Under new management

9:32 PM 2019, Fargo, Wolfen Senate Building

Coming to New Years most politicians in the Wolfen republic aren’t exactly celebrating the arrival of a New Years, many of the Rufuinan-Staynish population are in uproar against the government for appointing Ronaldo Patrico as foreign secretary, Ronaldo being well known for his sympathies to left wing idealists around the world and the Wolfen Republic.
The Chancellor and President both in the senate building office are in blind panic, both had hoped they’d be able to put down the various protests around the country with the help of the police and some of the army, however both now sided with the army.

“What are we going to do?! They’ll be coming to the senate building! Richard I-I have children!” Chancellor Theodora pleaded with President Richard Dorfmann, but he too was fairly useless in this situation as he was also panicking.

“Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!” He angrily demanded from Theodora, his anger an obvious result of his fear that the people will want his head on a stick to be paraded around, the Rufuinans had had enough after over a hundred years of attempting to eliminate Rufuinan nationalism and history in hopes of creating an idealistic republic based on tolerance and absolute democracy.
This was not meant to be however, in their attempts to quell nationalism they brought attention of international communist elements whom saw the Wolfen republic as a prime target for revolution, while unorganised the communist elements couldn’t be denied that they were there.

9:40 PM 2019, Fargo military base Charlie

After having defied the direct orders from both the president and the chancellor the military was declared a rogue element, of course the man whom defied this order was none other than famed war hero, field Marshall Mark Hanlon, if the army didn’t want to be eliminated by either internal or foreign elements, they’d need to move quickly in order to secure power, but the men needed to know what was actually going on.
Mark Hanlon stood inside a building looking out the window looking at the men gathering into formation, a soldier entered the room where the field Marshall stood waiting, “Sir the men are just about ready, we await you sir.”

Hanlon sighed, he simply proceeded out of the building and onto a small podium in front of his awaiting men, near them were also several film crews to document what was been happening, let on by Hanlon himself, he cleared his throat slightly and then announced to his men.
“Attention all troops! The President and his puppet Chancellor have both ordered us the military to disperse the protesters and bring ‘order’ to the city’s, the Wolfen thinks we’re weak, that we’ll roll over and do as they say and forget our roots as Rufuinans, that’s -NOT- going to happen.
Men of Rufuina! In the line of once great nations! Have been swept aside AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN! The Wolfens say Rufuina must be finished! That Rufuina must remain dead! Well I say so long as we live, Rufuina will never do so! Lift up your voices men! In the heart of Rufuina! Let them be heard to be spread around the world! A message! RUFUINA LIVES! AND MARCHES ON!!!”

The men Hanlon spoke to let out a cheer of support for their leader Hanlon, most of the military being made up of Rufuinans whom refused to give up their roots despite the government being insistently trying to clear them away, thus their support for Hanlon and his views on the Wolfen republic was well founded.
Hanlon raised his hands in the air and smirked to his troops as they let out their cheers for him and Rufuina, the troops even began singing ‘When Rufus comes marching home’ in unison together, a classic Rufuinan war song sung in their war of independence and civil war.

“When Rufus comes marching home again Hurrah! Hurrah! We’ll give the Wolfen’s fleet a treat Hurrah! Hurrah! Oh the war will be won and ready now! To greet the loyal wholesome crowds! And we’ll all feel safe when Rufus comes marching home!”

And thus with that the men and women of the Wolfen military began getting ready to move out and march on the Fargo senate building, not as Wolfens but as proud and honest Rufuinans, with Hanlon leading the march personally in one of the military trucks acquired from the base.

10:09 PM 2019, Fargo, Wolfen Senate Building

“Richard please!” Theodora pleaded with Richard “I don’t want my children to be raised without a mother! We can escape this! W-we can go to South Peragen!” She said on the brink of tears as Richard looked out the window, his angered look now lead to a defeated look on his face and with a sigh as well.
“It’s too late Dora… I’m so sorry…” He said as he knew what was going to happen, outside he could see trucks pulling up outside the senate building with troops marching toward them, Theodora rushed over to the window and gasped in shock, looking like she was about to crack.

