Syrtænzna

This is a joint claim between SocDyl, Cowlass and Norgs in vain of creating an area which culturally intersects Nystatiszna, Blåskog and Kæra’zna, as well as providing an interesting RP Opportunity for The Compact. All three of us have worked on creating this claim and will continue to cooperate on such going into the wikis and rps surrounding it, including conflict between it and the Compact.

Historical Summary:

Though different small petty Zrei and Tiefling kingdoms existed in most parts of what is considered modern day Syrtænzna, it was however during the 1200s when elven vikings from Blåskog started to settle in the region mostly around the lake area in which they called after Harald the Ruthless, Harald’s innsjø. Harald the Ruthless was said to be one of the first Jarls in Syrtænzna, founding the city of Eribyen, named after his wife Eri. With the Jarls being mostly loyal with the Kingdom of Vestskog, in the western part of modern Blåskog.

The different viking jarls tried to expand more northwards but found stiff resistance from the native Zrei and Tiefling kingdoms, which later formed a northern kingdom called Rilans Arutat (Kingdoms of the north). To counter the newly created state, and the loss of their ally of Vestskog in 1464, the viking jarls created an unified Jarldom of Ragnarstat in 1469. Though neither side was available to expand to the other. Which stayed mostly the same until late 1700s in which the newly formed Kingdom of Blåskog gave its support to the Jarldom, by 1822 Ragnarstat was available to conquer Rilans Arutat with its support from Blåskog. However in return Blåskog demanded they swear loyalty to the king of Blåskog, and became crownlands, though the Jarls were allowed to keep their own lands and titles.

However, after famine caused by mismanagement of the Blåskovian crown, forced religious deportation of nekomimi to their crown lands. The people within Syrtænzna started gaining their own national identity, which escalated when mass nationalist protests erupted on 9th of November 1881 in the city of Eribyen killing the Jarl Harald of Eribyen, occupying the entire city and proclaiming Republic of Syrtænzna. After the declaration similar protests and movements took control over the entire nation, leading to a violent war of independence against Blåskog which went on for 6 years until all of Blåskog’s forces had to leave. With the republic executing the remaining jarls that were not available to escape into Blåskog.

The new republic became a safe haven for refugees coming from Kæra’zna after the Nylic Revolution, as well as Nystatiszna, with especially many nekomimi calling the nation home during the slave revolts in Nystatiszna during late 1800s and early 1900s. Though stable for the first 20 years of its independence with rather economic growth, it was overshadowed by territorial loss to Blåskog after Blåskog occupied most of Ragnarstat during the great war.

Which was then overshadowed once again by the bush wars with Nystatiszna during the 1930s (wip), the republic found itself once again on unstable footing. To deal with the ethnic diversity of Syrtænzna, President Erik Tyrstin reorganised Syrtænzna into the Federal Republic of Syrtænzna in1954, giving the biggest ethnic groups equal say in the federation. With this new federation it was available to win back its territorial loss to Blåskog in 1964, it reintegrated the rest Ragnarstat into the federation boosting its economy and population massively. Thanks to this victory many saw Syrtænzna’s future to be bright, and between 1964 to 1984 that future was seen as becoming the reality. But by the 90s and early 2000s Syrtænzna had to deal with Blåskovian backed separatists and hostile neighbours which had completely halted their economy, and put them in a downward spiral.
