question of the objectivity of whichever mod is on the case. Having RP disputes handled by a body of veteran RPers to which RPers are inducted after enough time/skill/involvement/whatever would distribute the responsibility while allowing members of the region to feel involved and have an opportunity to contribute. I will add, however, that in our expectations for such a body it should be remembered that if it is doing its job right it will probably not be called on much, resembling the reactive behavior of the Conclave far more than the proactive behavior that is expected of the Magisterium. Like the Conclave, this will look an awful lot like chronic inactivity whether the group is actually inactive or not.

I don’t like that one bit… if someone came to me in private to discuss a problem that was created by my RPing, i would be fine. the last thing i wanna see is it being reviewed in a damn sub-forum.

it just seems to me that if we do that then no one here is capable of handling their problems with the person who caused it in a personal, private matter.

This is why the RP admin role (and presumably, any expansion or replacement of it) is mostly hands-off and involves intervening only when necessary. The overwhelming majority of RP disputes begin and end in the PM boxes of the concerned parties. Only when this option is exhausted has anyone sought mediation.

Im giggling inside that you all would argue over RP in the first place.

Giggle giggle.
