Urthvision VI

Urthvision VI
“To Celebrate Peace and Friendship”
September 1st - 11th 2018

Welcome one and all to Urthvision VI, hosted by the Cerdani Democratic Republic!

Held in the Palace of the Republic, up to 7,000 spectators will come to watch Urthvision VI in East Berlien. It is expected that the amount of people coming to the DDR will rise to more than 50,000 and there will be room to accommodate all of our guests. Even though the Cerdani Democratic Republic is hosting the Urthvision festival, there will be many chances for everyone to feel at home, as there will be cultural festivities for each of the participating nations, featuring food from the nation’s culture, dance and music. All of the fun will happen within three kilometres of the Palace of the Republic; and will be near majority of the accommodation for our guests and artists. While staying here you can also explore the historic city of East Berlien and experience our unique socialist culture, from the parks and plazas to the museums and towers, whatever you decide to do it will be an unforgettable experience!

THE VENUE

The Palace of the Republic is the perfect venue for the Urthvision Festival, with it’s famous white marble and bronze glass exterior to it’s top-of-the-class technology, stylish stage design and numerous amenities. The venue was opened in 1974, and has been used for many events in the DDR, including a sell out concert by Dschingis Khaan, who won the previous Urthvision festival. Holding up to 7,000 people, this venue has plenty of space for spectators, and tickets will be delegated to each nation fairly.

The venue is easy to reach, only a 10 minute walk away from the main train station and with a metro station underneath, free shuttle bus services will be running for people who present a valid ticket at the Airport and Train Stations. The airport is a 25 minute bus journey away or 5 minutes by train, all tickets for travelling will be heavily discounted to valid ticket holders to encourage them to experience East Berlien.

For those wishing to stay for the whole festival, the Ministry of Culture in partnership with Interflug are offering an ‘‘all-inclusive’’ ticket for foreigners, which will include a return plane journey, a week long stay in a 4* Hotel, free food while in East Berlien at top restaurants, a ticket to the Urthvision Festival show, a backstage tour of the Palace of the Republic auditorium, and free public transportation around the city. Prices for this ticket increase depending on how long you intend to stay in East Berlien for.

THE THEME

The Urthvision Festival brings together nations from all over the globe regardless of ethnicity, species or language to celebrate the one true universal language common to us all - music. The theme of ‘Peace and Friendship’ is a reminder that all nations despite all being different, can all come together through music and unite through a common course to celebrate the friendships we make and the peace between our peoples. We invite nations attending this Urthvision to come celebrate with us and to create their own representations of how they celebrate Friendship and Peace whether it be through a video, an act or even a speech!

THE HOST

Jürgen Pipp Walter will be your host for Urthvision VI. He is a talented musician from the south of the country and is the founder of the popular “Oktober Klub” musical group. He has hosted the annual talent shows in the Palace of the Republic for the past 4 years and has moderated numerous other musical concerts and events across the country. He has toured globally and is one of few musical artists to be awarded the “Order of Karl Marx” for cultural achievements. He will be joined by numerous other famous artists from the DDR during the show including the now world-famous Dschingis Khaan.
The Urthvision Regulations Committee to codifies and enforces a set of statutes that all Songfestivals follow. Alterations to these statutes will be allowed to take place twice-annually at pre-scheduled conferences composed of all nations participating in membership within the URC. Participation in the Songfestival does not require membership within the URC, but member nations will be afforded preference when dealing with song order, accommodations, and commercial and broadcast rights.

Membership within the URC is dependent on an annual donation proportionate to the nations GDP but will not recede past 5 million Auroran Standard Kiribs. Those members which donate more than 50 million ASK will be afforded the status of Boardmember, being able to make administrative and organizational decisions in conjunction with other Boardmembers.

Organizational:
The voting system will have participating nations poll their citizens through the use of the television broadcast, using whatever means necessary to collect the votes of the citizens, in the format of a list of all participating nations from first to last. The exact circumstances of the point system will be dependant on the nations participating and will be decided between the URC Board and the host nation.
If a nation that is not a member of the URC wins the contest, they agree on virtue of participation to abide by all rules and regulations the URC enforces and to accommodate the URC Board in planning out the next contest.

