Why should you complete this class?
The bulk of NS is speech and debate. You cannot pass legislation or win political office if you are incapable of arguing your point. Of course, there is a difference between arguing for a proper reason and arguing because you enjoy arguing. Have a good reason: to make TEP better.
What is Speech and Debate?
Speech and Debate is the key to making people vote for you. It is taking the facts and showing people that the facts prove your point. Indeed, this game is a political simulation. Politics do not get more serious than OOC regional governments (gameplay). This regional government is special: people listen to reason. Take advantage of that and state your argument well. TEP will listen, and one day you might steer the ship.
An argument must answer the following questions:
Who, what, when, where, why, and how?
What: What will your argument will prove?
Who, when and where: In what situation or circumstances will your argument hold true?
How: How do the facts support your claim?
Why: Why do the facts support your claim?
Here is an example:
What: New York City has electricity.
How: NY has lights.
Why: Electricity makes light bulbs glow.
Who, when, and where: New York may not have electricity if the power is out and the lights are candles. New York may still have electricity during the day even if one can’t see any lights.
