TEP Space Station

General Director Rukh Langaseri of the Vulshainian Confederate Space Aeronautics and Exploration Agency (CSAEA) looked over the designs, schematics, and notes of Project Director and Major Ferssia Katacsio. “And you’re sure this will work?”

“Of course, General Director Langaseri. I’m sure,” she answered with a smile, her tail wagging with great confidence. She continued to smile at the head of the CSAEA, Vulshain’s space agency. Of course, unlike Rukh, who was a civilian, she was a member of the Vulshainian Confederate Space Forces, the branch of the Confederate Armed Forces in charge of military space operations. Her red and black uniform clashed with her sandy brown hair, as well as her gold and white fur.

Nodding, he turned back to look at the designs. “You do know that while I appreciate the Space Forces’ assistance, the CSAEA seeks to further peaceful cooperation with itself and the other space agencies of the East Pacific, Major Katacsio. Thus, this is not a military venture, but a project to further peace, hope, and cooperation between all nations. Very well, it seems sound and a great idea.”

She smiled, although in the back of her mind she was cursing him out. “Just because I’m an Anireptian, doesn’t give you the right to talk to me that way!” She nodded him, gathered the files and designs, and walked out of his office. After she left, Rukh, scratched his muzzle. He had to admit that she was brilliant and smart, but she was wasting her talents working for the Space Forces, designing tools of destruction. “Oh well, it’s her decision I guess,” he told himself. Turning to his computer, he started sending an invitation to various space agencies in the East Pacific.

OOC: BTW, Anireptians are a Vulshainian ethnic group originating from northern Vulshain, and are known for their strong military heritage and exceptional rough-riding horsemanship, amazing skills in weaving, and love of dance and music. They are also known for their strong Royalist attitudes. However, they are not known for their feats in engineering, so Ferssia is quite a sight. And that’s your Vulshainian history lesson for the day! Oh, and any nation may join this.

Rukh smiled as he sent the reply to Director Li. A few seconds later, his secretary called him to let him know that a package had arrived for him. “Thank you, Ms. Muriel Eileen Ayala.” The package was a present of a dozen red roses. Rukh was stunned. “Who would send me roses?” He picked up the card and read it. It read:

OOC: East Malaysia, Kangarawa, Free Pacific States, and Drakkengard, sorry for being late, but today was the day I switch out my clothes, and it took me longer than I thought. Anyways, if it’s okay, just have your characters waiting at the Valdira International Airport in Kitsuniva. There, an aide for General Director Rukh Langaseri will arrive and apologize for being late, as the General Director had some emergencies to take care of. Then, the aide will take your characters to the CSAEA in the Alisi Administrative Division, Courrind District of Kitsuniva, where the headquarters of the CSAEA is located.

Again, sorry for being late.

Westlake tried to hide his impatience as he checked the airport clock for what seemed the hundredth time before walking back to the windows. Tardiness was simply unacceptable. Had the President not insisted on his personal presence he’d not have to come. His chosen “companions”, an engineer, a biogeneticist and an accountant simply sat, two of the three on their laptops and the third leafing through a magazine. He had nothing in common with them despite needing their expertise at times. He was the financier while they were merely his employees. He had no desire to discuss the how’s of building the space station, only the uses once it was up and functional.

Diane Isabelle Cross spotted the representatives from Kangarawa. She walked over to the one she assumed to be Dr. Raymond Westlake. “Dr. Raymond Westlake? I am Diane Isabelle Cross, an assistant to General Director Rukh Langaseri. He apologizes for the lateness, but there were some emergencies that suddenly came up. He sent me to take you straight to the CSAEA in the Alisi Administrative Division, Courrind District.” She nodded to four members of the CSAEA to help the Kangarawa delegates with their bags. “If you will please follow me, we will take you straight there. I’m afraid the other representatives haven’t arrived just yet.”

Re: The East Pacific Space Station.

As you may have heard, my nation has recently undergone a change in policy regarding extranational cooperation. With the end of the state policy of isolationism, we at AEDST have been examining our options for space exploration. We have heard through diplomatic channels of the establishment of a multinational space station and would like to know if and when we would be able to send up a biology expert and a physics expert from the Advanced Academy of New Dallas to perform a few experiments. If you could respond, we can set up a timeline for choosing and preparing our experts and designing and preparing the experiments to be performed. Also, should you require any assistance regarding the space station, consider my door open. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Rukh Langaseri groaned as he hung up the phone. “Just my luck that my damn sister goes and get herself wasted and put into a body bag after a rave gone bad, and she leaves me in custody of her three-year old daughter.” Sighing, he got up and looked outside at his little niece, being innocent and sweet, simply drawing and coloring. Rukh rubbed his eyes.

“Oh Den Mother, have mercy on my sister’s soul.” Rukh had warned his sister to quit her DJ job, cautioning her about the dangers that often took place at raves, but she would always tell him that she needed the money, and now he knew why. Rukh knew his sister fooled around with some of the rave club members, but he had no idea she had given birth to a daughter. Now, his sister was dead after some punk high on whatever St. Emir knew what and thought he could do whatever he wanted to and decided to shot up the place. Sighing again, he went back to his desk and read a new email.

He began typing a response:

Dear Phillip Carpenter, Chief of the Aerospace Exploration Divison of the Science and Technology Bureau (AEDST), East Spiralia,

Thank you for your interest in this project to promote peaceful cooperation among the nations of the East Pacific.  You may send a biology expert and a physics expert from the Advanced Academy of New Dallas as well as any experiments you would like to bring with you to Vulshain as soon as possible.  I apologize for the rush, but because of a sudden emergency that required my attention, the meeting was disrupted, but you are welcome to come.  Vulshain would be honored if you join in this endeavor.

