Shiro Academy

Lena’s eyes widened when Sha’la’s bedsheet fell. “Wow…She’s perfect as a model!” Lena’s mind began to come up with ideas for some artwork while Sha’la quickly got changed.

While listening to Sha’la’s ramblings and lecture on cocktails, Lena wondered if it was a good idea to ever go partying with her. However, Lena’s ears pressed against her head when Sha’la declined to be her model. Then, to her surprise, the half-neko quickly ran before she threw up. “Ugh…Okay,” was the only thing Lena could think of to say when she heard the sound of retching. When Luh’ciia appeared, Lena wondered if this was normal here. Then, Luh’ciia offered to be Lena’s model.

Lena’s tail wagged as she smiled. “Thank you! I really appreciate it, Luh’ciia.” After Sha’la moaned again, Lena then continued, “If it’s alright, we could do some tonight, if your schedule allows it that is. By the way, when do classes start? I thought the registration officer said that they start tomorrow, but I can’t seem to recall. Oh, I asked about a roommate, but they told me that I would just have to ask around for one, because, well, they messed up. I had asked for a roommate, but they forgot to assign me one.”

Lena then thought about something. “Before we do some art tonight, I need to have a look at you. Do you have time?”

“Eh? Sure,” Luh’ciia said, “I think classes do start tomorrow. As for a room mate, I’m sure someone will turn up eventually. I wouldn’t mind but…”

Luh’ciia turned slightly to indicate Sha’la, who was still moaning.
“…yeah…when Nee’la is away, someone needs to watch her…” Luh’ciia sighed, “…Oh yeah! I am free tonight so just tell me when you need me.”

Luh’ciia then noticed Nee’la appearing at the top of the stairs.
“Hey Luh’ciia,” Nee’la greeted, “Forgot some of my files…oh dear…” Nee’la put her hands on her hips and tutted on the sight of Sha’la. She then looked at the bucket and cottoned onto what had happened.
“Seriously, Sha’la, you will destroy your liver one of these days! You need to stop drinking so much!”
“Urgh…” Sha’la only managed before collapsing into a heap on the floor, prompting Nee’la to walk over and help her back in.
“Really…what are you? 18? Trying to relive your misspent youth?”
“…shut…up…not…in…the…mood…ergh…”[hr]“I don’t believe it! I really don’t! They just wrecked that server and it won’t be coming back until tomorrow!” Trevor raged as he replaced the telephone handset, “I’ve got a right mind to strangle all those Tilden engineers!”

Trevor then sighed.
“Is Ella still around?” he asked Fred.
“Ella? Our IT junior? She left to go on a flight to Tilden.”
“When she arrives, tell her to try to get give those techs at Tilden a good kicking. I’m really fed up of them breaking things.”
“Will do…”

Lena nodded. “Tonight it is then. My first class isn’t until 11:30 AM. It’s Advanced Information Technology. I’m really good with computers and programming.”

After Sha’la’s little outburst, Lena asked, “Is she always like this?” Lena pointed at the room with Sha’la. “I’ve never seen a hangover like that before, and I’ve only had one, and that was enough for me.” Lena then began to rethink her idea of partying with her. “I’m surprised she’s still here. Back home, if you got a hangover like that, you would be in serious hot water.” Then Lena thought about something. “By the way, I’ve noticed some of you have military ranks. Are you in the military?” Lena had thought about joining the military, maybe as a field computer specialist. Both her parents had been in the air force, so she didn’t see any reason why she shouldn’t.