As they were marching the protesters and rioters didn’t dare stand in their way, some even let out cheers of support for them, and in front of said march was Hanlon himself adorned in his classic uniform and universally recognised sunglasses.
As Hanlon came into view for Richard his anger returned with a vengeance. “Hanlon! That damn-! NAGH!” He couldn’t control himself, the returning war hero was someone Richard thought he could put under heel during his administration, this was not the case evidently.

No one stopped the men and women marching inside the senate building, imitating a lockdown of the building, no one was to leave not the politicians, servants, staff not anyone, not until Hanlon said otherwise as he immediately headed straight for the offices, it seemed like chaos inside the senate building with people being dragged and shoved by soldiers, this didn’t break Hanlon’s stride and strut however as he was just outside the door from Theodora and Richard.

“Get this door open…” He simply ordered as the two soldiers escorting him nodded to each other and in unison kicked the door down and proceeded to breach the room, Theodora let out a short scream as they breached however Richard in his anger began marching toward Hanlon. “Hanlon you son of a bitch! I should’ve had you smoked in Arkalrius!” As Richard finished he went to try and throw a punch right toward Hanlon’s face.
Hanlon managed to grab the incoming fist and knee the president right in his stomach, one of the soldiers then proceeded to butt the president in the head as he fell to the floor groaning in pain, Hanlon looked down to him with a look as if he pitied the president, Theodora of course didn’t dare do anything as at this point she was just surprised and shocked she hadn’t been killed yet.

“Right… sir president and madam chancellor, you can sit down and relax this will take a minute or two, get comfy…” He simply said and left the office leaving the two politicians there with the soldiers guarding them, Richard still groaning in pain on the floor, and with Theodora siting down on a nearby sofa looking like a battered housewife.
As Hanlon exited the office an officer with his posse of soldiers approached Hanlon. “Report.” Hanlon simply demanded.
“The staff have been gathered in the near by lobbies, the politicians that are here have been put in the senate room and are awaiting your the address of the Chancellor and President.” He said swiftly with no mistakes, Hanlon nodded to him and patted him on the shoulder. “Good man, make sure they don’t do anything stupid, they’ll be getting something a bit more up my street, under new management…”

10:30PM 2019 Fargo, Senate Building

In exactly an hour and thirty minutes the clock would strike dead at twelve and New Years would be declared, any and all politicians in the Fargo senate building had been rounded up in the main senate hall surrounded by Hanlon’s military, all looked worried and all wondered what the hell was actually going on, they’d have their answers soon enough however as the chancellor and president were escorted into the room and onto the podium with four soldiers escorting them.
One of the soldiers came up to the podium to speak into the microphone “The president and chancellor will now give their addresses, silence in the senate.” He simply said and assumed his previous position as Richard and Theodora came up to the podium with defeated looks upon their faces, they’d look to the senate, then to the soldiers, then finally to each other before Richard spoke up.

“With… a mandate from the people of the Wolfen republic, a mandate brought to us by the military, it has become evident that the current government is exceptionally… unpopular… with this revelation to us, I president Richard Dorfman…”
“And I chancellor Theodora Quhencia…” both would pause for a brief moment to look to each other with both terrified expressions before Richard would resume talking.
“Will both… resign…”

As soon as the word ‘resign’ was sounded in the senate the room went into an uproar as the politicians began shouting and causing general upheaval with the revelation of what was going on, this chaos was only halted as a soldier in the middle of the senate room fired his rifle to contain the roaring senators, this of course got all the politicians to be quiet again as they all sat down.

