2022 Series One Championship

Hello and welcome to race 5 of the S1 season. Today we are in Petra Cauda.
This is the circuit we will be driving on:

Here are the results of the top 10 after qualifying:

  1. Pablo Saez 1:44.762
  2. Pedro Wilson 1:44.835 +0.073

  9. Alphonse Dubost 1:46.094 +1.332
  10. Mitch Noxal 1:46.128 +1.366

Now the race:
With a three-stop pit strategy, Matthieu Soyer took the lead on lap 23, overtaking the Bernitti-Domio drivers who had taken harder but slower tyres to stay out longer without having to pit. On lap 28, Metropol driver Leo Arntsen suffered a mechanical failure and had to pull into the pits to retire from the race.
On lap 38, the West Borean rookie, Kasran is’Vaara, attempted to take an aggressive line into the first corner and made contact with Sokalan driver Pablo Saez, spinning him around and destroying is’Vaara’s front wing. Although Saez was able to get going again with only cosmetic damage and is’Vaara managed to limp back to the pit lane for a new front wing, MetroCiv’s Alphonse Dubost, who had been lapped and was closely following the pair, had little time to react, and impacted is’Vaara’s rear left tyre, shearing Dubost’s suspension. This brought out a safety car that lasted for three laps; at the restart, is’Vaara made contact with Pedro Wilson, destroying is’Vaara’s second front wing in ten minutes. Matthieu Soyer was able to make a successful getaway and avoid the melee between the Bernitti-Domio, Spiiker and Tauríllielle drivers and created a large gap to the rest of the pack, claiming his fourth win of the season and increasing his championship lead by 21 points.

  10. Stefan Amanar 1:12.444 +1.269

And now the race:
Right from the start Novia Racing decided who needed to win if they had a say in it. Both is’Vaara and Soyer had good starts and were around 1 second away from the rest of the pack. At the start/finish straight is’Vaara got the already famous team radio: “Let Soyer past for the championship in turn 1.” When he didn’t do it at the start of lap 2 they told him again to do it in turn 1 the following lap. This time is’Vaara listened and they swapped positions, still driving away from the rest. Both the one stop and two stop could potentially work during this race, meaning both were picked by the drivers/teams. The people going for the two stop strategy started to come in. With around 10-15 laps waiting for the people who chose the 1 stop. Right around the time the 1 stoppers came in Lanfie’s car came to a halt with a big plume of smoke behind the car. Just then Kalming came in for his stop under the SC. but going out the team noticed they made a mistake and sent him away with wrong tyres, which meant they had to stop right away again and costing Marlan many positions he couldn’t loose. The rest of the race went swimmingly, except for Dubost. He had one of his best qualifications yesterday but just before the race ended his car also ceased to work. He was classified though as he had finished 95% of the race.

Here are the results of the race:

  1. Matthieu Soyer
  2. Kasran is’Vaara
  3. Kiha Iveli
  4. Pedro Wilson
  5. Pablo Saez

  9. Leo Arntsen 1:42.713 +2.471
  10. Žydre Glemzaite 1:42.841 +2.599

The race:
The qualification for Kasran is’Vaara was dissaster. the qualification started wet and dried at the last moment and he ran into traffic at the last corners before he could end his lap. meaning he lost lots of time, and he when he went again the best of his tyres was gone and he couldn’t improve enough to advance. The start of the race also was quite wet. but not wet enough to start on the wets. Everyone picked the intermidiate tyres. is’Vaara was one of the first to go to the dry weather tyres and gained a lot of positions because of it. A few laps later Soyer came in and changed to the medium tyres, when coming out of the pits he hit another driver breaking his front wing and because he braked so hard he flatspotted his tyres quite a lot. and had to come in right after that again. Costing him vallueble time. With all this happening we almost forgot to mention that in the wet weather period both Arntsen and Lanfie came to halt within the first 10 laps of the race because of technical issues. Lots of passing and undercutting happend because of the changing weather, but by far the driver who gained the most was is’Vaara. In the end he managed to go from 20th to finish 4th. And ofcourse there was picked as the Driver of the Day.

The results:

  1. Pedro Wilson
  2. Marlan Kalming
  3. Stefan Amanar

  10. Marianna Edifred 1:42.708 +1.847

And now the race:
The Spiiker drivers made good starts and led the race until lap 36, when West Borean rookie driver Kasran is’Vaara suffered his second mechanical failure of the season and stopped at turn 19, bringing out the safety car. The awkward positioning of the car relative to track exit points meant is’Vaara’s car had to be lifted out of the course by a crane. Under the extended safety car conditions, drivers had to weave along the straights in order to keep temperature in their tyres, preserving grip. Shortly before the safety car was due to pull into the pit lane on lap 40, Watervalley’s Czesława Pajor lost the rear end and hit the wall along the turn 6 straight. The United Malordian Grand Prix briefly trended on Pigeon after Pajor’s race engineer’s team radio was broadcasted on S1TV where he said “I think Christoffersen hit us!”; the Metropol driver was nowhere near the Watervalley car at the time, however his hydraulics system coincidentally failed three laps later and he pulled into the pits to retire the car, following the safety car which had led the race for a record nine consecutive laps. On lap 56, Mirhaimian driver Aedan Jaosar Lanfie was shown the blue flag as he was being lapped for the second time. He slowed down into turn 6, and pulled over to the middle of the track. However, Bernitti’s Pedro Wilson had taken the inside line and got squeezed against the concrete barrier, spinning him out of the race. Accusations of match fixing were levied by Wilson fans, as this accident meant Lanfie’s teammate inherited 10th place, scoring Tamradh Monsal’s first point of the season. However, the UMF ruled that these were “unsubstantiated rumours”. Pablo Saez brought home Bernitti-Domio’s second win in a row after overtaking the two duelling Spiiker drivers who had forced each other wide at Sheares Corner at the safety car restart, netting him joint 4th place in the 2022 championship.