“I’m a Colour Sergeant in the Royal Dannistrian Marines,” Luh’ciia perked up, “Nee’la is a Corporal in the Dannistrian Army. As for Sha’la…”
“She is a Lieutenant, believe it or not,” Nee’la answered as she filled up a glass with some water and dropped two effervescent tablets into the glass, “In the Army as well. She is meant to be one of the strongest, smartest soldiers in the army…a pity she drinks like a fish…”

Nee’la handed the glass to Sha’la. As Sha’la gulped down the painkillers slowly, Nee’la shook her head in disbelief.
“Yes, she has gotten into trouble with the top brass back home in Dannistaan. Does she care? Well, not really…the top brass only tolerate her as she is a very experienced and talented solider…when she isn’t trying to cause her liver to self-destruct…”

Sha’la silently thanked Nee’la on handing the glass back.
“…yeah…also her hard partying lifestyle and generally annoying attitude pissed off an ex-boyfriend…”
“I’m not…annoying…most of the…time…” Sha’la managed to protest feebly.
Nee’la rolled her eyes at Luh’ciia and Lena.
“Right, I need to head, I’ll grab my files…keep an eye on her Luh’ciia…”
“Will do!” Luh’ciia chirped.

As Nee’la left with her files, Luh’ciia smiled.
“Most of the Dannistrians in Shiro are military personnel. We have a few guys, one from the Royal Dannistrian Airforce and a couple of Dannistrian Army soldiers as well. One is, as Nee’la said, Sha’la’s ex-boyfriend. Take one guess why he is no longer dating Sha’la.”

“I’m going to have to guess that he didn’t tolerate her fun-loving nature,” Lena said. “Speaking of the military, I’m thinking of joining my nation’s Ground Forces after here. I transferred from another university back home to take some additional classes. Luckily, Shiro offered me a scholarship to take some classes here. My parents wouldn’t have been able to afford to send me here if not for that scholarship. Of course, I’ve always been an excellent student.” Lena smiled as she brushed aside a lock of hair. “So, who is Sha’la’s ex?” Lena was curious and interested in meeting him. “Wonder if he’s cute.”

“I don’t know to be honest. I’ve never really met him,” Luh’ciia replied, “Only bumped into him a couple of times and that was in passing. I’m not even sure if he is still attending Shiro. Last I heard, he was being some sort of tutor back home for the mech pilots there.”[hr]Ella Rah’nh cursed the mistiming of her flight. She had been moved to an earlier one without warning by the airline and almost missed it as a result. Only a lot of running, followed by some swearing allowed her to catch the flight. The compensation of an upgrade to Business Class softened the blow slightly. But she was still feeling a bit bitter. She made a mental note to never fly with that airline again. Tired and stressed out, she had her paperwork checked in at the reception, collected her key for her room and headed to the elevator. She promptly cursed at the sign indicating that it wasn’t working and hauled her heavy bags up the staircase. On reaching the top, she noticed two people, one seemingly tailless nekomimi and one wolf like creature standing near her room. Slowly she dragged her bags towards the door and nervously asked, “Excuse me, sorry to bother you two, but do you know if this is my room?” Ella said, showing her paperwork.

“Mech pilot? You mean like a battlesuits and giant robots!?”

“Hey, some of us are trying to study! Keep it down will you!?”

Remembering herself, Lena continued after apologizing to the offended student, “What kind of mechs are we talking about? I’m very interested.”

Lena looked at the blond haired human woman and smiled. “Ah, looks like they found a roommate for me. My name is Lena Elene from Vulshain. It’s nice to meet you. This is Colour Sergeant Luh’ciia Imahara-Con’tii, and the moaning you’re hearing is from our party-loving next door neighbor Lieutenant Sha’la Hasegawa-Am’ara. What is your name?” Seeing her dragging her bags, Lena helped her. “Here, let me help you with those.” Lena easily picked up both bags.

“Thank you,” Ella replied. After her bags had been stowed away, she promptly grabbed a laptop computer and sat on the bed. She started typing furiously. Lena and Luh’ciia looked on confused. Ella then sighed and continued some more typing.

“My apologies if I seem rude,” Ella finally spoke after several minutes, “My boss back at the Little Shiro Campus in Dannistaan probably hates me. He’s been trying to call me several times when I got here. My name is Ella Rah’n,” Ella put the computer aside, stood up to shake Lena and Luh’ciia’s hands and sat back down straight after to continue typing, “Nonononono…geez…I just got here! Nononono…hmph…”

Ella sighed again before looking up at Lena and Luh’ciia.
“Do you happen to know where the main server datacentre is on the campus? I heard they moved it the last time I was here.”