“We would also like to apologise for our previous policies in which we have enacted, in hopes of making a truly universal state, without realising what culture and people’s we’d be… tearing apart…” Richard continued his speech, gritting his teeth at times at the words he was forced to say, his hatred for Hanlon and for Rufuinan nationalism put him on edge, but he knew if he did he’d be putting himself, his senators, and Theodora at risk.

“With that we will leave you all here now in the trusted hands of our military, good night everyone…” He said as him and Theodora were taken out of the room, this time with no uproar from the senators in the room whom knew what could happen if they tried their luck again, this time Hanlon entered the senate room and all eyes were on him as he stepped up to the podium, he leaned in and placed his hands on each edge of the podium eying the crowd infant of him.

“Now then, as you all know in the constitution it is stated that no military officer above the rank of colonel is authorised to enter the Fargo senate, does anyone dare to remove me?” He asked looking to the crowd infant of him, some looked like they were considering standing up, some simply looked down at their laps not saying anything, it seemed no one dared to stand up against Hanlon however.
Hanlon smirked as he looked at the silent crowd in front of him, as if he pitied them, “I didn’t think you would, in-fact, I knew none of you would, you all expressed pride and so called courage once when you all had the metaphorical gun in your hand, the riots, the protests, all the way back to the end of the civil war, now the gun is where is where it belongs, it belongs to the people of Rufuina and they’re pointing it at you.
From this point on you’re all dismissed from your positions until further notice, go home, don’t think about running, because we know and if we know, the people will know.” He simply said leaving the podium and heading outside, the senators were rounded up again by the soldiers inside and were taken home under strict watch from the military, no traitors could be within their midsts, not while their victory was so close.

Hanlon headed outside and toward a crowd of Rufuinan protesters, many letting out cheers of support for their war hero Hanlon, but Hanlon raised his arms to hush the crowd so that his voice may be heard.
“Sons and daughters of Rufuina, earlier today I was given direct orders from the president and the chancellor to quell your patriotism, to put you all down by force and to have you return to your homes.”
The crowd let out a boo at the mention of the president and chancellor very briefly before Hanlon resumed speaking.
“In times like these an action must be met with a quick reaction that includes force to deter any and all forms of their aggression against you, ladies and gentlemen by midnight, as we turn into a new year, a new decade, the Wolfen republic will be -NO MORE-, Rufuina will be restored and our former lands lost at the end of the civil war will be ours again!”
As Hanlon finished up the crowd began to let out cheers many began embracing one another to hear that the end of the Wolfen republic was to come about and that Rufuina’s lands were to be restored to their original borders.
“I do not promise you democracy, never has there ever been a democratic Rufuina, nor shall there be, democracy works for many places around the world but it does not and cannot work for Rufuina! Celebrate now ladies and gentlemen but hard times come ahead, if progress is to be made it must be made with determination and backbone, good night everyone and a happy new year…”

When the Rufuinan civil war came to an end a certain deal was struck, a deal that would embarrass the Wolfen republic for generations to come, in order to win the civil war against the Rufuinans, they had to ensure the loyalty of regional mercenaries with the promises of territory carved out just for them, if it wasn’t for them the Wolfen’s never would’ve won their civil war, this treaty was signed right after the civil war known as the ‘Caravey Concordat’, which would carve up two new regions for the two main mercenary bands that fought for the Wolfens, since they could not pay them in money.
Both these territories essentially became the property of two local warlords against one another attempting to try and take each other’s lands, with hardly any justice for those living there anarchy and bloodshed was the norm of the day in the two regions, one region known as the ‘Conroy Region’ and the other known as the ‘Junroar Region’, both lead by brutal dictatorial warlords who’ve ruled over 100 years and have controlled their regions with iron fists… until now…

2nd January 2020 9:34 PM, Conroy Region

“Well what did they say?! TELL ME WHAT THEY SAID!” Kennidid Karlov the leader of the Conroy region was in a state of absolute fear, panic, but most of all absolute rage, Kennidid had made attempts at contacting the Rufuinan administration however none of them were even responding to them, his subordinates in his room were just as panicked and afraid as him, however none dared to voice their rage as if they had any.
“Th-they’ve said nothing! We can’t reach them through anything! None of the transmissions, comm lines, scouts, nothing!”
“Not good enough!” Kennidid shouted at one of his subordinates whom had given him the details on the situation, he had decided to reward his subordinate by reaching for his gun and storing a bullet into his head with a pull of the trigger.