And here are the end results of the race:

  1. Pablo Saez
  2. Marlan Kalming
  3. Haaland Rusnák
  4. Kiha Iveli

On to the race:
Almost coming up to the middle point of the season and with that the summer break the drivers wanted to take this race and the next to show they were the best going on the summer break when normally the “silly season” starts with all the rumours what will happen next season in terms of which driver will drive where and which teams will make their return, and will new teams join. But for now we’re still in this race. is’Vaara and Kalming both had a great start gaining 2 positions off the line. The race wasn’t dull but nothing special happend in the first part of the race. In lap 32 Lanfie’s engine siezed to work, and a VSC was called which came on the right time for almost everyone and most of the drivers came in for their one and only stop. Battles after the stops happend all over the field and for the most part everyone kept it clean. But then in lap 67 out of 70 the race became quite the chaos. Firstly Pajor and Edifredi had a coming together which cause Pajor to get a flat tyre and again a VSC being called ebcause part of the tyre was still on the circuit, meaning all the drivers came in for a late pitstop to all change to the soft tyres and try and get the best out of the rest, Soyer was the only driver to stay out, when the green flag was called again for the last 2 laps is’Vaara and Kalming were setting blistering times gaining massively on Soyer. Soyer got nervous seeing his lead dissapear rappidly he came on the radio to his team saying "If we fight and loose this race it might cost the team both of the championship. to which his team responded with “We understand.” Almost right after that is’Vaara being the teammate of Soyer got the call “Do NOT pass Soyer, we could use these points in the fight with Kalming”.
It seemed like he would listen cause he was right behind him at the start of the last lap and didn’t try to get passed him in the best overtaking spot in corner 3. But right after that he slipstreamed on the straight and with the DRS made the pass on Soyer. Soyer who didn’t expect turned into the corner normally and at the last possible moment saw is’Vaara was next to him and he had to turn out the corner to avoid a big crash and a win for the team. Soyer was furious with the action and called the team to let is’Vaara give him the position back, but is’Vaara didn’t listen to this. After the finish and during the podium ceremony Soyer didn’t even look at is’Vaara or congratulated him. The team representative at the podium was heard saying this was something they needed to discuss after everything had calmed down.

The results of the race:

  1. Kasran is’Vaara
  2. Matthieu Soyer
  3. Marlan Kalming
  4. Haaland Rusnák

1st Place | Kasran IS’VAARA | No.34 | Novia Racing | Gran Premio del Peragen | 26 June 2022 | Post-Race Interview

Your first ever Series One race win! How does it feel?
It’s incredible. As a rookie you always know that you’re not going to be as good as the people who have been doing this for years and years. And you’re not expected to be - being a racing driver is a multi-multi-year career. It’s all about improvement over time. So to get this just half a season in, it’s, it’s just amazing.

Will your team be as happy about this? We all heard that team radio.
Look, a win’s a win. We’re walking out of here with forty-three points either way. We’ve more than tripled our lead over Spiiker. I can’t see anyone complaining about a one-two.

But you could have walked out of Peragen with nothing at all. That was a very risky overtake you pulled on Soyer.
Yes, and? [He throws his hands up in the air.] If I was afraid of risk, I wouldn’t be driving a Novia around Conoso, I’d be driving a trolleybus around the Zlovskavaar Business District. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but this is a Series One Grand Prix! It’s called a motor race, OK? We went car racing. That’s all.

And how would you say this has affected your relationship with Soyer?
Oh, we’ll be fine. We’ve always been. It’ll be water under the bridge by the end of the season. Besides, he owes me one for Auravas. [when is’Vaara was ordered to let Soyer pass to win the race, which he did]

But you’ve cost him seven championship points.
Look, Matthieu is an incredible driver. The best driver on the grid in the best team on the grid. He can win this championship all by himself- he doesn’t need some rookie to carry him over the line. He’s won more races this year than the rest of the world combined, for Akua’s sake! Take my word for it: by the time we get to Istariya [the Packilvanian Grand Prix, the final race of the season], nobody will be thinking about those seven points.

