Jân Drâpö, former Khagan-Chancellor of the Republic-Khantes of Dovakhan, was a pivotal force in bringing Dovakhan out of the ashes of the recent Continental War and entering it into the realm of modern Internationanl politics. Shortly after stepping down due to his wife’s illness, he sent a letter to the editor of the Dovakhanese New Star which summarised his reasons for chosing not to align Dovakhan with the Great Powers of the region (i.e. EPTO).
WHY NON-ALIGNMENT?
Jân-Jâk Drâpö
«Dovakhan has progressed enormously since the end of the Continental War, when forces aligned with the People’s Republic of Krechzianko invaded a politically-unstable Dovakhanese Republic. This is due to many factors. First is the sheer will of the Dovakhanese People to better their sort. Second is the substantial aid that Dovakhan received from surrounding nations, many of them members of the East Pacific Treaty Organisation.
Third, it is because Dovakhan knew when to ween off this helping hand, for Dovakhan would have never regained and eventually surpassed its pre-War potential had it not realised that it needed to use these resources to develop its internal market and not to lean on this monetary aid so long as open the gates for these nations and their multinational corporations to exploit Dovakhan’s vaste riches. It is thus the reason, despite its extreme gratitude towards these nations, why no reconstruction nation has yet entered a Free Trade Agreement with the Republic-Khanates.
These three things have made Dovakhan independant in the domains of economy (thus more financially solvent) and military an independant nuclear deterrant. Both of these would have been sacrificed had Dovakhan caved into pressure to become a fully-globalised market and had it joined the EPTO.
Now on to Dovakhan’s reason for joining the Non-Aligned Movement. Obviously, Dovakhan wishes to preserve the good financial and military record described in the last few paragraphs. This means emphasising a principle repeated throughout this article: independence. The East Pacific Non-Aligned Movement allows Dovakhan to join with other nations to form its own power bloc that can stand up against the forces of the Great Powers. And that is a very valuable thing.»