“Main server datacentre? Sorry, but I just got here myself actually. You might want to ask Luh’ciia. So, I take it you’re a computer major too. Same here. I’m taking a double major in comptuer science and physics, but my minor is in art.”

“By the way, Luh’ciia. Is Sha’la going to be alright? I mean that must be one nasty hangover she’s having.”

“Err…not quite…Postdoctoral IT research actually,” Ella replied, “Well, I say ‘Postdoctoral’. I’m treated more like a handy person who runs around trying to fix things. Anyway, I need to find them as my boss, the professor back at Little Shiro says the techs here broke some servers and I need to fix them…again…”

Ella sighed. She then looked at Luh’ciia expecting her to know where the servers are.
“Err…pass?” Luh’ciia shrugged, “I wouldn’t know. I’m here doing Applied Chemistry so I have no idea to be honest.”

Ella sighed again. She then picked up her laptop and a shoulder bag and walked out the room, “I’ll go ask downstairs then. I’ll see you guys later. Gotta run.”

Ella dashed down the stairs. Luh’ciia paused.
“I get the feeling this room mate may not be spending much time in the room, to be honest. And Sha’la will be fine. I’ve seen her in a worse state. Really. She has been more drunk than this. And anyway, it’s fine if she is complaining. You only worry when she is totally silent. Trust me on this. I’ve been staying with her and Nee’la long enough to know.”

Lena tried to say goodbye to Ella, but the human was gone before she could say anything. “Ella moves fast though, but I don’t mind. It’s nice to have someone I can carry a conversation about computers and programs with. Hm…I guess we can do some poses while she’s gone. Let’s get started if you’re up to it.”

Lena went in and got some art supplies out, which consisted of paper and some pencils.

“No problem!” Luh’ciia chirped. She struck a random pose, standing very still in her “standing guard” posture, as if defending a doorway. She waited for Lena to start drawing as she did so.

Lena quickly got to work, drawing Luh’ciia standing guard. “Excellent pose. You should really consider being full-time art model.” Lena finished her drawing. “There finished.” She motioned Luh’ciia to take a look. The drawing had captured every detail, even her fur was captured perfectly.

Luh’ciia giggled.
“Nice! I did think about being a model at some point, but my parents wanted me to do something more practical and ended up forcing me into the Marines. I kind of ended up here to do something less violent as it were…that reminds me, I better go check on Sha’la…”

Luh’ciia wandered back into her own room to find Sha’la sitting in her bed, drinking a large cup of coffee.
“Feeling any better?” Luh’ciia asked. Sha’la groaned and shook her head.
“Not as bad as earlier but I still feel like I’ve been run over by a truck…and a bus…and a taxi…all at once.”
“I’m not surprised. You need to stop drinking so much.”
“I’ve been worse. You know that…” Sha’la took another sip from her coffee, blowing it cool every so often. Luh’ciia sighed.
“Maybe so, but I still think you are crazy!”

Lena nodded, allowing Luh’ciia to go check on Sha’la. She still needed some more drawings though.

“Call me crazy, but I will keep partying hard as long as I can,” Sha’la said defiantly, “Besides, you ultimately only have one shot at life and I intend to live that one shot to the fullest.”
Luh’ciia shrugged.
“Well, if you say so. You think you’ll be OK for now?”
“Yeah…yeah…I’ll be OK…I’ll not be heading off to any other parties any time soon.”
Luh’ciia nodded and headed back to Lena’s room.
“She’s fine,” Luh’ciia nodded at Lena, “Do you have anything else to do?”[hr]Ella sighed as she looked around the server room. Several technicians were running around trying to disassemble and reassemble computers.
“You do realise my bosses back in Dannistaan are quite annoyed?” she asked the technicians. The technicians shrugged, “Just doing our job madam.”
Ella sighed and tutted. She then set up her laptop and started typing on it furiously. She then asked one of the technicians if she can borrow a phone…

Lena thought for a moment. “Well, I need to do some drawings of you without clothes on. You can lay down on my bed if you like.” Lena sat down cross-legged on the floor waiting for Luh’ciia to get undressed. “Don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything sexual. I’m not going to make you do anything that you’re not comfortable with. If I have you do a pose, and you’re not comfortable with it, we don’t have to do that pose.”

