Historical Summary:

Ymirland was originally settled by Kemonomimi explorers from the Infinite Loop in the early neolithic period. Serving as an important stop for future expeditions before leaving Novaris proper. The development of Iron and later development of prehistory technologies led to a small growth of cities on the interior of the peninsula. Due to the poor soil quality and swamps, the farming of these lands wasn’t ever truly possible. Resulting the Ymirs have the primary focus of fishing and trading as a food source for the inhabited region. The discovery of copper deposits led to a growth of trade in the city states and led to the formation of a confederation of Ny‘Andrestopp.

900 Defense against viking warhost
The 900s brought a massive fleet of viking longships seeking to invade the Confederation and curve a kingdom from its remnants. The Viking warhost was led by Børre Fuglestad, the third eldest son of Anton Fuglestad of Hirdvik.

The viking fleet swept across the sea channels, pushing deeply into the capital of the Confederation. As a result, a prompt militia was formed to fight against the warhost as well as a clan of Ny’Sænuri. While the militia efforts were notable, however fighting was mostly taking place between the Ny’Sænuri and the Vikings.

The clan dragged the vikings further inland away from their ship, while the militia burned the longships. The Ny’Sænuri and the vikings fought for several months in the wilderness, the clan of Ny’Sænuri slowly picking numbers off from the viking. While the clan had bigger numbers than the viking warhost, the clan kept with its safe tactics to minimize deaths and to make an example of the vikings. Wanting to only leave a handful of survivors to send the message back to the other vikings who might come.

Vikings finally gave in after the 8th month being trapped in the wilderness. Cold, starving, Børre opened negotiations with the clan. The Clan, of course, removed his Børre head which is currently resting in the Ymir’s People History Museum on the current day. The Ny’Sænuri gave the leftover vikings a ship and told them to spread the story of what happened. Giving them the headless body of Børre by tying it to the mast of the ship.

For the people of Ny‘Andrestopp was actions the Ny’Sænuri taken was considered to be extreme in nature. Wanting them only to fight them and not brutalize the vikings invaders. As a result, they requested the Ny’Sænuri clan to disband. To which the Ny’Sænuri clan refused to do so. Creating awkward state of affairs between the confederation and the native

1500s Early Norgsveldian influence
By the mid 1500s Norgsveltian merchants and tradesmen from the Kingdom of Novreheim set several trading ports in Northern parts of Ymirland. Attempts to convert the natives to Asatru was done, but other than influencing culture in lingual practices, it had little success converting them. A cultural merger of Akuanism and Norgsveltian Asatru happened in the largest town of modern day Kyinster.

Norgsveltian trading ports became a source of large financial growth, and trade for not just Norgsveltians but also other traders in the region. Acting as a resupply point for many traders heading to western Novaris and back. As such a small Norgsveltian fleet was established on the port to fight against pirates in the region that’s affecting trade in the region.

1781 Norgsveldian colonization, renaming of the peninsula to Ymirland

During Wars of Asatru religion the Norgsveltian king Gustaf II sent its military to secure the trading ports in Ymirland, and created the Crown Colony of Ymirland, under the colonial governance of Ivar Tolvstat, a elven Norgsveltian noble which had connectections with native elite and Norgsveltian merchants. By 1790 Norgsveldet had taken over all of modern Ymirland, and became crucial to competing with Morstaybishlia for influence in the region.

The colonization efforts were fought back by protests and by Ny’Sænuri by more violent measures when forced religious policies started to be implemented. Which was met with overwhelming violence from both sides.

1792 Religious policies and development in Ymirland

Under Ivar Tolvstat far further attempts in converting the natives into Asatru, by far more forceful means than before. Being held at gunpoint (metaphorically but also literally at times) many Akuanists did officially convert but most practiced Akuanism in private. The Norgsveltian Crown built large infrastructure projects in the country with many Norgsveltian settlers moving into the land, many being elven nobles. By the 1850s Ivar Tolvstat ended the religious policy of Ymirland at the request of King Varg III. Allowing Akuanist religion to flourish to the fullest with even some Norgsveltian settler communities on Ymirland converting to Akuanism.

When the forced religious policies ended, so did the violence from the Ny’Sænuri clans. Who withdrew back into their wilderness fortresses. The blend of the two religions was quite common even in other colonies. Meaning Ymirland was not the outliner when it came to the Akuanism-Asatru relations, in most cases the religions often cohabited the same spaces.

1914 Protests against the Great War
Norgsveldet entry into the great war brought troubles to Ymirland. Waves of anti-war protests took hold of the country, waving banners to leave the war that they believed Norgsvaldet had no reason to be a part of. Brewmasters leading the way for the protesters to march against the military present on the island and for indepence of Ymirland.

