The Wise Flower, Coronation of an Empress

The Imperial Kandorese Broadcasting Station’s logo shows with a typical news chime. A man in rather formal clothing and glasses appears, holding a microphone and a smile on his face. Behind him a huge colourful crowd on a huge square, with even more colours.

“Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen I am Lisho Yaru, reporting live from the Square of Heavens in front of the imperial palace. as you can see behind me, the cars of the members of parliament are arriving and Prime Minister Jantei Saiteohago will open today’s ceremony.”

The reporter stands aside, to show the full view of a long row of black, luxury cars arriving on the square, surrounded by police and military vehicles.

The voice of the reporter can be heard again as the members of the Kandorese parliament are escorted towards a large flag and banner decorated stage in front of the imperial palace.

“Prime Minister Jantei Saiteohago is already our longest reigning Prime Minister in our history, serving almost a complete two terms now and planning on a third, he said earlier this week. He will lead the ceremony today as we will witness the coronation of the second Empress in Kandorese history. He will also offer her the Imperial sword, to give her leadership over the Kandorese Armed Forces, which will be the first time in history an imperial monarch has the leadership over the entire army. We will now go live to the speech of our Prime Minister.”

Jantei Saiteohago slowly approached the microphone in front of the flag waving and clothed in ceremonial colours, ranging from red and white to purple and yellow. The prime minister motioned for silence and slowly the crowd calmed down, waiting in anticipation of his words.

The Prime Minister adjusted hist tie slightly and re organized the papers he was holding on his speaker’s stand. “Today marks an important day in our history and in our cultural heritage. Our glorious empire will have an Empress for it’s second time, but also it has been for the first time a monarch ascends the throne without the death of the previous Emperor. We as government came to this decision in agreement with Emperor Aisho, as he sees himself unable to fulfil his duties any further.” The minister paused for a minute, glancing over the crowd.

“For us as government, especially parliament the decision has been quite heavy. It is not easy to make such a decision without a legal heir. That is why our choice was the woman who stood next to the father of our modern nation, the mother of our nation and the main supporter of Emperor Uchi, Regent Empress Daturei. We as government are sure she will lead our nation into even larger prosperity, political and diplomatic advances for the entire nation and will also be the main figurehead of the Kandorese political system. Having said this, we will begin the ceremony.”

Jantei Saiteohago stepped back from the microphone as the members of parliament sitting behind him rose from their chair. They looked skywards with their hands on the place of their hearts as the Kandorese national anthem chimed trough the speakers on the square.

The anthem ended and the ministers lined up next to the palace stairs, from which the Imperial Guard descended the stairs. Eventually a young looking woman dressed in a ceremonial garb and a headdress adorned with gems and feathers followed the Imperial Guard. The ministers bowed deeply as a sign of respect as she passed them, towards the stand. The woman made a small bow towards the crowd which afterwards erupted in cheers and shouts, but stopped quickly again as the woman motioned for silence. Prime Minister Jantei Saiteohago approached her with a small red pillow, with a purple lotus flower made out of previous metals and stones. He bowed and offered her the flower, which she picked up and held as she walked towards the microphone. The woman removed some hair from in front of her face and with a smile addressed the people on the square.

“Thank you Prime Minister, people of Kandorith it is an honour to lead this nation into greatness and prosperity. I will restore this nation’s glory as my husband wanted it and my son tried to pursue. I will make sure our enemies will be vanquished and our allies will be closer than ever. Our military force will be the envy of the world. We shall show the world exactly why we are an empire, how we became an empire and why the empire has lasted for thousands of years already. Our culture will be the foundation on which we built, or willpower and discipline will be our weapon and our determination will be our rule.”

She paused to receive a blue sword from Defence Minister Hue-ge Tasho, with a bow he offered it to her and stepped back again. The woman took the sword from it’s sheath and thrust it out in front of her.