Race 10 is today. That means when this race is done we are officially on the halfway point of the 2022 season.
Today we will race in Puntalia.
Here is the track we’re driving on today:

The top 10 results of the qualifying are as followed:

  1. Marlan Kalming 1:35.897
  2. Kasran is’Vaara 1:36.023 +0.126
  3. Matthieu Soyer 1:36.201 +0.304
  4. Haaland Rusnák 1:36.484 +0.587
  5. Pedro Wilson 1:36.976 +1.079
  6. Alphonse Dubost 1:37.011 +1.114
  7. Pablo Saez 1:37.155 +1.258
  8. Czesława Pajor 1:38.096 +2.199
  9. Mitch Noxal 1:38.492 +2.595
  10. Alfie Edarr Samatagh 1:38.583 +2.686

The race:
Almost half of the grid chose to start on the medium tyres, some in the top 10 opted to start on the soft tyres and some backmarkers decided to bite the bullet and start on the hard tyres. With such a spread of tyres a lot of different pitstop strategies were expected and lots of passing. Well, the fans got it for the most part. From the start of the race the drivers on the slower tyres were cutting through the field to the top positions. After 5 laps Dubost passed Kalming for the lead with Dubost starting on softs and Kalming on the medium tyres. Dubost and the other soft tyre runners were expected to come in the pits as the first drivers but the tyres seemed to hang on longer then expected. Both the medium and soft runners started to pit at the same time, with the drivers on hards staying out a bit longer. After the first round of pitstops the field was shaken up quite a lot. Kalming was leading again with a comfertable lead followed by his teammate Rusnák. In lap 30 Soyer and is’Vaara were both behind Dubost for a while and tried everything to pass him, but he gave up a fight having never been this high in the standings. On the backstraight both Soyer and is’Vaara had DRS and wanted to pass Dubost at the same time at both sides. After a bit of squezing from is’Vaara there wasn’t enough room and Dubost hit him on his right rear, sending is’Vaara right into Soyer losing both their front wing. Which meant costly time they both had to spend in the pits waiting for the team and eachother. Dubost was seen as the one being wrong and he got a 5 seconds penalty added to his next stop. In lap 40 Arntsen came to a grinding halt when his engine decided to go on a strike. The VSC was called because the car was in a dangerous spot and this triggered lots of stops. In lap 45 Glemzaite’s gearbox failed causing a VSC again. During all of this the fight for the points got bigger and bigger. Pajor, Dubost, Iveli, Wilson and Soyer were all close to eachother and passed eachother every chance they got. They lost a lot of time because of the big fights, but it was a great fight to watch. 1 lap before the end Louzar’s gearbox failed but she would be qualified since she completed more then 80% of the race.

The results:

  1. Marlan Kalming
  2. Haaland Rusnák
  3. Pablo Saez
  4. Kasran is’Vaara
  5. Czesława Pajor

CLOUD+TV Race stream: West Borean Grand Prix, 31 July 2022. Commentators: Danny Koffee, Mark Barrell, Todd Cabbage (pit lane)

Welcome back, one and all, to the second half of the Series One World Championship! We’re up in the West Borean Federation for the first race around the Caldera Circuit since 2019 - and we’re back with a bang. New drivers, new teams, and we’ve seen some very fast lap times put in around this five-point-three kilometre track.

Rookie driver Kasran is’Vaara put it on pole at his home race in the dying seconds of qualifying, and sits alongside his teammate, Matthieu Soyer, who currently leads the championship by a single point. Tensions have reportedly been high in the Novia garage over the summer break, but they were all smiles and handshakes in the interview pen this morning. Let’s see if that’ll hold into turn one, shall we?

Lap 1
Koffee: It’s lights out and away we go! It’s a good start from Soyer but an even better one from is’Vaara. Pablo Saez has bombed it down the inside of the Spiiker of Haaland Rusnák-- luckily no contact made there, and he’s up into fourth place. Kalming’s got a good exit, he’s hot on the tails of the Novias. And already a yellow flag! (Barrell: Was that a–) I think, yes, Mikal Christoffersen is tumbling down the order. He’s spun off at turn one, luckily he’s kept the engine going, as we see him make his way onto the track, which he’s absolutely showering with gravel. (Barrell: He’s done it again!) Looks like he’s got some pretty big flat-spots on his tyres, he’ll need to come into the pits early to get a new set of boots on.

Lap 3
Barrell: Is’Vaara’s got a healthy lead over his teammate but now we’re on lap three, and DRS will be enabled. He needs to keep that gap over one second or else Soyer’s going to get a big boost down the straights, and-- that’s strange, someone’s coming into the pits. (Koffee: That’s an Eclipse I think) Todd are you awake?

Todd Cabbage, pit lane reporter: Yes, that’s Žydre Glemzaite. And his pit crew is coming out, but they don’t have any tyres to put on him. Are-- (Barrell: Two secs, Todd)

TEAM RADIO: #21 Žydre GLEMZAITE, Eclipse Motorsports:

GLE: Guys, something smells horrible in here.
PIT: Copy, we are looking... Hydraulics leak. Into the pits immediately, we have to retire the car.
GLE: ****

Lap 5
Koffee: And we’ve got another yellow flag, and this time-- that’s Josephina Louzar’s Marchitelli Falcon, and that is a lot of smoke coming out the back between turns eight and nine. Louzar’s out of the race. (Barrell: That’ll need a virtual safety car at least.) And we do get a virtual safety car. It’s a bit early for many, but a few drivers started on their qualifying soft tyres, which would probably start to lose grip in a few laps’ time. (Barrell: The MetroCivs and the Watervalleys especially are going to want to take advantage of this.)