All participating nations must donate an amount of Kiribs submitted by the host nation and approved by the URC Board between 500,000 and 2 million in order to pay for construction of any necessary facilities, cover expenses for their nations’ entourage, and to collectively pay for prizes and trophies.

The host nation is responsible for the accomodation, transport, security, and successful performance of all participants. URC officials will be present where necessary to ensure all reasonable means are being undertaken to ensure each participating nation is treated fair and equitably.

All performers are required to possess a visa and residence within the nation they represent. Citizenship is not required.

Political relationships are forbidden to take precedence over the festival, as it is a celebration of culture and art. If a participant broadcaster suspends or alters their localized version of the host broadcast, they will be subject to a fine proportional to the changes made.

The host nation must be able to provide the following when selecting a city:

-The chosen venue must be able to house a minimum of 6,000 persons in an arena-style location designed to be able to host concerts.

-The chosen venue must be able to provide reasonable access to restroom, medical, and concessions facilities for all persons and species, whether able bodied or disabled.

-Venues must also be provided for the opening and closing ceremonies of at least 2,000 attendees.

-The host city must have enough hotel and resort space within 2 kilometers of the venue able to accommodate upwards of 5,000 people which include national delegations and press, but also attendees and fans.

-The host city must be able to guarantee the safety and security of participants, members of delegations and guests.

-The host city must have within the city limits a hospital and police organization numbering at least 1,000 officers, robust public transport, an international airport within 10
kilometers, access to reasonable sized roadways, and be able to provide fast and direct transport from each accomodation area to the venues for performance and official ceremonies.

-The host city must provide a recommended exploration program for visitors and performers in order to showcase, promote, and expand the culture, food, industry, environment, etc. of the host city and nation.

-The host city must have a robust broadcast and satellite up-link capability in order to disseminate the contest broadcast internationally.

A nation is permitted a non-mandatory one-minute video to preface their performance. The video may only contain content that references the performer and their home nation. Anything promoting tourism, the government, the military, the international or colonial presence of the nation, the current venue, commercial products, etc is forbidden. Any content that is associated with the performers’ prior musical career, or any content that is similar or identical to any music videos or promotional content for the musical work itself is forbidden. All videos will be screened prior to the event. In the case that a nations’ video is found to violate any regulations, there will be no opportunity to submit another.

Any personnel associated with a nations’ entourage that commit a criminal offense while visit the city, including but not limited to destruction of property, operating a vehicle without the associated license, consumption of a controlled substance while operating a vehicle, illegal acquisition or possession of a weapon, inhabiting the sovereign area without a proper visa, murder, assault, sexual misconduct, vandalism, public nuisance, poaching, libel, invasion of privacy, theft, burglary, possession of an illicit substance, malicious destruction of environment, animal cruelty, littering, obstruction of justice, verbal assault with intent to disparage race, species, culture, ethnicity, sexuality, financial situation, gender, intelligence, or dress, and all other codified infractions and felonies within host nation law will be arrested, detained, prosecuted, sentenced and served to the fullest extent of sovereign law.

Waivers concerning personnel issues and all other legal documentation can be found below.

Broadcasting-

The host nations selected broadcast provider maintains complete control over the broadcast and all aspects including preproduction, production, postproduction, editing, scripting, commentation, documentation, dissemination, commercial time and advertisers, guest selection, performance order, opening, closing, and intermission presentation, etc.

National broadcasters that receive the feed will be responsible for translation and localization of on-screen text.

Film and news staff are not permitted to cover the presentation of musical acts. They will be permitted to broadcast their own coverage of the red carpet and closing ceremonies only.

All broadcast equipment and dissemination methods must be cleared with the appropriate law enforcement and broadcast provider beforehand. Any unauthorized broadcasts or equipment will result in the ejection of the nations delegation and their forfeiture of the contest.