“With this flower in my hand I accept the rule of heavens and lead the empire for the good of it’s people. I take on the role as Empress with the name of Cixi and will see all the people of the empire as my very own children. By holding this sword I accept the supreme command over Kandorith’s Armed Forces and swear to the gods and heavens I will use them solely to protect our own people from harm. I pledge to the gods that I shall carry out their divine will and their wishes unto this empire. Jāng shí wēixiǎn, xiān shí dìyuó! *”

Empress Cixi slowly slid the sword back into it’s sheathe and attached it to her ceremonial garb. She bowed deeply and added the purple lotus to the adorned headdress. A huge celebration started amongst the public on the square, as the Empress greeted every minister one by one.

“This was Lisho Yaru, live from the Square of Heavens during the coronation of Empress Cixi, we wish her to lead this nation for 8,000 years and her beauty to be everlasting. This was IKNBC News have a wonderful day…” the broadcasting centre’s logo appeared on the screen and the ending chime of the news could be heard as the channel returned to it’s normal broadcasting schedule.

The Empress and ministers were escorted to the palace halls by the Imperial Guard, where the press was already waiting for their arrival. As the Empress took her seat in a huge gold, silk and precious stone decorated throne the first member of the press was allowed forwards.

“Your majesty, what will be your priorities on governmental expenditures once the new fiscal year starts?”

The Empress smiled. “Obviously we need more expenses in our defence budget, but also welfare, healthcare and culture. Not only for now but also in the near future these will be the most important points.
And speaking of government another priority will be the merging of all smaller ministries into one. There are too many ministries within the current system of our politics, slowing everything down. I and the Prime Minister have already agreed on this motion and will put it to practice as soon as possible.”

The reporter nodded, writing it all down quickly before he was motioned to let the next reporter ask questions.

“Your Imperial Majesty, do you tend to leave the current police system this way or will you abolish certain laws and/or capital punishments?”

The Empress almost seemed to roll her eyes when she heard the question and answered with a sigh. “No, so far no laws will be abolished and especially not capital punishment. There will be a change in the system however, I will now be fully in charge of the police forces as well… so I might have you executed for this ridiculous question.”

The reporter trembled on his feet as the Empress started to laugh. “I’m joking, now please remove yourself from my halls.” She motioned for the Imperial Guard to take him away, still chuckling.

The Empress turned her head towards the Prime Minister and said something in a low voice. "Can you take over, I am already getting a headache from this ridiculous questions. Jantei Saiteohago nodded.

“Unfortunately the Empress has more important duties to tend to right now, that is why I will lead the rest of the press conference.” He then nodded towards the Imperial Guard, who proceeded to escort the Empress as the conference continued.

I can’t believe people ask such questions I need a drink… went trough her head as she almost marched down the palace hall towards the living halls of the palace.

“Thank you guards, you are relieved from your special duties for the night. You are to proceed with normal duties.” The guards saluted her and nodded before marching off. Empress Cixi threw off her ceremonial garb, almost in an annoyed way. Although she took great care in removing the headdress. The new Empress sat down in her chair with a sigh and turned on the TV before opening a bottle of wine.

Yes like the Vulshain thread, this is a way to contact Kandorith and it’s new monarch, or even address press conference questions to Jantei Saiteohago.

A reporter from Vulshain asked Jantei Saiteohago, “Sir, what is the new Empress’ opinion on the Confederacy of Vulshain, and will she seek to improve relations between Kandorith and Vulshain? Also, what other nations will Her Imperial Highness seek to strengthen relations with?”

Jantei Saiteohago nodded while scratching his chin.
“The Empress herself always spoke quite highly of Vulshain as does out current parliament, mostly because of their previous diplomatic involvements with the Empire. I am sure the Empress has strong intentions of keeping a healthy relationship between the two nations.”

The prime minister paused for a moment to think about the second question and took a small sip of the glass of water on his speaker’s booth.
“Currently the nation of Dorlania is within our sights to strengthen ties with, it is a nation which could offer us a solid alliance and hopeful also establish a stronger diplomatic position.”

“-What is your government’s general opinion on the People’s Republic of Lazlowia and the Democratic Republic of Algaisia?”