Lap 24
Cabbage: Kasran is’Vaara in for his first stop, they’re putting the mediums on, an aggressive strategy for the young rookie.
Koffee: Kalming goes through, Soyer, Rusnák, Saez, and now is’Vaara comes out on track alongside Wilson, they’re side-by-side going into turn one, but Kasran’s tyres need time to warm up, Pedro Wilson takes fifth place. (Barrell: Oh that’s not nice from the fans there.) Yes, we don’t want to dwell too long on the political situation here and why we haven’t raced here in the past two years, but there are some in the crowd who are booing the Morstaybishlian driver taking the lead. (Barrell: That’s just not on, is it.) Absolutely agree with you there, Mark. And hopefully we won’t have to think about that anymore, because Soyer’s making a move, has a look, and with his rear wing open he overtakes Kalming for the lead on the back straight.

Lap 25
Barrell: And speaking of Novias making moves, as we ride the onboard camera of Kasran is’Vaara, coming up behind Pedro Wilson, and-- woah! (Koffee: Wilson’s engine’s just exploded! Lucky to not take is’Vaara out of the race with him.) He comes to a stop in the runoff road, they’ll probably be able to clear that without any need for a safety car. (Koffee: That’s going to do some real damage to him in his fight for third place of the championship.)

Lap 44
Koffee: Haaland Rusnák defending from Pablo Saez, who’s looking up for the inside line, the Vaklori veteran closes the door-- and Saez locks up and they make contact! (Barrell: That was never going to work, you could see that coming a mile away.) Saez will be needing a new front wing, but he’s sent Rusnák straight into the tyre barriers. And that’s going to need a safety car at least.

TEAM RADIO: #67 Haaland RUSNÁK, Spiiker Squadron

RUS: What is he? Is he an idiot? Does he think he is immune to the laws of physics? Because I'm not!

Lap 58
Koffee: It’s been a rollercoaster of a race, but what a way for Kasran is’Vaara to finish his first ever home race! (Barrell: He can be proud of that performance. Cleanly dominated the whole way through, and he’s held a commanding lead, even over the championship contenders, who will have to settle for the bottom steps of the podium as Kasran enjoys his thirty-second lead.) Couldn’t have said it better myself, Mark. He’s had a bril-- and he’s off! (Barrell: He’s lost it!) I don’t believe it! At the very last corner of the very last lap of his very first home Grand Prix, Kasran is’Vaara has crashed himself into the armco barriers and out of the race! (Barrell: Safety car out.) Heartbreak on Zlovskavaar Island for the rookie who grew up just a few miles down the road.

  • Since Driver #34 completed more laps of the track (57.92) than all lapped drivers (57.00), he places above them in the race classification.

Aduraszna is where the race is held today.

  9. Josephina Louzar 1:25.447 +1.820
  10. Aedan Jaosar Lanfie 1:25.632 +1.975

The race:
Almost everyone this race started on the soft tyres, the circuit is also known as “Temple of Speed” and you need the traction out of the slow corners to reach max speed at the end of the long straights. There was only 1 driver opting for the hard tyres which was Czesława Pajor, they started the race all the way down in 16th and didn’t have anything to loose. they wanted to try and make it an 1 stop race where the others had to make 2 stops during the race. Not much changed in the run to the first chicane. Only Saez made a daring move in the first chicane which gained him 2 positions right away. With the high speeds and long braking distances passing accured quite a lot, which was a good chance for the races we had almost no passing at all. After just 7 laps Stefan Amanar’s engine gave out. No SC or VSC was called out since he pulled over in a safe place. A few laps after this the first round of stops started, with most of the people stopping for softs to most likely stop ones more for softs between lap 28-33 and then go the end. The middle part was a bit less active, all the drivers spared their tyres to try and keep them alive for as long as possible so they would have to do less laps on the next set of tyres. Czesława Pajor was still driving on his now wuite old hard tyres, but he was actually leading the race, the guys who just pitted were gaining on Pajor fast though, and on lap 29 Pajor made his one and only stop. Just when he came out of the pits Pedro Wilson’s gearbox went on a strike and he had to pull over. This time a VSC was called And right away everyone came in for their stops. After that nothing much happend and the race kinda died out in the last stages. But PAjor managed to pull off his strategy and finished a very deserved 5th.

The result:

  1. Marlan Kalming
  2. Matthieu Soyer

  10. Haaland Rusnák 1:34.852 +2.607

The race:
This circuit is called by most of the drivers “The scariest of the tracks in S1”. This is due to it being a street circuit with the walls very close, and that in combination with the high speeds, blind corners and los of corners it is logical the drivers call it that way. Right from the start there was a crash in the first chicane. Intásime had not the best of starts this race and lost 2 positions, to Kobayashi and Louzar. He tried to win those positions back with a daring move but outbraked himself slamming into his teammate Kobayashi who’s steering broke on impact and hit the wall right after that as well. The safety car was called because of the accident right away with all the carbonfiber scattered around the track. The a teamradio came in from Kobayashi “Was that who I think it was?!” to which his reacted: “We will discuss it after the race, but you are right.” We might see the first cracks in one of the teams this season. With the Safety Car being called out after the first lap it was to early to pit, so no one did, even Intásime who seemed to missing his end-plate on his front wing. When the SC came in Wilson was right on the gearbox of Kalming and coming up to turn one he came out of the slipstream and made a daring pass under braking in turn one. The high speed nature of this circuit with all the highspeed corners doesn’t make passing easy on this track. So the race would not see much passing happening and it turned into a pit-stop orrientated race with the strategies making the difference. Just before the end of the race Iveli’s engine caught fire with lots of smoke covering the part of the track he parked the car. A VSC was called because of it effectively ending the race just a few laps short because the VSC was ended until just before the race ended.