It was joined by Norgsveltian settlers and the native Akuanists in marchs for autonomy with a handful of members outright pushing for independence. The response from the military was harsh, with military action against the protesters and enforcing martial law. Arresting several brewmasters and activists charging them with treason.

The military courts in all cases found them guilty and hanged them. Resulting in further protesting against the military present on the island. The military enforced martial law in Ymirland declaring the country in a state of distress. Cracking down on freedom of speech and movement within the country. The population was beaten into submission, until after Norgsveldet left the Great War where martial law.

1920 Crown State status
Political pressure from Ymirland and from internal Norgsveldet forced them to begin the process of independence for Ymirland.

Several months of negotiations took place between the colonial office, the Norgsveltian crown and the collection Brewmasters and native independent activists.
While full independence wouldn’t be given right away, an informal agreement leading to independence would be given within twenty to fifty years after Crown State status.

With a firm deadline in place for independence and moving its position from colony to Crown State. Giving Ymirland more autonomy within its own affairs. Relieving much of the protesting and marches for independence that was happening throughout the country.

1950 Independence officially declared
The Crown State realm status came to a sudden and dramatic end when Norgsveldet decided to grant independence within a week. Causing political turmoil through the country.

The Labor party in Norgsveldet pressured the government to grant immediate independence to all Crown States. While the Ymirland government agreed to the independence, the deadline for independence was completely unreasonable and efforts to extend the deadline were made but fell on deaf ears of the Labor Party. An action leading to a poorly written constitution, a unstaff cabinet for the PM and suffering from a budget crisis due to mismanagement.

The resulting constitution was filled with contradictions, misspellings, mistranslations and was nearly impossible to change or amend the paper. The Constitution only allowed changes to be made every seven years and only allowed four changes to it. Additionally the constitution had a hard-coded tax rate by accident due to a misunderstanding about how the tax system would work in the framework. Resulting in the country having issues with raising funds to manage itself.

2016 Succession Crisis
After the death of Otto Tolvstat, the monarch of Ymirland led to a series of crises of succession. As previously, Norgsveldet would select the monarch, usually the eldest son of the house of House Tolvstat that settled the island for the Norgsveldet crown. After the independence was declared back in 1950, the succession clause where Norgsveldet selects the next monarch was removed however due to the desire of Norgsveldet wanting to leave the country as quickly as possible. Forced the country to finish the constitution as quickly as possible, without making a proper succession clause for the monarchy.
The succession clause that came out of the first constitution was a self-contradictory mess that had three different methods of succession all of which contradicted the other and had no sense of order or which succession method was to be used or in what case the succession would be used in. Due to how much of a mess the rest of the constitution was, the succession clause was ignored in favor of more pressing issues in the constitution.

Otto Tolvstat was an only child, so when the crown was passed to him, there weren’t any issues. However when he died from cancer, he had a pair of twins as his children. As a result there couldn’t be any real argument about who should succeed him and both of his children claimed that Otto told them privately that they were supposed to hold the throne. The lack of clear line of succession led to the twins trying to form political alliances to secure the throne.

PR campaigns played a heavy role, with the twins desperately trying to gain popular public support. Elin Tolvstat, focused on capitalizing the recent popular film “The Red Prince.” Providing a picture that shows her similar to the Red Prince in her struggle to take the throne of Ymirland away from her “capitalist” brother.
Sindre Tolvstat, took the messaging from her sister’s warning about his capitalist and turned them against her. Making a public showing of him meeting with business leaders and Norgsvaldian companies, stating he can provide the country with more jobs and wealth than her “anti-business, anti-economy and anti-reason” sister. Sindre showed himself to be more conservative and traditional than her sister.
Both twins made showings while visiting the species and religious minorities. Trying to get them on their side, stating they are both on the side of minorities.
In reality, Elin and her brother Sindre cared very little about the economy or the political side of the country. Only really wanting to secure the throne through the means of popular support.

As a result of the PR campaigns, the meetings and the rallies. The country was split into separate entities, both claiming to be the real Ymirland. For the most part, the split was peaceful, with only minor fighting from bands of citizens clashing against each other. Both of the Twins denounced violence stating a peaceful solution can still be found. The governments of North and South Ymirland on the other hand, disagreed with their given monarchs instead promoting the fighting on the border. Stating each other was in a state of rebellion but not taking military action against each other just yet.

The military of Ymirland was divided, with many of the officer core going towards the South Ymirland, the liberal-conserivate and the soldiers going to the North Ymirland to side with the socialist-monachy. Both of the monarchies denounced the splitting of the military, stating it can still be solved with peaceful means. The governments of North and South on the other hand supported the dissolution of the military. Stating the former government of Ymirland was no more, to the great stress of the twins.

