The 2020 Handover Ceremony of Komertsiya Port

(OOC: Joint post between Coliop and Tuva)

It had been 135 years since the original signatories from Salovia and Ayaupia signed the treaty that would form Komertsiya. So much had happened since that treaty; so many wars, so many Chancellors. Even the very colonial power who held the territory would fall into disarray, collapsing into a number of smaller nations. Komertsiya during this whole time had maintained its position in the region as a commercial heavyweight, and the time had come for it to finally be returned. A ceremony was to be held in the city, officially lowering the flag of Tuvaltastan (who assumed administration after the dissolution of Salovia), and raising the Ayaupian flag…

At the Serenity Convention Hall, Komertsiya Port…

‘It’s really something to think about, after all these years…’ Alyona Petrovavich thought to herself as she stood in her spot on the huge stage for the Handover Ceremony. She had been the longest-serving Chancellor of Tuvaltastan, and it was an honor to oversee this historic event. No doubt this would alter the playing field quite a bit after ownership was fully exchanged over.

She looked over to her left to see her Ayaupian counterpart standing in a mirrored position as herself, with the ceremonial flagpole marking the halfway point between them…

Ulyelat Onosnel, one of the three heads of states from the new claiming country, was in the same state of mind. ‘Finally, this is over. Now, we can assure ayaupian integrity’, he thought, after all the issues he encountered with felines rebelling against Tuvaltastan’s rule on the city. Being himself a feline, originating from Nestonia, the constituent country to which the land will return, he had been chosen for the ceremony. Behind him were standing both of his colleagues, as well as the president of Nestonia and the commissioner of Palescia, the province that will occupy the port. One of the most important things was to show the federalism of Ayaupia, a fundamental element of the nation.

The Tuvaltastan Ambassador to Ayaupia stepped over to a microphone situated in front of the flagpole, and his Ayaupian counterpart right next to him. “I would like to thank all of the people who could make it out to this undoubtedly important event. History is being made as we speak; the final colonial remnant of Salovia is being corrected and given back to those it belongs to; the very people who live in and around its land. One hundred and thirty five years… generations ago. Today, those words that were written all those years ago are being adhered to, and the sins of the past are finally corrected. It is the hope of myself and my fellow Tuvalts that this may be a shining beacon in what can be accomplished if we all adhere to the rule of law. I again thank you all for coming to attend this ceremony, and I’d like to turn your attention to my Ayaupian counterpart!”

The man steps away from the microphone and politely gestures towards the Ayaupian ambassador…

“I may thank my Tuvalt counterpart for this beautiful speech, but I may also recognise the immense gratitude of Tuvaltastan for handing this ceremony and finally considering what is the right thing to be done. What I would mostly like to tell to the ayaupian people and the now overseas tuvalts, as every person who had the benevolence to come here, is that this superb territory will be ruled in good hands. We have been challenging our minds with many thoughts about the future of Komertsiya Port, therefore we now are able to set the best governance it needs. Fellow Nestonians will soon obtain the Ayaupian citizenship, and Tuvalts will be allowed to choose to stay or to leave. But, as it has been previously said, it is indeed a milestone for our history - and the coloniser. I hope not any single inhabitant will be disappointed by our choices, as everyone has to live in the conditions they wanted”.

The ambassador steps away while applause rose all over the place. Outside, ayaupians flags are hung over balconies and windows by local felines, while people rallied in the streets to celebrate the event. Behind the scene, some officials are ready to pack up, while suited felines prepare their entry into new administrations.