The results:

  1. Pedro Wilson
  2. Marlan Kalming
  3. Kasran is’Vaara
  4. Pablo Saez

  9. Kiha Iveli 1:16.339 +1.389
  10. Czesława Pajor 1:16.506 +1.496

The race:
This track has one of the longest straights on the calender. And it is the only time the DRS can be opened on the track so expect a lot of overtaking into turn one and drivers using the rest of the lap to get close enough to get the pass done on the end of the straight. On lap 23 Pedro Wilson had a crash, this crash made sure the Safety Car had to come out and the field would be bunched up again. Pajor, Kalming, Rusnák and a few others came in the pits for their regular stop. Spiiker Squadron made a risk with it since they double stacked their drivers and they ofcourse didn’t want either to wait for anyone else. A few laps later the SC came in already again. Lap 32 started the pit sequence for the drivers who hadn’t stopped during the SC. This in term meant that because of the strategies both Iveli and Dubost led a few laps. When the pit stops were mostly done the field had suffled around a bit, and in lap 36 a title deciding moment happend (maybe the already the second of the season). Kalming tried to overtake Glemzaite into turn one but touched them slighty and he spun around because of it, this didn’t only cost Kalming time but also 2 positions he had to gain back again in a short time if he wanted to gain some more points. On the end of lap 40 the gearbox of Louzar started to fail and she was called into the pits right away just barely making it with her luck being the fail started on the beginning of the straight. A few laps later the VSC was called for a while and this cause everyone to come in for their last pitstop, almost everyone went to the medium tyres because there were only 20 laps, out of the 67, left when the VSC was called. Edifredi has a puncture and hit the wall quite hard. Scattering carbon fibre in big range around the the crash and on the track. A few driver wanted a full SC and there were even one or two driver which wanted a red flag until everything was cleared. But the organizers were of the opinion that a VSC was enough. It lasted for 8 laps, and with 12 laps remaining after it the fights were on and it was a turning out to be a tightly fought sprint race in the end.

The results:

  1. Matthieu Soyer
  2. Kasran is’Vaara
  3. Alphonse Dubost
  4. Pablo Saez
  5. Czesława Pajor
  6. Stefan Amanar

Lap 6: Soyer turns into his teammate is’Vaara. Soyer is forced to come into the pits for a new front wing.
Lap 7: Kalming turns into is’Vaara as well. Kalming is also forced into the pits for a new front wing. is’Vaara is not happy by the same accident happening to him twice and yells on the team radio “Am I invisible or something?”. The team tries to calm him down saying that despite everything noting looks broken on his car.
Lap 9: Glemzaite misjudges her breakingpoint and rear-ends Noxal. Glemzaite’s tyre comes off after the crash and she is forced to retire after this.
Lap 21: Samatagh’s gearbox fails and is stuck in “limp home mode” he just barely makes it back to the pits thanks to the downslope the last part of the track is on.

  9. Stefan Amanar 1:49.572 +2.815
  10. Czesława Pajor 1:49.773 +3.016

The race:
Lap 16: Wilson, Kalming, Soyer have a crash with eachother. The stewards put the blame on Wilson and he got a 10 second stop-and-go penalty he had to serve within 3 laps of recieving it. Kalming and Soyer both retiring. This meant that this was the race for Saez to loose. He was now the highest placed driver in the championship still in the race and if he wins he could gain 25 points on both of them and close up the exciting lead battle even more and get it to be the 3 drivers fighting for the championship, from 3 different teams.
Lap 30: it started to rain a few laps ago, but this turned out to be the lap where the crosspoint was. multiple drivers started to have issues with their dry weather tyres and started to pit for inters.
Lap 36: Saez came up to Lanfie to lap him at the start of the lap. Lanfie made way after turn 1, and Saez passed him but cut across back to soon to be able to take the best line in the highspeed corner coming up. Saez touched Lanfie’s left front with his right rear and was send straight to the wall. making it happen that the top 3 in the championship at that moment all retired from the race. A short VSC was called to clean up the mess
Lap 37: During the VSC Pajor’s engine gave out and they stopped around 2/3’s around the lap and they weren’t able to reach the pits. With the VSC still out there wasn’t much hassle around the track.
Lap 40: The VSC was ended and now it was the turn for Wilson to lap Lanfie. Lanfie didn’t really seem to notice Wilson or he didn’t want to see him but he kept his line where he shouldn’t. When he noticed Wilson he was shocked by him turned to much on the wet track and spun right in the car of Wilson. Lanfie had to return to the pits and retire, Wilson had to come in the pits for a new front wing.
Lap 44: Rusnák won the race, 15 second before is’Vaara coming second and almost a minute before Intásime who completed the podium.

