The delegates were late. Victor Borisyovich was getting quite irritated. Throwing darts at the Royal King’s face was getting tiring. Especially since the darts weren’t explosive, computer-guided, or had enough delta-v to hit Atlaerskoiy.

He was the CEO of Kerlington Paper Rockets, one of the many government-funded companies. Little did they know that Kerlington was making real rockets…

He also had quite the powerful position in the government and was obviously taking a hard line against the Atlae Isles. Those bigwigs think they can control all of ex-Atlaesian Empire. That was why he had founded the Dmoretsky Alliance, a group of 4 nations: Kerlington, Charton, Liber Yorvus, Minedestives.

Together, they would topple the Atlaesian throne and annex the country for themselves.

At long last, the delegates started arriving. First from Minedestives, then Charton, then lastly Liber Yorvus. Each country had a grudge against another, but it was nothing compared to the Atlae Isles, their mutual enemy, and the rest of the world.

It was all going accordingly to plan. Kerlington would provide aerial and space weapons, Liber Yorvus the navy, Charton the army, and Minedestives the propaganda (and some of the army, of course). This was all specialized, meaning each would pitch in some of each, but more in one area.

Battle plans began being drawn up, and constitutions and declarations of war began being written.

This would be Atlae’s last stand.

“I don’t like it.”

Matthew Toreney sat at his desk, looking at the briefing file. His face had many worry lines. “I just really don’t like it.”

“What do you not like about it?” Calvin I asked over the secure telephone line.

“One, it looks like it’ll doom the SEPC.”

“The SEPC is pretty much dead anyway. Capuzzi already told me that.” The King expressed in exasperation.

“Two, there seems to be a conflict in the North Dovahofkiinese Sea.”

“Oh, it’s just those four rebellious states.”

“No, your Highness. The military capabilities of these four is rapidly advancing. I think it’s unwise to split up our forces.”

“Call a war meeting. That’s a direct order.”

Toreney sighed. “I will do as you say, sir.”

Ferdinand Adam was the supervisor. Supervisor for a lot of things, mostly the propaganda, recruitment, money gathering, the such of war effort.

It seemed to be working. The paid protestors in Atlae had been doing their job well. He didn’t expect the unpaid protestors, who were actually protesting for isolationism, but that was a happy surprise. Who knew the general public hated wars? Who knew that more people were actually angry about something than wanted pay?

Today, he was looking over Minedestives’ many luscious farms. He was due to see the grain doles and bread baskets which would feed the army. Right now, he was looking at one of the many treasures of Minedestives.

Drugs. Lots of drugs. They were useful, in a lot of ways. Given to soldiers, they could 1) be better at fighting, or 2) have their morale up.

It also had other uses, namely, money. Selling them to countries who “needed” them were a great source of funding, especially since they held a monopoly. And the money goes a long way when it comes to the military…

He smiled and lit up a Minedestivian cigar. He went to his ride to visit the grain farms.

Navy Admiral John Vega was waiting. Waiting for two appointments he set.

Finally, someone knocked.

“Come in!”

The Admirals of the unassigned 7th and 8th Fleet, Bradley Norris and Claudia Jensen respectively, came in, and immediately snapped to attention. “What are our orders?”

Vega said, “You will be deployed up north, do deal with those four rebellious states. We need the Atlae Isles’ full involvement in the war in Aurora, so you have to pacify them.”

Henry Williamson, the Minister of War and Peace (basically controlling the nation’s foreign affairs as well as commanding the military), read a briefing. He looked up from the papers and looked at a camera and microphone, as well as speakers. Nobody was allowed to see the dictator of Toksun Ance, officially known as “The Great One.” So instead, he had to speak directly into the microphone, which existed for that purpose, as well as keeping tabs on everybody.

“So, there is a war up there in the Atlae Isles. Tretrid also seems to be involved.”

The modified voice of the dictator (which was computer-generated, due to the immense paranoia of the dictator) responded through the speakers. “We will have to send funds and arms to those four nations. We need to oppose Tretrid and its allies at all costs.”

“Very well. We will need to conceal the source of the money, so Tretrid and the Atlae Isles will not punish us.”

“You’ll be in charge of that particular operation.”

Williamson sighed. He needed to figure out how to launder money and send it to the four nations in opposition to Tretrid and the Atlae Isles. He also needed to figure out how to smuggle funds across.

General Lambinus looked at the map. The attack on Fort Michaels was imminent. But how to attack, how to attack…

For many years they had been defensive. Liber Yorvus was practically one big castle/military base. But Fort Michaels had only been built to check Liber Yorvus, it seems. After all, Atlae and Liber Yorvus were separated by a mountain range. Trying to assault the other head on would clearly be tactical suicide.

But Liber Yorvus had allies. The plan was that Charton would bring its military to help surround Fort Michaels and Rocheste as Liber Yorvus attacked.

And who knew Atlae had allies? Everyone did. Atlae had the SEPC and good relations with other countries. But that was why the Auroran War was an opportunity.