Both sides started arming up, taking control of armories in their side of the country. Buying weapons from overseas and began military patrols of the border. The border quickly became more militarized, a barbed wire fence cut between cities between the North and South. Much to the disagreement of the Twins who tried and failed to demilitarize the border. The Prime Minister of the South and the Prime Minister of the North began to limit public access, information and press to their respective monarchs. Believing after the war their monarch would understand and thank them for their actions.

King Olav I of Norgsveldet held a meeting between him and the twins trying to get the two to calm the massive tensions that were building between their two nations. Only to unfortunately hear the news that the two have been trying for months to stop the division to no avail. Reportedly when the two told him about the situsation only thing he said was “fuck”.

2018 War of unification of the North and South
It was unclear who first started the war, with both sides blaming each other. In the beginning the war was limited, with only the native Ymir fighting in it; however shortly the North Ymirland applied for military assistance from the Federation of the Southern Coast. To which the South applied for military assistance from South Hills.

Both the North and the South first believed assistance would have only come in military equipment and training. Instead of the Federation sending a battle group and 50,000 soldiers to the North. The South Hills replied with similar numbers to match the Federation’s military forces.

The fighting became less between the two Ymirland militaries and more between the Federation and the South Hills. With nearly every battle after the arrival of the foreign militaries fighting only each other exclusively, with only small numbers of Ymirland forces taking part.

For the most part of the war, Ymir militaries were mostly on defensive and garrison duty. With the foreign militaries taking the role in offensives. The fighting was brutal with the battle lines shifting daily as the two powers fought.

“Operation Womanizer” was a Federation offensive plan to force the South Hills. The operation combined special forces sabotaging air bases, a joint armored and air offensive across all fronts at the same time. The goal was less about taking land and more about causing damage to South Hills military infrastructure. Establishing small pockets of anti-air missile sites into enemy territory.

South Hills naval strike group was sent to intercept Federation’s military transports in the North Concordian Ocean only for said naval strike group to be intercepted by the North Concordian fleet of Norgsveldet, placing large naval standoff between the two Concordian powers, as Norgsveltian navy placed itself in between the two. After 11 hours facing each other, and with Johanna threatening to intervene in the Civil War, South Hills finally backed down allowing Federation transports to go on unabated.

September-2019 SH pulls out of the South Ymirland
Due to the costly nature of the conflict in material, manpower and political pressure from internal South Hills politics, the government decided to have a back room deal with the Federation, to pull out of South Ymirland in exchange for allowing the 99-year lease to have a naval base after the war. The Federation agreed to it, without informing the North Ymirland government about the agreement.

The withdrawal of South Hill happened over the course of six months, during which the Federation refused to commit to any offensives first waiting for South Hills to pull out before launching it’s second major offensive “Operation Bad News” in which it launched a full invasion, with minor assistance from the North Ymirland military. The Federation took the lead role in the attack.

The South Ymirland government and military, without support from South Hills, completely collapsed within a week. The flag of the newly united Ymirland waved over the now defunct Legislature of South Ymirland.

2020 Reform of Ymirland
The unification of the country and the new socialist constitution being imposed took place rapidly in 2020. With a mass pardoning of both sides politicians, soldiers and high ranking officials, by order of the Jarlya of the country.

As part of the agreement between Ymirland and the Federation for taking part in the civil war. Ymirland joined the Red Crown Economic Union as well as established its headquarters for its Novaris fleet in Ymirland.

Norgsveldet and South Hills, as part of an agreement to the Federation about Ymirland allowed a 100 year lease for a naval base in Ymirland. Much to the grumbling of the political parties of Ymirland.

Jarlya Elin alongside her twin brother, held a press conference stating the war was completely unjustified and a national tragedy. Further developing into their attempts to stop the war together against the wave of ‘petty-nationalism’ and political disunity within the country. Going on to express their displeasure with their own Prime Ministers fanning the flames of the disunity to push for their own agenda.

The resulting storm coming out of the press conference resulted in the Ymirland minister stepping down within a few days after. While no formal calls for a change in the new constitution, minor protests broke out into the streets requesting changes in government to include non-socialist monarchists. However the flames died out over the course of the years.

King Olav I of Norgsveldet visited Ymirland after the Civil War ended. Paying his respect to the dead, and held a speech about how he supports the Royal twins efforts in unifying the country after the civil war. Olav stated he will actively work with the Norgsveltian government to establish a NCEF reconstruction program into Ymirland.