The race:
The start: a big crash happend in the midfield with 9 drivers involved because of how narrow the track is at some parts. Dubost, Wilson, Edifredi, Amanar, Lanfie, Samatagh, Iveli, Glemzaite and Christoffersen were all involved. Iveli, Dubost, Lanfie and Samatagh all had to retire then and there. Because the track was blocked by all the cars a red flag was waived and the race had to be restarted from the beginning.
Lap 7: Christoffersen had to retire a few laps into the race since the damage on his car was deemed to severe after the start crash.
Lap 17: Louzar spell of bad luck with the machinery continued, she had to retire again, this time with a damaged gearbox.
Lap 30: Noxal had a very lengthy pitstop, in the replay it was showed that one of his tyres suppose to go on the car was flat, and they had to quickly bring him a completely new set of tyres.
Lap 45: is’Vaara slid of the track in what looked like a rookie mistake missing his brakingpoint by a long shot coming down the hill on the second to last corner, and he was stuck in the gravel. which meant he had to retire the car as well.
Lap 47: Wilson had some damage still on his car after the start crash, and replays kept showing his suspension which seemed weak because of the crash, but the team couldn’t fix his suspension in the red-flag period. on lap 47 in (finally) snapped when he braked for the first chicane and Wilson spun off hitting the barrier and becoming the 8th retiree of the race.
lap 63: Kalming won the race, followed 15 seconds later with his teammate Rusnák finishing second and Soyer 26 second later finishing 3rd.

Haaland Rusnák has put his Spiiker on pole position, his second of the season, and he lines up alongside the Novia of Kasran is’Vaara. It’s been quite a qualifying session; the championship contenders have been relegated to 3rd and 5th. Matthieu Soyer holds an eight-point lead, but he’s going to have to fight to keep it that way.

Lap 1
Koffee: It’s lights out and away we go! Rusnák gets away well-- is’Vaara very slow off the mark! (Barrell: he might have tripped the anti-stall there). Through the first two corners now, and it looks like he’s down to tenth now, and he’s dragged Pablo Saez with him, who started directly behind and had to take evasive action. Luckily all twenty cars have gotten through that unscathed. (Barrell: Doing better than Arsal already).

Lap 5
Koffee: Down the main straight now, DRS flaps open, Alphonse Dubost making a move on Nákel Intásime. She moves over to the inside, cuts off the overtake-- (Barrell: He’s going for it anyway!) He’s on the grass, and they make contact! Flying across the track, is’Vaara behind nearly gets tagged as well, and into the barriers on the other side of the road. Heavy impact there, but they’re both moving, they’re both getting out of their cars. (Barrell: Now that was never going to work, was it.)

TEAM RADIO: #13, Nákel INTÁSIME, Tauríllielle Ftomovíler:

INT: Hwilúka! [idiot!] He should work on a construction site, if he wants to drive a bulldozer so badly!

Lap 18
Barrell: There’s a yellow flag out in Sector 2. (Koffee: That’s Mikal Christoffersen!) There’s a lot of smoke coming out of the back of that Metropol. He’s out of the car - and good thing too, because that’s now on fire. (Koffee: That’s two races in a row now where Christoffersen won’t be seeing the checkered flag.) And here comes a virtual safety car, and the marshalls with the fire extinguishers.

Lap 52
Cabbage: And there goes Josephina Louzar on the softs. That’ll probably be it from the pit lane, everyone’s now on tyres that can get them to the end of the race. (Koffee: Well not quite, Samatagh is now in the pit entry.) That’s strange, he only pitted last lap. (Koffee: Do they have an issue?) Looks like it, they haven’t brought out any new tyres. And-- yes, they’re turning off the engine. So that’s it for the Mirhaimian rookie. (Barrell: That’s the third time in five races Samatagh’s not finishing a race.) Yeah, the backmarker teams haven’t been having any fun since, oh, probably the Southern Coast.

Lap 66
Koffee: What a drive we’ve seen from Marlan Kalming today, the strategy went off without a hitch. He takes a well-deserved win here at Órna Çéqi. [Somebody has clearly taught him how to pronounce the name during the race.] Pedro Wilson comes in to make it a Morstaybishlian one-two. Haaland Rusnák defending for his life, keeps Matthieu Soyer off of the podium. And with that, Kalming takes the lead of the Drivers’ Championship! He’s going to have a five-point advantage going into the final race in Packilvania in two weeks’ time. Make sure you’re tuned in to CLOUD+TV to catch all the action as it happens, it’s gonna be one hell of a show.

CLOUD+TV Race stream: Packilvanian Grand Prix, 27 November 2022. Commentators: Danny Koffee, Mark Barrell, Todd Cabbage (pit lane)

Koffee: Welcome one and all, to the final race of the Series One World Championship! We’re here in Kemer, Packilvania, to decide both the Drivers’ Championship and the Constructors’ Championship. The two contenders, Marlan Kalming and Matthieu Soyer, are neck-and-neck in the standings, with 321 and 316 points respectively. Spiiker Squadron has the edge in both championships, but they enjoy a much less stressful thirty-nine point lead over Novia in the Constructors’.

Matthieu Soyer has put his Novia into pole position, and and is joined on the front row by Haaland Rusnák. The top six drivers are separated by less than a tenth of a second, and his teammate Marlan Kalming came out on the short end of that stick, and lines up in fifth. He’s going to have a hell of a drive ahead of him if he wants to keep any of his five-point lead. And he’ll need to keep it- Soyer’s won eight grands prix this year over Kalming’s six, so if they tie on points, Soyer will win on count-back. As it stands, if either driver wins here at Istariya today, they’ll take home the Champion’s trophy. And if Matthieu Soyer doesn’t win, he’s going to need to keep Marlan Kalming at least a couple cars behind. It’s all to play for.