Whose idea was it to broadcast the Kuthernburg Congressional Hearings live? Even without them explicitly saying they would send support, they could guess there would inevitably be conflict. But no matter. Kuthernburg could only send its navy or an amphibious assault. Liber Yorvus’s navy could deal with them.

Then there was that network of spies and double agents. Both sides used them, they knew.

He mused at how far this “small” conflict in Aurora had gone. But had it started in Concord? Perhaps. Atlantia was now clearly just another theater.

Just yesterday they had received money from Toksun Ance! For some, it was surprising. But clearly, they had allies.

He rolled up the map. It was decided. They would attack on the Summer Festival.

Two recon squadrons and one fighter squadron landed in Fort Andrews, refueled, and took off for Kerlington.

The 7th and 8th Fleet moved into port. Navy Admiral Vega coordinated the movements of the individual fleets, but the placement of the ships was up to the commanding officer.

Admiral Jensen looked from the bridge of the SRAC Stoic. She was not particularly impressed in the high-rise, though some of her concentration was on getting the entire 8th fleet was docked. It was taking a while, it was tedious, there was a lot of logistics and signaling, and it was quite obvious that Jensen was getting bored.

Finally, all ships were docked, and the 7th fleet was already in the port. Now they had to resupply, and then go to those rebellious nations, where the aircraft carrier would be far more important. Sure, the Air Service had sent their own recon squadrons, but the bulk of the aircraft currently involved in the Tretridian war effort was inside of the very ship she commanded.

“Get a move on!”
The hairy laborers toiled into the day preparing the fleet for departure, antagonized by the comments of their superiors. Only hours ago had the nation been given the news that they were to be headed toward the northern outskirts of Atlantia. To defend the allies, the news reporters had said, Mexregiona would have to assault the other states that surrounded Atlae. Not many agreed with this, as they were a huge distance away from the war-zone (much like Aurora), but few had the fight in them to challenge the lawmakers of the country, not to mention the head of state himself. They would fight to combine the Northern Atlae Archipelago into one, so one day the strength of the Isles could grow to the powerhouse it should be. Rumor had it that the Isles were limited by the warring states that leeched from it, and Mister Leader had to make sure the people there were ready for wars that weren’t domestic: he knew that having distrust and loathing between neighboring countries was terrible for both image and the general manner in which internal happenings ran. Most people would say this is rather a non-patriotic way of thinking, but the legislature wasn’t most people.
So the nation would send a fleet and take 'em down once and for all.

The ships had finally gotten over to Atlae Isles City. They had had to traverse all the way around the southern end of the Island of Louisianaia to make it here, but it had been done. The ships were ready to rock and roll.

Beartrot stepped down onto the dock, smelling the chilly morning sea salt.
“You a foreigner?”
Beartrot turned around, annoyed. He didn’t take kindly to foreigners calling him foreign. Standing there was an Altaesian man in his forties, dressed in some overalls and a dirty undershirt, complete with muddy hiking boots and a worn sailor cap.
“Yes, indeed, I am,” Beartrot replied in Codexian, rather than Mexregionan Latin. “And I’m assuming you aren’t?”
“Uh, yeah,” the man said. “I just wanted to know what you nasty foreigners were doing in our great country.”
Rather rude for an Altaesian. “I wouldn’t call us nasty if I were you. We’re the ones with a Hegemon-class aircraft carrier and an air fleet capable of blowing up this city.”
“Oh, sorry, er, general, guy. That’s all I needed to know, sir. Sorry to bother you; I’ll be off.” He stumbled away.
“That was strange,” Beartrot said aloud, rather stupidly, he thought. He began to carry on with his business.
Then he paused. That wasn’t a welcoming gesture in this country, or any country for that matter. If anything, Altaesians should treat Mexregionans like brothers. The Serviceman flipped around and looked straight at the stiff back of the man.
Beartrot ran down the pier, tackling him. Boards creaked as the two twisted around, fighting for control. The captured didn’t make a sound. Beartrot was right.
“Oi! Send someone down here to lock this guy up!”
The man eventually stopped squirming under Beartrot and turned upward towards the sky. A small crowd of military personnel were gathering to aid the Serviceman. He had second highest orders here, right after Mister Leader II himself. It would be a good month in prison to disobey his orders.
The stranger was stood up and searched up and down. In his left pocket a deckhand found a wallet. Opening it, he saw a fake passport from Dovahofkiin with a face that only barely resembled the man.
“You would think Atlae would be more on-alert about this kind of stuff,” someone said absently.
The deckhand proceeded to pull out a miniature flag of Kerlington and a large cyanide capsule. Apparently the man was too wimpy to kill himself.
((OOC: The ability to kill oneself does not constitute one’s wimpiness.))
“Bull’s eye. We’ll turn this guy into Altaesian authorities and see what they can do with him. Maybe they can torture some answers out of him. Make sure he doesn’t take his capsule toys into prison; I’m sure he has something of use.”