Sincerely,

General Director Rukh Langaseri of the Vulshainian Confederate Space Aeronautics and Exploration Agency (CSAEA)

Sighing once more after sending the message, Rukh wondered what he was going to do with a three-year old kit. “Den Mother and St. Emir help me…”

Background on races: East Spiralia is an island chain that was colonized and rebelled from the Texas Empire, thus, whites make up about 30% and native islanders (think Hawaiian) made up 50%, with 20% mixed, with a few Hispanics and blacks.

AEDST Headquarters, New Dallas, East Spiralia.

Phillip Carpenter sits at a table with Andrew Shepperd and Jerri Gillespie. Shepperd is a professor and Ph.D. of physics, a white man of 37 with short, wavy brown hair and blue eyes, and a fit build of 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. He has an extensive background in astrophysics and quantum theory, he is one of East Spiralia’s leading pioneers in String Theory. He is a music lover and science-fiction author. Jerri is a graduate student of biology, a native Spiralian female of 29 with long brown hair and brown eyes, with a curvy but slim figure and a height of 5’6". She is preparing her thesis for her doctorate in biology and is studying plant growth in zero gravity, and trying to create food that can be grown in space for long term missions. Always smiling and cheerful, she is a happy soul who is always fun to be around.

Phillip cleared his throat and began. “So, we’ve received confirmation that your trip to the space station will proceed as planned. Your experiments are prepared?”

Both answered “Yes, sir.”

“Good. You are to be on the plane to Vulshain at 9 tomorrow morning, packed and ready to go with all the equipment you will need. Doable?”

“Yes, sir.” came the quick reply.

“This ain’t the military, we’re a civilian outfit here! Cut out the sir’s or I’ll cut out your tongues, get me?” Phillip asked tersely, his Texas accent showing through in his frustration at the illogical obedience the two astronauts were giving him.

“Yes, si… er… OK.” said Andrew. Jerri chuckled lightly at his slip-up.

“Ah, get outta here and go celebrate, you’re going to space. I know I’d celebrate.”
He dismissed them with a wave of his hand and started to read a briefing on the equipment being loaded onto the Academy’s VTOL plane.

The two left the room and closed the door behind them, then stood still for a moment before hugging and yelling at the same time “WE’RE GOING TO SPACE!!!”

Anton Dubchevik sat at the head of the conference table.

“Do we have an agreement?” Dubchevik slowly turned his head as he looked around the dimly lit room. Hadruss, Fedorov, Teligo, and all the other corporate representatives were all sitting with a serious look on their faces. All nodded their approval.

“I don’t see why not,” Fedorov piped up. “It’s a mission of peace. Surely this would boost our reputation, or at least allow us to cooperate with other countries. Just one thing though sir,” Fedorov said while standing up. “Let me handle it. I’ve dealt with orbital technology before.”

Fedorov headed to his office to type up the proposition letter.

Good day to you sir. My name is Sergei Fedorov, standing Defense Director of the Conglomerate of Raedion-Lucari - I believe our nations have already met. I might have an interesting proposition for you.

Space stations are notoriously difficult to maintain, but my men and I have dealt with maintenance on orbital platforms before. Perhaps we could help maintain the station, for a nominal fee - Maintenance materials don’t come for free, of course. We’d be happy to help maintain this symbol of peace for the East Pacific. If you’re interested in having us help, please contact me again.

Sincerely,
Sergei Fedorov
Director of Defense, the Veranian Conglomerate of Raedion-Lucari

Fedorov typed the last period, and looked over his work before he sent it. There was no need to send scientists to the station - the corporate scientists have already done enough experiments in zero gravity.

Thank you for the generous offer.  The Confederacy of Vulshain is grateful for your willingness to join and assist in this project of interregional cooperation.  You may come to a meeting that I am hosting between the Confederate Space Aeronautics and Exploration Agency (CSAEA) and other delegates from several other nation’s space agencies.  I hope to see you here.

Again, thank you.

Major Ferssia Katacsio came in just as Rukh sent the message. “Who’s the kit?”

“My niece.”

“Oh, well. She is well-behaved, but shouldn’t she be with her mother?”

“Her mother, my sister is dead.”

“Oh I see. Well–” Suddenly, Major Katacsio put two and two together. “Wait, you mean recently?” Rukh sadly nodded. “St. Aiya’s holy name!”

“Yeah, my sister and I didn’t get along quite well, but we still cared about each other. Now, she’s dead, and I have to take care of my niece. I don’t know how to raise children and I got a bunch of delegates coming here soon.” Groaning and moaning, he rubbed his eyes. “And to top it off, I still haven’t found who this secret admirer of mine is.”

Before Major Ferssia Katacsio could say anything, Rukh continued, “I don’t mind the gifts, but damn it! At least whoever it is could tone it down some. I can hardly move around in here.”

“Oh I see. Well, I just wanted to let you know that I will be attending the conference.”

Rukh arched an eyebrow. “Um…Okay. I thought you would be since it was your idea.”

“Oh…yes…Of course! Silly me! It’s just one of those…um…manic Mondays!”

“Today’s Tuesday.”

“Yes…Um…Well, got to go now, I have to prepare for the meeting.” Rukh was puzzled by the major’s strange and peculiar behavior, but he simply shrugged and went back to work.

“I guess telling him that I’m his secret admirer right now wouldn’t be a good idea. And I probably do need to lay off the gifts for awhile. They’re starting to burn a hole in my pocket.” Major Katacsio went to get ready for the conference. As she walked by the little kit, she glanced and gave the little vixen a look of sympathy and concern before continuing on her way.