A elf reporter from Legokiller asked Jantei Saiteohago." So whats the Empress’ opinion on our new President Twilight Sparkle, The awesome Islands of Legokiller, and the Pony race?"

Prime Minister Jantei Saiteohago whispered something to the palace guard next to him, who marched off as the minister turned his attention towards the reporters again.

“I can ensure you that the parliament is in favour of keeping stable and improved relations with both of your nations, even though Lazlowia seems to have a rather socialistic view. We see no problem ahead in diplomatic contact. I have asked the guards to see if the Empress finished with her duties so she can answer your questions herself, as I am not allowed to completely speak for her. I do not know Her Imperial Majesty’s opinion on either Legokiller or the new…”

The guard returned and gave Jantei Saiteohago a sealed letter as he spoke to him. Saiteohago nodded and motioned the Guard away. “The Empress does not see any difficulties having contact with Legokiller… but she finds the idea of the pony race rather silly… but of course we haven’t had any contact with the people of Legokiller nor Lazlowia for that fact yet. Which will also become a policy on the new political agenda, to reach out more towards other nations and opening the borders bit by bit.”

As Saiteohago finished his last sentence the Empress walked in again, clothed in still a traditional dress yet without all the decorative gems feathers and other over the top ceremonial decorations. She nodded at the prime minister and nodded at the reporters. "I will join Prime Minister Saiteohago again to answer your questions, to give the full answers on what both governmental institutes think. Even though Saiteohago is quite up to date with the designed agenda.

The Vulshainian reporter asked, “What is your views on racism, especially those practiced by human supremacy groups who feel that humans should either enslave or wipe out all non-humans? Also, what is your opinion on Vekaiyu and Vulshain as well as your opinion on non-human races like vulpines and lobos?”

A reporter walked up “What is the current opinion of Dorlania in the governmemt?”

The prime minister wanted to speak, but the empress motioned him to stay quiet and very confident in appearance, she spoke .

“I myself have been reading up somewhat on the lands of Dorlania and it is one of the nations I am quite positive towards. And I am sure that diplomatic contact with this nation will be flawless. Though I still know too few to confirm that as of now, the parliament will do further research for such things.”

The Empress wiped some hair out of her face and pondered what to say for a slight moment, before continuing

“As my views on racism, racism is a crime within the Empire of Kandorith. Racial and hate crimes are punished with very severe jail sentences. Vekaiyu I sadly know few about, but would love to know more about. As for Vulshain, I have seen and heard about the diplomatic involvement during the Jurei aggression. Sadly the diplomatic involvement still couldn’t stop the events during this war but it was an extraordinary effort and quite daring, for that we highly respect the nation and it’s leaders. Also towards non-human races I myself am quite neutral, although I find some silly… I will respect them and tolerate them as much as I can. I also know, the people of Kandorith will do the same.”

“What is the general opinion of the pact betweeen both nations?”

Yet another reporter walked up. A Werewolf reporter.
“What would be the current opinion of the Werewolf Consortium in your nation?”

The Vulshainian reporter jotted down some notes and then asked, “So, what are your plans on restoring order and peace now that the Jurei conflict has quieted down some? Also, do you have any plans to establish trade agreements with Vulshain and other nations? Also, what are your plans on improving the Kandorese military? Do you plan on training more troops or do you plan on advancing the military’s technology and equipment?”

“A pact between the two nations still needs to be considered, the negative and positive effects outlined and of course to see if it would indeed benefit both nations. This is of course one of the jobs of minister Hue-ge Tasho and I am confident he will succeed in getting results soon.”

The empress her smile faded away for a brief second, pondering what to say. Quickly enough her smile returned and she answered the other questions of reporters again. “As we have had no contact with the Werewolf… Consortium yet we will not and can not judge. Like other nations this is something we will find out on the long road of more international involvement and less locking ourselves behind our walls. I think that sitting in this grand hall all together says a lot too, so many differences combined next to another. I think if we put effort and the effort is mutual we can achieve the greatest things. This is not just for the Werewolf Consortium, but all nations we will ever contact along the long road of rebuilding our nation towards it’s former glory.”