All news or film staff wishing to cover their nations performance and activities will be included within the 150 person limit.

All news and entertainment broadcasts must be output through state-mandated lines of communication which will be arranged with the broadcast provider beforehand.

No foreign news or entertainment firm is permitted to broadcast any footage shot by a tourist, citizen, participant, staff member, or diplomatic personage until 1 week after the official broadcast of the contest.

All entities wishing to film or otherwise broadcast content covering any person from their nation, or another participating nation, or the host nation, must submit the associated legal documentation that this person or persons gave explicit consent and otherwise understand that their likeness will appear on national and international television, no matter what they may be filmed doing.

Waivers concerning broadcast rights and all other associated legal and corporate paperwork can be found below.

Players are allowed to submit a performance from ONE of their nations. If they submit multiple proposals from multiple nations, one will be chosen arbitrarily.

The video you submit must be of a musical work. Preferably the video will be of a live performance to allow voting players to understand the dynamic of the music when being performed on a stage rather than just the merits of the composition alone.

Your submission cannot exceed six minutes. The Shorter the Better. CAVEAT: If your song is part of a larger video, please indicate the timecode of where it stops and where it ends to help determine if it fits the length requirements.

Your submission must have been conceived or otherwise recorded in the last 40 years. This does not mean the version of the music itself, but rather when the original version came into being.

Pick a new artist if the artist has represented your nation in any previous Urthvision Competitions.

A preface video is not necessary

Submit your content by a forum PM or by a Discord DM (Arramall#8553)

Your submission must contain a link to a youtube, dailymotion, or vimeo video of your musical act, the name of the song and the performer, and whether or not you are interested in joining the Urthvision Regulations Committee.

If you would like to be considered for the Best Theme Award, please include a short blurb (no more than five sentences) along with your submission detailing how your submission matches the theme (“Take flight and celebrate life!”). The URC will judge the submissions, and will emphasize submissions that combine their nation’s culture with the theme of this competition

Your submission must be in no later than 12 a.m. AWST (GMT+8) on Saturday September 1.

Voting will begin on Monday September 3 at 12 a.m. AWST (GMT+8) and will last until Monday, September 10 at 12 a.m. AWST (GMT+8) . Winners will be announced on Tuesday, September 11.

The night had come, the night when East Berlien would be in the spotlight and that the Cerdani Democratic Republic would host the Urthvision Song Festival for the first time, and the government was determined to pull off the best show possible.

Thousands of fans from across Urth flooded into the Palace of the Republic, a swarm coming in via tram, metro, bus and practically every other form of transportation. A buzzing atmosphere hung around the building, excitement dripping from the air and filling the audience, not just in the stadium but online and on televisions everywhere, people tuned in to watch the grand spectacle, a week of music, of fun and of good times.

Technicians were going through their final checks ensuring everything was running perfectly, the lights on the stage then began to dim as the crowd started cheering.

The live feed then cut from the DDR 1 Würfel - YouTube to a large overview of the dark auditorium and stage area where the national orchestra sat at the very back.

“Good evening, and welcome to the 6th Urthvision Song Festival, held in East Berlien! It’s the first time the Cerdani Democratic Republic has hosted an international event, and we’re excited to bring it to you all, live!” a loud voice spoke out from the speakers.

The crowd let out an almighty cheer as the camera showed fans with flags painted on their faces, fans waving their nation’s flag, and some fans even dressed up similar to acts from their respective nations in the past.

As the crowd started to quiet down the conductor grabbed his baton and began directing the orchestra in a playing of the East Germany National Anthem (Instrumental) - YouTube as the flag of East Cerdani lowers down at the back of the stage.

With the anthem finished Jürgen Walter walks out onto the stage, holding his microphone in hand he raises it up to his mouth as he looks around at the crowd “We’ve got a great show for you tonight! We have five participating nations, all of whom will be vying for first place, and there can only be one! I’m sure you’re all ready to start!”