Lap 1
Koffee: It’s lights out and away we go! Haaland Rusnák gets away very well, and that start will make all the difference, because it’s a very long straight down to the first corner, and he’s already ahead of Soyer. And as we all know very well by now, there’s a lot of championship points between first and second. The Bernitti-Domios are wheel-to-wheel going into the chicane, and Wilson slips ahead of his teammate, Pablo Saez, who tries to get the switchback-- and gets it all wrong out of turn three, he’s spun himself around, bringing out the yellow flags. Through goes Kalming, Glemzaite, is’Vaara… Now to rejoin the track safely- he slots neatly in between the two Tauríllielles, but he’s down in thirteenth now. This could be the golden opportunity that Kasran is’Vaara needs to take fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship.

Lap 6
Barrell: Yellow flag in the first sector. (Koffee: One of the Tauríllielles.) That’s Nákel Intásime’s car going very slowly down the second straight. (Koffee: What a terrible end to her season, after getting crashed out by Dubost two weeks ago at her home grand prix.) Over the last two races she’s done all of eleven laps. Tauríllielle Ftomovíler will be looking very hard at the reliability and durability of the car over the new-year break. (Koffee: They’re taking their time with the safety car…) Yeah, looks like she’s pulled off in a convenient-enough location, off the track and away from the run-off area. They’ll probably only need the yellow flags to get that cleared away. (Koffee: And the marshalls are already pushing it behind the barriers.) Very quickly and cleanly done by the Packilvanian stewards there. This is our first ever race here but they move as if they’ve been doing it their whole lives.

Lap 29
Koffee: …and if you’re a CLOUD-Z customer you can press the red button to view highlights of the race alongside the live action itself. As it stands, on Lap 33, Haaland Rusnák leads with a five-second gap from Matthieu Soyer, then Kasran is’Vaara, Pedro Wilson, and Marlan Kalming in fifth, with the fastest lap extra point. If this holds, Soyer will win the Championship by a margin of just two points-- and Kalming divebombs down the inside of Wilson! What a move-- and he holds off the switchback, he’s up into fourth place! So, what’s that mean-- (Barrell: They’ll be tied-- three hundred and thirty four points each, which will mean Matthieu Soyer will win it on countback, 'cos he’s won more races.) This is absolutely incredible stuff. And Kalming’s already holding the fastest lap point, so if he wants to win he’ll need to get past Kasran is’Vaara, that is to say, Soyer’s new Novia teammate.

TEAM RADIO: #22, Matthieu SOYER, Novia Racing

SOY: Tell Kasran to defend - like a lion!

TEAM RADIO: #34, Kasran IS’VAARA, Novia Racing

PIT: We must defend against Kalming, OK? We need to keep Kalming behind us as much as you can. Elbows out!

Lap 33
Koffee: Kalming now has DRS on is’Vaara for the third lap running, but is’Vaara swoops round and covers off the overtake. He’s losing a lot of time to the cars in front, but crucially he’s keeping Kalming behind him. (Barrell: He knows what his job is today, and that’s to help–) And that’s a yellow flag, sector one again. And that’s a lot of smoke coming out of the back of that Metropol! (Barrell: You want to talk about bad endings to a season, that’s the third race in a row that Mikal Christoffersen is not going to see the checkered flag - and the second race in a row where that’s because his car’s caught fire.) And that is going to ensure that he ends the season at the bottom of the table, having scored just one single point back in the Federation in August. (Barrell: And that’ll ensure a virtual safety car.) The race is neutralised, all cars reduce their speed by forty percent, no overtaking-- (Barrell: Wait hang on, when did–) Kalming’s got past is’Vaara! He’s up into third and takes the lead of the Championship! (Barrell: If he’s done that under the safety car, he’s going to have to give that place back.)

[The screens show a replay: the safety car light comes on on the drivers’ dashboards approximately two seconds before Kalming’s overtake]

TEAM RADIO: #28, Marlan KALMING, Spiiker Squadron

PIT: Marlan, so let’s give the position back to is’Vaara. Obviously do that strategically.

[There is an audible crunching noise as Kalming slows down in front of is’Vaara and the two cars crash into each other. Kasran is’Vaara’s front wing is visibly damaged and partially missing]

Koffee: And they’ve touched! They’ve collided-- Marlan Kalming and Kasran is’Vaara, how much damage on is’Vaara’s Novia, what has happened there? Kalming being told to give the place back to is’Vaara, slowed down on the straight, is’Vaara ran into the back of the Spiiker, just what is going on here in Istariya this afternoon?! (Barrell: Marlan left a lot of space to the inside-- but then he accelerated immediately away from it again, didn’t he.)

Lap 34
Barrell: Virtual safety car is ending, and the Novia will have to come into the pits to get a new front wing. (Koffee: He held off a championship contender with DRS on fresher tyres for five laps, that’s a pretty good performance from the West Borean rookie-- and-- and he stays out!) He’s not getting a new front wing! (Koffee: But half of it’s been left on the straight!) Is’Vaara’s going to lose a lot of time going another lap with half a front wing, but if he can somehow keep Marlan Kalming behind him, then so will he. The only reason that Kalming gave the place back immediately rather than after the safety car ended was that he thought is’Vaara was going to pit. And he hasn’t! And if he loses enough time, his final pit stop will put him behind Žydre Glemzaite in the Eclipse, who’s just put on the hard tyres and won’t have to stop again this race.