Luh’ciia giggled.
“Obviously you’ve never been on a Dannistrian Marine training course,” she laughed as she started to undress, “Although I guess training in ridiculously warm weather helps too. Besides, I’m fine with nude modelling. I’ve done it before far too many times to care. If you behave, I might be open to some hijinks,” she joked.

Luh’ciia then folded up her clothes into a neat pile and sat on the bed. As with most nekomimis from Dannistaan, any body hair was restricted to her upper arms and the lower half of her shins.
“Before you ask, no I don’t wax or shave. And you better be quick in case Sha’la sees and gets the wrong idea!” Luh’ciia joked again.

Lena laughed a bit. “Oh please! You should travel to Keoparu, one of our cities. The beach front area you can walk around topless!” She laughed again at the waxing and shaving joke. “Oh I would never ask that! Besides, you look just fine without doing those things!” Lena went to drawing her some. She smiled at the hijinks joke. “I think you overestimate Sha’la. Who’s going to believe someone who drinks until she can’t see straight?” Lena joked.

Lena finished that drawing. “Okay, turn around and hold your arms above your head. By the way, you got lovely fur. If you like I could give you some art lessons. I might even pose for you naked.” Lena giggled. Lena really liked Luh’ciia, seeing her as her first friend at Shiro.

“I’m sorry that you hold me in such low regard,” a familiar voice said sarcastically.

Luh’ciia and Lena turned around to see Sha’la standing in the door way. She was showing little sign of her previous drunken malaise.
“Sha’la?” Luh’ciia looked concerned, “Why are you up?”
“Fast metabolism,” Sha’la said in a matter of fact tone, “Gotta love it.”
“Err…I don’t think it works that way…”
“Well, it does for me!” Sha’la folded her arms and held her head up in mock disdain, “I’ll also have you know when you both were barely out of your diapers, I was learning how to handle heavy ordnance and how to kill a man from fifty paces. Barehanded. And as for my abilities when I’m inebriated…”
“Oh no…” Luh’ciia put her hand to her face in disbelief, “Not this story again…”
“…I’ll have you know exactly two months ago to the day, I was far more drunk than this and took on three. Adult. Males. All of whom where bigger than me and I still won! If you don’t believe me, ask Nee’la when she gets back. She was there…”
“And me…” Luh’ciia added in a shamed tone.
“In fact, forget asking Nee’la! Watch this!”

Sha’la brought out her cellphone, started tapping a few buttons on it, and then turned it around to show a video on it. It depicted Sha’la, looking incredibly worse than her condition earlier, maintaining a fighting stance in a dive bar. Some laughter and cheering, along with Nee’la yelling at Sha’la to stand down, could be barely made out from the phones tinny speakers. Three burly men charged at and restrained Sha’la before punching her. After a few seconds, two of the men were suddenly thrown over Sha’la’s shoulders while the over was kicked in the stomach by her, before a powerful blow with an audible bone crack sent the assailant flying into a pile of tables, much to the laughter of the crowd. The video ended at that point.

Luh’ciia could only cringe.
“I must admit that’s the first I’ve seen of that video. Also, that hurt just watching it.”
“I’ll admit my hand was pretty sore after that,” Sha’la said as she put away her phone, “And I also admit that spending the night in a police station put a dampener on that evening. Before you dismiss me as some sort of bottle fairy, however!” Sha’la held up a finger to silence Lena and Luh’ciia before they could respond, “I’ll show you evidence that I am a good soldier and more than just a, pardon the pun, party animal!”

Luh’ciia sighed, leaned over to Lena and said, “She means she is going to show all her military decorations. ALL of them. Sigh…”