The crowd lets out a deafening cheer as the cameras pan out from Jürgen to show the crowds screaming and waving as it moves past.

“Without further adue let’s introduce our performers!” Jürgen calls out as the crowd starts to quieten down.

“From Absurdistan we have The Stop-Gap Solution!” Jürgen proclaims as the artists and a small delegation walk onto the stage as the flag of Absurdistan lowers down at the rear of the stage behind them. The crowd applauded and cheered as a group of Absurdivanis in the audience whistled and cheered.

“New Leganes next with E Durne!” is announced out by Jürgen as E Durne and the Leganian delegates stroll onto the stage. The New Leganes flag lowers down next to the Absurdistan one as they wave and smile at the eager crowd.

“Folds from Kyrloth!” Jürgen calls out as the band walks onto the stage and as a group of fervent fans with the flag of Kyrloth painted on their face cheer out “FOLDS! FOLDS!”

As the flag of New Leganes locks down Jürgen introduces the next performers “Blueacia with their Eline Bron and Sieger Rasta!” The flag of Blueacia lowers down neatly next to New Leganes as the two take the stage and wave at the audience.

As the two walk off the stage the final performers are introduced “From Free Syllvin we have Petre DiDelusto!” the artist walks out onto the stage alongside his small entourage as the flag lowers down.

“And we Chevy Metal from Xagrug!” Jürgen introduces as the band walks across the stage.

With the stage now empty save for Jürgen and the orchestra, the audience quietens down as the lights dim once again and the large screens display the logo of Urthvision VI.

“And now, let the 6th Urthvision Song Festival begin!” Jürgen proclaimed as a big logo of 6th Urthvision Song Festival lowered down on top of the flags. A few seconds later the music for “Moskau” started playing and the audience screamed and applauded as the winners of the previous Urthvision, Dschinghis Khaan, ran out on stage in costume.

After finishing their performance to the applause and cheers of the crowd the group ran off stage as Jürgen walked back to the centre as a large digital board was moved in front of the orchestra.

As the orchestra quietly vacated the stage behind the board Jürgen addressed the crowd “Ladies and gentlemen, without further delay, let’s welcome our first performers for tonight!”

“From Kyrloth we have Folds who will be performing FOALS - Albatross [Official Live CCTV Session] - YouTube

“Great stuff Folds! Now we have The Stop-Gap Solution from Absurdistan bringing us - YouTube” Jürgen announced as the band took to the stage.

As the Absurdivanis left the stage the next band was called up “Now it’s time for Chevy Metal and their song, Foo Fighters - Alone + Easy Target (Live at Reading Festival 2012) - YouTube

With Chevy Metal off the stage Jürgen called up the next band “What a fantastic performance Chevy Metal! Let’s hand it over to E Durne for his performance of his song, Edurne - Amanecer (Spain) - LIVE at Eurovision 2015 Grand Final - YouTube

Jürgen clapped as he walked up on the stage “Great stuff from New Leganes! Next up we have the wonderful Eline Bron and Sieger Rasta with Elina Born & Stig Rästa - Goodbye To Yesterday (Estonia) - LIVE at Eurovision 2015 Grand Final - YouTube

As Eline and Sieger walked off the stage Jürgen ran back onto the centre once again “And now for Petre DiDelusto from Free Syllvin and his single, Italia - Francesco Gabbani con "Occidentali's Karma" - Eurovision Song Contest 13/05/2017 - YouTube

“And lastly, our nation’s competitor, Burrito with - YouTube

With the performances finished the cameras zoomed back in to Jürgen as he stood in the centre of the stage, the crowd slowly quietening down as he brought the microphone back up.

“Now those were some phenomenal performances! But there can only be one winner and the decision is yours!” Jürgen said as the stage once again dimmed and the screens lit up.

The large screens then started playing a short informational video on the voting process for Urthvision. It explained that voters can vote online or by phone for a 48 hour period starting now.

As the video finished and the stage lit up Jürgen addressed the crowd.

