XVIII. century EP

Ok, don’t say that I never do anything. Her is my proposal for starting an RP set in the late XVIIIth-early XIXth century.

As a matter of fact, I haven’t decided on the exact date. I would say the minimum starting date is 1770, becouse the industrial revolution is already starting, but you can still wear a tricorne, which is a really nice headpiece.

I guess you have to come up with the summary of you nations history in this period. You don’t have to write an essay, I’m perfectly content with a few sentences. After that we compare our notes and force some pausible plot line into it.

Frankly, i have never put really any thought into my nations history, so I’ve come up with most of this on the spot:

Before the XVIII. century East Hungary (as Lazlowia was known back than) was not a unified country. In 1710, the leading nobles gathered in Filepvár (today Lazlowgrad) and decided to create the “Great Union”. The “Constitution of Filepvár” laid down the fundations of the Kingdom of East Hungary, describing the rights on the nobility, the system of the Diet, the procedure of electing the king and other things. While it may seem like a form of constitutional monarchy, it was basically an aristocratic republic, firmly founded on feudalism. It was obvious that this can only sink into chaos. Yet, the king that nobles elected was not a pawn in their hands, but one who envisioned an absolute monarchy. So king Lõrinc (Lawrence) I. manged to fleece the power of the Diet and the nobility. After his death in 1763, his young son, Lõrinc II. came to power. Since than, the nobles are scheming against the king.

Well, that’s all I have now. Throw your ideas and rubber boots in.

I personally wouldn’t mind doing a 19th century TEP, something like 1870’s-ish. But yeah. Kind of into the steampunk stuff from time to time, might be interesting.

I’m not an expert on steampunk, but isn’t it the “what if Babbage’s computer had a widespread use” setting. Anyway, I’m open to anything.

Anyone else has anything to say? Please, someone reply. It’s the first time I do thins kind of thing, I don’t want to be left alone here.

Gain enough support and I’ll talk to Kandarin about making another alternate universe subforum.

I am interested.

from 1700-1800 Allegheny was called the Commonwealth of Allegheny, lead by Chancellor Alec Carter the VII. The Commonwealth was a fascist regime which controlled everything and kept a powerful professional military. The borders of Allegheny are pretty much the same as they are today. The church was destroyed in the 1400’s so that the commonwealth could control the people easier. There were only poor and rich there wasn’t a middle class to speak of until the Industrial Revolution.

1800-1900 after a 3 month civil war Allegheny was a pseudo republic / National Socialistic regime minus the racism, military power was the only thing the government was concerned about. All means of production were owned by the government. All led by the Ackerman Regime who duped the people into thinking he would change things. He kept his power through brainwashing, propaganda and fear.

The military of Allegheny consisted of professional well disciplined Line Infantry who fought through mass volley tactics, calvary charges, infantry charges and artillery bombardment. Making an Alleghenian foot regiment rout was next to impossible.

Once again, a nice idea i hope that works. But no Drakkengard here (too early…). Well, at least here the Von Drakken already exist, leading a 50000+ mercenary army around the region.
Will post here when time allows.

Actually, I now have second thoughts on this. I may not start it at all, since these alternate things never seem to work. Remember the +15 alternate universe? It got cancelled, and an earlier alternate subforum had a similar fate. I don’t think this would last very long, so better not start it at all. Sorry.

Son… I AM DISAPPOINT!!!

The Empire had collapsed by this point. There would be a few dessert dwelling tribes running around, but that’s it.

It was +10, and the prior alternate universe concept did just fine (although it was a long time ago and not many folks remember it). The fact that +10 was eventually canceled does not mean that plenty of us did not enjoy using it when the +10 plotline was running. Other alternate universes are the same, and indeed all RP plots share such traits: they’re fun and involving but eventually we wrap them up or move on to other things. Such is the way of RP. If this is intolerable for you (like so many other fundamental aspects of our RP system are clearly intolerable to you) I suggest that you look elsewhere instead of continually hand-wringing over the way things are.

This wins.

Seriously, if we do have enough people interested, maybe it’s time to give this AU a whirl?

Allegheny was the only serious taker so far. Well, I can take it. Nevertheless, we have to come up with at least some starting plot. Any ideas?

I’m trying to decide whether the royal family of the time would rather resemble Louis the Fourteenth, or Catherine the Second.

War and empire building were very popular pastimes of the day.

… Or of any day, really.

Year 1799 AD (1434 AE)

Emperor Demetrius

On this days, the empire is more a theocracy governed by the higher priests that by the emperor, there have been since the golden age hundreds of long lived emperors, which on their religious fanaticism believe themselves to be the living gods of the world, and through the powerful armies of the empire they control everything and make the people love them and adore them while they are afraid of their power, love and fear, the perfect formula for keeping a autocracy stable.

On this days the empire is ruled by the 22 years old and vicious emperor Demetrius, adopted son of the inept emperor Luyian, which formally made himself a figurehead without power, and while he ruled, the country was governed by the high priests of the Shivat Paganism.

In the empire, the corruption, the oppression and the rigid caste system make the peasants to revolt thousand of years, especially in the poorer and more difficult to control north, however the huge military of the empire, with more than a million soldiers, every revolt is followed by a bloody repression and public murders of revolt leaders.

And while the rest of the world goes from a dark age to a lightened one, the empire does the contrary…

How about the pressures, intrigues and eventual collapse of a Pax Britannica analogue? Shame it can’t be the Pax Pax, but I think we’ll survive regardless.

Since Kandarin is away (I sort of am too… just taking a break from this thing called finals), I could make such a thing happen. Let me think of a shnazzy name, and get on it, while I’m on a break not studying about the rheological properties of linear homopolymers.

By the way, did you know that the first normal stress difference of power-law non-newtonian liquids is independent of temperature? I do now sobs

yes i did know that. I want to give you a gift- trinite-trotalium

I’m thinking of doing a piece in an American Old West sort of setting. Looking at the collapse of the Ridannian Eternal Empire from the view point of citizens and other characters on the frontier of the empire.