His body fell to the ground with a thud and the other men in the room looked totally distraught, they knew a regime that had just experienced a military coup could never be good for anything, and the fact that they had no way of communicating with them made the situation even more frightening for them.

Due to Kennidid’s paranoia he put the compound on alert for now, meaning his ‘troops’ which were more simply barely trained goons with guns had to endure more patrols in the dead of night, at the perimeter gate two such guards idly chatted with one another.
“Who’s this Hanlon guy anyway? Not big on Wolfen politics…” One guard asked slowly slugging a beer afterward.
“War hero, used to be field Marshall of the army… now, he’s the top man, calls Wolfen ‘Rufuina’ now…” Replied but wasn’t necessarily looking at his buddy, as he was looking over at the town the compound rested near.
“Dumb name, you think they’ll come after us?”
“Boss certainly thinks so, I think it’s just a load of rhetoric to be honest, they won’t-” Without even a sound to pierce the air both perimeter guards were swiftly and silently shot from over a thousand yards away from two M82 sniper rifles.

"… … Two x-rays down … … " An S.O.D. sniper confirmed from a distance over a comm device.
“Copy, bravo-four moving through the perimeter gate…” As stated a team of four S.O.D. operatives made their way through the gate, with it being night time the operatives were decked out with the latest night vision gear to help them in their environment, as they entered the open area the team made sure to hug the walls to avoid detection until they got to the main building.
“Bravo-four this is charlie-two, coming in through the rear entrance…” Just on cue another team entered the compound through a security door, a quick glance from bravo-four showed the quick work charlie-two and his team had made of those guarding the rear entrance and to a small alley behind the main compound building.

“Does Rick like Ludwiser?” A guard asked his fellow patrolman holding up a six pack of beers in one hand, and his rifle held in the other.
“Halt, wait for them to come around the corner…” bravo-four ushered through the comm, making sure to be absolutely silent as to not alert the incoming pair seemingly heading for the security door, both a bravo and charlie team member put down their rifles to the side and nodded to each other from behind cover, preparing for a coordinated take down.
“Rick doesn’t like beer in general, he prefers his-” Just as the two patrolmen were walking not suspecting anything they were both swiftly and silently taken down on the floor.
“Quiet!” The bravo member whom had taken down his respected patrolman ushered rather harshly, as they were both down two other members went to aid by swiftly seeking to butt the patrolmen’s heads with the stock of their rifles, knock them both out to be dragged away by two other operatives.

“On me, at the door.” bravo-four ordered, as both bravo team and charlie team gathered at each side of the door they listened in to the other side of the door, for a brief moment.
“Kennidid’s losing his shit, heard the gunshot from upstairs?” A soldier inside spoke to his comrade, both looked concerned and somewhat startled, another one was simply taking a nap with a rifle right beside him just incase.
“Yeah, I think he shot Duncan.”
Bravo team peeped inside through a window briefly to confirm the amount of hostiles inside, “Three x-rays inside.” Bravo-two confirmed to his squad mates.
“Copy, in position.” Bravo-four stated, he’d look to charlie team whom nodded a confirmation to state they were ready, “Go in, drop them…” He ushered again as he opened the door allowing charlie-two to breach inside as he proceeded to drop the two guards who were having their conversation, this of course woke up the sleeping guard who immediately went for his gun, however it was too late for him as bravo-four covered charlie-two’s right with a shot to the head.