“Remember you can rewatch all of the performances on our website! You only have 48 hours to vote, so cast your vote now so you don’t miss out!”

As the camera panned out and across the crowd Jürgen spoke over the footage.

“I’d like to thank all you for attending! Whether you are here in person or watching us from across the other side of the globe it’s been an honour. Thank you once again and goodnight folks!”

The camera then changed to a live outside shot of the Palace of the Republic, showing a few people entering and exiting the brightly lit building.

The credits for the event rolled over the screen for the next few minutes as large groups started exiting from the building.

Eventually it transitioned back to the regular DDR F1 Würfel - YouTube played between programs.
Post here your nation’s votes, in ascending order of points. The top performance (and first on the list) should be worth 6 points, decreasing in point value until 1 point is reached. Do not vote for your nation. Submit either the nation of the performer, or the name of the artist or band.

Ries gafe vederek, buenas noches, good evening, nations of Urth!!

Wave after wave, wave after wave, slowly drifting…
Yeah, you still remember me: I’m Porbes, New Leganes’ singer from last edition. Then I finished in second place, just behind the great Dschinghis Khaan, and now I and my nation send the best wishes to all the musicians participating, specially to our E Durne.

Tesara Nira
Sund! Hello! Tesara Nira here, live from AZ, Kyrloth! Our team of nerds and nutjobs have been checking all the systems and making sure the Kyrloth live vote is all correct and valid!

(the camera pans to a group of technicians, who are crowding around a computer monitor, sharing a packet of biscuits; one of them turns around, notices the camera, and waves)

Tesara Nira
And the results are in! Congratulations to The Stop-Gap Solution of Absurdistan! Fun fact- I’m actually going there on holiday next month. See you there!

The scene in Grand Fenwick was hype. Months ago, pop-punk’s biggest label had been in control of the government, and proceeded to launch several initiatives that were most decidedly pop-punk. The Absurdvanis had endured a month-long ordeal of mandatory requirements to wear eyeliner, rebel against ones’ parents, trashing of business establishments, and, in an ironic twist, cursing and raging against the government. Absurdistan was one power chord away from full-on chaos, the underground finally becoming mainstream. Maybe the Stop-Gap Solution’s entry into the Urthivision competition was one chord.

A reporter from Grand Fenwick Today, Absurdistan’s main news service (besides whatever social media app Chirpr has trending) was interviewing the former Man of Absurdistan, Brie Dupree, about the prospects of pop-punk in a most decidedly non-pop punk atmosphere. “I have to ask, Brie, when are you getting your band back together? There’s been a lot of demand for a comeback.” The reporter asked the lead singer-turned-CEO-turned-President-turned-CEO.

Brie was coy with her response, something she had learned while being the Man of Absurdistan. “Well, there’s a lot of differences in music and direction that I and the band want to go in. Some of us want to chill in my parent’s basement, but some of us want to get an apartment in the city, so we have a lot on our plate to figure out, but to all our fans out there, thanks for the love, and maybe, some day, we might get back together for you.”

She blew a kiss into the camera, while the interviewer clutched his earpiece as he received news. “Well, it looks like the result from Absurdistan for the Urthvision Songfestival competition is coming in. Someone accidentally threw the results into a dumpster fire, but we were able to see them before they were thrown in… Brie, since you’re here, would you like to announce the result?”

Brie Dupree was miffed that she wasn’t the subject of the interview anymore, but she assented. She pulled the piece out from the interviewer’s ear, listened to it, and gave the result.

"Okay, here we go. Absurdistan’s Urthvision VI result is,

1 point - From Kyrloth, Folds, with Albatross
2 points - From Xagrurg, Chevy Metal, with Did You Ever Listen
3 points - From Blueacia, Eline Bron and Sieger Rasta, with Goodbye to Yesterday
4 points - From East Cerdani, Burrito, with Putting on the Ritz
5 points - From Free Syllvin, Petre DiDelusto, with Western Kharma
and with 6 points - From New Leganes, E. Durne, with Amanecer"

Brie pouted a bit, and mumbled to the microphone in front of her, “I would have gone with Chevy Metal to win it all, but that’s the reason why we’re still underground here in Absurdistan, man. If we were mainstream, we wouldn’t have sent in some dude singing about spaghetti last competition. Vote for The Stop-Gap Solution, people of Urth!”

