NOTE: New Lehi was a nation who was banned from TAR for excessive trolling, however it was later found that the trial was not just. A new trial has allowed him back to the region. When he was banned, he formed a region called United Front who’s sole purpose was to bring down TAR.
First things first, I would like to apologize for the delay in my second public address (to make up for it, Ill make this one a bit more formal); from Sunday evening to late Wednesday night, I had the pleasure of spending all day without any electricity or heat, courtesy of Hurricane Sandy (By the way, Im hoping youve fared well down in D.C., Bacilli and Aractia). Even though power was restored to my house two days ago, there was still no internet, cable, landline phone, or wi-fi access until this morning. Id have popped in for a few minutes with my phone, but dead battery on Saturday + lack of foresight = no charge at all… which didnt exactly make the power outage much more enjoyable for me.
While I am sorely tempted to use this address to prattle on about my Hurricane Sandy story, thats not going to do any good for TAR. Instead, Ill keep on topic by discussing hot-button issues. Last time, everyone was wondering about my cabinet appointments, so my address in The Patriot dealt with that; now, I feel that the Lehi verdict is the most significant story - and thats saying something, considering everything else that has been going on here based on what Ive seen since skimming through what I missed during Sandy.
Back in August, during the treaty negotiations with the United Front, I always maintained a belief that, if readmitted, New Lehi could be a productive, law-abiding, active member of our region. Yet, that meant little; we had all seen his willingness to help improve TAR via peaceful methods in his Free Kopenhagen persona. Rather, the real question was a matter of whether New Lehi would do so. Again, I had a hunch that yes, he would - once Lehi was permitted to reside in his desired home freely, without needing to resort to deception and masks as he had done with Malone City and FK, he would end hostilities.
At the time, that view was considered overly optimistic, even naive, by many others involved in the United Front talks. Nevertheless, that hope continued to flicker in my mind - but then, the treaty was rejected by the Fourth Senate, Lehi and company behaved poorly upon receiving the news, and that small flame was nearly extinguished.
Nearly. I still have high hopes for our returning member, still believe that he is receiving a much-deserved, true second chance to make us forget about the past. However, as always, I acknowledge that this could be difficult; Lehi will need to follow the advice I gave him to avoid returning to his confrontational ways, and likewise the people of TAR will need to follow the advice I gave them to be accepting of our returnee. Reconciliation is a two-way street, so well have to work together towards a more peaceful community.
Welcome back, New Lehi. Dont make us regret this.