“Floor secure…” Charlie-two confirmed, “There’s a switch board here, we can turn all the lights off.”
“Do it.” Bravo-four confirmed, a member of charlie team proceeded to switch all the electrics off to the building, giving the S.O.D. team a clear advantage thanks to their night vision gear, which worked in unison with their IR laser sights on their guns, which couldn’t be seen by the naked eye but however could be seen with some night vision. “Rally at the stairs.”
Back inside the room with Kennidid and his men the lights had just gone off causing him to panic, “What the fuck?! Get the lights back on! Who the hell turned them… off…” He said as he lowered his voice he was slowly coming to the realisation of what was happening, lights didn’t just turn off with their own generator and under no circumstance would his own men turn them off to annoy him at a time like this, he knew why Rufuina wasn’t responding now.

“Fuck fuck fuck! Aahh! Get yourselves armed now! They’re here!” Kennidid ordered from the second floor of the building, he ran upstairs to the third and top floor of the building as his men scurried around looking for their weapons in pitch black darkness.
“Bravo-four moving to the first floor…” Bravo-four stated as he and a mix of both teams proceeded in a line formation to the first floor of the building, each man watching carefully for any form of small movements that could be a man waiting for them with a gun.

A few fire fights ensued with the S.O.D. facing minimal casualties against the soldiers of the Conroy region and eventually, bravo team had made it to the last stair case leading to the top level, “Last floor, let’s get this done.” Bravo-four ordered as two operatives charlie-two and bravo-four proceeded to the last level.
“Come on where is it?! Fuck!” Kennidid had locked himself inside an improvised panic room that in reality was just an attic room with a locked metal door, Charlie-two attempted to open the door with a simple turn of the knob only to discover it was locked. “Locked…”
“Check your shots.” Bravo-four said as he took out a military crowbar to pry the door open, and the two operatives proceeded inside much to the shock of Kennidid whom immediately put his hands up but was still frantically looking around. “Wait don’t shoot! Don’t kill me!”

“Base this is bravo-four, primary target sighted.” Bravo-four stated into the comm “Awaiting confirmation on order.” Both operatives pointed their guns directly aimed at Kennidid’s torso as he was still frantically looking around however still with his hands up facing the two men. “Stop moving! Get down!” Charlie-two shouted at Kennidid whilst bravo-four simply kept his sights on him awaiting orders through the comm.
“What is it you want?! Money?! I’ve got money! You can take it all just let me go!”
“Bravo-four this is base speaking, you’re clear to proceed.” A voice said into bravo-four’s comm device.
“Copy, drop him.” Bravo-four ordered.
“NO WAIT!” Kennidid desperately cried out before his lights were turned out one final time as the two operatives shot him dead, his body falling to the floor with a loud thud and with that the two operatives lowered their weapons and stood at ease.

“All teams and base compound is secure, commence SSE and base takeover.” Bravo-four ordered pulling up his night vision visor with a sigh of satisfaction.
“Copy boss.”
“Will do.”
“Yes sir.”
All the other operatives confirmed their orders over the comms.
“Search the place corporal, see what you can find.” Bravo-four ordered charlie-two, charlie-two proceeded to the desk that was behind Kennidid which had various things such as money bundles, passports, a computer a radio, and perhaps most alarmingly a pocket shotgun.

“Bloody naura, he was going for a fuckin’ pocket shotgun, those things are killers.”
“Good thing we were ordered to drop him then?”
“It was the right thing to do sir?”
“You bet your arse, we just took out one of Arcturia’s most infamous warlords.” Bravo-four said with a smile patting his fellow operative on the back, the operation was done and the army would soon be sent in to secure the Conroy region as well as the Junroar region after having assassinated their local warlord, with such Rufuina’s borders would finally be returned to their original state before the Rufuinan civil war.
The people’s of both regions amazed and overwhelmed with joy to finally have security returned to their streets and homes quickly becoming pro Rufuinan nationalists after having to suffer and endure the wrath of two of Arcturia’s most infamous warlords.