The interviewer took back his earpiece, and composing himself, continued the interview with Brie Dupree, former Man of Absurdistan.

As Xagrurg goes through another grunge and punk rock revival, mainly due to people venting out their angst and troubles from the recession from several months ago along with the Auroran-Pacific War, life is relatively normal in the nation. The economy is recovering gradually from increased commerce, bands of days gone are reuniting and touring once more, record labels are signing on new rock stars resulting in said “revival of rock” in the nation, etcetera. Meanwhile, millions are watching the Urthvisom from their television sets and computers, voting on who should get how many points. Eventually, the votes are totaled by the Xagrurgian National News Network and proceeded to be announced on live television.

“Welcome back to XNNN folks and this time, we’re not bringing any bad news like riots this time!” The reporter joked, secretly hoping he won’t be fired for making that. “This time, we’re going to announce the people’s decision on who shall get how many points!” (Proceeds to look to a greenscreen where the results are displayed)

6 points will be going to… Absurdistan!

5 points go to Kyrloth!
4 points go to Western Karma of Free Sylvin!
3 points to Blueacia!
2 of our points will go to the host of Urthvision, the Cerdani Democratic Republic!
And finally, the last point goes to… New Leganes!

“It’s been a pleasure announcing the results of Xagrurg’s votes to Urthvision folks. Now onto our own set for the rest of this broadcast is a live performance by Nervena, playing their hit song Lithium! Take it away guys! (Nervena proceeds to play Territorial Pisses and then trashes the stage as they leave.) The announcer is silent for a moment and then continues, “Wasn’t quite we expected but great performance nevertheless by Nervena. They’ve also told me they’re avaiaible for children’s birthday parties and bar mitzvahs,” he joked. “Pleasure having you tonight folks.” The announcer nods as the camera retracts and fades out with the audience applauding away.

The cameras and lights lit up as Jurgen sat a desk with the logo of Urthvision and the flags of the participating nations behind him.

“Now here are the voting results from the Cerdani Democratic Republic” Jurgen said as the screen transition to a scoreboard, showing the scores.

6 Points to Blueacia
5 Points to Free Syllvin
4 Points to Absurdistan
3 Points to Kyrloth
2 Points to New Leganes
1 Point to Xagrug
“With the voting closed, on behalf of the Urthvision Committee, and the Cerdani Democratic Republic, would like to quickly thank each and every single person involved in creating, making or watching the contest and making it such a huge success! We would like to also say what a huge honour and pleasure it is to have the world’s biggest contest here in East Berlitow and look forward to possibly, but hopefully hosting it a second time in the future! Thank you!”

“And so, we are proud to announce that we now have a winner!” As he said this, a woman walked up to the side of the desk, with an envelope in hand. “Thank you” Jurgen, said as the woman handed him a sealed envelope. As the woman walked off Jurgen opened the envelope slowly, pulling out a letter.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of the Sixth Urthvision Song Festival is-”
The Stop-Gap Solution from Absurdistan with 26 Points!!
The screen then flashed Absurdistan’s name and replayed the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJcMMgwq0co.

“Thank you for watching the official transmissions of the 6th Urthvision Song Festival! I look forward to seeing you all in Absurdistan for the 7th Urthvision Song Festival in the future. On behalf of everyone here I wish you a good night.”

With the announcement over the screen then transitioned back to the logo of the 6th Urthvision overlaid with silent footage of the various performances.

Across the city there were loud cheers for the winners and visitors from Absurdistan could be seen waving their flag madly in the streets as they celebrated their victory.

After finishing up a short playback of the performances the broadcast then switched back to the regular east german tv: evening weather report - YouTube until the next TV programme was due to start.