TEAM RADIO: #28, Marlan KALMING, Spiiker Squadron

KAL: That guy’s ****ing crazy, man.

Koffee: Back up to racing speed now, down the start-finish straight, and is’Vaara is pulling away quickly. (Barrell: Well, his car’s just shed a lot of weight recently, hasn’t it.) Marlan Kalming hanging back for the moment, he knows the Novia is going to be a lot harder to turn now-- and it is, but is’Vaara forces him wide, just about gets his car pointed in the right direction, and sets off at a rate of knots down the second straight.

Barrell: And just in from race control: Black-and-orange flag for car #34- that’s Kasran. He’s now required to come into the pits at the end of this lap to get his front wing changed. (Koffee: And he’ll be wanting to do that anyway, as Kalming has just gotten past him at the hairpin.) But all this has given him a thirty-second deficit to Matthieu Soyer, but crucially, his lead over Žydre Glemzaite in fifth is down to only eight seconds. A pit stop around Istariya costs you about twenty-two seconds, so that’ll put him well behind him - and possibly the Bernittis as well. (Koffee: And Kasran is’Vaara finally comes into the pits and is, realistically speaking, out of the fight.) He’s done all he can, and all Novia can do now is hope that that was enough. Haaland Rusnák is showing no signs of letting Matthieu Soyer catch up to him, so if Soyer stays second, he’s going to need Kalming to finish fourth or lower if he wants to win the Drivers’ Championship. (Koffee: And Marlan Kalming’s Istariya woes are getting worse-- he’s got a five-second time penalty for the collision with is’Vaara.)

Lap 51
Cabbage: Kalming now into the pits. The Spiiker pit crew there waiting anxiously for the five seconds to be up. Official raises his hand, and they can change the tyres. Seven point five seconds all said and done. Best they could have hoped for in this scenario, really.

Koffee: Glemzaite goes through, no surprises there, Kalming on pit exit, he’s wheel to wheel with the Bernitti-Domio of Pedro Wilson, but he squeezes through the inside and takes fourth place. (Barrell: Wilson didn’t fight that particularly hard, did he. Old tyres.)

Lap 59
Koffee: It feels like Kalming’s driving a whole new car now ever since he had his new tyres on. He’s already made the gap up to Žydre Glemzaite, and now he has twelve laps in which to overtake the Eclipse to finish third and win the Drivers’ Championship. Touch wood here, but this should be pretty easy. He won’t even need to take the fastest lap point back from Matthieu Soyer. (Barrell: He can take all the time he needs for this one, the Eclipse has shown great pace in qualifying but they’ve struggled doing more than one lap at a time. They’re currently knocking on the door of fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship-- if Glemzaite manages to keep this third place and Kiha Iveli eighth, they’ll finish the season with one hundred and ten total points, ahead of MetroCiv on one hundred and five, and Tauríllielle on one hundred flat.) Oh and they’ll finish with less than that because that there is Kiha Iveli’s car in a plume of smoke! (Barrell: Commentators’ curse strikes again, I knew I shouldn’t have said anything.) Luckily that’s happened in the stadium section so they can bring the car into the pits to retire.

Cabbage: The Novia pit crew’s running over with their fire extinguishers, and just as well too, because that’s a full-on fire coming out of the back of that car now.

Barrell: Well that’s curtains for Eclipse’s fifth place then- even if Glemzaite can hold off Kalming for the next twelve laps, they’re still going to end up one point shy of MetroCiv, because this retirement means Alphonse Dubost will inherit eighth place, and the two extra points that comes with it.

Koffee: And he’ll have his work cut out for him, as Kalming sends it down the inside, they almost touch-- (Barrell: They do touch–) and Marlan Kalming is inching ahead down the straight, and gets ahead, and stays ahead of Žydre Glemzaite! Of all the drama, of all the controversy, of all the magic moments in Series One in 2022, it comes down to this-- and at this moment, it looks like it’s going to go the way of Marlan Kalming.

Lap 68
Barrell: Marlan Kalming’s done an amazing job making up the gap to Matthieu Soyer these last few laps. The championship’s already in his pocket, so this is all about the glory now. But Soyer won’t let him go easy.

Lap 71
Koffee: …and Kalming sends it divebombing down the inside once again! Why not- it’s worked well for him the rest of the race-- Soyer is forced wide, and makes the cutback, but with DRS open, the Spiiker of Marlan Kalming is just too fast, and down the second straight he gets ahead and stays ahead. And now it’s just the precession to the finish line. Novia will be heartbroken, Spiiker will be delighted - they can cap off their season with a one-two - Kalming and Soyer have shared a brilliant championship battle, but the championship can only be won by one - and it’s going to Morstaybishlia in 2022-- Marlan Kalming, in his first year back from retirement, is champion of the world!

Soyer comes in to finish third, and second in the standings, after leading it for so long, making his Series One career record second in 2020, third in 2021, and now second again in 2022. (Barrell: Well, this year is “twenty-twenty… two”.) …Mark, I don’t even know what to say to that. Well, apart from that it’s been a fantastic season, and I hope to see each and every one of you back here after the new-years break for another great gauntlet of grands prix.