She quickly turned towards one of her guards, sounding quite aggressive, with lots of hand motions and nodding her head in the process of telling him something in Kandorese. The guard saluted and marched off, towards the doorway and left the room.

The empress gazed towards the reporters again, answering their questions again with vivid and exaggerated hand movements, as if trying to make the public imagine something.
“Well most of our military plans are of course classified. But the things I can tell you is, more of the government budget will be assigned towards strengthening our Armed Forces. Not only increasing manpower and equipment, we will modernize it, improve the training methods and make sure the entire army can keep both us and befriended nations safe. And yes, we will try to walk the path of peace. The Jurei conflict has shown us that a war can inflict a massive punch onto a nation, especially it’s people. It is with all effort our new government will always try to avoid conflict, if possible.”

“And are you worried about the possiblity of human supremist groups popping up in your nation, and trying to direct your people down a path of racism and hatred against those who are not human? And if they do pop up, what do you plan to do to stop them from corrupting your people?”

“We do not have to worry about such things, the Kandorese population has a history and culture of respect. The only time we have had extremist and racist groups was during the Ardon oppression and occupation, times which are behind us. We value all life and respect all life, if mutual respect is returned.”

“Thank you. Now, what do you plan on doing differently than what your father did in terms of running Kandorith?”

The ministers start talking to each other quietly, but were motioned to silence by the Empress again.

“Well one thing I will do different than my father, would be ruling the country.”

The empress chuckles slightly before speaking again.

“My son and husband ruled the country before me. But that is a mistake I can imagine because normally coronation of an imperial monarch happens trough traditional transition of power. My son has been a great leader but lacked the passion of running the country like my late husband did, sadly this passion was the end of him. As I watched my son get more ill and unable to rule the country, I decided to call for a government reform, if he would agree. I will run the country like my husband wanted to see Kandorith, proud, righteous and preserving it’s culture. I will rebuild the things that have been destroyed by the Ardon occupation, rebuild the docks from which our ancestors set out into the world to bring prosperity. I will make sure Kandorith will enter it’s third golden age. A diplomatic power, which respects all life and will protect life where necessary. It was already a huge step to invite a communistic delegate for diplomatic talks earlier in the week, but it is time we put our imperialistic grudges aside and replace it with understanding and respect towards other forms of governments and believes. That is what I plan on doing differently. Yet the first and most important factor of the first term of this new government will be the restoration of so many destroyed cultural heritage sites. And of course working towards a larger diplomatic, economic and international community.”

“-I reference to an earlier answer, what is the reason, that your government considers the communist nature of the Lazlowian government as a negative thing?”

“I am sorry if I have given that impression, we do not view your particular government as a threat or a bad thing; communism and socialism has not been kind to our people in general. I would like to tell the entire history of it, but we’d be here for days perhaps.” A faint smile decorates the Empress’ face, as she takes a small moment to think.

“Though I will tell you a part of it. About a hundred years ago a treaty went wrong during the Xian administration, the last emperor of Kandorith; the old empire that is. His parliament betrayed him and the Ardon administration invaded our nation. Emperor Xian fought till he was slain on the battlefield and Kandorith surrendered. For over ninety years the Kandorese people have been oppressed, slaughtered and mistreated by the communistic Ardon regime, until the start of the civil war ten years ago. Because of this we highly distrust, perhaps slightly hate communism, but not the people. We hate the governmental system of communism, but not communist nations. As long as respect is maintained, by both parties of course we do not see a communistic nation as a threat, but will still distrust it. I hope that answers your question.”

The Empress made a slight bow gesture, as if apologizing.

“Mind if you explain why you do think the Pony Race is silly in your eyes.” The reporter chuckled a bit. “Since I probably sure that you think their silly after President Twilight Sparkle Presidential Inaugurations, the new flag, and New national anthem.”

“Now besides that, whats your opinion on King Samuil Rainard of Vulshain and his actions as king?”
